Shield did some very fast, very rough estimations in his head. With the reduction in his thorns damage, he didn't think that one more prick would do the trick. A part of him still worried that the leader of the pack might manage the bleed attack and heal itself up like the brokers had warned Shield about, but the fact that he had yet to see such an attack meant that either they had lucked out so far or that the odds for the bleed were very low. Meanwhile, his thorns were very reliable so far.

He didn't have time to hesitate. If he was going to try for the quick kill, he just had to do it. He swiped and swapped once again, navigating his menus as quickly as his fingers would allow. The Nemean Fur vanished, and in its place around his shoulders, there appeared his trusty spined puoldrons. No sooner had the heavy armor materialized than the lesser wolf sank its canines into Shield's thigh and vanished in a spray of shattered pale polygons.

Blood Bane let out an enraged howl, the tone harsh and angry, but without a pack to echo the howl or at least respond to it with snarls and other such threatening gestures, the howl seemed much less intimidating. The beast lunged forward, missing Shield entirely.

"All you, big blue!" Shield called out to the blue haired player. "I'm swapping back to the Blood Clot armor as soon as I can, so don't get too accustomed to that higher thorns damage."

"Heh, don't worry. I'm the one that's supposed to be pulling DPS of the two of us right? Just make sure that thing doesn't get a good shot on you!"

With the final minion taken care of, that meant that Blood Bane was finally capable of being targeted. Giving a small sigh of relief Calrex immediately turned and directed his attention at the field boss, already prepared to commence his attack. As if to represent this his gauntlet-clad right arm began to light up with the bright blue energy of All Might once again for the nth time this quest. Blinking once to steady his eyes the blunette took a single step forward.

Right as he did Charge took over, slingshotting his body forward so fast that to the regular human eye it might have been suspected that he had lagged, at least if it weren't for the fact it seemed Aincrad had extremely stable internet connections for a massive multiplayer online RPG game. Almost immediately stopping in front of Blood Bane the Ultramarine Knight threw his right fist forward, already built up with the momentum from his approach. The punch connected directly with the larger wolf's face as a chunk of its health vanished.

"Well that's a good start. Just a few more continued shots like that and we'll be done with the quest and ready to get something else taken care of."

There was real damage on the boss now. That was reassuring, even more so than seeing the last of the minions fall. Shield felt like it was safe to retire the Spirit Spines for the remainder of the fight. If it means getting final hit bonus, he might trade it in later at the very end, but for now, the name of the game was keeping his pixelated blood in his own body.

He traded out the items for what was hopefully the last time, the golden lion's fur now draped around him like a cape. It was an otherwise weak armor, but it would do the trick for now.

Despite the clean hit that Calrex had landed, Shield's insults had clearly been enough to keep Blood Bane incensed at him. The creature's yellow eyes continued to bore into him, and as it let out yet another blood-curdling howl, it raced towards him. He lifted his shield and the powerful jaws of the wolf latched onto it. Still, despite his defenses, a little of his health actually ticked away, mirrored by the small amount of health that the enemy took as well.

"It's progress," he grunted, swinging his arm and throwing the wolf back to create some distance. "Let's see if I can't finally give you back some energy to keep this fight going."

"Thanks, I appreciate the uptime. Hopefully that special effect will wear off fast enough that we can finish it off before the next time."

With Shield switching for a different piece of equipment for the situation Calrex continued the assault to make sure that the field boss didn't get a chance to heal up from another one of its special abilities. Forming a fist with his right hand once again the bluenette felt the energy of his familiar Sword Art course through and visually form around his forearm once again, blazing alight with a light blue hue. Sliding his right foot back he lowered himself down, stopping as he felt his body lock into place from the assisted system triggering his All Might attack.

Letting the system take over the Ultramarine Knight felt his body jerk back from the explosive advance, taking a few steps forward with his right arm drawn back before stopping in front of the larger wolf, already beginning to throw his punch forward. The light blue aura continued to materialize over his arm for a few moments after the attack connected, the powerful punch to the right side of Blood Bane's jaw sending the creature sliding back from the force of the blow.

"Another solid hit for now, let's keep this up!"

The tides of battle had turned, or rather they had strengthened. Really, it had never been a fair fight, but now with his lessers gone, Blood Bane was in a lot of trouble, and between the easy, thorny target or the difficult, punchy target, there were no truly good options left to the wolf. It snarled, backing up towards the tree line. It looked like the epitome of an animal cornered. Shield advanced on it, realizing it might be difficult at this point to goad it into attacking. As he approached, he managed for the first time in a good while to finish charging a fresh batch of energy, tossing it laterally to Calrex.

As he approached the wolf, shield and sword out and at the ready, once proud lupine snapped at everything part of Shield that came close enough to threaten it. He tried slashing at it with feint attacks, but all this did was prompt the wolf to leap back even further. He was going to have to wait for Calrex to make the next strike. Perhaps a little more damage would put the fire back in its belly.

"It doesn't want to play with me right now," Shield sighed. "See if you can convince it."

"Sure thing. Let's see if this is enough incentive."

Looking over at Blood Bane Calrex gave a calming breath, closing his eyes for a brief moment to center his stance. As his right hand balled up into a fist for All Might once again the bluenette glanced over for a brief second. It seemed that the light blue aura that normally formed and surrounded his fist had returned a bit faster than before, and it seemed to glow with a brighter intensity than his previous strike, "Huh, hopefully that's a good sign."

Rushing forward he pulled his right fist back, almost in a fluid motion with his steps, before thrusting it forward on his final step to have it connect dead center with where Blood Bane's right eye was set. A light red set of numbers flashed by, symbolizing the critical hit that Calrex had connected on the field boss as it stumbled backwards from the greater force of the blow.

The light blue aura dispersed immediately after it had completed as the Ultramarine Knight gave a nod before noticing that the larger wolf's eyes had glanced at him for a brief second before returning back to fixating on Shield's avatar, "Uh oh...that might not be a good sign."

The flicker of the beast's eyes did not escape Shield. He had three options. He could howl again, which although appropriate for the fight would only draw things out. He could attack to put pressure on, but again, there were better ways to get where they needed to go. He settled on the chance of ending it quickly. Opening his stance, he gave the wolf a clean shot at his body.

"Come on, then," he growled, beckoning Blood Bane forward with the tip of his blade. The sword was to taunt, but it had a key role to play should the wolf take his bait. The wolf, unable to tolerate the brazen invitation to attack, gave in to the provocation, lunging towards Shield with its fangs bared. Shield lifted the sword's tip, stabbing it into the oncoming attack and taking all of the momentum out of it, meanwhile dropping the creature's health far below what it would have been had it only suffered another round of thorns. "It's within kill range!" he called out to Calrex. "Finish him off!"

"On it!"

As Shield called out that Blood Bane had dropped low enough to be within a single strike threshold Calrex quickly rushed into action, taking a few steps forward before readying his Sword Art. His right fist drew back as he prepared to charge the attack, and this time around the light blue aura of energy seemed to burst into view, even faster than his last strike, "Well that seems even better than the last one."

The energy seemed to crackle and burn with power as the bluenette rushed forward, executing All Might with seemingly even more power behind the attack than before. As his right hand traveled through space it left behind a brief glint of energy before it all of the buildup behind his strike was unleashed against the larger wolf's head once again, bursting out like an explosion from the strike point.

Blood Bane's remaining health diminished to the very end of the visual bar before it seemed to freeze in place for a moment, following with a burst of crystals as its animal form broke apart.

"Well, that seems to have done the trick."

Shield straightened up from his lowered combat stance, holding out his fist for Calrex to tap before opening up his menus to navigate through his equipment. Without the battle raging around him, he could switch out more than one item at a time without fear of losing track of his surroundings.

"What do you say we make a quick jaunt up onto floor twenty one?" he asked his fellow front-liner. "I've been putting some points into chest finding. We might be able to get a little something extra out of our venture."

[Moving to Floor 21]

As soon as they left the safe zone, the small silver hoop earring blazed to life. The single thread of gold wire inlaid in the band blazed to life like a light bulb's filament.

"That's interesting," he thought aloud. "That means that there's something of value nearby." He glanced around, trying to discover the source, but there was nothing in the immediate area that would appear to be worth their time.

With the quest over Calrex gave a small sigh of relief before lowering his arms back to his sides. Not too long after he heard Shield give the suggestion that they take a stroll up to the 21st floor to do some loot gathering. It had certainly been some time since he was last up there, and from what had happened in the past few months, the bluenette knew he was going to be in need of some more Tier 3 materials for crafting new equipment.

Giving a nod the Ultramarine Knight approved, "Yeah, sounds like a good way to kill some more time. We certainly got rid of that field boss quick enough to warrant it."

Following the tankier player up to the cavernous floor Calrex looked around the various crags and other shadowed areas to see if he could discern anything, especially after Shield informed him that there was something nearby. Unfortunately, as the time had passed from his days as a more regular non-combat material gatherer, it seemed the touch for it had been lessened. Looking around the immediate area the bluenette shook his head, "Man I'm really rusty at this. Anything sticking out for you?"

Shield scanned the area, following the signals of the waxing and waning of his detector earring. It brought them to a tunnel that forked shortly after the entrance, and only after traveling first down the wrong side did they finally find what seemed to be the correct section of tunnel. However, as they walked, Shield noticed that his once bright earring had begun to dim once again. He paused, doubling back. Soon, he found himself standing in front of a torch bracket. He nodded to himself.

"I've seen this before," he said, nodding to the bracket. "Adventurers are so used to torches lining dungeon passages, but look either way along the passage. The rest of the floor is lit by fungi and crystals. And yet here we have this."

He reached out and pulled down on the bracket, and below, a section of the wall slid to the side. There, they found a chest, the lid of which was detailed like a demon's head, the horns of which made up the handles on the sides. "Pay dirt."

Looking over as Shield began to maneuver his way around the area in search of loot, almost as if the man himself was like a walking dousing rod, "Geezes that accessory certainly is doing a great job of narrowing things down. In the past I've usually tried to find things by thinking of where they would likely be and then narrowing it down from there. Guess that's kind of a representation of traditional versus technological practices in some fields."

Watching as his teammate came across something very unusual for the floor itself Calrex felt himself scratch the back of his head unconsciously, stopping when he heard the slight sound of metal scraping against metal due to his gauntlet rubbing against his helm, "How the heck did I miss that torch? It seems rather out in the open and definitely doesn't match the rest of the cavern around it."

When the chest slid out from the opening that had appeared from the mechanism's reaction the bluenette gave a nod, "Sweet, well I guess we'd better see what's inside. By the way, if you're not in a real need for material at the moment I can trade you the quest drop for them. I'm making some new gear and am in need of some, plus with my Battle Healing now maxed I'm not in as real a need for another regen booster."

Shield held out his golden key, watching it burst into a small shower of gold dust with a soft tinkle of metal as the lid of the chest popped open. A familiar dialog box popped up in front of the crack of the chest's opening and Shield frowned.

"I must be doing something wrong, because this loot is identical to the last two chests that I've opened, and it's a pretty poor haul at that," he sighed. Dismissing the window, he stood and selected the option to make the trade Calrex had suggested. "I'm fine with that. I don't have the hit points you do yet, so having a little extra regeneration is nothing but a boon to me." With that, he gave Calrex a brief wave. "I think I'm going to call it there. It's good to get to go through some of the new content, but my shop probably needs tending to. More quests means more gear that people will need identified."

With that, he gave a quick thumbs up before summoning and crushing a teleportation crystal and dissolving into the air.
