Word from the Info Brokers was that there was a field boss roaming around Floor 2. There was some sort of interaction between killing <<Wind Wasps>> in the area and successfully spawning the boss. Oscar sat in the tavern inside Urbus, staring at the quest board. In the corner sat Gatsly. The poor guy had another request back up. Apparently killing the <<Venom Snapper>> didn't take and his caravans are under attack again, bless his heart. Though, with his experience fighting the <<Venom Snapper>> under his belt, he felt confident that he could handle taking on this quest as well. He didn't want to do it alone, however. Perhaps someone would be in need of help with it and he could kill two birds with one stone. He would get his good deed in for the day, but he would also make some progress towards cleaning out these requests that he had the ability to do but hadn't yet gotten around to doing them. Leeroy & Jenkins curled up on the floor. Leeroy napped peacefully while Jenkins was alert and looking around the Tavern.

Wind Wasp
20 HP
10 DMG

No one had showed up, even after an hour or so of waiting. Frustrated and ready to make progress, Oscar sighed and rose from his seat. He headed out of the city and towards the location where he heard that Wind Wasps spawned. Leeroy and Jenkins padded along behind him, occasionally stopping to sniff the odd scent or two. Eventually, Oscar arrived at his destination and drew his sword. The hum of buzzing filled the air as a Wind Wasp swooped down from the heavens, stinger outstretched. Oscar swatted at it with his blade, but missed by a mile. He winced as the large stinger punched through his shoulder. Despite only doing one damage, it still hurt like a mother. Much like a bee sting in real life, he mused. He tracked the wasp in the sky and made ready to strike as it came in for another pass. He couldn't very well take the fight to it, so he'd have to wait on the ground.

The Wasp swooped down for another pass and Oscar swatted at it again. Unfortunately, the aerodynamic form of the creature made for a very difficult-to-hit target and he whiffed his attack. The Wasp was able to land another sting on Oscar's other shoulder, which, again, hurt like a mother. Oscar steadied his grip and blocked out all but the wasp. Hopefully but focusing intently on the target, he would be able to land a clean blow and thus dispatch this enemy. The Wasp buzzed about overhead, flying erratically. But Oscar followed it with his eyes. He tracked the target perfectly, as did Leeroy and Jenkins. This next round would be the end of it, he was sure. All he had to do was remained focused, keep his eyes on the prize, and swing with all of his might. Then he would get to do it all over again when the Wind Wasp Queen spawned in.

His focus paid off! As the wasp came in for a third pass, Oscar sheathed his blade. He remained calm as the creature zigged and zagged through the air. His eyes followed the creature with otherworldly accuracy. The wasp didn't escape his gaze for a moment. Then, the moment it was in range for a Tsuji Kaze, Oscar lashed out. His arm traveled faster than the eye could see. His blade bit into the wasp and bisected it. The creature exploded into thousands of fractal shards, which were carried forward by its momentum. The shards passed harmlessly over Oscar's head as a stiff breeze caught them and caused them to be blown off onto the horizon. It was then that he heard a louder, angrier buzzing. He looked skyward and saw the silhouette of his target upon the morning sun. The Wind Wasp Queen had arrived. It was time to begin the battle in earnest.

<<Wind Wasp Queen>>
HP 50
DMG: 20

The Queen had arrived. Just like with the wasp from before, she circled overhead ominously. Her jet-black stinger glinted in the sunlight. That thing looked like it would hurt terribly. He'd have to make a point to avoid being on the receiving end of that thing. Suddenly, she swooped down, her deadly stinger outstretched. Oscar was surprised, but not so much that he was caught flat-footed. He nimbly dipped out of the way of the stinger. Then, he swiped at the creature, attempting to deal some damage with a Sword Art. But, he fell short. Oscar hopped backwards and checked his footing. Even though the Queen was bigger, it was still just as elusive as its smaller counterpart. He'd have to focus up if he wanted to end this fight before he wound up taking a sting. That would not be fun, not one bit.

The Queen headed skywards again, her initial pass having dealt no damage. Oscar followed her with his eyes as she ascended, his grip on his blade shifting. She buzzed around overhead, darting this way and that. Her jerky movements definitely made for a difficult-to-hit target. But she could only attack him head-on. That was the saving grace here. As long as he avoided the stinger, he would be fine. After a few seconds, the Queen dove down. Her jet-black stinger stretched outward as she surged through the air towards Oscar. Like a matador, though, Oscar was able to sidestep the blow as if she were a charging bull. Then, he sliced quickly with his blade, Najarala traveling in a half-moon arc. It just barely missed the creature. Oscar swore under his breath and took a step backwards, eyes intently fixed upon his enemy. The Queen ascended once more and Oscar prepared for the third round.

Oscar focused for a moment. Using the lessons learned from the Gemini, he activated his <<Concentration>> skill. His eyes glowed a bright green as the skill effect activated, enhancing his accuracy by a bit. He could make out every stripe on the Wind Wasp Queen’s sleek form. Every glint of light off of her exoskeleton. He could even hear the sounds of her buzzing wings over the winds. When she eventually charged, he was ready. His blade erupted with a light blue aura as he spun on his heels and delivered a powerful semi-circular slash to the insect. Najarala’s gilded edge bit deep into the Queen. The venom that coated the blade sank deep into its body, paralyzing it. It crashed, rather unceremoniously, to the ground. It would be unable to move for a time. Hopefully, it would give Oscar the opportunity he needed to finish it off. A basic attack would do the trick.

The <<Concentration>> skill had faded. The aftermath of the skill was so jarring that when Oscar attempted to make a finishing blow, the sudden dullness of his senses caused him to miss his attack. The Paralysis had faded and the Queen attempted to sting Oscar’s leg. He was able to hop away, which activated his Savvy enhancement once again. The Queen was sitting on two health points. The universe was teasing him with a near miss when he would otherwise shred through her remaining pool of health almost four times over. It was agonizingly annoying. Frustratingly vexing. His own inability to hit a stationary target would have made him the butt of many jokes had there been anyone around to witness his massive failure. Fortunately, there was no such entity around him. He could take solace in the fact that no one would be able to regale anyone else with the tale of Oscar’s buffoonery.

Oscar thanked his lucky stars that the Queen had not yet rendered herself airborne. His Paralysis effect had, fortunately, come with the wonderful side effect of discombobulating the annoying wasp. This provided Oscar with ample opportunity to recover from his previous missed blow and finally deliver the felling strike. He drove his blade deep into the Queen. Her wings batted the blade of his sword in protest, pinging off the edge of the metal. After a beat, she stopped twitching and shattered into thousands of fractal shards. Only her stinger was left behind. Oscar carefully picked it up, sheathed his blade, and headed back up to one of the higher floors. Those enemies had been so weak that they hadn't actually dropped anything useful other than the stinger. He wouldn't be going to bed tonight until he had something decent to show for the day.

On his way back to Urbus, Oscar took the scenic route again. True, the last time he did this he ran into a bear. But he felt as if the scenery was well worth the risk to himself. It was a good thing he did too. Oscar found himself back at the river where he fought the bear. Spawning trout were still swimming up river, leaping from beneath the surface every so often. Further upriver, he could see bears dotting the shoreline, their razor-sharp teeth attempting to capture the fish as they leaped from a lower elevation to a higher one. Even in a game, nature was a wonderful sight to behold and a good way to recenter yourself after combat. He hadn't suffered much damage from the two back-to-back fights. He did, however burn through his energy bar. A small rest before seeking a stronger enemy was certainly in order. He noticed a flower shining at his feet and picked up it, thankful for nature's bounty gifting him with a much-needed crafting material.

Oscar sat upon his rock for a while longer. The cool breeze on his face and the sound of rushing water did wonders for the soul. He smiled softly and looked skyward. The sun warmed his face and body. His worries faded away as he lost himself in the the sounds and sensations around him. Eventually, however, he was snapped out of his reverie by the feeling of something brushing against his boot. He looked down and saw a fish desperately floundering about between his feet. An errant jump had gifted Oscar with nature's bounty yet again. He picked up the fish and added it to his pack. Another material for use in the kitchen, to be sure. He felt relaxed and loose. It was time to head back to town. He rose from his seat, part of his soul aching to relish in the outdoors for a while longer. But he had things to do today. Couldn't keep putting that off to lounge around on a rock until a bear showed up.

Oscar dragged himself away from the river and back to town. On his way, he picked up another errant fish and added it to his pack. As sad as he was to depart, he was also excited to get a spot of training done. The wasps had been less of a challenge than he would have liked. He strode through the gates of Urbus with a smile on his face. He felt almost zen-like now that he'd had a moment to maintain his emotional state. Oscar strode onto the Teleportation Platform gleefully and warped up a few floors. Five, to be precise. He stepped off of the platform and onto the streets of Deepedge. The familiar territory gave Oscar a sense of calm as he searched for an enemy to polish his skills on. Plus, he'd left Leeroy and Jenkins at home and really wanted to pick those guys up before he did any sort of real challenging combat. He left the city and headed out to his Manor. The moment he walked through the door, the two-headed Cerberus leaped into his arms, both heads licking his face with gusto.

"Hey guys! You ready for walkies?!"

Giant Spider
HP: 150
DMG: 45
EVA: -3
ACC: 3

Oscar and his familiar didn't have to go far before they discovered a worthy enemy to really sink their teeth into. A giant spider clambered over the rocky crags of Floor Seven. Its mandibles clicked together at the sight of the man and his companion. An easy meal, by all reckoning. After all, what damage could a man do to a hunter that was half its size? That question was answered fairly quickly. Oscar dashed in and sliced the spider across the eyes with his blade. The spider reeled backwards, stumbling over its legs. He then dealt a stiff uppercut to the underside of the arachnid's maw, following by a second slash. The gargantuan spider was stunned and unable to act this turn. Oscar looked absolutely vicious. It was almost as if spiders were a bit of a sore spot for him. As with most people, Oscar was unnerved by the sight of spiders. The sight of a giant spider, however, had him on a murderous rampage that would not stop until the spider was smeared across the stones and away from him.

Oscar spun on his heels, throwing his back into his strike, and cut a deep gash into the spider with Gen Getsu. By this time, the stun had worn off so the spider was free to attack. It lunged forward and tried to sink its fangs into Oscar's neck. But the azure-clad samurai was too quick for the spider to get a clean hit on. He dodged out of the way nimbly, the fangs barely missing the supple flesh of his neck. Then, he cleaved right on through two of the spider's legs as compensation for the almost-hit. The spider stumbled, but still had six legs to work with and quickly corrected its balance. Oscar was having none of that though. He dashed forward, needling the underside of the creature's belly with myriad thrusts before rolling through the gap in the legs he had created and hopping to his feet. Leeroy & Jenkins growled lowly, their ears flush with their head as they tracked the arachnid's movements. Oscar fought like a man possessed. All he wanted was for this spider to not be in front of him anymore.

Oscar lashed out again, slicing through another leg with a Gen Getsu. He had absolutely shredded the spider's health bar and the enemy had yet to land a hit. That is, until it lifted up one of the legs it still had and blatted Oscar across the head with it. Oscar staggered forward, frozen for a moment at the shock of the sudden blow. Then, he lifted his eyes skyward. He bore a frenzied expression. His eyes blazed with the force of 1000 suns. Even the spider wilted under his hateful gaze. Oscar rushed forward, dancing and weaving through the spider's legs. As he passed one, he skillfully removed the leg from the body with a sharp blow from Najarala. A few seconds after he was hit, the spider thudded to the ground, nubs where its legs used to be. It was completely defenseless. Unable to move. Unable to run. Completely at Oscar's mercy. Oscar twisted his wrist, twirling his blade about, and calmly strode over to the prone spider.

The Spider was completely at his mercy. Just how Oscar liked it. He strode over to the spider and slashed it across the face one final time. The remainder of its health bar plummeted towards zero. Upon reaching zero, the spider and all of its plucked legs disappeared into an burst of fractal shards. Oscar collect his loot - some money, materials, and a trinket - before sheathing his sword. Without the giant spider around, he was able to calm down and get off of his rampage. Leeroy & Jenkins sat down and relaxed, their ears perking up at the sight of their master no longer being in danger. Both of them panted while looking towards Oscar. Their tongues lolled out of their mouths as they waited patiently for the pets they so rightly deserved. Oscar smiled at the pair of them and sat down on the stones next to his behemoth of familiar before scratching behind their ears.

"Good boys. Did a real good job there."

Just as he had done on Floor 2, Oscar decided to sit down and relax here. Like the first round of combat, he'd not suffered much actual damage, but he had almost completely blazed through his energy bar. He didn't know what he was doing wrong, but his energy could barely last him a single fight before he was running on fumes. There had to be a better way to maintain his energy. Perhaps he just wasn't dishing out enough damage. His level was still low. Perhaps it was just par for the course. But he couldn't help but feel like if the enemies kept getting stronger that his energy would never stabilize. He stretched out on a rock and looked skyward, still a bit on edge from the unnerving combat encounter he'd just taken part in. At least his energy regenerated to full fairly quickly. He supposed that it would give him time to smell the roses in between fights if he ever made an concerted effort to hunt.

Oscar stretched out on the rock. The forest had been nice, but the crisp mountain air was even better. It didn't take long before the effects of the spider had washed away completely. Leeroy & Jenkins curled up on the ground at his feet, Leeroy snoozing while Jenkins kept watch. Oscar dozed off himself, letting his mind be carried to pleasant dreams for a change. It had been years that he wasn't haunted by nightmares. But now, he'd made peace with the atrocities of the past and let them go. He still mourned the loss of his young friend, but he could no longer let that be the driving force in his life. Grief is perfectly healthy. But not when you lose yourself in it. Oscar had clawed his way back to the surface and he was now reaping the rewards of a peaceful slumber and painless existence. He slept upon that rock without a care in the world until the sun began to disappear over the horizon. A sudden chill roused him from his slumber. It was time to head home.

As he sat up and stretched out, Oscar noticed a shiny patch on the ground between his feet. He reached down and interacted with the gathering spot. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes with one hand as progress bar filled. Once it was done, a single material was deposited into his inventory. He rose to his feet, stretching a bit more to get the stiffness out of his joints and looked around. It was beginning to get dark. He'd spent most of the day sleeping. A slight disappointment, but he wasn't one to argue with his body. If it needed sleep, it needed sleep. He felt quite refreshed, despite sleeping on a rock. A sharp whistle passed his lips, calling his familiar to attention. Together, the two of them headed off towards home. They'd take the scenic route, however. No use letting this wonderful mountainous biome go to waste. It was one thing to go through the motions, but now that he actually had the ability to enjoy things again, the small stuff was never taken for granted.

As he walked, Oscar scanned around for materials. In the darkness, the glimmering gathering locations should have stuck out like a sore thumb. But, alas, there was nothing within his vicinity. He didn't let that get him down though. He stopped at the edge of a cliff and looked towards the horizon. The sky was painted with hues of orange and pink as the sun dipped down low. There was nothing quite like watching a good sunset from atop a mountain. As the last vestiges of light faded from the sky, Oscar turned and headed back home. He was still rather tired, but that was probably because he was hungry enough to eat a horse. Oscar deftly strode down the mountain path. Even in the dark, he was so accustomed to the mountainous terrain that he stepped unerringly without stumbling. Eventually, he reached the hill overlooking his manor. He took a deep breath and smiled. Almost home.
