[F1 - R10 Tailor] The Crusty Bahrnacle

Recommended Posts

"On the house," Bahr muttered dismissively, hoisting the man's freshly crafted tunic onto the counter. "Whether I charge or not, this is the sort of business that's gonna lose money. The investment is in making sure dumbasses like you don't get yourselves killed."

As his eyes fell back to the next piece on the docket, a thought occurred to him. "Not that I'm saying you're a dumbass," he corrected, peering back up toward the rather ordinary looking fellow. But as he saw the man gaping at Arabelle and himself as though he somehow wasn't in the middle of a Japanese MMO alongside them, he shook his head, and returned his attention to his work.

"Never mind."

"Yeah, uh," he blankly stared at the man for a minute as he rattled off something that sounded more like self-satisfaction than actually goodwill, but then, Corvo was jaded enough to know most people trapped in this world had developed hero complexes and probably thought they were doing god's work. "Thanks... I guess?" In reality, the words were only slightly kind, so it wasn't strange that the red haired Player took them sourly- even if that wasn't really the intention.

This guy didn't really seem like the type to say something he didn't mean, though. People who looked like Christmas trees were flashy and wore their hearts on their sleeve. It was textbook extraversion, at least, that was Corvo's prognosis. Someone who wasn't afraid to tell the world they felt pretty and there was nothing anyone else could do about it. Hell, sometimes Corvo felt pretty, too. Usually when he was stabbing something.

"Yeah, dumbasses," he repeated the sentiment albeit with some uncertainty about which direction he intended it. Absently, he glanced one last time to the others before he accepted the piece of armor. "You keep up the... work," Corvo shot Bahr finger guns as he backed toward the door, wary that some catgirl would jump out at him. When he made it to the exit, he saluted one last time before he turned and left, lighting up a cigarra as he went.

The smoke plumed behind him like a locomotive.

In hopes of finding his friend James, Roxis search around the Town of Beginnings for hours. It was unlikely that he would still be here. But at least it was a start. Hours into his search, Roxis realized he didn't recognize his environment. It looked to be that he had some how ended up in the rough part of town. As he glances around, Roxis notices a shop. Maybe he could get directions there.

As Roxis enters the shop, he notices the walls were lined with what seemed to be armor. He looks down at his outfit as he was still wearing the gear he started with. While he's here, maybe he should look for some new armor so he could survive in this world. He glances over to the counter and sees a bell. He gives it a slight slap and it gives a ring through the building.

"Excuse me? Is anybody here?"

Sure is a busy one, today, Bahr caught himself thinking as the chime of bells attached to his front door heralded the arrival of yet another customer. While the Crusty Bahrnacle had seen steady business once upon a time, its traffic had atrophied in recent months as a result of his preparations for the most recent Floor Boss. But, as it had been slain, he'd found himself with a sum of spare time on his hands. Other Players, too, it seemed, had minutes to spare. The system update likely had people scouring whatever shops they could find for gear, as well.

But as his singular exposed eye fell upon the man who now stood in the foyer of his shop, he witnessed something he hadn't in quite a while. The boy was wearing starter gear, as though he'd only recently descended into Aincrad. There were stranger sights, to be sure, but it hitched Bahr's breath in his throat as he gazed upon the newcomer.

"Yeah, I'm here," he muttered, fetching a standard armor from one of the shelves behind his counter. "You look awfully fragile. Something like this might trend your survivability chance out there upward - along with your general sense of fashion." He presented the cloak by placing it on the counter, motioning for the youth to seize it.

"Take it. First one's a freebie."

Roxis developed a discouraged look on his face as the shop owner's word fell on him. He wasn't wrong. Roxis was still really new to this game and didn't have much of an understanding of how everything worked. But still, the dark cloak with orange stitching on the counter caught his appeal. He grasped the cloak and inspected it as he put it on. It was hard to believe how this cloak just happened to be a perfect fit. He glanced up at the man on the other end of the counter.

"Are you sure there isn't some way that I could repay?"

The man's offer was quite generous. Too generous almost. Roxis held a slight uneasy feeling about someone just giving him a nice cloak without anything in return. Surely there was some way he could repay him for his generosity.

Oji stepped into the quiet abode of this nice shop. He had heard tale and rumor of a pretty good Tailor on the first floor when he had stayed there for the first year, but he never had the need or the col to buy any products. But now times had changed and he decided that it would be worth his time and his own safety to get some armor. He was about to ring a bell, but he saw that there was a bit of paper and pen, and he decided to just make an order since he didn't see anyone behind the counter. He chalked down the design, desired enchantments and then decided that he'd leave the rest for the owner to make. He left his name for him to be contacted when the order was done, then went back out to get a nice cup of sake at the inn nearby

The neat thing about having apparently made a shop with one's name in it was that, if that individual happened to lose all of their memories, it would make finding a place they could find their own a little easier. Having crashed on a couch in his office since finding this place, he'd never really been worried about basic things such as locking up, or even tending to the business he knew absolutely nothing about. In his mind, he was more or less squatting in someone else's place.

But as he lazily walked up to the front counter and noticed the order form, he felt an itch. Something he couldn't quite describe. Something he knew. Tailoring was something he'd noticed in his skill tree, and by all means this seemed to be a clothing shop. But could he actually stitch together something like these requests detailed? There was only one way to find out.

To his surprise, the very first attempt was an immaculate success. The second suit took a few tries, but ultimately turned out alright with little to no effort. Seemed like he had a knack for this sort of thing after all. Was it something that could be profitable?

Who knew. But after fumbling a bit with the messaging panel, he was inevitably able to shoot a message to the patron, letting him know his commission was ready.

Before Oji had even been able to enjoy his first cup of Sake, he had received a message from the owner of the Barnacle, and he whistled out loud. "That was fast." He muttered. He paid for the drink then went outside and headed back to the tailor shop. He opened up the door and saw the owner and his order waiting for him. He came over and took the clothes, adding them to his inventory with a smile. "Thank you so much, it means a lot, really." He save a wave then headed back outside, his order done and one step closer to helping on the frontlines.

Morningstar peeked into The Crusty Bahrnacle, checking to see if anyone was around. At first glance, it seemed like the owner was out. He stepped in anyway.

"There's no way you weren't a villain in the past," he called out, shutting the door behind him. The shop was in a rough part of town. Morningstar had actually never been to the sketchy areas of the Town of Beginnings and to be honest, his time there so far hadn't made him want to return. He stepped up to the counter, eyeing up the store's decor. Clothing hung behind the counter next to a set of light armor.

Upon finding the order forms, he decided to fill one out with his idea. Finally, it was time for an upgrade. He wrote out the specifics of the custom armor he wanted and left it for Bahr, wherever he was. Then, he dove back into the rowdy streets of the Town of Beginnings.

Bahr had heard the man call out from the parlor while he toiled away in his back office, something about being a villain. He smirked at the young man's jab, trying to think of something clever in response. But as Bahr wasn't known for being particularly snappy with his comebacks, and because he took his sweet time removing his ass from its plush seat, by the time he ventured out into the shop to speak with Morningstar the lad was gone. It did, however, appear that he had left behind some sort of commission paperwork for Bahr to take a look at. And, so, the crimson-clad tailor scooped up the sheet of paper and inspected its contents.

The design for the armor was solid, albeit complicated. Nothing the old Bahr would have had trouble with, certainly. But this new Bahr wasn't sure he was up to the task. Still, a companion was asking for his help, and it felt slimy to deny him that.

It took a few tries, the first couple attempts resulting in grotesque amalgamations of mismatched leathers and cheap tin. But, on this third try, all of the pieces lined up beautifully. He could hardly consider himself the sort of artisan that held a candle to the original Bahr's work, but this had to come pretty close, he figured.

When the item was complete, he sent a message to @Morningstar to let him know his commission was ready for pickup.

Bahr's message to Morningstar was received instantly. "Quick for someone with no memories," he chuckled, closing his menu and looking up at the clouds. Then, he pushed himself up off of the soft grass and headed towards town.

Once again, the part of town Bahr's shop was located in came off as unpleasant. Nonetheless, he trekked through, periodically checking behind him to make sure nobody weird was following him. He arrived at the location and entered, meeting Bahr's eyes at the desk to the side. The armor was sitting there next to the man, ready to be worn.

"That looks incredible," he said, stepping up to get a closer look, "it's exactly how I pictured it."

Bahr offered the item for free and while Morningstar would normally argue such an offer, he gratefully accepted.

"Thank you, Bahr. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with," Morningstar said.

The door to the shop opened, and Ghost walked in, her blank expression taking in the interior which greatly differed from the outside. Realistically, she didn't know what exactly had brought her here. One moment, she was on the main road in the Town of Beginnings, and the next thing she knew, she was down some unknown alleyway. Looking at her menu map, she was surprised to see how well hidden the shop even was on there.

Thinking for a moment, she pulled up her currency, reading 4,736 col... Koga did mention that I needed to look into buying some actual armor... Maybe I could get some from here? Nodding in confirmation, she noticed some sets of nice looking light armor on the walls. Walking up to the front counter, a menu popped up showing a request form that scared the heck out of her, having not been prepared for it. Taking a breath, she looked through the available options. Then her eyes widened for a moment, noticing that there were plushies. Several moments passed, before she started filling two forms out at an incredible pace, suddenly undoubtedly inspired.
