Yuki found herself on a floor that she never really visited that often, and she could see why. This place was more dreary than the swamps that the Hebi resided in. Well, she had heard that there was something of a difficult quest here, so it wouldn't suck to do another one. Maybe the drops will be pretty good. Quickly, she opened her menu and invited her best friend to a party, before even sending her the message that came with it.

"Oi, I'm floor 13. I found a quest I've never heard of. Don't know what you know about it, but all I know is that there's an NPC dude named Mee-rack, however the hell you spell it, and he needs help with something. I might need some extra damage and I wasn't sure if you'd done the quest yet or not. I got some brand new gear that you might wanna check out too!"

How funny. NIGHT woke up to a party invitation. And she would've left it hanging, too, if she hadn't noticed that it was from her trusted bulwark herself.

The poor sleepy woman braced herself for the morning light, before stepping out of her sheets and carrying herself over to the washroom. It was her time in the shower that enlightened her more about the quest's details -- Fleur had begrudgingly filled her in on the details her memory was missing, the other half that Bistro lacked in her ledgers. Upon noticing how elaborate the information was, NIGHT deemed her breakfast for the day scarce, and decided to take what guild rations were available in her inventory at the time before heading out.

There was something to be said about an overload of buffs to be used. And while it had felt like there and then, the player also knew that the bosses shouldn't be looked down upon. After all, they seemed to be epitomes of the most gruesome of foes so far.

One step off the teleporter; Yuki was an easy find in the vicinity. "Take us there," she told her shield. "I hope we've got this in the bag."

"Of course we do." Yuki assured her sword. Beginning to lead the way to Miraak, who was waiting for the duo a little further in. Yuki couldn't contain her excitement to show her friend that so many people pooled together to get her a brand new set of gear built specifically for her. It even had seemed to take on the appearance of her own armor, if not giving off a darker shade of the steel.

It didn't take long for the two to find the tall, dark haired man. He greet both of them as they approached. "Greetings young ladies. I'm glad that you came back to help. Artamiel's seal must be removed if the land is to see any improvement in it's future. The angel's power should have at least weakened it, but I will give you both a moment to ensure that you're ready."

He crossed his arms behind his back, and to the players, his name could now been seen. "Hunh, so that's how you spell it." Yuki comment's looking at the name.

Yuki seemed a little extreme on the confidence there. If NIGHT had to speak honestly, she might've felt the same too, had she not just woken up and felt like her movements were ready to falter. Some trust went into Jack's Executioner pulling the heavy work for her -- the rest was up to her own skill.

It was when Miraak's name appeared in their party that NIGHT let out a sigh. So she'd gotten it wrong too in her waking hours. Whoops. "We're ready enough," the player reassured the system conduit, and with a nod, Miraak beckoned them with a hand. As though the action hadn't been enough of an indicator, he also added a brief "Follow me," and NIGHT gave Yuki a raised brow before tailing the man behind.

"How capable are you two fighters?" Their guide began, without so much as a turn of his head. "There are plenty of vile creatures about Demon's End, and I'd like to know how thoroughly you two would clear the area of its filth."

Demon's End? Did he just Demon' End? What kind of quest was this already turning out to be? It had already started way differently than she had expected. Miraak inquired about their strength as fighters, and Yuki would have felt slightly upset if it was a real person asking that to them.

"I am an extremely capable paladin that will protect you both from harm. My friend here is a great skirmisher that can deal more pain than she looks like at first glance." She winked to Night, just trying to tease her a bit. Maybe that would wake her up.

"That is good to hear." The man thought aloud, holding his hands firmly behind his back. "I myself have some skill with supporting you two should you need it. Healing and buffing are something of a specialty of mine, along with removing this seal that now plagues the town."

To Yuki's wink, NIGHT grimaced, more confused and lost at her friend's words than her actions. After Miraak had said his peace and quiet fell between the trio once again, the woman piped up from a moment of hesitation. "I'm afraid to ask what exactly you were implying there..."

Their scenery had always been questionable; Floor 13 was a desolate place, one that NIGHT would bet barely any player dared step into its domain. Its culture, nature and history were all lost to time and this unspeakable malice of a 'corruption', though what it looked like exactly was still a question left unanswered to the curious player.

They would soon find out, however. Down a street sectioned between two rows of low-rise buildings were the beastial growls of something feral. From the darkness of the alleyways around them, beads of red glows were the signs of their known enemy presence, and if that wasn't enough to key in on players about their inevitable combat routine, Miraak's readying of his -- what was it, a Bible? -- would tell any dense player so.

"They're here! The Diseased Ones. Be on your guard!"

Oh, and those words too. NIGHT, unimpressed, could only manage a hum before she jittered out of life.

"Stand behind me!" Yuki called out. The moment that the battle began, the paladin's glow accentuated. A pure light of holy fire enveloped her body, a warning to anyone that thought it was smart to get anywhere near her and retaliation for those that dared tried to stand against her. She grinned happily, loving the look of the new set of gear that she had acquired from her collective friends and summoned her usual equipment into existence.

"La Black Luna!" She breathed deep into her lungs and let it all into the brass instrument, a calling of battle. In response, the monsters all rushed directly at her. 

The putrid corpses met their match at Yuki's aura, splitting skin of the diseased corpses the moment that they came in contact with it. Their health bars took a huge dip. Once somehow got through the force field of holy fire, but even still, Yuki's frozen thorns bit it back. They all reeled away from her for a moment, toiling in pain.

Yuki was glowing.

This wasn't a compliment. She was literally glowing. Radiant holy light reflecting off her plated armor and all; a blazing flame with its particles searing and tearing off the steel of her chest plate. If only Miraak was sentient enough to register her majesty, perhaps he might've converted from whatever religion he believed in, because the one true divine being had come forth upon the broken ashes of the thirteenth floor in their true form.

And it was Yuki.

Too bad the rabble knew no better. Too bad Miraak was still a devout whatever-he-believed-in (Catholic? NIGHT was extremely quick to place the label on him, given his choice of wear), and too bad that the shield's companion hadn't noticed the change of armor quick enough upon her meeting with her friend. As the undead were stunned by their goddess' appearance, they soon found themselves also stunned -- by the venom upon NIGHT's blade, alongside her own version of the 'corruption'.

The paladin found her opportunity to strike, readying her own blade and charging in on the stunned creatures. With the way their health bars had been affected, she assumed Night was doing her thing in the shadows. The paralysis kind of sucked since the monsters wouldn't have the chance to feel her holy embrace, but still, Durandal would have to do for now.

The blade gifted by the angels raised to the sky turned a bright pink as it soared over each of the enemies helpless forms. Every attack hit, thankfully, but no procs on her damage over time. Not that it mattered much since Night was already doing good work in the background. Yuki would really have to update her kit so that her slots didn't counteract her own. That's what she had in mind for the the two-handed weapon, yet when she was using that weapon, she wouldn't have access to her critical protection thorns. Another piece of armor would be needed.

Maybe Miraak was daft. Maybe Cardinal saw things differently than was to be flavoured, because the more these creatures stayed alive, their veins crawling with sickly black across their skin, NIGHT found it harder and harder to find a reasoning to justify her weapon's incredible power.

Ignorance was bliss this day. For Miraak, of course.

NIGHT's dance continued to make short work of the corrupted's health bars; twice over she'd shattered two of her quarry by slashing them through their sides, and for her final kill she'd gutted the thing through cleanly, finding freedom in withdrawing her sword with a harsh swing as an exit. The last thing NIGHT needed to worry about was the final corpse still living, still throttling along the ground for some reason. She turned to Yuki in the hopes that her armor would see to it that the sinner be put to the ground.

Also, Miraak buffed the party. What a good lad.

Yuki watched as 3 of the writhing beasts came to bow to her power. The blight in her blade some how over came the corruption with in their bodies. Yuki's holy resonance however, was just and would burn them in to the afterlife. As soon as the three died, another group of diseased marauders charged into battle, how uncanny. These mobs wouldn't be such pushovers if they met the correct level requirement, but here they seemed to completely over power them.

Yuki's blade slashed through the air, only catching a single target in her wake, yet she was able to inflict her own bleed. As useless as that was, since Night would likely refresh the status effect in a moment or two. They all charged her, and she did nothing but welcome them with her holy embraced. The thorns of fire and beautiful radiant destruction overwhelmed them. Poor lost souls will find peace in death.

The felling of three foes meant the arrival of another set of crazed fiends, eager to meet their demise at both the light and darkness of the overworld. As Yuki's defense acted as the best offense, NIGHT swooped in with her own shadowed blade, culling the weakened, the sick and meek. Two of the monsters had managed to survive their onslaught, and soon there would be more to come.

What kept NIGHT entertained, however, was the trickle of loot that threatened to pour into her inventory. So she could get something from these? The player had become so accustomed to walking away with nary a reward save the quest's own deliverables to her that the thought of conjuring wealth from the undead creatures was startling at best. She swept a walking skeleton aside with her foot, its form crumbling into dazzling dust, as Miraak took his cue to heal the party.

For... nothing.

Yuki watched as another joined the fray just as Night slayed half of the remaining ones. She sighed in discontent, but it seemed like they were the last one in the vicinity. Pleased with that assumption, the paladin moves forwards and slashes her blade across the enemies one by one. The bleeding status effect resets on her other mob and her holy fire burns away at the target she gets close to.

"The Shadow is going to fear me. I am coming for his neck for sure." Yuki comments to no one in particular as she stands over the fumbling and writing mobs. She was starting to get a little bit cocky with the new set of gear that she had acquired. She felt basically immortal to the system. As if anything that touched her would dissolve into nothing but ashen crisp if it so much as looked at her the wrong way. That, however, did not take the tooth out of her grin.

Jack's Executioner sung as its steel clobbered bone, its slashes and shock waves distributing its opponent's form into the air as it faded away, crumpling under the weight and power of its girth. NIGHT reeled the blade in, on pause from combat as it fell to her side, the player leaning back from a lazy swing from the sole survivor still alive.

"The Shadow is going to fear me. I am coming for his neck for sure." 

Was this still about the boss meeting? NIGHT turned to her companion just in time to catch her sullen look from the comment she'd just made. At the corner of the player's view, she watched her defender's health bar go up by just a tick (Oh gee, thanks Miraak), as NIGHT resumed a proper stance while she still could, keeping vigil over the last remnant left standing.

"He sure will," she idly tossed towards the paladin. There was a moment of hesitation in her words, as NIGHT wondered if she truly believed her own reassurance to her friend. She'd shut her thoughts down quick enough, however. There were more important issues at hand to dice.

Yuki came toe-to-toe with the remaining of the blighted disasters they faced. Even after the others had died to Night's own version of the blight, none came to aid the last. Looks like he was the sole fellow to destroy these players with whatever the hell he was capable of. (Spoiler alert: He didn't have any power here.)

It charged the paladin relentlessly, no other strategy to get past her defenses than 'oh I hope I don't get burned by the pretty light'. Somehow, it actually didn't. It breached her aura without a spot on it and clawed at the paladin's shield arm. The moment it made contact, it's hand got latched to her frostbitten effects. The ice stuck them together like glue. IT struggled to break free as Yuki raised her sword over it's chest. With a follow up kick to it's chest, the ice exploded between them and it's arm shattered into pieces as it rolled onto it's back.

"'Bout time you join your friends to know the peace of death." Yuki said as she continued to approach it.

Who, exactly, was the executioner here? Mayhaps it was not the holy goddess herself, and yet her sword managed to slice it through before it could flail about any further against the light of their realm. NIGHT's upswing of her blade only sent its fallen ashes scattering into the air above, and with a loose grip, the weapon in between her hands was relinquished back into her inventory. Mission accomplished.

-- For now. Miraak's brief sheathing of his book and cursory scan about the area seemed to be an action out of deceived wariness, and what words followed spelled out the duo's next task on their long journey.

"Seems like we've vanquished all that are want to greet us. Tell me, are you certain you two are capable of continuing on a lengthy search?"

A confirmation for their prior choice. NIGHT nodded, eyeing her energy reserves. "Take us where you need to go."

"I will be your shield as long as I need to. If this excursion takes longer than expected, well, we'll just gain more experience from it anyways." Yuki says, leading the way into Demon's End. The roads were filled with a desolate emptiness of life. It was a depressing sight to see. It looks like this town could have really been a nice place to live had it not been completely destroyed in the corruption.

"It's a pity that we couldn't have done anything about all this destruction. Maybe if I had been less of a coward and left the Town of Beginnings sooner, I could have done something about it." Yuki thinks aloud as they continue their walk.

The ground cracked beneath Yuki and hands clawed their way up her shins. More diseased ones had come from the ground? How the hell did they even get there? They all paid for touching her holy aura anyways, but they hardly had time to rest. "K-Kuso. There's more!"

"Doubt it," NIGHT returned, wondering best based off her game design knowledge. "Unless Cardinal really likes running fifty other timers in the background for players to race against. More likely it was built to be apocalyptic from the ground up."

Her gaze swept over their environment just as her friend's did. It was strange, really; the buildings seemed much more modern than first expected of a town from Aincrad itself. Where there were houses of wood and stone from the city, here it seemed like they were forged out of brick. Beneath them, not dirt but asphalt. The player felt that if she'd looked hard enough into their surroundings, she might've been able to find a few broken generic electric sign boards. And she would've too, despite how immersion breaking that might've seemed to be a first glance.

There was just a little problem they had to take care of first.

Yuki stepped back to watch the mobs claw their ways out of the ground. They looked at her specifically. Perhaps they were chasing her down in hopes of being saved. At this point, Yuki was beginning to look a lot like an angel with this glowing aura and a sword named after a weapon delivered to earth by god's messengers. They sought some solace in her resonance.

However, in doing so they were annoying her and needed to die. As they approached, they didn't even get to touch her as her holy aura only repelled them. One did get through only to find her icy protection repelling it back out of her aura's range. With their combined efforts, Yuki and Night were a destructive team of two different mediums. The opposite extremes, yet they somehow still were an unstoppable duo of players. If it wasn't for her, Yuki isn't sure what she would be doing at this point. She'd probably be dead.

Four more of the untouched came writhing out the ground, the soil beside their dusty road path. NIGHT's initial wheel scathed all but a single target, and her next would leave no victim left unscarred. Strange how one was always quicker, much more evasive than the rest of the pack; their leader perhaps? With the similarities in their models and their behaviours, surely a player wasn't intended to tell. Still, with one full swipe of her blade, all but the hardiest of them all were gone with the wind.

For a moment her weapon seemed to stir to life -- anger, perhaps, steel feasting on NIGHT's own tantrum against their lone survivor. But its wrath flickered out somewhat conscientiously, like a noble reluctantly practicing self-restraint. So too did NIGHT give their opponent the benefit of the doubt.

It would go down sooner or later.

Miraak's Moveset

CD[12] | AoEs all enemies for 300 unmitigated DMG.
