[F22-PP] To end the Impossible (Night about the Galactic Lake)

Recommended Posts

A continued search, Raidou would not let it go quite as easily as others. Despite the fact they were NPC and after the event was through, they would hardly remember his actions. But it was a proof of concept, not only to them but to himself. How strong was his drive? Once he succeeded to find some remnant of the child lost to the waves, he would be done but not sooner. No longer how long it took he'd find something or run out the clock. At least he could say he gave it his all. Taking a moment to recoup his losses and taking a moment to sate his growing hunger before it could prey upon his fatigue, Raidou repairs his lenses to his nose and pulls his robe close to his shoulders. With his breath caught, he looks back to the lake of floating lanterns before he begins to scour its edges again like a dedicated search party.

Raidou consumes Lemon Berry Palmiers (+4 LD, Kitchen'd)

Rounding the dark water, Raidou sifts through the sands that compose the shore to the echoing sounds of the liquid eroding away in a constant sway. A darkened sky robs him of full perception, the stars offering little for guidance for what he sought. But it did not deter him from trying, a tenacious and ever present determination to come up with something kept him driven. He kept finding that in his pursuit he'd find aught of use, taking care to deposit them before moving further. His HUD kept chiming with the addition of golden stars into his inventory, paying it little mind for it was the least of his worries. "Nothing here." the nomad comments to the wind, his words producing very little sound for they were meant for no one. The sand of the shore stuck to the lines of his fingers, showing the present moisture in its attachment.

Lifting himself from his hunched position the red robe still emboldened against the rather darkened backdrop that surrounded him, coupled with a mirrored like reflection of light upon the frames on his nose. His footfalls produced little in the way of sound, almost like a raking crunch akin to that of snow. His search continues in a strategic comb of the environment, using his HUD and the gridding present to create a system to something that had none already. He was an info broker in his past, and it was moments like these when the information was what was necessary it became the most apparent. With each traveled foot, a bit more of the small map begin to gain visibility as it wiped away the fog of war. "Not yet." Raidou comments with his eyes peeled to the tan sand beneath his heels, relying on his skillset heavily as it had served him to this point.

This seemed to go on for ages, timed seemed diluted by his purpose and as such an hour felt like seconds. He dug and scoured along the edge of the water, from the docks and the sands the same. He pictured that little boy, the most accurate duplicate he had found yet. It was strange, if he didn't know better it was as if the cardinal had brought the kid to him on purpose. He was so similar to the man he was speaking with that it looked manufactured to be that way, but he could hardly see the reason for such an intense focus from the digital overlord to warrant that to be the case. "It's probably a coincidence..." The words fall from Raidou's lips simply as an audible form of thoughts personified, meant for no one to hear them but to allow the swarm to escape his head.

The nomad attempts to press the notion from his memory, for it would matter little in the grand scheme of things and would only prove a distraction if allowed to take root. With a press of his glasses to his nose, he keeps himself on track parading along the shore moving in one sweeping ring about its edge. He had traveled what could have been a considerable distance for most in record time, taking moments here and there to claim the golden nodes of plants and ore that found him more than he found them. They were hardly what the red wanderer was seeking, but they glimmered like an offering as they screamed for his attention. It appeared as though however that despite the fact he kept taking a pause to claim these small boons that they did little at winding away the clock on his HUD for he was keeping an almost inhuman pace.

With this pace that could cause even the most durable person to waver, Raidou seemed unfazed as if the cardinal was holding no barring on his movements. Turned out all those trips and constant chores to keep things moving amicably and fluid had bolstered his endurance to ungodly levels, he had not thought about it before but perhaps it was how he was able to go toe to toe with the Forgotten Time King with little issue. But the thought was nothing more than conjecture, he had no way to substantiate the idea so he would leave it to speculation instead of allowing it to cling to his thoughts. More and more he kept on harvesting what the world would offer but always as nothing more than a secondary motive, looking for some sign of Yori the primary. Raidou found it a bit peculiar at the difficulty it offered, for he knew his perceptions were over the top.

Despite the fact, he found no trace of the kid, perhaps time having a barring on the difficulty. But it was not impossible, and the nomad had a hard time now assuming anything would be able to be called such a thing again. Everything seemed to have a solution these days, and this should be treated no differently. He'd seek out that solution through an inquisitive mind, it would only take time to have that epiphany that would lead him to success. He thought of the child and his response, surely Shoji would appreciate the sentiment and having what he sought returned. As good of a reason as any, Raidou allowed the idea to cling in his brain actively as a motivator. For he was no coward or weak willed individual, as the sand on his skin proved. His robe would surely stink of the water once he was through.

It would be a bit of an ordeal to remove the smell from the fabric, but not one that he was a stranger to. No, he had a habit of trailing into the most numerous scents that clung to the red cloth that he wore by the day. It was a beacon and boon for those that knew to look for it, a symbol of reliance and to his enemies hopefully: fear. But maintaining the garb was a bit of a process, for it was prone to rips and tears thankfully mending it showed none of the insistent tearing upon it. It was a wreck after a few of his confrontations, being the first to sustain damage when he had not. But he like it, always had a way of coming back and appearing the same. He wondered how important this robe was to others, for to him it was his heart on his sleeve.

Pulling the robe tightly to his body, keeping it close for security he adored it. The night appeared young but hours had passed through his travels, showing him little of what he sought out. His inventory grew ripe with materials but what he truly wanted seemed to elude him, as if the cardinal was taunting him to continue to see how long he would. The joke would lie upon the system itself, for it would give in long before he had. A slide of his hand showed he had ringed a good third of the lake, drawing a line of clarity upon its perimeter. Silently he wondered how far Yori could have drifted from the city of coral, there was hardly a current in the waters of almost a wine black at this time of night. There was torrential rain that cast Shoji into the water, which could have had some bearing.

He'd look deeply into the water and look carefully at his map trying to get the gist of how far his remains could have traveled, but given the time it was no small feat. Although the pool did not have a direct flow, each form of turbulence would unanchor what lie within. Moreso Raidou had all but forgotten until now that he hardly knew an origin point, being obviously somewhere in the city of coral but the city was no small icon. No, it was a large settlement and within its connection to the lake in the span of a mile could have been where Yori met his end. This made the inquiry all the more difficult to define, he'd have to rely on wits and sight alone for the information he'd need for a drift chart would be lost to the waves as well as the boy with the courage to save another.

This beckoned him to continue, through drive alone he continued to parade the shoreline. With his menu still, ajar he noticed the accumulation of gold stars in his inventory now much more noticeable with a defined value now reading back at him. Seems to be an additive of his search, as if the system was egging him on to continue his journey. "I don't need any more incentives." Raidou comments to the screen before sliding it shut. It simply meant that now he'd need to find out where to offload them, unsure if they had a weight on his person or not but would not take the risk. Perhaps within the city of coral would be a stall or something to deal with them, he'd have to seek it out once he found what he was after. He maintained his optimism, that if he had spent enough time searching that perhaps he may just find something for Shoji to remember his lost friend by.

The waters swelled and shrank upon his right, his feet dragging through the sands and foliage. Among it were bottles and other bits of debris in small trinkets, seemingly from a hearth beneath the waves. This meant that perhaps something that belonged to the boy could surely do the same, Raidou hardly wished to dive inside the dark waters for he would not be at his best should he need to defend himself. Removing a small stone from his pocket, it glowed like a lantern in his grasp. A small boon from Ariel proved time and time again to be useful, even now it was offering him vision where the light could not be found. It casts a bluish white light to its surroundings, without a targeted weapon it seemed to offer a paled whitish color instead as if absent of the catalyst that made it take a different hue.

Step after step the nomad walked, following nothing more than hope. Who knew where the kid could have been dragged, if the storm was so great he could have surfaced on the opposing side of the large body of water. Between the lighting and the size, Raidou had his difficulty placed upon him. It was clear that it would be only by chance and chance alone should he stumble upon what he was seeking. Above a painted tapestry of black, a scatter of stars speckled it in myriad colors as if each were hand placed with a different colored brush. They began to burn a trail, drawing lines upon the ink. He silently wondered if others would see the show from coral, wondering if it would bring the wish they dreamed to bear fruit. He was not one for faith, but would not chastise that chose to believe in such fleeting hope.

He would carve and shape his own faith, through turmoil and troubled water. He pictured those he had made promises to, wondering if, in fact, he'd fail them. It was not out of fear, but simply an observation of reality. The truth was as a tank, you were the first target, and no respectable tank would allow those to which he was charged to fall before they had. It was harsh but accurate to what he expected. Raidou would not seek out his death, but he would not lie to himself and try and convince himself that it was not a possibility. He could live for fear of what may come, or make use of what it would mean for a much larger picture. A glance to the stars above, he could not help but draw a comparison that a single star may burn bright but its the full picture that breaths to its ambiance.

Fiddling with his glasses to regain his composure, he adverts his gaze from those that shine brightest amongst the black. He found it egotistical to compare himself to such a star, for he was finite as they were infinite in their wisdom. The star prompts continued to flood in with each step, small rewards for his attempt but he found them to be an insult. It meant that he had not yet succeeded, watching the waves carefully for what Shoji needed as proof. It wasn't for a gain but to give the kid what all needed in this world and the real one. A proof of those that pass you by and a proof of what could be done, it stood as a boon for past present and future. Until his feet would ache, should he find sleep taking his thoughts he would keep on walking through the seamless sands.

The red wanderer knew his journey was not quite through, for how long would he walk? He came out here for a search for a physical object, or worse a corpse. But somehow he ended up traversing the road that was his own mind. Finding the parading waves of black at his side produced an adequate white noise for him to reflect on himself. He wondered and pondered his own past, looking back upon it with a magnifying lens. This was not the first trip he had made, and surely wouldn't be the last. It seemed that whenever he was in isolation such as this, he began to analyze his own making and how it affected those around him. Perhaps this was why he wandered, not for where it led but for where it had begun and it showed upon him like a stink. He was still so disconnected from his peers.

It no longer held a bearing on his actions, however. Raidou thought intently as a memory of the two that had offered him the strength to traverse this road with his held looking forward instead of down. He truly was the fool, the zero that upon which could change with all but the simplest of phrase. An intellectual mind that assumes that a problem needs a different solution to beget a changed result. An active approach to himself, seeing it no different than a formula that needed a different composition. He'd abuse his malleability as a human being, become what he wished as an ideal self. Each step was one in the right direction, if he was careful of which steps he chose to take. The only thing that remained outside of his purview was the end, he knew what but not the how or why. Why, was always the most difficult to answer.

What would they all say to him if they had no inhibitions, no reluctance to say what they truly felt? He'd not hold ill to what was spoken, he could accept truths without disdain. A flash of tethered red lines creating bonds, that of fate Raidou could feel the links that composed them all. It was as if they were what was supporting him, he'd much rather it be the other way around. It was a debt he'd rather not be responsible for paying dividends, he'd much rather offer that hand free of charge. It would suit him better, being the foundation for them all to flourish. But when the light began to fade while glaring down the King that would have surely claimed his head, an army sought out that line and drew upon it to its source. He had put them all at risk by trying to not do that very thing.

The rush of the waves did not cease, nor did his legs upon the rim of the lake. It offered an anchor while he floated about his own thoughts, keeping the drive to move on while he waded the movement and sways as it shifted from one topic to the next. From Kasumi to Eruda and Hidden to Megitsune and more, he had found links to people more than he had ever. He was unsure how to coup with the fact they were now intertwined here of all places, where at every second a guillotine lingered over their heads threatening to remove it from their shoulders. A disguised one, but it was a truth that most chose to ignore albeit a select few saw through the veil of the beautiful scenery. He would not allow himself to be fooled by the trickster that held up their arms with silver lines.

He could feel himself beginning to tire, taking to a stone to regain his composure. He was hardly finished as what he hunted further eluded him still, opening his inventory for a quick meal to stave off the exhaustion was all he needed. A tinge of the reflected lenses as he shifted through the menus like an orchestrator, through the slight opacity of his HUD. Raidou was not finished and would continue to walk, for Shoji's trophy and memorial for Yori had not yet been found. He would find it, no matter how much his legs burned and tingled or how heavy his arms and eyes would become. He had toppled the king to prove to himself his strength, now this would prove his endurance. How far would he be willing to go, to break the word impossible, and strike it from the vocabulary of those that would speak it?
