"It's a mod of the Parry skill - Vengeful Riposte," Shield called out, the atmosphere relaxing considerably as one Gem Eater after another burst into light shards. "There's another one as well, Justified Riposte. That one I can use to stun an attacker. I can use both at once even. I just don't see the point in stunning things that like to throw themselves onto my thorns."

He twisted his wrist, his blade glinting in the dim light of the crystals all around them. Another, brighter light began gathering at the blade's tip, forming into a ball which Shield tossed to Beat. "For the leader, once we get down to that point." He barked over the scraping and squealing of the now panicked beasts. "Interesting that they seem to have diversified roles. One as a vanguard and then now an apparent leader or at least a specialist."

They were coming down to it now. Another couple of strategic actions and the fight should be over. Then again, at least one of the little buggers seemed to be full of surprises.

"It is!" Beat said, feeling like he could actually enjoy the death game they had all been forced to play for the first time in a long time, "You definitely didn't see it very often on the lower floors. These guys makes the creatures on the first ten floors look immobile and useless." Beat managed to further relax, the threat of their death finally a non-issue, though it was possible that there could always be more moles, so he wasn't about to drop his guard completely.

"Alright fellas! Let's see if you can keep up your defenses!" Beat shouted at the panicked mole beasts as he made yet another spin and sent a fierce twister through the group, shredding yet another enemy to pieces as the other finally failed to avoid the attack and took the brunt of the force, the bleed status showing up above its info bar.

"Finally read your move! Let's finish this Shield!" Beat said triumphantly.

Shield nodded, already focusing his energy onto his blade, the tip of which lit up like a candle. Letting his shield slip towards his elbow, he gripped the pommel of his sword with his left hand, swinging the weapon like a bat to serve the energy to his comrade in a freaky quick motion. With the package sent, he let the tip of his sword rest against the ground, watching to see if his energy was going to be put to good use.

"You're up, Beat!" he called out to his comrade. "I did the hard work for you. All it should take it one touch to wipe him out."

I have no idea how that specialty mob is going to react, but it's not up to me anymore. The ball is in Beat's court now.

Shield began to scroll through the log for the combat so far, tallying up the loot drops. So far, nothing but Col and Materials.

Oh well. I guess you can't win 'em all.

"Simple enough, thanks for saving the best for last...and for me." Beat said, grinning menacingly at the now completely panicked mole creature that, completely forgetting that it could simply burrow and run away, decided to run for its life.

"Oooooh no," Beat said, waving a mocking finger at the creature's back, "You don't get to get away that easily!"

Beat spun up one last tornadic kick, mostly out of spite for having missed this particular mole creature with so many, as sent it ripping along the ground after the poor creature. Soon enough, the attack hit it's mark and finally ripped the creature asunder, leaving behind nothing but a decent loot screen that popped up in front of each player.

"Mats and some col...not bad really." He remarked as he took a seat on the hard cavern floor. He looked up to admire the technicolored fungi that illuminated the entire placce, making the lack of sunlight a non-issue.

Swapping gear:
- Spirit Plate
- Spirit Spines
+ Finder's Keeper
+ Seeking Aura

Shield gave a final nod, swiping through the air to bring up his menu as he set about swapping in his seeking gear rather than his combat gear. "Now for the real reason we're up here." From his inventory, he produced a small, golden key. "So far, chests have been about the best way to find things that are worth identifying. I see no reason to stop looking any time soon. And what with the new house and all of the benefits of being able to rest in a real bed and such, I think we're in good shape to find what we're looking for."

With his gear properly in place and the threats of moles seemingly eliminated, Shield took a look further down the path where they had originally been waylaid. It seemed as promising of a direction as any, and with a motion for Beat to follow, he took off walking deeper into the mines of the cavernous twenty first floor.

No Mats found

"Hmm, indeed. With that recent patch, housing did become more useful, even if crafting did get harder." Beat folded his arms as he considered all of the changes that happened due to the recent patch to the game.

"After all that trouble we went to to get the witch's cauldron and the other various crafting bonus items so we could supply the frontlines the way they need to be..." he said, his brow furrowing as he pulled his inventory open in front of himsefl and began looking at the items that now only gave extra crafting attempts rather than actually improving the quality of each craft.

"I suppose it would be too much to ask to have the game master run things by us before he implemented them. We are stuck here regardless of what he does, so I guess there isn't much incentive for him to keep us happy." He continued, closing his inventory and looking around for materials he might be able to use to craft third tier materials, unfortunately, there were none to be found in this particular cavern.

ID# 92116 results: Loot: 10+6=16 - Chest found!

"You're not kidding," Shield said with a scoff. "At least your profession still advances linearly. My craft doesn't improve with advancement anymore. It didn't before, but items and bonuses were a good marker for having advanced in a sense."

As they turned the corner, they passed by a torch bracket in the wall. Shield continued for a few steps before halting and backing up. He squinted at the bracket, a little confused at first as to why this fixture seemed like such a big deal. Finally, after glancing up and down the hallway, it dawned on him.

"Something is hidden here in plain sight," he said slightly in awe of the simplicity of the puzzle. "The entire rest of the floor is lit by natural means, but we as players are so used to torches just being around in dungeons that we wouldn't think anything of it unless we were looking for it."

He reached out and pulled on the bracket. It moved like a level and clicked, and right before them, the wall slid open to reveal a chest.

"Ha-HA!"

ID: 92120 - LD: 10 No mats found

Beat kept his arms folded and watched as Shield solved the simple puzzle. It was rather surprising that even on the twenty first floor, the puzzles were incredibly simple, unless of course it was a trap. Either way, Beat was sure Shield could wether whatever effects such a trap would inflict unopn the sturdy frontliner.

"Paydirt!" He cheered as Shield pulled the lever to reveal a treasure chest. the chest on the ninth floor had contained quite a decent haul of loot, despite being on such a low floor, so he was far more excited by the possibilities that lied in wait inside the first chest of the third tier.

"Come ooonnnn new house, daddy needs a new house!" He said, rubbing his hands together greedily as he looked around to make sure no one was around to possibly steal their haul or otherwise interfere. PKers were rare in their experience, but one could never be too safe.

Shield held out the golden key to the lock of the chest. The little item burst in a flash of golden particles and the tinkling of metal. The chest popped open and immediately a dialog box appeared outlining the contents of the container. He briefly read them over and frowned, dismissing the window and standing back up to his full height.

"Well," he said aloud, spreading his hands out and shrugging. "At least we made enough to cover the cost of my key." He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck as he began walking back towards the entrance. "It wasn't just Col, but the rest of it is just materials and a few consumables. The consumables might at least come in handy, but they'll need to be identified first. Either way, I say we head back. I've had enough vaguely disappointing odds for today, haven't you?"

He quickened his pace, and the two of them headed back to Tomoika.
