Another day, another message from Ali. Oscar groaned in annoyance. The last quest the man had sent him on had been entirely too disappointing. He wondered whether this one would be any different. So, Oscar got himself up out of his very comfy armchair, grabbed Chaos Eater from out of the corner and set about making his way up to the 13th Floor. He didn't have very high hopes for this particular outing, but SP was SP. Speaking of, he made a point to get himself some training in at the Mega Slime Farm. That alone would make this outing more than worth his while. Once he was done exterminating the slimes that had propagated in the pen, he considered for a moment whether or not he wanted to buff up. He scowled and shook his head. No sense wasting his consumables over another one of Ali's wild goose chases. He headed down to Deepedge with his preparations made and warped up to the 13th Floor without any further distractions. A few moments later and he was walking into the tavern he'd been summoned to, just in time to hear the man begin to completely lose his mind.

"Slander!" Ali's voice quelled the noise that had filled the tavern. Oscar had to duck to dodge a mug that came flying towards his head. He sighed and looked back at the ale that was now dripping down to the floor. He shook his head and headed for the table. Contrary to his previous interactions, Ali had companion with him today. The striking red-haired woman stared holes into Oscar who was altogether uncomfortable with this entire situation. Ali was drunk, a state Oscar wished he was in right now, all while his lovely companion looked like she wanted to murder[censored] him. He almost wanted to walk out the door, but then that wouldn't get this quest done. He'd already come all the way here. The least he could do is hear Ali out. At least, as soon as he stopped frothing at the mouth long enough to articulate what was bothering him.

Eventually, Ali had calmed himself down enough. Before, the man was out of his seat, pacing circles around the table, shouting about this, that, and the third. From what Oscar was able to gather from his raving was that the thieves that he had had the special pleasure of dealing with in the past two quests were busy talking smack about Ali and himself around town. He wasn't exactly sure how NPCs could spread rumors, but he assumed that given this was a quest, they were programmed to do so.

"Someone should teach them a lesson!" Ali exclaimed as he returned to his seat in a huff. The red-haired woman, who until now had been staring unblinkingly at Oscar, turned her head to Ali. That seemed to tip him off that there was forgetting something. "Ah Oscar, you're here," he began, only now acknowledging the man who had been sitting there for minutes. "This is my associate Morgiana. Why don't the two of you go teach these miscreants a lesson?"

Before Oscar could say 'no thanks,' Morgiana was out of her seat and heading for the door. It seemed that he was going to have to be accompanied by this strange woman for the duration of the quest - something that, honestly, he wasn't really looking forward to. He sighed heavily and followed her out the door. Wasn't like he had anything else better to do right now and, at this point, he'd committed to seeing the quest through to the end. The two of them strode through the back alleys of the city, you know, places where you'd expect to be attacked by thieves. As Oscar rounded a corner following Morigana, he found himself nose-to-nose with the woman. She advanced quickly, forcing Oscar to scramble back until he was flush with the wall. She bored holes in his eye sockets with her steely gaze. Then, inexplicably, it softened. She let out a small sigh and stepped back, leaving Oscar absolutely confused as to what was actually going on here.

"What the hell is your problem," Oscar questioned. He was getting a little tired of the cold shoulder that this woman was giving him. He didn't feel as if he had done anything to earn such disrespect from someone who he'd only just met. Someone who was a mutual acquaintance of Ali's at that. He felt that he had always been straight enough in his dealings with the man that a fellow associate should take that as evidence that he wasn't a terrible person. At his questioning, Morgiana stopped cold and turned to face him, her steely gaze fixed upon him once more. Then she spoke:

"I was trying to size you up. Ali had told me all that you had done for him in the past. I needed to see what type of man you were for myself. I have done that. Now that I have, I will fight by your side."

"Oh," Oscar responded. "Neat."

With Oscar and Morgiana now on the same page, now it was time to deal with the douchebags bad-mouthing Ali and him all over town. Morgiana seemed to have a keen understanding when it came to the seedy underbelly of the city. Under her guidance, she led Oscar straight to the thieves' hideout. Oscar, no longer unnerved by the fiery-haired woman, approached the entrance with much more confidence than before. He stepped up to the door, raised his foot, and slammed it into the surface near the knob. The door burst inward and Oscar stepped inside with a confident smirk. He set his eyes upon the four thieves that had been milling about prior to his intrusion, in their shock having not yet reached for their weapons. As Chaos Eater was retrieved from his back, Oscar spoke.

"Heard y'all was talkin' sh*t."

Chaos Eater whipped around his body as he activated his Explode Catapult Sword Art. While kicking down the door had made for a flashy entrance, it had also resulted in no small amount of dust being kicked up at his sudden incursion. Due to this, he struggled a bit finding his mark - two of the thieves had escaped his reach. Two still managed to land their marks. He winced as their daggers sunk into his flesh. To make matters worse, Morgiana could not make it into the room to assist with his tall frame blocking the doorway. But then he looked at the pitiful damage the thieves had managed to do. Understanding flashed in their eyes for a moment as he twisted off to the left, yanking their daggers from his form in the process. When he stopped, he rested Chaos Eater on his shoulder and flipped them off.

"I really thought you guys would have started pumping iron after I kicked your friends' asses the first two times."

The mood of the room shifted. When Oscar had appeared, the air was thick with surprise. Then, the murderous intent of the thieves resonated through the four walls of the hideout. However, it quickly became apparent that even with the four of them, they still couldn't hope to match Oscar. To make matters worse, Oscar had help. Up until now, the hot dog man had been trouncing the gang up and down Castle Aincrad. That wouldn't change today. As realization seemed to sink in for the thieves, their fear was thick upon the air. They were no longer fighting to repel and intruder. They were fighting for survival. A futile endeavor, but unlike players, NPCs can't flee. And so they were stuck in combat, await the inevitable. If Oscar had been a different sort of man, Oscar might have elected to prolong their suffering. But he wanted this to be over more than they did, so he wasn't about to waste his own time bullying NPCs. He fired off an Explode Catapult, again narrowly missing one of the thieves. But in its haste to dodge, it ran straight into Morgiana's fist, stunning it. The other two lashed out at Oscar with their daggers, but hit only air. Oscar sighed.

"I'd say we needed to talk about your training regimen, but you're not gonna live long enough to use it."

After seeing one of their own bite it so suddenly, the remaining thieves seemed to have given up the ghost. Despite maintaining their combat stances, they seemed to know what was coming next. Oscar had been cleaving through their ranks like a hot knife through butter and Morgiana was brutalizing the bastards with a ferocity as frightening as her gaze. Oscar readied Chaos Eater and launched his attack. Two of the three remaining goons fell to his blade. The one that remained standing took a step towards Oscar, intent on using its last moments on trying to land one more parting blow. It was at that moment that Morgiana came flying in from the left. Airborne, she spun around, delivering a powerful kick under the thief's chin. Blasted back by the impact of the blow, the man slammed into the wall as Morgiana landed lightly on the wooden floor. As he shattered into a million tiny shards, Morgiana straightened her hair and cast her piercing gaze over Oscar once more.

"Let's go."

Morgiana led the way. At first, he thought she was leading him back to the tavern to report in to Ali. But then he remembered that all these quests had two acts. In the first act, you dealt with thieves and in the second you dealt with another objective and then more thieves. This was confirmed with Morgiana led Oscar out into the wastes. She scanned the area as she walked, clearly looking for something. Oscar decided to follow her lead and look as well. Only, he didn't know what exactly he was looking for. Morgiana was tight-lipped as usual. Hopefully, it would be something obvious. If not, he surmised that he would have to rely on Morgiana pointing him in the right direction. That, of course, was assuming that she actually spoke up. The girl seemed to have something against speaking. It was creepy. It was almost as if he were out here alone, honestly.

Together, the two of them walked through the wilderness, both of them scanning the area in search of an as-of-yet revealed thing. Finally, Morgiana stopped. Oscar hoped for a moment that she had found what they were looking for. Abruptly, she turned on her heels and got in his face. Anger flared in her eyes.

"Why don't you speak?" She asked.

Oscar blinked, taken aback. "Why don't you speak? All you do is look at me like you want to kill me."

Another awkward silence passed between them before, finally she stepped back and began to laugh. Her expression seemed to soften for a moment as she clapped her hands together. "I can't believe it! The way Ali talked, he had me convinced you were some kind of badass. It was a little intimidating. Looks like I was intimidating you."

That was an understatement. Honestly, Oscar didn't know what kind of badass Ali had purported him to be, but he was certain there there didn't exist a human with enough badassery in the world to not feel like an ant beneath her steely gaze. Now, though, she seemed to have brightened up tremendously. She went on to explain that she had been attempting to be a hardass so that Oscar wouldn't steamroll all over her. The few times she had deigned to speak to him were a result of her being too unnerved by his silence and needed to say something. A fair assessment and action, if he were being honest. Oscar really didn't speak with NPCs all that often. But, now that they had handled that particular misunderstanding, Oscar was much more comfortable. So that only left one thing on the agenda. Figuring out what the hell they were doing here.

"So what is it we're out here looking for?"

"The Cave of Wonders," she replied

"The what now?"

Morgiana explained. The Cave of Wonders supposedly contained untold treasures. More Col than one person could spend in their lifetime. Indeed, more than a group of people could feasibly spend. Oscar was gobsmacked. He knew this quest chain was leading up to something, but he never imagined that it would be something so lucrative. It would certainly go a long to way aiding his efforts to revitalize the Town of Beginnings. With that much wealth concentrated in one spot, people would naturally gravitate towards it. They'd have stronger infrastructure, which would only make things easier for him and everyone else involved in the project. He loved doing his volunteer work, but at a certain point it all became too much for one man to handle.

And so Oscar began to conduct his search with renewed vigor. The idea of become so inundated with Col that he'd never need to worry about it again emboldened him. He and Morgiana searched high and low. But despite their best efforts, the Cave of Wonders had yet to reveal itself. Maybe it was just a myth. A legend. But Morgiana was an NPC. She wouldn't lead him on a wild goose chase for nothing would she? He surmised, however, that he would need to be the one to find it. Curse his lack of a Searching skill. But, like with everything that required him to find something, eventually he would stumble upon it. He was far too bull-headed to give up on the quest now. Not when his goal hung in the balance like this. Even so, it was kinda boring, searching for a cave like this. Perhaps a conversation with Morgiana would speed things along.

"So why do you want to find the Cave of Wonders Morgiana?"

If she had heard the question, the fiery-haired woman didn't show it. However, after a beat, she came to a stop. She began to speak, quietly. He had to strain to hear her over the ambient noise of the floor.

"I've grown up poor all my life. I've watched my friends starve to death or die trying to steal enough money to survive. I'm tired of living like that. I just want to take enough from the cave to take care of myself and my friends. A comfortable life, you know?"

Similar reasons to his own, it seemed. It was hard living as a self-sacrificing individual. With no ego involved, it was merely the reality of the situation. One couldn't really enjoy the small victories because every failure hits them that much harder. This was her chance to be done with that. And Oscar could respect that.

ULTRA LUCKY HOT DOG CONSUMED [+3 LD]

GLOVES OF CAERUS EQUIPPED [+3 LD]

He had finally tired of wandering the wastes and decided to take some measures to hopefully make finding the thing a bit easier. Of course, the only thing he could do was to make himself more lucky.

"Morgiana," he began. "Stop."

She stopped dead in her tracks and turned to face him. The moment he did, he was on the second bite of a particularly messy hot dog. There was just something about the hot dog though. Some kinda shine. It just seemed like it was made of luck. Morgiana tilted her head to the side as he scarfed down the remainder of the dog. Then, he removed his jacket and pulled on a pair of gloves. Like the dog, they seemed incredibly lucky. Like anyone wearing them couldn't possibly fail. He wiped the chili from his mouth and smiled.

"Alright, let's do this."

Oscar proceeded onward. With luck on his side, he strode with extreme confidence. There was no way he couldn't find it now! Of course, because he was so confident, he wasn't looking where he was going. And because of that, he tripped over a rock and began tumbling down a hill. Morgiana exclaimed and took off after him, but his momentum was too great. After what seemed like an eternity of rolling and rolling and rolling, he finally came to a stop. Discombobulated as he was, he laid there prone on his back, fighting the urge to vomit, as Morgiana caught up to him. She helped him sit up slowly and his eyes began to adjust. The world stopped spinning and off in the distance, Oscar saw the mouth of a cave. The cave itself was shaped like a tiger, with the mouth of the cave being the tiger's mouth. He threw both his hands up in victory. He had found it.

GLOVES OF CAERUS REMOVED [-3 LD]
LIBRARIUM OVERCOAT EQUIPPED [+3 EVA]

There was something suspicious about the area leading up to the cave entrance, however. It was wide open, sandy. There were stones jutting out of the earth that seemed like they could be used as tactical cover. It was a boss arena. Oscar wasn't about to go headfirst into a bossfight without first donning his coat again. He took off his gloves and stood up before throwing on the Librarium Overcoat that Bahr had crafted so long ago. With his Evasion stat boosted again, he was ready to get to fightin'. The moment he stepped foot in the arena, a massive Scorpion extracted itself from the earth. Now they were onto the boss battle portion of the evening. He wondered that if some thieves would show up the moment he dealt the final blow to the Cave Guardian. Oh well, no sense worrying about that nonsense right now. He had work to do.

Quick as a flash, Oscar rushed in with Chaos Eater at the ready. He activated his Screw Dimension Sword Art. Chaos Eater bit into the creature's hide, green blood splashing on him. It burned something fierce. This thing had caustic blood, it seemed. But, as the green slime oozed from the wound, Oscar noticed that a bleed proc had been applied to the creature. More damage was always nice. Morgiana seemed to be shocked by the scorpion's sudden appearance and as such completely whiffed her attack. Then it was the Guardian's turn. It whipped its tail about, deftly embedding its stinger into Oscar and Morgiana in quick succession. Oscar saw two Envenom debuffs appear on his bar as his health bar took a hefty chunk. Despite that, the creature didn't seem to have dealt a large amount of damage. Which was cool because Oscar hadn't been looking for a difficult encounter.

Oscar rallied himself and launched another Screw Dimension Sword Art. Another crit resulted in one of the Envenom Debuffs being refreshed. Not a bad situation considering that it also refreshed his own Bleed effect. Then, Morgiana rushed in. She slammed her fist into the creature's carapace with a sickening crunch. It recoiled in pain and covered its head with its claws. Comparatively speaking, Morgiana's attack had not done much in the away of damage. It did, however, stun the beast. This would prevent it from doing any sort of attacks this round and give them both some much needed momentum to finally fell the creature. Once that was done, the treasures within the Cave of Wonders would be theirs for the taking. That thought seemed to embolden both of them because despite fighting an actual, literal giant scorpion, they weren't running away like anyone with any sense would do.

Even though the creature was stunned, burning, and bleeding, Oscar somehow managed to his follow-up attack. A real bummer too because after he saw just how much damage Morgiana dealt with her followup, he quickly realized that had his attack landed, the scorpion would be dead right now. But, because he missed, he and Morgiana fell victim to yet another round of stings. Oscar wasn't quite as bummed about that as he thought he would be. Yeah, it hurt and he was poisoned in two different ways, but honestly this thing was about to die. The thought of the Cave kept him going. All it wound up being was another disappoint boss much like the Manticore had been. What was it with this quest and just not providing engaging boss fights. I mean, he wasn't even remotely focused on the fight right now, more like the cave behind the fight.
