A Freyd-shaped impact crater now marred the perfectly blighted beach, featuring one matching, prone, and very soggy Freyd. He made a sticky, suction-like noise as he pulled himself from the ground, extricating his face from whatever slimy goo it was made of, because it certainly wasn't sand. His cowl was wet, and that upset him, because he put so very much effort into keeping it clean and pristine. Sigh. One side of him was soaking wet, and the other side was soaking wet and muddy. He'd have to pester ChaseR for more of those orange dry-cleaning crystals, at this rate, which he didn't relish in the slightest. Sludge still dripping from his body, he wandered away from the beach and soon discovered the ancient ruins and found Shield standing off against some semi-wrinkly, half-naked hag with serious hair issues. Sword instantly in hand, Freyd charged the horrid she-thing trailing great big gobs of mucky gunk such that he looked like some bizarre, spasmic octopus on speed, until he smashed her right across the chest, spinning her a full half turn around and sending her sprawling onto the very stairs she had just descended. One of his limbs flopped awkwardly around as he called to the rest of his group, gesturing to the chained forms of lost souls bound to the woman's throne. Somehow, he remained focused and determined, despite his ridiculous appearance. "Get these soldiers free! Quickly!" I'm proud of you... In what felt like only a moment, Beat snapped back into reality covered in a cold sweat and a half rotten women in front of him. He returned her sneer as he dismissed the mysterious voice he had heard as Hel's. He prepared to charge as Freyd managed to provide a good distraction with a stunning sword art, changing Beat's plans entirely. "Nice job! I'll start freeing the soldiers!" He shouted as he quickly made his way to the four NPCs who appeared to be town guards. They had large glowing chains binding them to Hel's throne and Beat began pulling these chains off of one of the soldiers, finding reasonable success. "Don't worry, we'll get you free!" ChaseR 0 Posted October 6, 2020 #23 Report Share Posted October 6, 2020 (edited) It didn't take long before Chase found exactly where everybody else was- the clanking and clashing of blades, as well as rapid footsteps were enough of a pointer. He guided himself in the dark through the denser than ever fog, finally finding them alongside whatever abhorrent monstrosity that was. He heard Freyd's call and as much as he didn't want to, he knew better than to act like a five year old and pretend he hadn't heard anything. He quickly rushed on over to the soldiers, trying to help them break free. Despite his best efforts though, it would seem he did little to the first of the two, mostly failing to break them out of his shackles. Before Hel could go back to bringing down the roof, he quickly rushed over back to the others, still seeing the soldier he tried so hard to free all chained and tormented behind the beast. He arms wrapped around herself as she held herself tight. There were no whispers - just the roaring sound of water - but - there was no warmth either. No one had fallen in after her to catch her. Dammit, Dammit, Dammit Dammit.... Just as quickly as they had fallen; they landed - fog surrounding the area. Was Mari alone? Separated from the others? "Can you hear me? Mari? Shield? Are you there?" She couldn't see him at first; but several blind steps forward, and she could see a familiar blue visage, Mari reached out with a gentle hand on his shoulder. "I'm Here." She confirmed with her voice, lest @ChaseR think she was some wraith or monster ready to attack him. "Macradon's gone into hiding, he's safe." Mari shifted her eyes to the scene before her, slowly revealing itself. "Dunno where Beat or Freyd are right now though..." Where they safe? Was Beat? He and her didn't exactly have a good track record with falling down holes on the 10th floor. Mari was a little worried that the sensation would bring up negative experiences - it had, well - bought up something with Mari. Be it positive, negative, or both. Before Mari could spiral any further Hel appeared - as did her ...captives. Mari closed her eyes. Deep breath. Don't worry about this, about yourself. Just get this done. Get everyone those shards, and get everyone else out. A plume of heated air fell from her lips as she pulled her spear out and with a deathly precision she rammed it between the chain links. The chains cracked, and began to fall away from the first soldier. Mari wrenched her pole free, the momentum causing her to fall back a few steps, bumping into @Beat "G-Sorry, Beat. We really gotta stop falling over each other." Mari said as she tried to offer him a smile. That's what she'd normally do right? Jokes. Puns. That was normal for her. As soon as she turned away from him her smile faded. She didn't have the strength to keep it up. Besides, right now..they should focus on the battle at hand. Mari straightened herself turning to the others. "Well, that's the first one Free." Her eyes lingered on Chaser. "If we don't free them, they suffer." Came her simple reply as she turned her tired eyes up to Hel. "They say those who cross into He's realm are bound, never to return again. I assume these warriors couldn't pay the toll. Hrmmm...Or am I mixing up my mythologies..." The debris and hull from the ship began to flush ashore and with it the rest of his party. They were quick to rush in and disable Hel, keeping her from shackling down the soldiers by her stead. The knight would chortle and prepare his attack after everyone had begun their skirmish to help as many soldiers as possible, and with that he would take his opportunity to strike. Jumping out from the shadows with extreme momentum from his Charge skill, Macradon rushed in with fierce force and went for a strike with his greatsword, but with all this heavy weight behind him, he couldn’t control his trajectory and instead crashed straight down to the ground with a heavy thump, creating a small crater as if he had fallen from a high distance. “I even had a cool monologue ready for when I hit …” he mumbled to himself while trying to get back up again. “Guess I’ll have to help free those soldiers.” he said and raised himself from the ground. Everyone else has been strikin- He glanced over at Macradon. ATTEMPTING to strike her. I need to make a bit of an impression on her if I'm going to hold threat. He inhaled slowly as he closed the gap between them, his platemail expanding over his chest and ribs as he expanded his lungs to their limit. He reached down, grasping her hair at the scalp and lifting her up by it. "YOUR STOLEN SOULS ARE ABOUT TO GET THEIR REVENGE, YOU HAG!" he roared, the air from his howl sending her reeling backwards as he released his grip. She was lifted momentarily off her feet and plastered against the back of her seat before finally sliding down and slumping limply across its armrests. Satisfied with his work, Shield bounded back into the center of her throne room and awaited her next move. He quickly ran towards the boss that seemed to snap out of it as soon as Shield got its attention on him once more, raising his half-broken blade and quickly slamming it into the monster. For all the damage it dealt and even the slight gash that appeared, nothing really seemed to have changed. It moved all the same and no holy powers made their debut on his side. He quickly jumped back to see that everybody else was about to take their turn with her, looking over to the side at Mari again through the thick fog and offering a small smile. He patted her back as if gesturing her to take her own shot at the boss, noticing Beat only a few steps to the side- they mostly seemed to be here. All of the team, even if he couldn't see them, were definitely there. That was good. They'd effectively regrouped, and Mac must have been present as well, but... in stealth? There wouldn't be time enough for Freyd to reach and help the others free prisoners before she recovered. Instead, he climbed the ruined dais, his feet schlorping as the sticky goo that still covered most of his front kept oozing downwards and attempting to adhere him permanently to the floor. Samael's Pride glowed brighter the longer he lingered near the fetid hag, as if it longed both to strike her down and end her suffering, but could not decide which should take precedence. She shook her head, clearing the inflicted daze, and her eyes focused on their stalwart tank. Freyd had meanwhile moved to flank. When she lashed out the glowing tarnished blade came down - hard. The blow had nearly severed her arm from her shoulder and was enough to merit a threatening hiss as she swatted in his direction to force him back. Mari said with a sigh as she looked at the other two ethereal spirits, each wailing and clawing at the chains that weighed them down. It was a sad sight to see, but - for now, she'd have to set her sights on Hel. Without the crazy behemoth of a woman distracted there'd be no way to save them. "Soo, we just gonna wail on the lady till she needs to heal right?" Mari asked for confirmation, not that she needed it - the plan was clear. And the group of people worked surprisingly well together. Perhaps it was because Mari and Macradon worked so well in a pair, as well as Shield and Beat. The only outliers were Freyd and Chaser - Mari had worked with both of them in the past, and both had been....successful. But Mari didn't know either one of them well enough to gauge how thy truly were in battle. She just knew to be wary of Freyd. And that Chaser saw her as a motherly figure. Although she couldn't fathom why. Mari decided that could wait, what mattered now was the attack - She activated her Imperial Southern Cross and tried to swipe at the woman, but one of the wailing soldiers grabbed her ankle, pulling her down to the ground as it begged for help. Macradon 0 Posted October 6, 2020 #30 Report Share Posted October 6, 2020 Even after getting up and ready to help release the shackled soldiers, Macradon looked around and saw that part of the fight already passed by, they were back at fighting again. “Oh … so let’s just attack I guess …” he said and got into stance. Everyone went in with blows after the other, Macradon waited to see if any Paralyzation procs would commence, but alas it did not. “Yeah, it’s fighting time.” he said and began his forward march. Shield had howled at the underworld Goddess while ChaseR and Freyd both landed solid hits, right after Macradon would come, then followed by Beat. If they could both get some nice damage procs off, they would be able to bring her down to half health or even lower, which would be a great step towards clearing the boss. Quickly leaping forward, Macradon activated his Galaxy Destroyer sword art and leapt up into the air to gain as much downwards momentum he could. Spinning parallel to the ground he cleaved into Hel as his sword’s bright holy white light shined as his Holy proc activated. With his fell swoop he dealt a good chunk of damage, leaving only a bit left before they would reach the yellow zone. “She’s getting pretty close to yellow, go for it, @Beat!” the knight called out while recovering from his sword art. With damage being relatively moot until the soldiers were released, she simply needed to be stunned so that she wouldn't be able to protect her captive soldiers. The thought of swapping to his stun weapon occurred to him, but with her health where it was at and his estimate of her mitigation, he figured damage would force her past half and effectively stun her by forcing her to heal. Simple enough and if we're lucky, we can get both of them in one attempt. "Alright guys, get ready to make for those soldiers! I'm pushing her past fifty percent!" He shouted, before running forward and peppering the goddess of Hel with a flurry of strikes, his form moving in a blur between each blow. Her eyes, once beautiful and bright, lit up with an eerie blue light, as did the air around her. A barrier of light shone around her, surrounding her in healing light as her health bar was restored to full. However, it seemed that she had set into motion a long process of recovery that she had no power to stop early, despite her health bar already being full. "So this is why it's such an opportune time to act!" he marveled, impressed by the visuals and how unearthly they were. The power she exuded sent her hair afflurry, kicked up the hems of her robes, and sent pulses through the air. "Well, now seems like a great time to get in some work on those chains!" As he bounded across the stone floor, he swung his blade again and launched another ball of red light to Beat. His Sharpness skill tracked on its target, arcing through the air until it met Beat's form. Freyd 0 Posted October 7, 2020 #33 Report Share Posted October 7, 2020 Acting upon Shield's worlds, their thoughts aligned, Freyd races to the nearest soldier and starts working on smashing the various bits and bobs binding him to the throne. A few weaker points were obvious, where corrosion from exposure to sea air and perhaps also Hel's decrepit nature had weakened the metal. Striking repeatedly, as if his sword were some kind of blacksmith's hammer, Freyd managed to break a few more links. The team seemed to be working quite effectively, which was remarkable considering that they essentially amounted to a pick up group. At this rate, Hel would be down in no time at all. "This loop's broke," he said to @Beat, urging him towards another set of chains. "One more rotation should do the trick. You've got a mean strike with that thing," Freyd added, nodding towards the man's weapon. "I'm glad to have gotten in with a group that knows their stuff." Normally when he quested, it was only him and Shield, which meant that the compliments he received were normally limited to 'nice job' and 'well done', but nothing specific like the one he had just received. It was validating to hear the compliment coming from a fellow damage dealer. I guess it isn't the first, Baldur isn't withholding compliments after all... Beat continued to work on the icy cold chains that bound the soldier, who seemed to be coming to his senses more as more chains were removed. He glanced to Freyd and decided to return the compliment, "Thanks, you're not so bad yourself. It's good to run with a group that can coordinate without too much effort." Mari thread the spear through one of the chains that held down the second Soldier, With a taught rip she managed to pull some of them free. She took a few steps back, bumping into Chaser. "PHew." "You did good." Mari said to @ChaseR as she reached out and gave him a small pat on the head. Mari heard @Beat clear his throat, shuffling closer to her. Mari gave him a curious look. Did he... "I uh..." Mari had to stand on her tip-toes to reach up to him, she rested her hand on the mess of dark hair. "Did you want one too?" Mari offered Beat a small, weak, smile. "I can't really say no to you if you give me that look." "Are you giving out pats!?" @Macradon now. Mari snorted. Here she thought that people didn't want anything to do with her. The attention...kinda made her give a genuine smile, as tired as it was. "Mac..." Mari said, exasperated. "Of course you'd get some." Mari ruffled Macradon's hair. She glanced over at Freyd, then Shield. Mmmmm... Maybe it would be best if she didn't offer them the same. Shield might still be mad at her, and Freyd...didn't seem like the type who'd want that sort of interaction, then again- Mari would have thought that Beat wouldn't want that either. Chaser and Mac? Macradon 0 Posted October 7, 2020 #36 Report Share Posted October 7, 2020 He smiled, lifting a clenched fist up into the air in glee as the party got Hel down into the yellow zone. “Yessssss!” he exclaimed when he looked over at Mari with a smile … and saw something he wasn’t prepared to see, at least not in this context. Mari had been going around and giving out headpats to the party … felt a bit weird to have it come out of nowhere, perhaps some kind of inside joke he wasn’t in? “Are you giving out head pats?” he asked, curious as if any explanation would come out of his question, but there didn’t, only a head pat, which was sufficient for him. He chortled and nodded his head “Aight, this’ll work.” he said and waddled off again. While the giant Æsir on the throne spent all of her time getting her health back up from the wreckage the party had dealt to her, Macradon rushed up to the 2 soldiers left and easily freed one of ‘em from his shackles “I know how bad these feels, you shouldn’t have to be shackled like this, now go!” he said and pseudo-escorted the soldier off to the side for him to flee the area. ChaseR 0 Posted October 7, 2020 #37 Report Share Posted October 7, 2020 Now that he had gotten patted on the head, Chase had all the motivation he needed to go free the final soldier. He rushed in to where he had located them before, looking over only to see Mac appear out of nowhere and help one of the two left break free. That only left a single soul getting tormented. Chase raised his broken blade in the air and slammed it down onto the chains keeping him shackled, damaging them but not taking them out in full. Whatever the case, Hel appeared to be ready to throw another attack their way- or Shield's? He wasn't sure if she'd even attacked through this damn fog, which was making it all too hard to see. He rushed back to the group as he did and ran into Mari, squeaking and laughing awkwardly. "S-Sorry, heh. Can't see well.", he quickly apologised and turned back, able to tell apart the forms of all the team members here and there. The only person that was truly out of sight was Shield, for the most part. Everybody else, except Mac, he had visual on. Mac was clearly there though, they met when freeing the soldiers. The ambient haze and light from her heal were beginning to die down, leaving the throne room as it had been, only with two fewer soldiers. Shield continued to wrench at the spot where the chain was anchored, prying with his sword as hard as he could. All the while, the bolts that were mounted into the marble seemed to be loosening, but as much as he had forced them to wiggle, they were not yet ready to give up purchase on the throne. Hel turned her devious and sinister eyes on Shield, holding her hands out to the side and fanning her fingers. Her delicate-seeming fingers were now clawlike, and with a sudden jerk, she thrust them forward into his chest. He had taken harder hits, but most of them from floor bosses and the like. She was thin and shapely, but there was a strength and precision behind her attack. Over a long period of time, Shield had no doubt that she could eventually reduce him to nothing. However, that was not going to happen here today. Even as she attacked, her hands and forearms lit up with bright orange, angry marks that stood out painfully on her pale skin, and she shrank back, nursing her scratched and burned hands. By now, his hands would start bleeding in the real world. He gritted his teeth tightly and felt his entire body tensing up, heaving and running right towards the boss, who attacked Shield relentlessly. White wisps began to form around his blade, however they dissipated shortly after- his sword's holy aspect didn't appear ready to kick in quite yet. However, the white lightning started to appear out of the broken blade. As soon as it clashed with Hel, it began to course up her body and ultimately shocked her, leaving her paralyzed. He continued to slash at her until the lightning effect from his blade wore off, taking a few steps back and giving everybody the clear to free the last of the three soldiers that was left, with the chains almost ready to break. "Go free him and then let's take her down!", he shouted with excitement all over his face, an intense glare and at the same time confident, yet timid smile marking his expression. This was a rush he'd never felt before, and... there was little proving he didn't enjoy it. The rush of being in danger alongside others and fighting with everything they had... While definitely odd, this was a hell of a way to bond with these three strangers, alongside... him and Mari. What an odd world Aincrad really was. Spoiler ChaseR uses Galaxy Destroyer on Hel! Macradon 0 Posted October 7, 2020 #40 Report Share Posted October 7, 2020 The Goddess of the Æsir underground finally stopped her healing and looked back down at the party with her ferocious zombie-like features, at least half of her looks were like that. She lashed out at their tank with her giant … whatever she attacked with, Macradon wasn’t too sure, but he would just let it happen, Shield was more than capable of actually taking care of it. In the meantime, Macradon would team up and get in for the attack … until ChaseR went in and got a pivoting paralysis proc as he struck the wicked witch. “On it!” he called out to the rest of his party as he rushed up to the remaining soldier ChaseR had already somewhat freed with a strike at the chains. Breaking the chains with one last strike and he would wave the soldier off to the side with the rest “You’re free, you can go!” he exclaimed and maintained a wall between the refugees and Hel, just in case she was gonna turn to some pursuit for her not-so-shackled soldiers.
