Material Gathering Failed!

LD = 14 ID#=136145

With her new armor in tow, the knight decided to journey off for herself and try her hand at some combat and also find time to harvest some materials, since she decided she would work on a craft while leveling up. Most players seemed to do so and she could make herself nifty items and not to mention sell them to make extra cash.

The quest description mentioned a place where she can find materials easily. It wouldn’t be long until she found herself at the garden in the grasslands. The entrance to the Town of Beginnings was rather close, so if she needed to make a hasty retreat to safety it was but a light run away. If she got into danger, however, the new gear should be enough to keep her alive. That being said, she began looking around for useful materials. The abundance of materials in this area shouldn’t make it difficult to find a good amount. But even then, she still has difficulty finding anything usable. She won’t let that stop her, though.

The grassy gardens housed tons of beautiful flowers cradled in bunches to make a rainbow within the green canvas. Nodes of materials could be seen around the garden, it just mattered if her low levels would allow her to successfully collect them. She approached a node and was going to make another attempt to loot it, but her attention was suddenly taken to a low growl behind her. An ambush?! The rabid dogs bit into her legs. Even though she couldn’t feel the pain of being bitten, the shock of the bite forced a wince on her face.

”Lost little puppies, hunh? Well, you’ve just made the worst, and last, mistake of your life!” A resounding growl howled from the usually cheery paladin as she removed her sword from its sheath and burrowed it into the spine of her enemy. The blow was enough to give her legs freedom for their toothy prison. The stabbed wolf dissipates completely right in front of her eyes, but she did not falter.

”I’m not scared to die now! I’m strong and I’ll continue to go stronger until I’m free from this prison!”

Yuki and her adversary stared each other down for some time. A low tone escaped the snarling wolf's clenched jaws. In the real world, the defenseless, easily skittish woman would have let her bladder go, tears streaming down her cheeks. However, in this world, she was powerful. A puny wolf with more bark than bite wouldn't scare her. She was the wolf now, biting into the sheep.

They rushed to each other simultaneously. The wolf tripped her up, stopping just before she brought her blade down over it and causing her to fall over. On the ground, it attempted to dig its sharp claws into her face, but even in her heavy armor, she was able to roll out of the way before it could hit her. She peeked at her own health bar, watching raise back to full instantly. She smiled at that. This wolf had absolutely no way to kill her no matter what it did.

As she peered at her health bar to ensure her safety, the wolf pressed its advantage, or at least what it mindlessly thought was its advantage. Its sharp teeth shined against the sun, with a bright gleam in Yuki's eyes before they sunk into her shin again. Her health bar ticked.. for one damage again. As she said this thing couldn't kill her if she wished it. Thorns procced for her and the wolf turned into nothing more than data bits. Yuki smiled and watched her health tick back up to 20. When she got back to the Town of Beginnings she should really get to the Blazing Typhoon again and thank Macradon for the amazing gear he put together for her.

As combat ended, she sighed to herself and couldn't believe what had just come over her. It was... Exhilarating to say the least! She had played video games like this before but never had she actually experienced anything that could compare to the feeling she just had fighting those wolves.

Finally containing her wild imagination, Yuki cooled down and looked around. Her original intention was to find crafting materials as she knew she wanted to take on a profession. Most likely, she would prefer to take the cooking role. She really enjoyed cooking food in place of her mothers, especially since she had planned to start living alone soon. Her bright smile changed quickly when to a quiet smile.

Her family - Mom, Dad, Aki... What happened to her body in the real world? She was just laying her bed with the Nervegear over her head. Yuki was something of night owl and she slept during the day. Maybe they thought she was sleeping with the helmet over her. For two years, though? No of course not. She felt like Mom would've ripped the thing off her head by now. They must have seen reports of the SAO players being trapped within the headset and didn't remove it. She knew that if the headset was removed, she would die. Which she wasn't dead so...

She shook her head and gave her cheek a light slap.

"Don't think like stupid! You're fine. Get stronger, work your way through this game and get the [censored] out." Her own voice reassured her. Trying to take her mind off it, she went back to mat hunting.

Shaking those depressing thoughts from her mind, the pinkette returned to looting the area for any usable materials. A node sticking between some flowers caught her eye. Apples lay across the ground, hopefully they would be usable. Most of the time she was finding nodes but it seems like only luck would deem them usable. Sometimes you could loot areas and find absolutely nothing in the nodes.  She clicked on the prompt that asked if she wanted to retrieve them, it loaded for a moment before sending them to inventory with a secondary message saying 'Materials collected! Placed in the bag!'. She checked her inventory to be sure that they, in fact, did arrive safely in her inventory. Thankfully, they were there, along with the materials she had gained from the wolves.

She painted another happy smile across her face, satisfied with her progress so far. Although, she wasn't finished searching yet. A few materials would be nice. She wanted to be prepared as possible for crafting when she unlocked it.

It didn't take the girl very long to find a second node of materials. They were stashed away off to the side, one wouldn't really notice them if they didn't pay attention. Yuki's keen eyes let her notice them, thankfully. She approached the materials, accepted the prompt, and waited to see if the materials would be hers. Another happy chime and the materials were now hers. Her luck just continued to increase! That makes six materials she had gained already and, just as before,  she wasn't ready to quit, especially when she was on such a lucky streak! She would continue to look for more materials until she was tired or she until was getting too unlucky with the rng involved in collecting that she was getting absolutely nothing.

Stepping away from the collected node, she continued to search for more materials. Soon she would be rich with materials and on her way to being a grandmaster cook that everyone wanted to make food for them. The thought of that made her perk with glee!

Her luck continued! More nodes could be seen near the shrubs on the outer side of the garden. She leaned over and attempted to pick the node clean of the materials. Success! The node gave her another set of materials. She had thought at first that material drops weren't very common, but at this point she had successfully gathered three in row. Maybe it wasn't going to be that difficult after all.

She looked around for more nodes to pick from. She was sure she wasn't going to get luck enough to collect more materials for the fourth time in a row, but she would find out soon enough when she could find another material node. The seemed to be pretty scarce now that she had picked some up, perhaps she could just wait for them to respawn, or that was what you were supposed to? Not very sure, her knowledge of MMO video games was rather scarce at the moment so it'll probably take some time to learn how everything was supposed to be done.

Her luck had run dry pretty quickly, though. The next node she attempted to loot gave her absolutely nothing in return. As to be expected, luck doesn't last forever obviously. She sighed to herself and stood back up from the crouching position she had taken.

"Looks like I'm doing fine so far. At this pace should find several useful materials before I head back, then I can start the quest for getting my profession." The pinkette mumbled to herself. It was then that her ears perked up to the sound behind her. More rabid growls, from more than just one entity. Several wolves were behind her. Two of them were much larger than the others. They must have been the pack leaders.

"How cute." She giggled to herself. "Unfortunately for you, you've just walked into the bear's den" Yuki grinned pulling her sword out from her sheathe. The blade gleamed against the bright afternoon sun in all its glory. The grey wolves approached...

All the wolves charged her simultaneously, crashing into each other and causing each other to miss their target. Only one was able to claw her and the thorns taught it it's less for being so stupid to mindlessly attack her. Yuki took her chance and slashed directly though the Alpha wolf. Unfortunately her weapon damage was just awful without her thorns procing. She watched the health bar of the Alpha wolf tick for nearly no more than 10% of the enemies HP. Her health only dropped by a single point. She was too strong for this area with this gear, it was kind of upsetting to be frank. It felt like cheating.

She took a step back to get her bearing and watch the wolves start to surround her in a circle, hoping to get some sort of advantage against the brawny little Japanese tank of a girl. She took an aggressive stance, ready for their next storm of attacks.

The wolves all came at them at once. Even standing mostly still, most of them still actually missed her. One had hit her, and even though it did tons of damage compared to the other wolves, still only dealing a single point of damage to the pink paladin. Yuki sighed as thorns didn't proc from it either, thanks critical attacks. Either mobs continued to miss her, or they would just crit her and not take damage from her thorns. It was unfortunate, but she was sure that she would be dealing with this situation rather often.

She reached in and slashed the same wolf she had hit the one she had hit last time. It whimpered to the damage Yuki provided, even if it was literally less than 10% of the things maximum HP. Nevertheless, she readied herself for the next swarm of attacks. She watched all the wolves carefully as the circled her. This time maybe they would actually hit her.

Another round of wolves slashing and biting ai-. Or maybe not. Most of them did actually hit her, she anticipated for their HP to drop, and yet again they continued hit her with critical strikes. How often did critical attacks hit?! It was frustrating to see her main form of damage was so unreliable, but it was all she had to work with for the moment. Therefore, she had to manage with the enemies just hitting her and not hitting critical attacks. She stabbed her sword into the  wolf again as it approached, stupid mindless dogs. She figured when they came in again, she should just stand still. They can't miss an immobile target... right? Right?!

"What the heck are you idiots doing? Hit me already! It's not hard, you're like three times fast than me!" She yelled at them, even if they couldn't understand what she was saying. She was still aggravated with this stupid mobs though, and she needed to let of some steam.

Her tactic of just standing still actually did work, she was glad the wolves were competent enough to hit a target as long it was standing still. She watched this time as most of their health bars dropped significantly to her thorns damage. It was pretty insane that her getting hit could do more damage then her actually hitting someone instead. It was pretty low effort and made damaging multiple enemies much easier. She wondered what a fight like this would be like with out her thorns and shuddered. Four damage per swing against enemies this strong? Maybe it wasn't so unfair to have an ability like thorns.

She took another slash at the same wolf she's been attacking since this combat started. Even though it had yet to proc her thorns, she was slowly whittling it down with sword. It's health bar was closely approaching half. If all the wolves would just hit without the criticals, she would have already ended this combat by now.

The rabid canines unleashed their flurry of attacks once more. You'd figure by now that they were outclassed and the system would have them retreat. Though, to be fair, these wolves were probably a much higher level than her, and she would die to them instantly without the armor on. So maybe the system didn't think she was capable of finishing the encounter alive and just attempted to murder her.

Her sword raised once more, she swung into the enemy mobs hoping to prick them down a little more. A good swing slashed the same wolf, hitting for another minuscule amount of damage. She watched all the damage tick down between all the health bars and one of the wolves actually dissipating into nothing. It was absolutely reassuring to see one of these stupid wolves meet their end, and soon they all would. She grinned at that: Finally progress was being made!

Yuki's grip on her shiny white blade tightened, she lunged forward towards the same wolf again. A huge slash gashed the wolves belly ticking it health down even more. She was glad in the fact that she had yet to miss a single time during this combat sequence. A small amount of damage was much better than no damage at all. The four points deducted from the wolves HP. She awaited the retaliation of the pack. Their crazed attacks met nothing but air. Again, annoy that the only way she was capable of killing these things were if they hit her without a critical attack.

She readied her sword again for the next attack, eyeing the wolves, trying to take this a little more seriously. There could be moments where she was grasping for life in this game and she would need to stay calm, cool and collected with everything she does. Even if it was a game, it was actually life or death.

Putting on her serious face, the paladin growled and took her sword underhanded, slamming it into the enemy wolf hard enough for it to explode back into binary. She grinned, most of the damage she had done to that wolf was without thorns. At least she didn't rely on it entirely, or at least it felt that way. Her thoughts were interrupted by another heavy bite. One of the wolves had managed to hit her with another critical and the other one missed her entirely while she was standing still. The AI was really weird for the mobs. More crits than normal attacks and so many misses for no reason. I guess random outcome is factored into everything and Yuki was just on the ass-end of luck.

Two wolves down and two to go. If only they would just hit her already. It would save a lot of time if they would just do that. Thorns was great with its damage, if only it was more reliable to get to activate.

Not ready to surrender to the infinite battle with these stupid rabid puppies, Yuki readjusted her grip on her sword and jabbed it as hard as possible into the other wolf's rib cage. Another critical for her, but her meager damage still proved to do next to nothing to the enemy health bar. The wolf didn't approve of having its hit points taken away, so it decided Yuki's wrist looked rather yummy and would look much tastier if there wasn't a sword in her hand. The critical mark played over the health bar, again, so thorns did absolutely nothing to the wolf. Thankfully the second wolf took a slash at her and hit with no critical. It dissipated into nothing and only one wolf remained. If she had to whittle down one hit point at a time, she would glad do so. She just wanted this combat to end so she could head back home already.

Whittle it down she would, she continued her flurry on the wolf, a wondrous assault of white jabbing at the canines throat. It was careful, dodging her attacks, but sooner or later it would connect and its health would be deducted for it's mistake. As it attempted to latch on to Yuki, it continued to miss its mark, and she was sure that come the next time it made contact with her it would get a critical so she wasn't relying on that anymore she just focused on landing her own hits. Her blade would be the end of this pack of wolves if it meant the death of her. Well, not really, since she likely couldn't die to any AI type enemy on this entire floor she wasn't really scared of dying anymore. If only she had started all this sooner. She could have gotten the frontlines further in their crusade, uh, maybe.

Yuki took another slash at the reeling wolf. It was so close to dying, so close to the freedom of being out of combat with these stupid mobs she could just taste it. Her blade met the wolf's side, ticking it down for a slight more of its green health bar. It would only take two more hits for her at most to finish the stupid thing off. Thankfully, she wouldn't have to wait that long. The wolf's digital-iron jaw latched on to her shin. She expected to see the critical symbol float over its damage, but her luck had finally flipped. Her thorns procced and the beast fell over, finally dead to her assault. She let out a relieved sigh.

"Thank god they're finally dead! I'm going to need to find a friend who can deal more damage than me." She muttered to herself and started collecting the loot from the wolves in her inventory.

The pink paladin sheathed her shiny, golden trimmed sword and put her shield in its holster on her back. She was glad that messy fight of combat was finally over. She hoped that she would be able to succeed in combat later in the game. The mobs had dropped several items of for her to have appraised and tons of col to buy the appraisal. She couldn't wait to see what she got out of these items, she found the spear to be rather cool. She might try it out over her sword to see what she preferred.

Now that combat was over, she could loot the node she spied just off to the side. After this, she would be heading back to the safe zone, however. She reached down and attempted to loot the node. Unfortunately, her luck wasn't as good as her monster drop was. The prompt said there was nothing useful here. Oh well, she had found enough to satisfy herself.
