<<Bloodstained Land>>

Their next hunt was amidst the sandy wastes. Had it been a day dream the last time she'd arrived? NIGHT could've sworn she was out with Yuki, pummeling this boss to pieces with maybe a handful of other players. As her memory served her now, it was more like a story passed down to her, a tale that someone else had made, yet she still vividly remembered her imaginings at the time. Perhaps it hadn't happened at all.

It didn't stop her from guiding her party towards the foretold location, however. Just as in the rumor of rumors, it was barreling around the pit's walls at mach speed, looking like a spiky worn volley ball but with a lot more steel than fraying fabric. NIGHT waved her troupe over, peering at it from atop the depression, her feet nearly tiptoeing its edge. "One crystal, no buffs," she clarified, watching Yuki's movements. "It's mostly about the sword that should be able to take it down. The song should allow Crow to hit it easier. Any questions?"

Yuki looked down at the burrowing boss that they stalked. Standing around wasn't her style, especially now, but she was ready for anything at this point. Observing the bosses patterns was interesting enough, it would help her learn how to fight it, at least. It was fast for sure. Though that was fine, Yuki had gotten much faster herself.

"Tch, this guy is a big spiny pushover." Yuki crossed her arms and grinned at the soon to be battlefield below. "I bet he'll be lucky to survive more than one round of attacks with us three. Night packs damage, Crow packs damage and I stand there and let it suffer at trying to hit me. It's too easy."

Confidence was getting to the girl a bit, but to be fair, she was at the point where being a bit cocky can come in handy, as long as she didn't let it lose sight of what was happening around her.

Crozeph's first question was "are you sure I can hit it?" he uttered as if he was gonna fail already. While he had no problems with damage dealing, he wasn't putting much faith in his accuracy. Even with his basic knowledge of kendo, he was an ass when it comes to striking. Now Night and Yuki sounded like he had a high chance of hitting it. "I think Night would do a better job on hitting, I'll just add an extra bump on damage," he told them. As much as he wanted to be helpful, there always comes a moment where he'll mess things up like his luck suddenly dips just when he needed it.

He opened his stats and checked if he had the right equipment for this quest. "I can do this" he told himself, if Yuki will tank then he will have less problems with it hitting him. Crozeph took a deep breath and calmed himself "it's just a quest, there's no highscore to meet" he walked closer to Yuki and pat her in the head "now then, let's get this started."

“The extra boost on damage is more than welcome, actually,” NIGHT clarified, wary of the man’s self-defeatism. It irked her, just a tad. If Crow’s confidence in his ability to fight was wavering, it bothered her just how much he could protect, let alone do for Yuki. She watched the man pull open his menus to review his status and items, and a part of her vaguely recalled the trade that they made once with regards to the life-mending marble.

Did he keep that on him at all times?

At the man’s motioning for them to begin, NIGHT nodded.

“Well, no time like the present.”

She turned around and took one step off the ledge. Suddenly, her world began to turn as she started to fall. Her trace had followed the slope of which the sand was pouring down on. One moment she was there – the next, she disappeared amidst the scatter of dust, no trace of her form left to be seen.

Night disappeared into the mist, again. A common build choice that worried some Yuki sometimes. However, she knew that it suited her build, so she wouldn't try associate the ability with thievery in Night's case. Yuki looked at Crozeph and grinned to the boy. She was sure he would do something to help them, whether or not he knew it. In fact, him being here made the paladin even more confident than ever. "Don't put yourself down. I love you. Let's go have some fun and then we can go home. I'll make you something nice and we can sleep." Hoping that her offer would persuade him to try his hardest, she nodded and jumped into the pit.

Collision with the ground resulted in an explosion of sand at her feet. The paladin had alerted the bosses attention, but that was good. "Come at me with everything you have!" She taunted, not even drawing her sword. Once the shark emerged from the sand, Yuki raised her shield hand and pummeled the enemy with the heftiest hit she could muster just as it landed an attack on her and like that, a fourth of its HP had vanished while Yuki's ticked back up to full instantly.

Crozeph could only reply with a smile, he was still worried but for now, he should deal with this monster in front of them. Yuki has stunned it so dealing all the slash of his sword art is already a breeze. Crozeph rained down attacks to Terra Firma and manage to deal enough damage to lower its health which might just be enough for Night to finish it off.

He tried to land more attacks but that would seem out of his character, he only attacks enough to keep himself in an advantage when it comes to health. He inched carefully away from the Terra Firma and had to ask a question to Yuki "is this creature really hard?" he asked them thinking how to deal more damage. He wasn't even sure if this was the same Sand Shark he fought that evolved or a different creature who was related to it. He raised his katana to guard, ready for another round of pouring damage to it

A static fracture seemed to sizzle in midair. NIGHT leapt out from the noise, her blade flaring to life with an insidious tar-like coating. In one terrifying slash downwards did she cut open the Terra Firma's defense -- it engraved a hatched gash upon her target, a blinding radiance sloughed over by rough goop and darkness in a matter of seconds.

Then the wound closed, and NIGHT landed on the sand. The boss seemed to shift as it tried to unsettle itself from its stasis, the shrew letting out a screeching wail. NIGHT let the soft gold underneath her feet sail her away from its immediate range, bumping herself back to her party once she'd regained her footing. "It's nearly dead," she noticed, before recalling the crystal still sitting in her pocket. And here she thought that perhaps she'd needed to use it. NIGHT shot the party a cheeky grin as she waved it about in her hand. "Well, so much for that idea. I could always use it somewhere else though."

Yuki was too busy wrestling with the enemy as it jumped out of the sand and tried to unleash it's fury on her once more. It's claw clanged on her armor, dealing the appropriate thorns damage from the attack onto her enemy. She threw it off her, drew her sword and slashed the target directly through it's chest with her most fierce sword art, but it hardly did anything, of course. Not that she cared about that anymore.

"Saving resources is important." The paladin finally says as she collects herself. She took a look behind her really quick to ensure that Crozeph was doing fine, checking his Health Points. She gives him a smile, even mid combat. Hopefully he was alright. He had gotten antsy since they really started to discuss marriage and she was worried that she would do something awful. "Crow! You can finish it off! Show him that he isn't safe!"

Crozeph stood still as Yuki fought Terra Firma, his hand on his katana ready to strike once Yuki is out of range within his katana's reach. As soon as Yuki shouted at him to finish it off, he grabbed his katana quickly and slashed from a distance. The freeze effect of the katana was triggered again and his draw strike created some kind of an icicle that stabbed through the Terra Firma.

It was a good attack and his Iaijutsu has been improving with practice. He didn't know how far he has gotten with practice but with what he's doing now, he' improving little by little. A small progress but the results are fulfilling to watch. The draw strike was fast enough that his katana was back in its sheathe, he looked at Yuki and Night "so what do we do now?" he asked them.

Its explosion into crystals was a celebratory occasion. Too bad none of the players had plans for cheers lined up.

NIGHT shrugged at Crow's question, eyes darted over to Yuki to defer the query off to her. "We could go back to your place-- err..."

Her voice trailed off the moment she remembered that she was a third wheel. Well, um... this was awkward. In a panic she pulled up her menus just so she wouldn't have to make eye contact with any of her party members for the moment. "--Or we could find another boss mob to take out. You still up for another round of combat, Yuki? How's your experience looking like, Crow?"

--Because it wasn't as though NIGHT had much else to do on her days off, anyway. Unless getting into an argument with someone you lived with counted for something. Her eyes settled on another batch of mail that was just recently sent to her from her broker, and she slid over in between the two of them (reluctantly) so that each player could see her screen better.

"Anything on this list catch your attentions?"

@Zajcica

Yuki looked down the list of bosses. There were quite a few of them that she had yet to do, and several that the other's hadn't done as well. She didn't mind as long as she gained some experience though. One did catch her eye, the Lich King. She hadn't really heard of that one before. Maybe it was another one of those easy quests that she had missed out on. She was realizing just how many quests she had actually missed while making her climb up to level 50.

"Here" She pointed to the query. "I think this was a pretty easy looking boss. With the three of us, I'd be surprised if it lasts any longer than one round of attacks against us. Looks like free experience in my books." The paladin smiled and looked at Crow. "Hey, you did amazing! Great job taking him down with a single hit. You'll be really strong when you hit tier three!"

It seems like there was a line-up planned by the two or rather prepared by NIght and they both chose some to do. At this point, he didn't have to convince himself that him hindering Yuki from joining the frontlines backfired at him. It wasn't a bad thing either, the last time he was out long with a party was his swamp adventures with Baldur and Azide's camping trips. "I don't really mind which one you choose, I mean you two can practically take on everything." It was undeniable and also his ideal build is still not complete so he's still lacking a few things.

"I don't really know if I'm that strong on Tier 3, I don't specialize in dealing damage anymore," he said while scratching his head. "I do agree that it's a good experience, I kind of forgot the feeling of having a party doing quests so if we're doing another you can always count me in."

NIGHT tilted her head at the comment. She'd recalled Yuki mentioning that his was a supportive build rather than an offensive one, though as to what extent, the woman wasn't too certain herself. Surely this would mean that Crow had other variables that he'd check himself against to verify their own prowess, right? Just as Yuki had her mitigation, NIGHT had her damage...

-- Oh, right. The paladin could heal herself up effortlessly simply through Battle Healing alone. In that case, the pair would be less likely to see the man's healing capabilities at play.

"It's totally possible for you to focus on damage in the mean time," NIGHT added, still intrigued to look over his stats. "You can always just reallocate your points when you feel like you need them, can't you?" Her argument had been the same with the paladin, but now they had broken through their limiters. Her advice wasn't necessary for their current scenario now, not any more.

Still, she turned to Yuki with a nod, eyes scanning through the list once again. "That Lich King does sound pretty nice. I think someone mentioned it to me about the item it has once..."

The mention of items perked the paladin's ears. The biggest reason that they had done this quest in the first place was to get Yuki the unique drop that Terra Firma gave. The scale, it should have been given to player who dealt the killing blow. Her fuchsia coloured eyes trailed over to her better half and gave him a glowing, cute smile. "Crow! May I have the item that you should have got from the boss when it died? That item will be super important for the floor boss and help me keep up my tanking from beyond buffs!"

The item was definitely Crow's but she still couldn't help but ask. That item was really something special compared to other consumables since it stretched the amount of enhancement slots beyond what could be given. "Oh, and did you want to give that item to that person Night? Sure, this item was the only that I wanted really badly. Everything else was fair game."

Crozeph quickly took out the item and handed it to Yuki "oh yeah I was assuming this is what you're looking for in this quest" he told her. It was of no use for Crozeph, he wasn't a tank and he'd rather spend some spaces in his inventory for debuffs. The mention of the floor boss sent a wave of paranoia to him again. "Look Yuki, I'm gonna be honest with you, if my opinion is the only thing that matters I won't let you join the floor boss battle but I don't want to hold you back either. I wasn't there to help you be stronger, I'm thinking Night was..." he placed a finger on his lips as if he's trying to think of something "if you reach level 65 and up I won't stop you from joining the frontlines, at least I know it's safe to fight the floor boss on that level," he told her, a sad tone begins to creep in his voice. "We both know I have very slim chances of catching up with you and that's my fault and as much as I want to join you, I'd just be killing myself with extra steps"

He cleared his throat and tried to lighten up the mood. He looked at Night "I wasn't planning to heal entirely, my build is for buffs and debuffs which is hard because I had to change my gear and now I have to gather skill relevant to it, a work in progress but I'm getting there."

Link to post

"It drops for everyone involved in the fight. See?" NIGHT hovered her finger over the clause under the tiny hunt description, a little curious if the item would be of benefit to her tank. "You can hold onto your share; that sounds like fair game to me. I'll trade mine away, I think -- it should placate them for all the crafting requests I keep ushering their way..."

As she continued to hum, scrubbing through the list for more quests to head out on, she turned to Crow when he began speaking up about his build. An item user? Her eyes glinted at the idea, recalling how welcome the role had been especially in her JRPG parties in the past. "Your gear isn't entirely the focus of a support build of that caliber, I think. It's much easier if you familiarize yourself with the different consumables you can use and make."

Imagine that -- one moment she'd been trying to avoid using buffs and debuffs, the next she was preaching about their usability. NIGHT pulled out the crystal in her pocket, offering it to Crow with a grin. "Here. Try this out for yourself. See how that works. ...There's one for Yuki too, if you're going up against enemies that you're afraid of hitting her. Consumables are surprisingly versatile."

Yuki takes up the Terra Firma scale and inspects it. It was like a piece of candy to her, but it wasn't like she was going to be eating it or anything. Instead, she would be putting it away in her inventory.

"I won't let you join the floor boss battle" And there goes her good mood right out the window. She scowled at him and turned her head. He was genuinely concerned for her safety, and in honestly so was she. This isn't something that she really wanted to be talking about right now. Yuki took the performer crystal that Night had offered her and moved it to her inventory. The paladin folded her arms around her chest and pouted a bit.

"I will do what I want Crow. I get that you are concerned but this is my choice, not yours." The paladin said walking past the other two towards the teleporter of the floor.

Crozeph took the crystal from Night and nodded his head "thank you, I've been trying to get my hands on these and use them on mobs to see how it works, though I'd really prefer using consumables since they have no cooldown compared to skills, my only concern is that they don't last long" he knew about these items made by performer's while it was good to use as his debuff strategy, He was thinking of how to maximize the use of the recording crystals. "actually even if I try to be support, people who knew me would prefer me to deal damage since I use a katana, I wanted to be the opposite of a tank healer. Since Yuki is doing well on defense, I wanted to compliment her build with mine" thinking about it, his build was basically trying to compliment Yuki. Where she lacks in damage he'll cover it and where she needs someone to keep her health in check he'll do it.

Yuki's response to him was what he expected and at this point, he didn't want to argue with her anymore. It's been a while since he was this protective, a trait he inherited from his father. He hated being one at times because it always left a feeling of selfishness in him. The only thing he could do is help her get stronger, even if it means sacrificing his naps and comfort of wandering anywhere "how do I sort this out? I don't want to hold her back, yet I feel like I might..." Crozeph stopped himself. It was too early to think of such things, help her gain levels, that's his only goal right now.

"To compliment Yuki?"

In a way, wasn't that to replace what NIGHT's role was for her friend? The woman wrapped a hand around the back of her neck as she closed her menus, watching her friend step away from the team in a one-liner huff. Seems that not everything was as smooth as it first appeared in Wonderland.

"How do I sort this out? I don't want to hold her back, yet I feel like I might..."

Her eyes settled on her fading form in the distance, listening to Crow muse over his position. "Get stronger -- it's as simple as that. That's the point of our excursions, isn't it? To fast track all of us so that we might be better prepared for the road ahead."

"...You've been second-guessing yourself when we've been out hunting, haven't you?" It definitely had not gone unnoticed by the woman. As much as Crow cared about Yuki, if all he could see was the woman ahead of him it would be difficult for him to concentrate or focus on battle. Sheer willpower and true love could only go so far. For the role Crow wanted to play, preparation and knowledge was the name of the game. "Whatever your current setup can't take, you can always try and make it up with buffs and debuffs. Knowing what is possible in the game for you to achieve is the best way you'll be able to find ways to support Yuki. Getting to be the best version of yourself will help the people around you."

"If you need help with anything to help her, you know where to find me."

NIGHT started to follow the paladin's figure. They'd been in the desert for long enough, and she didn't want to keep her friend waiting. With a beckoning gesture, she persuaded Crow to tag along; even lost in his thoughts, they could still keep up their momentum for the time being.

The paladin huffed as she got out of earshot of the other two. People had been complaining and complimenting her since the boss meeting and it was honestly one of the most stressful things she's had to endure since entering the fields of Aincrad. The best she could do is to stay determined and continue to grow stronger with each passing day.

A groan escaped her breath as she clawed her way out of the ditch where the boss had taken place. She had half a mind to continue making her way to the floor teleporter, but she wasn't that mad. Waiting for the other two to come up out of the hole, she sighed and thought about what Crozeph wanted from her. He was worried about her well being for going to this dangerous floor boss, but that's why they had taken to power leveling. Yuki was never a coward, she wasn't scared of almost anything. She wasn't going to back out of something because it looked difficult, she would prepare to her best knowledge and improve herself for the coming hardships. She hoped he would soon be able to see that.
