  • Bialas Statue: A small statue [Uncommon Item] that can be placed in a home, proving that you defeated the Shocking Taneuma. When used, it gives +1 Taunt buff for a thread. When touched, it can give off the smell of the forests surrounding the area. The sweet smell of fresh sap coming from maple trees is strong and gives a fragrant aroma. The sound of a nearby lake can be heard, a fish can also be heard jumping to the surface and landing back down into the water with a small splash every few moments, and the distant sounds of birds can be heard as well. It can also be taken to group gathering to give an atmosphere.

Requirements:

  • Must have defeated the previous 5 bosses and received their Statues
  • Must travel to the lake (3+ Posts)
  • Defeat «Taneuma»
  • At least 1 page of RP content (20+ Posts).

Summary:

Deep within the woods of the 22nd Floor, a stallion, a horse made of pure thunder and lightning has been spotted galloping and completely destroying trees, leaving a devastating trail of ash and destruction in its wake. The creature keeps destroying crops and trails, making it hard to eat and traverse between towns without the fear of being attacked. Players have been asked to defeat the creature to make it safe for other players and NPC's, and see that the creature wouldn't be anywhere near water

In the deep forest of the twenty second floor, Shield was crouched low, scanning the darkness around him for signs of the quarry for the outing. "Last stop on the journey, Beat," he said, stating the obvious, more out of relief than anything. "Not that I dislike your company, but these marathon quests can be grating after a while. Between having to balance them, run my shop again, getting in decent loot grinding..." his hand tumbled in a slow circle to mime 'on and on' as his list would have continued to stretch had he chosen to continue to gripe. "So hopefully having some darkness will make a glowing, lightning stallion a little easier to spot." He held something out in his hand, which on its own just seemed to be an odd stone with little translucent inclusions. "Once we're in the thick of the fight, this will give us the light we need to keep up."

The trees were growing more dense the further they wandered, and the darkness pressed in around them. Every snap of a twig or swish of a limb as it returned to place after being bent back sounded like a trumpet in Shield's alert ears. Off to the right, there came the sound off trickling water. "Good... It's supposed to be near a lake. If that's the stream I think it is, then it means we're heading the right way."

Using Noxious Pendant Effect: +1 Blight 1 and Envenom (O) to Spear of Destiny

Beat smirked as he changed his equipment around, the noxious pendant appearing around his neck, "Well, you keep do keep yourself pretty busy. Not saying you should stop grinding, but you need to take time to relax too." He chuckled as he knew how Shield felt about his lack of grinding at all. It was something Beat had been working himself up for, given that it was truly important to make sure they were prepared for event bosses and floor bosses. 

"You know, it's been a very long time since you and I sparred." He said, giving Shield an energetic look, "It has been too long since the unstoppable force and the Immovable Object clashed." He slammed his fist into his open palm as his mind raced back to their Crossreign days. He kept his ear open as his eyes strained against the darkness, following the noise from the stream, which was steadily increasing as the water flow became heavier. "I've found some benefit to training technique that you don't really get from sheer numbers. It's actually interesting."

"Well, you might find our next sparring session a little more frustrating than some of ours in the past," he said, giving a little shrug. "It may be a simple matter getting a little damage on me. The tricky part now... is keeping it there." He left hit thought at that. It was not a refusal. If anything, he knew Beat would take it as a challenge and be all the more eager to make him eat those words. That would have to wait though. In the forest in the middle of the night while stalking prey was not the best time to settle a score.

Shield's eyes stayed forward, sweeping through the trunks of the trees that surrounded them. The light of the moon lit up the east side of each trunk, which made the forest from certain angles look like a pinstriped mess. It was impossible to say if their quarry was going to be bright enough to outshine the glow of the moon, but Shield at least hoped. The further they walked, the more the stream expanded, and before Shield knew it, they had found their way to the mouth where it opened up into a lake. There, on the other side, standing out brightly against a darkened far shore of the lake, was someone or something that seemed to be wreathed in light.

"I think we have our boss monster..."

Beat's eyes lit up as he stared across the lake. It was a beautiful creature to see. The arcing electricity and the way it galloped along the shoreline was nothing short of elegant. He drew he spear and the familiar red aura spiked up around him as he dashed in a straight line, across the water, towards the elemental. "Here we go! ORAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!" He yelled as his speed kicked up a small canyon of water along his path. Taneuma easily took noticed and reared up in protest as Beat closed in. 

"You're much bigger up close, but that's just fine!" He said as his feet touched the shoreline before catapulting him into the air, "Let's test those reflexes!" Beat's form blurred and shifted rapidly as his spear struck true, each strike of his sword art causing the body of the elemental to erupt in a crash of thunder, creating a stupendous cacophony of sound. 

"Needs work..." he said, licking his lips, satisfied at the chunk of health drained from the creature's health bar.

As Beat took off across the water, Shield took off, skirting the outside. Not having the system's speed boost from a quick sword art, and having a longer path to follow, this put him significantly behind Beat. He couldn't allow that to faze him though. Breathing in a full lungful of air,  he compressed his ribcage to expel it and focused all of his sound into one centralized blast of noise. "HEY, PRETTY PONY! HE'S NOT THE ONE WHO'S REALLY GONNA BE A CHALLENGE! I WAS JUST TELLING BEAT THAT NOT EVEN YOU CAN KEEP DAMAGE ON ME!"

This was a vast exaggeration of his words, but it was't like the monster would know that. In any case, it seemed to have worked. The  equestrian foe reared up and turned away from Beat, galloping at full steam at Shield. Just as it was nearly in range, it leaped, turning in midair so that its back feet landed closer, and hauled back, kicking at Shield with its strong legs and sharp hooves. Shield threw the Manticore Mask up as a barrier, and the hooves clanged uselessly off of the surface.

As thunder rang out from the clash between the horse's hooves and Shield's Manticore Mask, Beat was already moving into position for a second attack. Despite how much experience Beat, had it had always amazed him how stupid the hate system made enemies. Shield was a fairly unassailable target. One or two stings from his thorns would be enough to get that message across. Add to that, Beat's relentless assault and one would be forced to conclude that targeting Beat made the most sense.

"Hey dummy! Over here!" He shouted for flavor more than anything as he leaped into the air, reaching eye level with the elemental before unleashing his second volley of strikes. A second concert of thunder rang out as Beat's rapid combination hit home once again. Beat landed and quickly retreated back to Shield's side, ready for the next attack and resulting opening from the equine lightning elemental.

The clash between titans continued - the great stallion with its crackling mantle of electrical power against Shield and Beat, the two once rivals, now bringing their respective strengths to bear against the pinnacle foe of the string of quests. Taneuma reared up and lashed out with its fore hooves, their strikes ringing out across the the lake and echoing through the forests. It whipped around and sent another hind kick which Shield took on the chest. His feet sank deeper into the soft soil of the lake shore, but he did not give any ground.

Between the various flurries of hooves, Shield held out his sword arm, focusing on the tip of his blade where a familiar red orb began to form. The stallion let out a shrill whinny, sending sparks in all directions as it reared back its head. It butted its hard forehead at Shield. Raising the Manticore Mask, Shield met the attack with a strong arm that held the attack at bay. Taneuma dug its hooves in, pressing its head against the fierce faced shield.

"Beat, catch!" Shield called, swinging his blade and sending the red orb to his ally before pivoting out from under the pressure of the lightning beast. Taneuma, its strength no longer meeting with any resistance, kipped forward, nosing down into the ground and tumbling onto its side. Lightning flashed, and the foe floundered, struggling to get its legs back underneath it to stand.

"Nice move, Shield!" Beat shouted as the thunderous equine beast fell to the ground. He snatched the red orb out of the air and felt the familiar energizing feeling of the sharpness buff course through him. He was unsure if the buffs in the game actually produced those effects or if it was all in his mind, but he supposed the entire thing was in his mind, so it was all the same to him. A small red lining now surrounded him, indicating that his attacks were packing much more of a wallop than before. 

"Alright boy, time for the glue factory!" He said as he ran forward and once again riddled the horse's body with his sword art, the health bar finally dropping into the yellow. He smiled as he backed off, not wanting to be in the way when the creature stood back up, "He's close Shield, I might be able to finish it with two more!"

"Oh really?" Shield said, pacing around Taneuma at a wide berth. The stallion pawed its way back up onto its feet, finally recovering after the barrage of Beat's attack. "Well, I can try to soften him up a bit for you. Wonder if that might put him close to crit range..." The horse let off a loud crackle of lightning and he slapped the face of his shield with the flat of his blade in reply. The foe accepted his challenge, rearing up and charging Shield. Seeing the attack coming, Shield braced his off hand, preparing for impact. Taneuma hit and hit hard, jarring him through the grip of his shield. Quickly, he released the handle of his shield, sliding his hand past the edge as the Manticore Mask dangled by its strap on his arm. His now free hand grabbed a handful of mane and pulled hard, cranking the elemental by the top of his neck. At the same time, he shoved his blade upward through the creature's throat and out the back.

In a panic, Tanuema shook Shield loose freeing itself from his grip and pulling back off of his sword. It was nothing compared to the injuries Beat had left on it, but the horse now had one brand new glowing red wound where Shoeld had left his mark. "Not as much as I might have hoped. Oh well."

Beat chuckled as he watched shield's impressive maneuver. It was always a let down when an apparently lethal blow was mitigated by the math of the game. It was a necessary evil, but one that certainly stood out in a virtual reality game like SAO. "That may not have done a lot of damage, but it was cool looking. You're lucky the numbers are there to save you." He said, as he moved into position beside the elemental, his spear glowing menacingly. 

"Guess you would rather suffer!" He shouted, leaping into the air and unleashing his sword art into the back of the creature's head. Each strike rang out as a crash of thunder as the horse's head was forced lower and lower with each blow until it finally struck the ground. It seemed dazed for a moment before raising its head back up and roaring angrily.  "Alright Shield, one more should do it."

"In the end, everything that happens is numbers," Shield said, shrugging to Beat's words. "And even before we had invented the numbers, it didn't mean they didn't exist in some form. We just hadn't invented our way for describing how the things around us functioned." Taneuma was limping bad, but even with the beating it had been receiving, its eyes were still glued to Shield. "But you're right, Beat. A lot of the things regarding numbers in this game are pretty arbitrary. Particularly those surrounding enemy aggro."

Taneuma pawed at the soft lakeside earth, making grooves in the dirt as it lowered its head to charge. Shield readied his shield arm, knowing that the best chance Beat was going to get as a still target. It launched forward, the power in his hind legs and its flanks drove it forward. Rounding his shoulders and lowering his stance, Shield practically vanished behind Manticore Mask. Behind him, at the tip of his sword, he already began forming another globe of red energy. The clash came, the hard skull of the horse colliding with the defensive barrier and failing to make any further ground. "Before he recovers!" he called out, tossing the sharpening red light to Beat.

The elemental horse made trenches in the ground as he pushed with all its might again the Immovable Object to no avail. Shield stood his ground and would not be budged by such a creature. "Right!" Beat shouted as he ran forward, leaping into the air and striking from behind the creature's head once again. The thunderous collisions rang out as the final strike pierced through the horse's head, colliding with his partner's shield. He gave the man a wink before pushing of and landing softly on the lake shore as the final statue appeared before them. He walked over to the object and picked it up, "Mission complete, friend."

Beat stashed the final statue into his inventory before lifting his arms and putting his hands behind his head, "Maaaan! Where is the challenge though?" He said, exasperated, "I'm not saying I want to take a huge risk, but something that can make us make decisions would be nice."

Shield took hold of his own statue, examining it and shrugging. "We got off lucky," he said simply. "Sure, it was never going to beat us, but when this guy crits, he puts the hurt on you, and that kinda damage not only bypasses my defenses, but it outpaces my health regen." He banished the statue to his inventory before sliding to his stored equipment. Took out several consumables, holding them up to decide between them.

"Well, on the bright side, this is finally a boss that's on a good floor for finding decent loot," he said, giving Beat a little smirk. This is when he was in his element.While he was a tank out of necessity, he was a treasure hunter for fun, profit, and personal betterment. It wasn't something he and Beat did together often. He clapped his hands together and started walking at a little bit of a brisk pace, putting the battlefield behind them. "Do we want to go farm some mobs? I can also try to find us some hidden loot along the way back. If you've got any loot finding food, that might come in handy too, now that the finds actually matter."

Beat voice was one of boredom, but at the same time, he wasn't going to pass up easy boons. "I guess I'll take the free loot though."

It's still a game Kayaba, make it interesting sometimes

His hand flew through the air as he pressed a buttons on his interface. The pendant around his necklace disappeared and, in its place, a charm necklace appeared. He dismissed his interface and nodded to Shield, happy to get back to something that they had not done in quite some time, "It has indeed been a while since we did any farming. Monsters that can take a hit are far and few between in these quests. It will be a nice change of pace."

Loot mobs, Shield heard. He looked around, and on the slope of a nearby hill, he thought he caught a pair of large yellow eyes peering out from under a grove of nearby trees. "Done." He cupped his hands around his mouth and, for the first time that he could recall, let loose an actual deep-chested howl. From the trees, there cam a reply, and then another. Then even more replies from other places throughout the forest. Raising his shield, he prepared for their arrivals. "You know... this will be my first time squaring off with real loot-worthy mobs since capping out my level."

Just as he finished speaking, the first of the wolves came. As they emerged, they were each easily tall enough to look Shield straight in the face. They rushed in, biting at each of his limbs, one even managing to fasten its jaws around his neck. "You wanted loot mobs, so here they are," he managed to cough out to beat, glancing over unfazed. "It always feels uncomfortable to have teeth in your throat. Don't know if I'll ever get used to it."

Beat grinned widely as he watched the wolves sink their teeth into his friend. He watched Shield's health bar drop by a decent proportion and whistled as he activated his charge skill, "Oh wow. They hit hard too. Collectively anyway." With the red aura surrounding him, his charged forward, his speed greatly enhanced. He drew his spear and made a horizontal slash in front of him, creating a wide, pale yellow crescent moon shaped wave of energy that took on the charge aura surrounding Beat and smashed in to Shield and the attacking wolves. 

"Take that!" He yelled as the four wolves yelped and released the party's tank. They gave Beat a nasty glare before returning their attention to Shield. "Been a while since I used that one. It's not as impressive, but it is pretty to watch." he said, moving to position outside of the group of wolves, waiting for his next opening to attack.

The arc of light cut through the wolves and scattered them, sending them bounding and yipping around the clearing. One at a time, they turned and remembered their adversary. They came one by one, seeking to sink their teeth into Shield once again. Three of them managed it. One, however, Shield managed to watch its approach, keeping an eye on its feet and where its eyes were aiming. He held out the Manticore Mask and repelled the attack altogether. Still, his health had taken a definite hit. "Don't worry," Shield said. "My health is more resilient than most." The green bar that surrounded him began to refill at a steady pace.

"Oh, Lilith! A little help, please!" he called out. From the depths of his armor, a little colorful serpent snaked her way up his neck, baring her fangs and taking a bite. His health shot up again. Even the bites from the wolves did not leave him as low as they had the first time. "You see that?" Shield called out to the wolves, mocking them. "A little falcon and a little snake have big friends who are gonna put you in your place! Show 'em, Horus!"

Almost as if on Shield's command, Horus screeched loudly as he dove towards the wolf pack, causing them move back from the older player. While his familiar held their gaze, Beat moved into position in between all four of them, his enormous spear glowing with a familiar, pale yellow. "You know, you should work on your combat awareness. Letting your opponent fight where and how he wants is a beginner's mistake." he said calmly as he spun the air, making a circular slash around him and leaving the vibrating energy of his sword art behind. "Weeping Moon." At his words, the circle of energy began to expand rapidly, colliding with each wolf, knocking two of them into the water and the others off of their feet while it passed harmlessly through Shield.

"Well, these mobs are stronger. The AI still stinks though." He said as Horus shrieked in agreement, circling above them, waiting for his next chance to provide support.

"Definitely," Shield said, spitting out the side of his mouth, more out of muscle memory from times of being hit hard and tasting blood than out of necessity. "The last time I did this, I was soloing. They hit hard, but these guys hit harder and my defenses are still capped. This is a lot harder without proper DPS." He tightened the grip on his shield, taking a glance at Beat's energy bar and at the remaining health of the wolves. "You think you've got enough energy to take these down without being topped off? I think it's gonna be faster if we can both focus on offense here."

He lowered himself into a defensive stance, holding out the tip of his blade behind his shield. The wolves pulled back their jowls to bare their teeth, snarling at the stalwart target that had thus far vexed them. "Yeah, that's right, pooches. Go ahead and try to finish what you started, see how well that works out for you." They lunged forward, surging at him as a pack. Shield watched carefully, seeing which one was in the lead as they jockeyed for position. One of them leaped ahead from the back of the pack, its jaws open wide to strike. Dropping to one knee, Shield ducked below it, holding up his sword and slashing down the wolf's belly. The gash it opened up was considerable, spanning from under its snout all the way back to its tail.

The remaining wolves bit and clawed at Shield, taking little chunks out of his arms and leaving behind glowing red welts along his skin. His health continued to recover, each of the wounds visibly beginning to close.

"That was some decent damage! I think that one is going down this time!" Beat shouted as he charged his spear with another sword art. Beat charged forward, grabbing one of the wolves that was latched onto Shield and tossing it away. He immediately spun and unleashed his lunar sword art, the wave of energy catching the airborne wolf by the throat and tossing it backwards.

"That evens the odds a little bit I'd say." Beat said, noticing that one of the wolves had met its demise. The other wolves were now in the red, which meant they were one strike away from victory, "I should have enough to get through this fight. No problem!" His eyes scanned the three wolves that had been slow to get back onto their feet and now seemed reluctant to resume their attack. Beat grinned as he looked at each of them, "I can't say I blame you for being wary, but I think it's a little late for that don't you?"
