The Easter event was in full swing. Oscar had taken one look into the Egg Boys' shop and knew he had to get to work on getting him some eggs. He knew just where to go to make it happen. There was a certain spot in Floor 21 with a nearby lake. There were spiders there and Oscar could fill his time waiting for his energy to refill by fishing. It would be a good day. The last time he had actually done any fishing was when he fished up that boss back on Floor 1. But, given that this particular lake had special properties that prevented it from being able to spawn hostile mobs, he was good to go. Before he left his house, Oscar made sure that he was buffed up. He even took the time to activate one of his new statues for some extra damage. With his prep work done, it was off to Floor 21.

It was rough going trying to avoid all of the giant spiders on his way to his chosen farming location. But, somehow, he managed to pull it off. The moment the lake was in sight, though, it was off to the races. Giant spiders came skittering out of the crevices in the walls, laser focused on the intruder to their space. Quick as a flash, Tesseleth's Fury was in hand and Oscar was charging up an Explode Catapult to lay down some early cleave against the buggers. Beginning his attack with a quick spin of his weapon, Oscar waited until they were in range and let fly a explosive AoE attack. The spiders scattered before him like chaff in the wind. Because they had been knocked away, any hope they had of landing a lucky critical against Oscar was dashed against the stones that surrounded them. Oscar was leery about being overconfident, though.

Just because the fight had started out with a beautiful Four-Mob cleave didn't mean that it was going to be easy. As the spiders rallied and surrounded Oscar, he let fly another cleave attack. He had hoped that he would be able to hit all four of them again. Of course, hoping and doing were two completely different things. One way or another, two of the spiders escaped his attack unscathed. He didn't know if it was because of poor aim if it was due to their being too elusive to touch. Either way, the fight wasn't going according to plan. These mobs were actually a touch stronger than anything he had intended on fighting. True, the rewards from killing them would be massive, but it definitely wasn't worth the time spent if he couldn't manage to land a clean hit on them. He really needed to focus up if he wanted to get this done with any speed.

Something was definitely off with his aim today. After another Explode Catapult, two of the spiders had skittered away from his attack. They leaped and lashed at him, hoping to deal some damage to the axe-wielding chef. Thankfully, he was even more evasive than they seemed to be. One of the spiders died from his attack, which provided him with the opportunity to loot the corpse. Oscar wasn't interested in any of the unidentified nonsense so that was immediately trashed. He did however, manage to score his first set of Eggs and some very-much-needed Col. There was even a single material tacked on, almost as a bonus. Given that this seemed to be his only method of scoring Tier 3 Materials, Oscar didn't know whether to be happier about the eggs or about the single material he'd obtained. Both in equal measure seemed most fair.

Slaying enemies one at a time rather defeated the purpose of wielding an AoE weapon. But apparently, that was what this fight had become. At least, this time, he was able to land a full cleave on all of them. One of the spiders managed to land a hit, but honestly, Oscar was perfectly fine with that trade. He had plenty of methods of regenerating health. He didn't really have any reliable means of restoring energy though. His bar was almost empty. Thankfully, given that one of the spiders had died, he wouldn't be losing so much of it every attack. He had at least two more attacks in him before he would be completely out of energy. Given their current health totals, however, he wouldn't need more than one more. This, of course, was assuming that he hit. But he couldn't really afford to dwell on such things. He had to hope that whatever issue existed with his aim had been worked out.

One final attack and Oscar had managed to bring both of the remaining spiders down. So much the better. Looking at his remaining energy values, he definitely didn't have another Explode Catapult in him. If they both had managed to hang on, he would have been in a world of trouble. Before he had launched his attack, a single tick of Battle Healing activated, restoring almost half of the health that he had lost from the spider's attack. He put Tesseleth's Fury away and collected his loot. Without anything impeding him from reaching the lake, Oscar seized the momentum and hit the shore line. He was so excited to be able to fish again. And without having to worry about a boss or another monster appearing, he would be able to fish with impunity while his Energy recovered. Despite the rocky start, he could see the light at the end of the tunnel on this grind.

Without hesitation, Oscar cast out his line. He sat down on a somewhat flat rock as he watched the bobber dip up and down upon as the surface of the water rippled outward from where his hook sank into the depths. It was at this moment he began to wonder just how much sense fishing for Easter Eggs made. How would they even, reasonably, get on his hook? Some questions, it seemed just didn't have good answers. That being said, it was rather amusing imagining the Easter Bunny in full SCUBA gear swimming around and popping eggs onto fishermen's hooks. He had to stifle a laugh, mostly on reflex. Somehow he doubted, as sophisticated of a game as Sword Art Online was, that the fish had noise detectors. Eventually, he felt a tug on his line. He gave the rod a mighty pull and his catch quickly cleared the water. Some eggs and materials were added to his inventory. Nice.

Oscar cast his line out again. As he waited for the tug on his line, he decided to look around. Normally, he was always so busy fighting on this floor that he never really bothered to take in the sights. Now, while he had time to wait for the fish to bite, he had to say that the area was rather beautiful. Bio-luminescent flora lined the walls, casting shades of blue and green over the landscape. The deep dark lake before him reflected this light. It almost looked like a starry night had descended upon the black stillness of the water. It was altogether awe-inspiring. Much to his chagrin, Oscar didn't really get enough time to take in the sights before he felt another tug on his line. He hauled in his catch, noting happily that his inventory had been filled with even more eggs than before. Perhaps this grind wouldn't take as long as he had originally thought.

His energy was full yet again. Therefore, it was time to get back on the grind. Oscar didn't exactly find himself in much need for Unidentifieds. Truth be told, he didn't even really need the Col. But where the former was clutter in his inventory that would likely turn out to be garbage, one was points. And Oscar - despite not being much of a gamer until now - really loved seeing his points go up. So, Oscar decided to hunt down some spiders - hopefully weaker than the last batch. Eventually, he came upon a group of four. Unlike the last group, they didn't immediately rush him. This allowed Oscar to get the drop on the creatures. His Explode Catapult cleaved through three of them, reducing them to under half health in a single blow. Unfortunately, he didn't manage to clip number four. It was that same spider that also managed to deliver a nasty smack to his shin. If anything surprised him, it was how much damage a shin slap actually did to him.

The spider had done pitiful damage. A single tick of Battle Healing had him almost back up to full HP. In response, Oscar launched another Explode Catapult. Again, he missed one of them. Whatever had been up with his aim before was still rearing its ugly head. Somehow he doubted that even if he had used Concentration that it would have made much of a difference. But, thankfully, two of the spiders were slain by this attack. Oscar made a point of dodging the incoming shin slaps before he grabbed his loot. Only one of the spiders had actually dropped Eggs. A bummer, but he still had two more to kill in this encounter and more still to fight afterwards. He couldn't let himself get all upset because he didn't get an egg from every monster he slayed or every time he tried to fish. More often than not, he would actually wind up getting something.

Battle Healing restored Oscar to full HP as he fired off another Explode Catapult. He swung his axe in wide arcs in both directions, slicing through the spiders like a hot knife through butter. Then, he punctuated the attack with a final downward slam that fractured the ground, sending sharp stones exploding outwards like shrapnel. The stones dug into the spiders, puncturing holes in their forms. The spiders then quickly shattered like glass, leaving only two sparkling remnants where they once stood. Upon interacting with these shining spots, Oscar obtained his well-earned loot. With his second round of combat complete, Oscar headed back to the shoreline. Back to the stone he had sat on a few moments prior. Honestly, he was well-equipped to stay here indefinitely. What exactly did he want to do, though? Did he want to go back home for a while or stick it out until he got everything he needed?

While he mulled that thought over, Oscar cast out his line. There were certain benefits to sticking around. For starters, he wouldn't use up nearly as many consumables as he would with multiple trips. But then again, there was the issue of him growing bored with the grind and not finishing. This was a marathon and not a sprint, after all. By his reckoning, he needed 350 eggs to acquire all of the good rewards. With the current rates, that was quite a lot of eggs. Would he be able to find the time to come back before the event ended? Of course he would. It wasn't like he didn't have an overabundance of spare time anyway. He'd reached a point where grinding for grinding's sake wasn't really worth it. At seven SP per level up, he would need to grind for hours just to get one a tiny boost in his stats. Oscar pulled in his catch, surprised to have obtained a whopping eight eggs this time!

He cast his line out again. The thing he loved most about fishing was that it gave one plenty of time alone with your thoughts. It was therapeutic. Your hands were occupied, so you couldn't distract yourself. It was just you, your mind, and the fish. Sometimes, the mind takes one to dark places. But braving the darkness oftentimes resulted in one winding up much stronger for it. Right now, the big thing on Oscar's mind was what to do about Tyson. The young man hadn't done much in the way of messing with him or his friends since he'd sent his goons to ransack Oscar's shop. But that was only more concerning. Oscar really didn't know how to get a read on the kid anymore. If he couldn't get a read, he couldn't predict his next move. He was at a particular disadvantage. He decided to put a pin in that while he reeled in his catch. Six eggs this time.

Oscar would have to make a decision on whether to dip early soon. Not that he could see it, but he had a feeling the sun was beginning to set. He hated walking home in the dark. He had time to burn his energy bar again, only this time he was going to try and chain combat to get double his kill count. He didn't need to make a decision now. He didn't even really need to think about it. Which was good considering that in a death game it was often a good idea to not be distracted when you're fighting things. Oscar found another small next of spiders and cleaved through them with Explode Catapult. He even managed to get a Fallen proc on one of them, knocking in straight into the red with a single blow. The rest were still firmly below half health, meaning his next attack would dispatch them if they managed to hit. Oscar just had to hope that his missing streak was over.

So either his missing streak was over or he managed to actually get lucky and finish a group off in two cycles for once. Honestly, he was beginning to worry about his own ability to land a clean hit. Had Cordelia's rotten luck rubbed off on him. It would be just desserts if it had. He hadn't exactly been gentle with his ribbing of her missing during their adventure doing Scents of the Wild. What goes around comes around, it seems. With the first round of Spiders slain, Oscar quickly gathered his loot and set about finding the next set. He had enough of a buffer in his energy bar that he could reasonably afford to three cycle the next group if it came to that. He really hoped that it wouldn't come to that though. He really didn't like skating by on the skin of his teeth, but he had, perhaps foolishly, decided that getting rid of his only way of recovering energy was a good idea.

Oscar found another nest of spiders in short order. Rather than waste time, he decided to leap right into the thick of things. A possibly ill-advised decision when you consider the fact that he managed to miss one of the spiders with his Explode Catapult. That alone guaranteed that this would be a three cycle bout at least. This was the exact thing that Oscar had been hoping wouldn't happen. But, now that he was in it, the only thing he could really do was play through. He didn't really see much point in bellyaching about it. Sometimes you just missed your attacks, for some odd reason. Whether it was luck of the draw or a creature being a touch too fast, you couldn't guarantee that you would hit 100 percent of the time. Oscar supposed that was what kept things interesting and fresh. But damn wasn't it a real inconvenience.

Thankfully, his second Explode Catapult resulted in all of the spiders being hit. Three were even killed outright by his AoE. That just left a lone spider for Oscar to contend with. It lashed out at him but Oscar skated by the attack with ease. This gave Oscar the opening he need to grab his loot and get ready for the next round. Bad news was he was still stuck in this infernal fight. Good news was that he had decided he wanted to knock this grind out all at once. Perhaps he would just focus on fishing for a while. It seemed to have better results when it came to gathering eggs. Plus, he honestly really couldn't stand fighting these spiders for too much longer. Maybe he could turn this into a fishing trip with combat on the side instead of a combat trip with fishing on the side. That honestly sounded like and amazing idea.

Oscar had felled the final spider. He collected his loot and decided to head back for the lake. He hadn't really noticed it, but in his hunt for the spiders, he'd actually wandered quite a ways away from the shore. At least, he'd wandered quite a ways away from his rock. He really liked that rock. It was almost like a naturally-occurring chair. It was the perfect place to sit and fish. He wondered if he could craft a vanity fishing chair to carry around with him. He didn't see why he couldn't but until he got the time to chase that, the rock would have to do. He wandered around for a while until he finally found something familiar. Once he had, it was much easier to find the rock and sit down upon it. He set Tesseleth's Fury down beside him and stretched out. He could do with a little rest and relaxation right about now. Something to ease the frustration.

He cast out his line. What was the last thing he was thinking about? Ah, right. Tyson. He was definitely caught on the back foot. He honestly hadn't really had to play this game since he lived on the streets himself. Preparing for attack. Trying to shore up your defenses. In a city wrought with drugs, gangs, and violence, it was in your best effort to stick two to three steps ahead of everyone. And, for now, Tyson was an indeterminate amount of steps ahead of him. The first attacks had just been greetings. "Hey Oscar, I'm coming for you" sort of situation. If he could manage to neutralize Tyson's advantage, then he could force him out into a fair fight. But how to go about it? A few things came to mind but none of them were particularly savory. Ultimately, he couldn't afford to play Tyson's game. He had to rope the kid into his own machinations.

Problem was, Oscar hadn't machinated in almost 20 years. In his teens, he had no problem playing people like fiddles. It was easier to get what you wanted through manipulation than it was to get it by force. But now, Oscar'd seen the light. He didn't think of people as disposable resources anymore. Which, again, was yet another advantage Tyson had over him. It's difficult for a good man to contest an evil one. Even moreso when that good man didn't think the evil one was actually evil. He was alone. He had been seemingly abandoned. Oscar had to get through to him. But first he needed to beat him. And therein lied the rub. A tug on his line pulled him out of his reverie. Oscar reeled in his catch. It was heavier than usual. A treasure chest fell to the ground with a loud thunk, alongside 8 Eggs.
