Spoiler

When she was little, Andromeda got lost in her family garden's hedge maze.

And she cried, and she wandered about aimlessly, and she cried for her caretakers when she realized finding the way back wasn't as easy when every corner looked the same. But nobody came for her. So she wiped her tears and tried again. It didn't take her long to realize every corner was not exactly the same: one was trimmed differently than the rest, another was laced with flower buds, and yet another had overgrown branches. A short time passed and she found her way out of the maze with a map in her head and her heart beating loud and fast in her chest. It wasn't from fear.

On that day, Harriette realized she had a penchant for the things she hadn't yet discovered.

The next day, she waved away her caretakers and was back at the maze with a pen and paper on hand, determined to see for herself what was its center. (It was a small garden of rare flowers with a decorative fountain made of marble). The next month, she started going to school and her antics quickly became a common topic at the dining table. She listened and laughed among her rather large and happy family of five as her father gently reprimanded her for diverting from the teacher's instructions during a science experiment to test out something new. The mess it made had been breathtaking. And the reprimands continued, becoming more serious and loaded with expectation as the years passed. It didn't matter. She was a curious child, to the point of being excessively eager, and it wasn't difficult to convince her to study. She found everything interesting.

Interest inevitably led to adventure.

She liked the sciences, and astronomy became a particular favorite of hers. But she liked learning at her own pace. She shot ahead of her science class but her grades suffered in everything else. She was no longer the star student. And she thought she was happy until the conversations at her family's dinner table became less pleasant. They stopped understanding her and she stopped understanding them.

She liked many other things. Making friends; every person gave a different experience. Books; every book had a different story to immerse herself in and well-developed fictional worlds to fantasize about were only an added bonus. Travel; every road trip with her friends meant a new place to explore and she promised to herself she would explore the world and perhaps even the world beyond the sky one day.

And looking for adventure, Harriette turned to games.

Games were almost too good to be true. She could make friends, experience stories, and explore vast fictional worlds all within the confines of her room. She was particularly drawn to MMOs and it was during this phase that an announcement for the world's first VRMMO dropped. Knowing she had to get it before game guides spoiled everything to her, she focused her efforts on taking a part-time job to earn money and appealing to her parents for the rest. It wasn't an easy task, but she had always prided herself on one thing: chasing ceaselessly after the things she wanted whether it be a small token or a lifelong dream.

She logged into SAO on its day of release as Andromeda.

Curiosity might have just killed the cat.

- 0 -

+ Adventurous
Having grown up dreaming of foreign worlds and brave conquests, An was drawn to SAO by the thought of finding a similar sort of adventure. Even now, that desire hasn't been completely extinguished and is one of the few things that has kept her going for the past two years. Aincrad is rife with places yet to be explored, stories yet to be written, and mechanics yet to be learned and exploited and An might just be the right person for that job.

+ Passionate
You might easily recall it as a prime keyword in motivational speeches. "The key to success is not money or smarts, but the desire to follow your dreams!" An holds that same mindset: when she decides she wants something, she does what she can to get it - all while never losing sight of her motivation - and she strongly believes that she will attain it with enough effort.

+ Sincere
Not very keen on keeping secrets, An is what many would describe as an open book. Pent-up emotions are unhealthy and the only proper way to finding a solution with a group is one where everyone speaks their mind without pretense, she learned early on in her life. She expresses her feelings as they come to her, in a way that even the less perceptive would find it easy to get a read on her, and she doesn't hold back on her opinion when prompted to.

- Reckless
Spontaneity and an unhealthy dose of curiosity does have its drawbacks. Always chasing endlessly after her whims, she has little to no regard of consequences and sometimes the people around her - with the worst result of this being her gradually deteriorating relationship of her family due to her lack of compliance to their expectations. And while some might think it would result in the opposite, in a game with full pain filter where results of bad decisions can only (for the most part) be reflected in one's HP bar, her lack of consideration would only have doubled.

- Stubborn
She decided she didn't like school rules or studying at the pace she's expected to, so she didn't follow them despite her parents' warnings. She decided she wanted to go on a road trip with her friends so when her parents didn't allow her, she dug her feet in and refused to back down. She decided she was in the right in a disagreement with a friend and she didn't back down, even as they lost their friendship in the resulting argument. An wants to do something; An wants to do it her way. Nothing, not even reason, can change her mind when it's set.

- Emotional
Acting on emotional impulse isn't a foreign thing to An, and being an expressive person doesn't help her case either. Though pleasant to be with when in a good mood, she often becomes unreasonable and oversensitive when things go sour. She likes to think that she's just more in touch with her emotions than most, but this results in her having the tendency to get carried away by them.

jack's corrupted legacy
T2E4 WEAPON (RAPIER). CURSED, BLIGHT II, BURN
[reference] "...and they shall cast them into the furnace of fire, where there was weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth." a malicious, unstable weapon hidden beneath a plain semblance. patterns of vines and fleur-de-lis are etched onto its black swept hilt and its blade is 38 in. long. it takes on a crimson red aura when a sword art is activated. at random, unpredictable occurrences, the weapon will burst into flames - sometimes red, sometimes a darker hue, and sometimes a pitch black in color - and inflict a strong damage-over-time effect on its enemy.
[acquired]

carol of the bells
T2E4 ARMOR (HA). CURSED, MITIGATION II, FROST AURA
red velvet, fluffy white trim, drops all the way down to the user's knees. it is very obviously a santa cloak. andromeda will never leave vanity details to npcs ever again. ++ post-reset, the system has added a pauldron on the left shoulder and adjusted the measurements of the item to have it resemble a cape. somehow, it can still deflect missiles?
[acquired] [converted]

svalinn
T2E4 SHIELD. CURSED, MITIGATION, FROST AURA, FROST THORNS
"the shield which once stood before the sun and kept the earth from being set aflame." a small round shield perpetually encased in a thick layer of unyielding ice. its surface is uneven, with sharp ice crystals jutting out and rising up, and any attack aimed at it would sure result in a nasty counter-effect. attacks made from afar or otherwise aren't left without retribution either, as the opponent would feel themselves surrounded by an intense chill. when equipped alongside any item with a flame enhancement, the ice becomes dyed with an auburn hue but does not lose any of its intensity.
