Ugh. The sun is way too bright~

Mason just rapidly blinks the light out of his eyes, trying his best to use his hand to block the sun's rays. Jeez~ Did they really have to simulate how bright the sun really is? What's the point? He's starting to sweat a little bit, doing his best to wipe it off his face. All of this just adds up to an unpleasant experience, especially with the fact that he literally just left his shop for the first time in forever. And for what, the second beginner quest that's probably very easy to undertake?

Especially since he had adequately prepared for such a quest to get it over with as fast as possible. Because he's just that lazy... Where does he have to go again? ... Uh... Right! Right right right! He has to go to that blacksmith! The one that he delivered the package to, last time in that other beginner's quest!

...

Huh. The blacksmith's shop isn't that far away from his shop! Isn't that great? That means he didn't have to walk that far to get where he needed to! Ehehe! Alright! Let's get this over with so I can curl up back in my shop again. Pushing through the door, he can feel the sweltering heat from the forge, despite it being quite hot already. In fact, he's wiping off the sweat off his face again, as he hurriedly makes his way over to the NPC - moving at speeds that he usually does not use.

Yadda yadda~ Skip skip skip, I don't really care~ Just let me get this over with already~.

Having skipped all the dialogue, he can see his quest log gets updated - thank god he muted those notifications -  and started walking out... Before pausing right at the entrance as he thinks about it.

Uh... Where do I go?

Mason whistles, walking down the path that leads him out of the town. Course, his whistling joins the bustling chorus that is the lively town around him. After all, there are still quite a bit of NPCs around here - and even with all those NPCs, there's still a lot of players that are still laying low in this town. Sometimes, he can spy them setting up shops, taking inventory, and advertising their wares. Other times, he sees a few people hiding out in libraries and the such, just doing their best to have a normal life in a new, well, rather abnormal life.

But hey, that's what life is about, isn't it? Living the best you can, each and every day. Sure, escaping is a priority - but wasting your life away with stress and trauma... That's no way to live at all. So he'll make sure to have a home for them. And eventually, he'll bring that home to the front lines. Sure, being on the front lines isn't his thing at all, but hey, whatever happens, happens!

Tsk. Man, why does this location have to be so far away from the starting area? Useless thoughts like these orbit around in Mason's head, kicking stray branches and the like. And despite his approach to the overwhelming wilderness that is surely full of hostile mobs, he's not that scared at all - Though he is honestly surprised by the amount of players that are still hovering around here... Then again, that might just be because they're trying to gather materials in the easiest way possible. Hell, he's going to have to do that soon himself - his cafe is eating up materials like no tomorrow!

But, that's for later. And when he has all day to spend it. Right now, he has a limited time window to get this stupid quest over with so that he can tackle the next one, and the one after that for free SP. Then he can hold up in his shop again, because honestly it's a nice place to stay.

And this way of thinking is the reason why he doesn't have any good friends yet, but hey, that doesn't matter, right? Right?

And so he ends up at a clearing, that has the boars he's looking for roaming around.

Alright! Let's see, what's the best way to aggro a bunch of - Oh. Hold up.

Mason opens his menus, expertly navigating through his inventory in order to unequip his current accessory and replacing it with something else! The wayfinder! Normally, he would've, y'know, actually done the work and use his sword to cut through all these teeny pups... But! The immolation potion immediately kills them straight off, and they can't even do much to him in the first place! So... Why even bother putting in any effort?

After some navigating, he finally finds the items he needed in his inventory. As a result, the keychain on his blade disappears as it's replaced with the elegant necklace that is now on his neck. As for the other item that he wanted to pull out... Aha! There it is! In his hand is an immo pot, and he's definitely going to take it right now considering how long it can last.

Now... How to piss off a bunch of boars at once...

Alright piggy piggies, come out and play! Make my life easier for me~!

Mason decidedly makes a loud sound by kicking a nearby tree as hard as he could. He does it once. He does it twice. And is third time the charm - The bushes nearby starts to rustle, as multiple eyes are slowly revealed. Freaky. Except that this what he wants. So! Let's get them attacking now, shall we? He lifts his foot once more, kicking the tree as the pups start to move closer and closer - growing more and more hostile.

And to seal the deal... He gets closer to draw aggro! And thus, all the boars charge at him. Normally, this would be rather uncomfortable for him, considering swarming can be quite a mess, but this is the easy cheese strat after all!

And as he gets tackled by the boars, he watches three of them flail and miss - as the two that DID hit him did minor damage and immediately burns up. Sure, it did hurt a bit, but boy does this make it so much easier.

Except no loot dropped from the dead boars. Yikes.

Gah! How unlucky do I have to be?

Mason buckles under the weight of the two boars that managed to hit him, and had been immensely disappointed by the fact that those two boars did not go up in flames. They must've landed a crit on him, and that's honestly a feels bad man as some people would call it. But! At least these mobs don't get crit damage! More importantly, the mitigation he has is already negating all the damage they're doing anyways!

Ah... That’s another one. Yikes.

... But that means he has to wait for these guys to die out and see if they drop the loot he needs... Man, he hopes it doesn't take too long, he has a scheduled nap to get to! ... Maybe he can use the sword. Maybe. If these mobs last a few more rounds and he DOESN'T get anything, he's gonna start swinging alongside the immolation pot. Whatever it takes.

And he just watches the pups fail to hit him. Again. Bah. Just... Just a few more seconds... They'll hit him right? They gotta. There's no way the developers programmed these AIs to be that incompetent... Right? ... Wait. These are beginner mobs. Yeah, no, he's gonna be here for a while... Hey, at least he's leveled enough to do some damage immediately, so that won't be bad at all, right?

Nonetheless, he was not at all ready to draw out his blade, so guess he's just being a punching bag to some tutorial mobs until they die. Unless they drop loot. Then he won't have to draw the blade at all! With that... He's just going to continue to eye these boars, as they huff and puff as they try to get on stable footing so that they can charge their enemy and hopefully not miss their next attack. Despite, you know, Mason standing still.

Almost like it was some sort of destined outcome, Mason managed to not get hit by all three boars - and when he did a quickdraw for his blade, he missed the third. Yikes... He just frowns, as he completely grasps how long this is going to take. Oh lord, at least he gets free experience for this quest... But no materials! Which is the worst part!

Why~? Can I just fall over and hope these mobs end up hitting me?

Alas, he cannot do that because it would only end up elongating the fight unnecessarily. So, he'll just have to waste his time. Like a fool. And probably not get the materials he needs so he has to do this again. Welp! He's going to be in for a long ride... Might as well settle in. Mason firmly plants his feet, ready to draw his blade once again on the next boar within striking range. More importantly, making it easier for these mobs to hit him!

What was the quote again...? Stop trying to hit me, and hit me!

Oh! He got hit! Did it drop, did it drop? ... Yes! Yes it did!

Now he has to deal with the last two mobs and hope they drop their materials too - that, and hope he manages to hit them if they don't him him. Nonetheless, when he missed his hit, he starts to sheathe his blade and slowly shuffles his way over to a more busy area. That way, he can attract the next batch of mobs and finish those off if he has to. Despite that, and all his earlier planning... He can't help but feel slightly, if not a bit, frustrated by how this quest has ended up...

After all, he has a nap to get to, and he really doesn't want to end up going into his nap time. So! Let's hope this, uh, fight ends up going by quickly with some good RNG to boost his odds of getting the material he needs.

Here we go, here we go! It's happening!

Mason firmly plants his feet into the ground, as the boar pups charging him are now extremely more competent than they were before! The first boar hits him straight on, immediately burning up into flames without dropping any loot. Nonetheless, that wasn't his main focus as he got a crit by the second, before landing a deadly blow on it in return! The status effects on his weapons are meaningless considering that these are low level mobs, but it felt nice landing a big blow.

And... It drops his loot! Nice! With that, he bends over and picks it up. Now... The best way to insure he grabs the next material he needs... Maybe drag out three mobs again?

Hmm... What to do, what to do... He could drag out some mobs one by one, but that’s real time consuming... Not only that, but he’s been outside for literally more than a minute...

Thus, the boars come crawling out, slowly surrounding Mason as they prepare for their charge - but he's going to strike first this time! He's sick and tired of waiting for something good to happen, when he can just make it happen. Mason grits his teeth, as he swiftly lifts his leg and planting it with a hard thud at an angle... And he spins in a massive strike.

Despite being lazy about using said sword art, he did end up catching two out of the four boars, immediately eviscerating them and spawning the last quest material he needs. And he didn't even get hit- Wait... He wanted to get hit... Aw man. That means he still has to deal with two more boars. Which means more time wasted on this stupid beginner's quest.

...

Mason pouts, looking at the two still alive, and still very angry pups. He could just run away...

Nah. He could wait. It's not like he can do much else anyways... So...

Mason falls onto his back, closing his eyes as he waits for the mobs to kill themselves by hitting him. Hopefully... Thud thud thud. That's the sound of their footsteps charging at him! It's going to happen! He cracks his eyes open, pleased to see one pup evaporate into the air in flames... Only to be disappointed by the last pup, that is currently still alive and still very annoying. Unfortunately, it had tripped onto the ground, doing its best to get on its feet.

Ugh. Do I wanna get up...? I could just wait...

Thus, he deliberates on this, waiting for these order of events to speed up. Course, he gets himself into a much more comfortable position, supporting his neck and back because those are the most important parts of your body! He thinks, anyways.

Ugh. Fine. Whatever. If he misses, he misses. If he hits, he can go him. If the mob hits, it dies. If it misses, time is wasted. There is nothing that suggests that doing something is a bad idea - except that he has to put effort into doing something - but he really wants to go back to the shop and make stuff. And nap. Definitely the latter.

Mason grunts as he kips up, lazily opening his eyes to be greeted by the pup still rolling around to get on its feet... At this point, it's just a mercy kill as he slowly draws his blade and immediately slashes downward to cut the pup open.

No need to worry about materials, he got everything he wanted. Though... He does wonder about everywhere else... Eh. It doesn't matter. If anyone wanted help, he'd surely hear some shouting. That, or see someone running. So! He'll go on his merry way!

... Lazily making his way out of the dense forest, he's greeted by the blistering heat and the annoyingly bright sun. But, it's fine! After all, that means when he gets back to the shop, he'll be thankful for how cold the interior is, and how cozy it is! That doesn't stop him from panting a bit and sweating, but y'know, that's more personal business that he hopes other people wouldn't pick up on him. Nonetheless, at least he's going back into the town again.

You know, now that I think about it... I'm getting way to comfortable with this route.

Honestly, that fact makes him just a tad bit uncomfortable. That means he spent way too much time doing useless things on a completely random and long path that is meant to be really annoying to the players... Has he gotten used to this cursed thing? Oh no... He really didn't want to get used to taking random paths like this....

Ah... This path in the town is quite nice, now that he's been through it at least fifty times by now. It's a real treat seeing all these shops and restaurants opening up since the beginning of the game, and it's a real treat being able to do a bit of window shopping with the goods that are up for sale! But... He's staying frugal with his Col. After all, he needs to use it later. Probably.

Nonetheless, it's nice grabbing inspiration for what he wants to sell at his own place. Or things to decorate it with. Like flowers. Man, he loves flowers... It puts a smile on his face, as he almost lazily continues down on his path... Despite, you know, looking like a complete homeless person with the style of clothing he has on. Or well, how dirty he actually looks in general - but he doesn't care.

Returning to the overwhelming heat in the workshop is the absolute worst. Like, it's already hot enough outside - does it have to be just as hot, if not hotter inside?

Bleh. Just pull through Mason, you got this.

Pushing through the doors again, he pulls out the three tusks that he had collected and handed them over to the NPC. Now to skip all the dialogue. Again!

Skip skip skip~ Skip! Oooh, package!

With package in hand, he heads right out of the workshop to be greeted by the bustling street again. Except he hadn't learned his lesson, as the look of despair on his face continues to grow. Um... Where to go, where to go... He starts to bring up the menus, diving into the quest log and scrolling and scrolling just so that he knows where he actually has to deliver the package handed to him by the NPC.

Ohoho~!

Look at this neat little grove! Full of nice trees that is strong enough to hold him up... And a decent enough locale that makes it easy to sleep in! Not bad, not bad! Too bad he actually has a temporary place to stay at now, but hey, not a bad idea to start marking down more of these areas - who knows when you'll need a nap, after all. Mason pulls out the menu again, going into the map and creating a waypoint so he remembers this in the future.

With that, he closes it and starts looking for the NPC - and is greeted by them! Oh, they look quite cute. Eh. Too bad they can't really think. Or, well, act human, knowing the developers of this game... Bah, what is he even saying. After all, it's just an NPC and it's not like anyone would ever know that he thought of this.

Mason just wipes away the sweat that's just building up from the sweltering heat. Boy, is he excited to eventually get back inside... At least it won't take too long to browse through the rewards. Let's see...

A weapon with a damage enhancement, or armor with mitigation... Would've been nice for a newbie, but he's not one of those. More importantly, there's some real generous folks that are willing to give away more than that. Maybe they can get scrapped? Is that a thing people can do in this game? Bah. Something to find out for later...

Ooo! Potion! Oh... Only usable in the next quest... Eh. That won't be bad. Probably. Hopefully. Maybe if I actually get a friend and pull them along for the ride. Or not. He does an imaginary shrug, as he starts to wander off into the town again - he has to do a bit of shopping after all, and more importantly: a nap to get to!

Alas, he returns to his humble abode shop. Empty handed.

After all, being frugal is good for someone in an RPG! Who knows when you need that currency, or when you need that super neat consumable... So why not save it, yeah? Nonetheless, the quest is over and he can finally rest. Mason slowly makes his way around the counter, gently placing his weapon down as he starts taking a pillow and blanket out for him to take a nap...

Ah, how great...

And not even a minute after, the sound of the door opens as customers start to come into the shop once again.

Aw man... Despite the disappointment, he puts up a tired smile as he starts getting to work for the day again! After all, he quite likes this way of life despite how much it infringes on his "me time". Plus, being a cafe has its perks, so he really can't complain.
