[PP|F13]<<Cleansing>> Holy Fire for Demonic Blight

Even if one enemy survived Night's wrath, it was safe to say that her holy aura would make sure it regretted staying alive. It would have just been easier for it to have dropped dead there.

Yuki's fist drew in light and readied it's attack. The holy resonance around her hand built up slowly, and as the diseased beast moved forward, she unleashed that power in her hand, exploding strength that cracked the ground as the being was forced into the cement below them. Chunks of destroyed road splintered around her feet. The diseased and zombified corpse writhed in pain once it hit the ground.

Yuki sighed as her enemies tried to stop the burning of holy light from eating at it's flesh. "I can't believe they try so hard to walk through a wall of a fire over shards of broken glass." Yuki admitted, watching the burning creature writhe more and more.

With most of the pack down for the count, all that was left them and solace was one measly corpse. It thrashed around on the ground, rot sizzling from the impact of the player's punch, though it was quickly stopped when a heel pressed down hard on the corrupted's head.

Was it going to be death by strangulation? Not quite the merciful way to go out. Against the muted light of day, a dark shadow loomed over its scrambling form, the blinding white glow that shot up against faded clouds in the background thinning once, before it grew larger at an exponential speed. NIGHT's steel dove down upon its torso, edge cutting bone, severing apart the skeleton's ribs before it burst into transient remnants and twinkled out like the lights of a night sky.

She desummoned her blade with a thought, foot finally meeting the ground from hanging in airspace. Her energy reserves were shallow.

NIGHT turned to Yuki, choosing only to spare their NPC companion a glance. "Up for a quick break?"

Yuki nodded to her duo partner and headed over to the sidewalk's curb to take a seat. She returned her holy blade to it's scabbard and too a criss-crossed seat on the cement, resting her arm on her leg and her head in her hand. Shooting a glance to Night, she sighed and closed her eyes, trying to relax.

"We've been leveling up so fast. It feels like just yesterday we were level thirty or so. I have been on a non-stop grind for about three months now. Honestly, I thought I would die trying to make it to this point." Yuki admitted, no staring down the ground below her feet. The thought of how many times she's felt the danger of nearly dying only to barely survive. Her luck was either uncanny, or she had just done what she needed to in the end. No she walks through the fear without a care in the world. She never thought that this experience would change her so much.

Funny. With the breakneck pace she'd constantly seen from her friend, the last thing NIGHT had really expected to see was exhaustion; especially now when they were on a quest, more so a danger than ever. As Yuki took a seat on the curb, her sword turned to squatting to lower herself down to eye-level, the woman resting her elbows on her knees in a somewhat polite manner. Neither of them seemed to bother with letting Miraak know of their predicament, but for what it was worth, the man seemed to stand idle yet vigil over them as they faced away from him in conversation.

NIGHT raised a brow as she heard her friend's words. Perhaps it was just her, but the player felt that she'd exercised each day to its full limit every time they'd went hunting. While Yuki couldn't believe their time spent grinding, at least NIGHT could. "Don't tell me it's because of that build of yours. Besides, you'd finally gotten the armor of your ideals. The game's only just starting for you, end-game hero."

"I don't wanna be anyone's hero." Yuki said, sounding like the every shounen protagonist ever. She shifted her weight as she continued. "I just want to get out of the game, and protect others so that they can go and see everyone they're missing on the other side. I've just been so busy for the last few months that I have hardly taken a break to think about my own sanity. I must admit that I'm feeling rather tired. I am glad to have reaped the spoils of my grind finally. Thank you for being there with my most every step of the way. I feel like I owe you a lot."

Yuki watched her energy tick back up to full now that they had been out of combat long enough. She felt revitalized the moment she saw that bar continue back up to full. "Gomen." Yuki says, raising to her feet carefully and dusting off her stockings from the back. "We should get back to it then. This is hardly the time for me to be moping."

"There's no need to push yourself, y'know?" NIGHT's sigh held full emotion over the woman's concern for her friend, while a fury burned at the back of her throat for the haphazard state the tank seemed to tear herself through for the sheer effort of getting out of the game. Honestly. The player hadn't even met anyone else half as determined to see themselves free of the game so far, and with the amount of strain Yuki seemed to be putting on her own shoulders, it almost looked like she was aiming to tackle the task alone, or as fast as possible.

Why did she fight like she was running out of time?

"And here I'd thought you'd prioritize caution over all else, what with your build and all. Haste makes waste. If you need to slow down then do so; the twenty-fifth's fight isn't going anywhere just yet."

As they rose, NIGHT nodded to her companion's thanks. "You can thank me by taking a break if you have to. For what it's worth, I think Crow might enjoy the company when he's relaxing in your household."

Yuki started to walk ahead after standing up. She had to get herself ready to move on reassuring herself that she could rest later. That was when Night started to speak. Yuki was caught mid-step before she stopped in her tracks to listen. She returned her foot to stand up straight.

A moment of silence washed over the two as Yuki thought on her words. "That's nice." Yuki whispered first before speaking up. "I may need a break, but I can't stop. I need to keep getting stronger so that I can run that shadow into the ground. I won't let anyone get hurt."

Yuki left it on that note can continued to lead the way. She did want to take it slow, but she could just rest after the boss fight was over. Her and Crow were going to get married then. Then she could relax. She could take it slow and just enjoy here time in the game until the next boss raid came.

Every ounce of determination that rippled out of Yuki only seemed to cause NIGHT to wince further. This had to be a form of self-harm in one way or another; a toil on her mental energies, perhaps. A type of burn out that might inevitably fall upon her shield if she kept up the stalwart pretense without concern for her own well-being. As the tank trotted down the broken boulevard, NIGHT turned to Miraak with an envious notion. She had never been good at stopping her friends and their emotions before (not that she'd tried), but what she would still kill for the disposition of being a husk of a wall flower for the moment.

Two steps forward, a turn, and a beckoning with her fingers. "We're ready to go, Miraak. This way, right?"

"Certainly. Keep an eye out for any other hostiles in the vicinity. I'm sure our temporary reprieve was only much to serve their ruinous agenda."

And sure enough, the enemies came forth at his mentioning of them. A swarm of four trickled out the crevices between the brick houses, four-legged vile beasts this time, ridged skeletal backs with spikes and rotten flesh draped across their forms.

One call for her sword and a lunge forward. After this, she decided, even NIGHT would need some time off for today.

The moment the enemies reappeared, Yuki let out another sigh and pulled her trusty horn from her belt, with in a moment, the familiar blue light emanated from her, getting the solid attention of the enemies around them to look towards the tank.

As much as Yuki had been excited to try out her new gear, the fatigue of all the work that she had put into this set had drained her of all motivation to enjoy herself. It didn't help that she could basically stand around and do nothing and get value for it. Maybe it would help her to be more active against groups like this, but what was the point really? Her damage was way too insignificant to matter in the grand scheme of things, and she would just be wasting energy for it. Might as well just sit back and watch her targets burn for trying to touch her.

Rinse and repeat. NIGHT wove through the small pack of enemies, each of them trying their best to graze up against Yuki's magnificent light. She'd stopped two of the miscreants in their tracks, Jack's Executioner deciding that death by Plague II a better demise than the un-afterlife. Meanwhile, as two more got past her unleashing of tar, she'd caught each of the enemies in a whirling dervish, leaving just one straggler from the skirmish left standing.

For those who might've been in the know, it must've been funny. How Yuki, standing still, seemed distracted and withered by something else in mind. With nary a thought to the enemy charging for her, a blast of light seemed to emanate from her position, expelling forth from the heavens and singing the rushing opponent backwards, to the floor. NIGHT took advantage of the opportunity (What? An armor skill?) and culled the lone skeleton in half, clearing the grounds for yet another fight to begin.

 

By the way, it was entirely Miraak's doing that such a light occurred. Good job, Miraak.

The paladin noticed Miraak's attack, which was actually kind of scary when you thought about just how much power an NPC could dish out like that. Ah whatever. He only exists to drive forward this plot. There were monsters much more terrifying than him dealing 200+ damage.

Not even a step forward and more of the diseased enemies came rushing out of the townhouses breaking down the doors and throwing themselves at the paladin. Looks like her earlier howl had gotten to them, they were just slow. Slow as hell they were. Yuki hadn't even moved from her spot when they all lunged at her. Three of them dropped at her feet, completely missing her with their diving attacks and another found itself writing against her holy aura.

"A for effort I guess? Nah, that would be more like C, cause that was the most pitiful attempt on my life I've ever seen."

"Aren't you merciful," NIGHT returned back, noticing their new enemies lunge for her tank from looking over her shoulder. "And here I'd figured just to fail them outright."

One swing of her blade called forth a blast strong enough to send three of Yuki's would-be death suitors away from her light. Meanwhile, as a fourth dove away from its brethren and managed to land a strike, NIGHT circled around behind the pillar of light, batting the villain away from their banner. Her weapon hissed just as much as she did at its successful connection, and while NIGHT was ready to set it down first before its party, the claymore had just the same ideas, beating its master for acting the foe's reaper.

The player glanced back to the fallen scrambling to their feet. Meanwhile, in her trail, Miraak waved a hand around, calling forth magicks of the Lord.

Only to heal one (1) HP on Yuki.

Yuki watched the three stooges get up off the ground only to be sent several meters flying by her partner. Yuki stood their with her arms folded, but when she noticed that one of the remaining of the blighted fiends was barely hanging on to it's unlife. She drew her blade and made a sword art. A slash of her blade across all the targets and she left the poor fool hanging even closer to death than he had been before. Well, he could suffer a few seconds longer while waiting on the damage over time to finally end his misery.

Yuki then sheathed her blade back into it's holster. She really didn't need to waste all her energy taking attacks when her thorns did more than twenty times her damage with a weapon. She stood over the four enemies, waiting for their next feeble attempts to put her in the ground.

They were put to rest in a matter of seconds. She'd closed the gap between the fallen group, the weapon blazing alight with a familiar thrumming energy. One skid across the collective horizontally and her blade trailed to follow, marking out a cut line down their torsos, back and front.

An explosion marked their timely demise. So too did the one in the far distance shatter with its party, as though the death of the majority also chimed for its farewell, too. NIGHT spun the blade in her hand, gaze sweeping it over -- it wasn't so much for theatrics more than it was to check that her blade hadn't shown any signs of wear. As much as she'd been reliant on it, there might be a need to keep watch for its exertion and limits.

When she'd verified there was nothing for her to worry about, the player readied herself for the next pack, signaling their arrival with a snarl and a charge.

 The next pack of feral monsters charged the lines of players without a care in the world. The paladin crossed her arms and sighed as the group drowned upon her, also being affected by her previous howl attempt. There wasn't much reason for her to even use her weapon, so why bother.

They surrounded her and clawed at her armor, doing more to get through than most of the other groups that they had fought up until now. They felt the burning freeze of Yuki's new gear, searing at their rotted and blighted skin.

"Try in vain and leave me alone." The pink haired paladin said continuing her way to the place that Miraak needed to go to. These mobs doing absolutely nothing to her didn't matter all that much. As long as they focused solely on her and not Night, there wasn't any problems.

Walking? While the enemies were attacking her?

Shocking. If only most players were keen on doing so for the other quests. By the time any monster would've been slain, perhaps all parties would've seen themselves at a settlement's doorsteps, making the work's after party significantly more accessible.

No, wait. Yuki was the exception. Most tanks would need to take on the burden of making sure they would negate most damage. Meanwhile, her paladin seemed not to even wince at the sight of them brushing up against her armor.

Sheesh.

NIGHT'd diced up two of the enemies as she took after her walking bulwark, Miraak trailing behind. It almost seemed comical how the NPC behind them had stopped a few times just to attempt a spell cast, before cancelling it entirely, jogging forward instead. The player spotted the damage buff appear on her HUD (well appreciated, by the way) as she left the blight-stricken corpses behind, chasing the rest of the other walking dead with the edge of her sword.

Two of the remaining the mobs dropped to the ground as the paralyze affected them from Night's sword. The truly horrific blade that was Jack's Executioner was the only great pair to her holy set of aura. The two of them together could take down legions of enemies with little to no effort. Yuki could take on anything with little effort, as she was currently displaying and Night would just melt everything the moment that she touched them.

She felt her aura reject a touch on her the moment that one of the moving mobs tried to claw at her. The second one reached through the glorious light, and bit down on her armor. Yuki looked to her arm, grabbed the blighted creature by its head with her free hand, unlatched it from her appendage and tossed to the ground while frosted bits ate at it's remaining skin. The paladin continue to walk towards the boss location.

In their wake, the paralyzed foes could only burst into glass helplessly, victim to her claymore's blight. Almost as though to show off its power once more, her blade sung as it was buried into the side of yet another undead opponent, only spewing enough of its bile to corrode it into nothingness. NIGHT's sunder against the tossed corpse was more of a mercy than otherwise, and her expedient shove off the ground after shredding its health bar was towards yet another enemy.

The last one, in fact. It nearly went down, had she once struck it in her previous arts. Unfortunately, her single strike against its torso had only done so much as to leave it in the orange.

To that, NIGHT grit her teeth, watching the enemy flounder about in its attempt to get under Yuki's nerves. For a moment, she wondered if by a stroke of luck, Miraak would finish off their chaser.

He didn't. Go figure.

Yuki  could see the quest end location not that far from where she was now. Thank god, she was ready to be done with all these diseased corpses and go home to sleep. She would kill to see Crozeph's face right now.

She had been so distracted with the quest ahead of them that she hadn't realized the remaining gnat that continued to bother her. With a sigh, she turned on her heel and rammed her fist into the side of the being's head. Data pieces exploded from the skull of the blackened humanoid.

Yuki looked up to Night and tried to relax. She cleared her throat before she spoke to her. "I'm sorry. I know I've been a bit stressed and it's probably bumming you out. If you need to take a rest before we finish this up, let me know. Otherwise, we'll finish this and I'll take a real break from the game."

oh thank goodness the chase was finally over

As Yuki landed a tough blow against the shambling corpse, it almost seemed as though light had returned to her eyes. That was reassuring; her stampede in general silence save the occasional lines of mockery was starting to get to her (though NIGHT admitted she could get used to it. Talking in battle? Wasn't for her). The dead faded away with a trickle of stars, and NIGHT nodded at Yuki's disposition. Even when she was faded, it was nice to know her friend was still looking out for her.

The best kind of bulwark. Now she'd better get her shield back to bed before Yuki frayed even further at the edges.

"A moment, then." NIGHT's energy bar was starting to tick back up. She'd taken the occasion to look over to Miraak, who was scanning his new surroundings.

"Anything to report?"
