Ah, so there's more after all. "... Why is everything in here massive..?", Chase grumbled under his breath with crossed arms, signalling Mari to follow right behind... and everyone else too, I suppose. Not that he was familiar enough, but anyways... Wherever they were headed, it'd probably be the final boss of the dungeon. No way that an NPC this massive wanted their help and couldn't do it on his own, after all. "Do you feel like going on another quest later, Mari?", he asked her while they walked behind Shield and Odin. Thankfully, the fog had began to dither and let them see much better than before, which was a pleasant change. Especially over walking around, bumping into others or running into a sword like they'd managed if the fight dragged on much longer. "Cause I've a few in mind?" EN Recovery - 2/2 Full EN. "Well, we have somehow ended up in the realm of gods. It's not surprising that they'd be depicted as taller than us." Mari followed along with Shield, Chaser and Macradon - who were leading the groups stead into the light. She wasn't too sure about blindly following some pantheon - but - she'd done worse, so Mari could not be the one to interject. Her eyes shifted over to Beat, and lingered on him. Yeh...she had done worse. Jumping into voids and risking the lives of others. Still, despite it all - the man seemed healthy, and well. Mari smiled. "Ma?" "H-Huh?" Mari turned back to Chaser. "Oh." What was he saying to her? Mari pursed her lips, eyes searching Chasers - "Ah. Quests.Right." She rubbed her eyes. Mari was tired, but she couldn't say no to him, could she? Viking legends were replete with such turns, and he'd not let them come to pass. The trick was to not look like you were constantly on edge, despite being constantly on edge. It was a tricky balancing act, but one with which he was well-accustomed. Samael's Pride rested on his shoulder, too long to drag in hand or rest in a scabbard. He preferred the tarnished blade be ready at a moment's notice. His ears were focused on the exchanges between Odin and the rest of the party, but Freyd's eyes were already looking for convenient blinds, alternate angles of attacks and viable choke points to contain or decimate the enemy. It was his role and his strength to be ready and seek out those opportunities. Something also told him that if he found them, this group would have no trouble capitalizing on potential advantages. Beat 0 Posted October 9, 2020 #64 Report Share Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) Out of combat recovery 1/2 Beat's fingers danced in the air for a moment before a small bento box appeared in his free hand. He pulled the black chopsticks from the box and began eating as he watched his energy bar slowly refill. He liked to imagine each bite as a certain amount of energy and tried to time bites with a tick up on his energy. The bento itself was rather small, but had a helping of cooked spinach, a small portion of tonkastudon and a small portion of mixed berries. It was a light snack with plenty of energy packed into a small container. Beat's eyes scanned the group as they recovered, he eyes meeting @Mari's at one point. The gaze lock they held made his stomach tense somewhat before he gave her a bright smile. Something about her always made him want to smile and pass on some of his cheer to her. She doubted he knew the troubles that swirled around his thoughts, he seemed far too in his element here - even going as far as to pull out a bento box and eating it - getting crumbs over the lower half of his face. Mari pointed to her chin and tapped it. Did he not notice? She was trying to be discreet about it. ...He did not notice. Beat simply gave her a wide grin in return. "Oh for the love of -" Mari left Chasers side, weaving between Freyd and Macradon as she approached Beat. "There." She pointed to her chin then his own. She shook her head. "No look,you got panko crumbs all over your chin." She chastised as Mari reached up and dusted them off of him. "That's better." Mari said as she took a step back from him wiping her own hands on her scarf. "I feel like I shoulda bought something like that myself - but I wouldn't have enough for everyone - and uh...I don' really have access to food like that." Mari rubbed her tired eyes. He normally didn't bother wiping his face off until after he was finished, but this woman clearly had a problem with it. Oddly, Beat didn't seem to mind her doting over him as he continued to take bites around her arm. He took his time chewing and swallowed before replying to her, "I doubt it. Most players carry plenty of standard rations. The cooking profession just leaves you with a lot of extra food, so I make things I enjoy." She looks tired, I think a pick me up is in order! Beat finished his bento and dismissed the trash back into his inventory before a small thermos of soup appeared in his hand. He grinned and held it out to her, "Here, this soup is good and should wake you up a bit. It has a little bit of a kick to it, but it's not too spicy." As the party socialized, the threat of the enemy ahead loomed. At the least, Freyd seemed to at least be cognizant of the goings on around them, and Shield was sure Macradon was nearby in the shadows. Still, Shield figured it was time to bring everyone back to task. "Look alive, everyone," he said, clearing his throat a little. "We're about to have the Allfather let Allhell break loose." He tossed an extra little bit of damage to Beat before looking over to Odin and giving a slight nod. "We will do this, but we will not accept your gracious offer for help," he said, slapping his sword against the face of his shield with a dull bang of muted metal on metal. "Let's do this." With a knowing nod, Odin complied, lifting a hand and snapping his fingers. In the same instant both he and the ribbon that held Fenrir in place vanished, and in the vast cavern, lights sprang to life. There actually was access to the sky, but it was clouded over and gloomy, lost in the distant ceiling. Stationary floating lights illuminated the darkness, swallowing the shadows and revealing how truly expansive their battlefield was. Macradon kept his profile low, hiding in what little shadow he had to work with to keep himself obscured and out of direct sight. He would take in a deep breath before making way towards Fenrir, it didn’t seem like anyone was giving signal, so Macradon would just have to assume when everyone was in position. “Here we go, bud.” he said to Belphegor as he drew his sword. The light sheen of his blade was hard to keep hidden, but keeping it low to the ground helped. Jumping out from the shadows, the Imperial Topaz made his move. Striking with fierce force from seemingly nowhere for Fenrir to see, Macradon cleaved a good cut into the hulking monstrosity of a wolf. "I was thinking we could go do the one with the Fossil Fish. Something about Halibut- it's tough so I'll need a strong attacker for it, and I know you're the strongest player in my friend list, so...", he admitted with a childish glee in his eyes, laughing awkwardly and scratching the back of his head, having secluded anybody that's not the orange he was talking to from his mind. "Unless you had something else in mind?" Seclusion of others and all was good, except that also included Odin who was guiding them right to Fenrir- and they chose not to take him along either. He quickly realised what danger they were in, watching Fenrir prepare to attack them, accompanied by two more monsters- they'd probably only serve to bolster his attacks. With Mac going at it out of stealth, he quickly followed suit and used a Galaxy Destroyer of his own with his new blade, hitting even if it was for rather little damage. "Ma, let's arrange the details later.", he told her with a huff, feeling endangered by the boss. Even if it couldn't hit him and he wasn't the one tanking, at least right now, it felt unnerving... It was loose on the streets of the mythical city above. His analytical mind instantly mapped out a route to reach the opening. Darting across and up the cavern walls, moving from ledge to ledge, Freyd ultimately made his way up and barreled through the newly-made opening with a wild acrobatic jump, skidding to a stop mere feet away from Fenrir's tail. Coming out of his roll and ready to strike, the giant canine must have sensed his presence and kicked blindly at him, forcing him to tumble forward to avoid the blow. Such a nice setup...wasted. Regaining his footing Freyd called out a warning and suggestion to his fellows. "He's got sharp senses. What say we overload them a bit and turn an advantage into the opposite?" How was she supposed to eat this? They were in a brief reprise before the next battle. "Thank you...Beat." Mari said, not used to gifts. "I'll be sure to eat it later. When I'm needing it most." She clutched it tightly, giving the thermos a small hug before putting it away in her inventory. "That means a lot to me." She added with a smile. Her eyes drifted over to Chaser; a quest involving fish? Well, that sounded like it wasn't on a volcano floor. "Sure." Mari offered Chaser a smile, followed by a small hand on his shoulder. "This is Beat. He's a friend of mine." Mari introduced the two - but the introduction was cut short with the appearance of Fenrir -a large wolf-like creature with bristling fur and chains wrapped around his legs. Definitely wasn't enough time to eat any sort of soup. Watching as the large wolf emerged, Beat remembered the plan and held back the instinct to activate his charge skill and simply maneuvered around the chunks of rock and ice, making his way towards the beast. It snarled as he approached, releasing a chilling roar that pushed against him as he continued to close the distance between them. "Now now, we can't have a dog that barks like that! Bad dog!" Beat shouted before unleashing his sword art. His form luminesced as fifteen spears seemed to strike out at the frost wielding canine, each one striking unerringly and with thunderous force and each one chipping away at the beast's impressive health pool. Beat's brow furrowed as the attack expired and the canine's angry glare focused on him in a way that told the young player that he would need more than that to bring him down. He watched as hits were dealt and the foe began to rage, climbing up and out to begin his terrorizing of the streets of Asgard. Shield swore under his breath. The speedy DPS players would be able to climb the walls no problem, but this was not his forte. He found hand holds and began to climb, heaving himself up to the furthest point he could and jamming his sword into the wall. He clambered up onto it, standing on the crossguard as the blade bowed slightly. He leaped as high as he could. The sword was dismissed and he summoned it again to his hand, repeating this process as quickly as he could to follow suit. As he climbed, he prepared himself mentally. There was going to come a point very soon where he would be taking hits from that monstrosity. He needed to be prepared to parry that attack when it came. "I'm coming! We're going to need to spread out damage a little! I'm going to need to be fresh and prepared once Ragnarok hits" Topside, Fenrir was already beginning to be annoyed by the attacks that had come its way. It turned its eyes on chase, anger flaring in its eyes. It reared up on its hind legs and balled up its front paw and back-handed the young player, sending him back and knocking him off his feet. From the sides, Hati and Skoll rushed in, baring their fangs. Hati gripped an arm, while Skoll got hold of a leg, and they sank their canines into the limbs, pulling as if trying to tear him in half. Shield had not caught up enough to see, but his HUD showed him the damage dealt to Chase. He growled and doubled his pace, rushing to catch up to the action. "Hold on! I'm coming!" Fenrir's brutal assault had left his ally barely a smidge above a red bar. It was the closest Freyd had seen anyone come to actually getting into the red. Sparing a glance at Mari, he renewed his attacks against the immense wolf. There were other better healers in the group. His role was damage output and he was already behind thanks to that unexpected swat. "Someone get that overgrown mutt off Chase!" A brutal slash to the beast's left hind leg was enough to momentarily stagger as it regained its footing, but nowhere near enough to stun, distract or take it down. Eying the group's health bars, he hoped that someone else would get there in time, or that the boy's luck would improve. Grabbing hold of Fenrir's tail, Freyd flipped himself upward in much the same manner as he had escape the cave prison below. Grasping a stray tuft of coarse black fur, he held on for dear life as the gigantic thing swung him around roughly. He took off towards the beasts as he shouted towards his partner. "You take aggro, I'll get them away from him if I can!" Beat dug his feet into the ground as hard as he could as he filled his weapon with his strongest sword art, his teeth gritted as he continued to stare at Chase's nearly depleted health bar. He leaped into the air as he reached Fenrir, unleashing his sword art with everything he had, hoping for a critical strike. The multitude of strike landed true, but the dark aura imbue to his spear from his pendant never flares and no golden holy light shimmered from the attack. "Damn!" Beat growled as he finished his assault, managing to draw the gaze of the beast again. She asked, skidding over to him. "Your health is low...and that looked like it hurt." She sounded concerned. Even with that concern she couldn't help but add in a pun. "That wasn't very paw-some. Was it." Mari gave Chaser a reassuring pat on the shoulder. She wasn't sure who had more hate right now - but she hoped that this time, he wouldn't get hit too hard. If he hadn't healed by the next round... Mari drew in a deep breath. "IF you haven't healed by the next round I'll take care of your health, so please dont worry. Mama Mari has your back." To save Shield as many resources as possible, any of the tank capable fighters in the party should try to lure in the attacks, and unfortunately that fate was laid upon ChaseR. Not only did Fenrir go on the offensive, so did his sons. The trio attacked the young man, dealing a significant amount of damage in three hefty chunks. “Shit. I should’ve been the one to take that …” he mumbled and tried to shake it off his mind. The fight was still going and they had to continue their pressure. Everyone kept wailing on the beast, Fenrir would take all the damage as his sons were untouchable, only there to attack when their father would land a successful hit. Macradon rushed up again and like the many other greatsword wielders at the fight unleashed his Galaxy Destroyer sword art, dealing an adequate amount of damage to the giant wolf. ChaseR 0 Posted October 11, 2020 #78 Report Share Posted October 11, 2020 (edited) As soon as he got hit by Fenrir, he felt a fair amount of fear rush right through his body, almost like a wave crashing on top of him. His health dropped faster than he'd ever seen it drop, and he didn't even expect to be the one to take the hit this time- he thought Shield would, like he had on every other boss. He wasn't prepared for this, if anything. He began to breathe heavily, looking to the side as he heard his name. It was Mari, relaxing him with her horrible puns and reassuring him. Right... She was still there. With a deep breath and a tired smile, he gave her a nod and braced himself to attack once more, counting on Shield taking the monster's aggro for this turn. He quickly ran in and slashed at Fenrir, watching Hati and Skol prepare to lock onto some other target- who though? It was hard to tell and right now, his adrenaline didn't let him focus at all. It took Shield longer than he would have liked to crawl up out of the depths, and he did so just in time to see Fenrir's health drop into the yellow. "Show time came early," he said to himself. He could see Chase now, continuing to press the attack. It took bravery and trust to keep up the pressure even when tanking a hit like that. He would have to make a point to commend him and apologize later. That was no small task and one that was meant for another player, not him. Asgard was in ruins. The massive wolves had run amok while swinging wildly at players. Their paws had left craters and fallen buildings left and right. Dust and smoke from the homely hearths poured out of the newly collapsed ruins. The attackers of the party skipped among the chaos, keeping out of reach of those deadly paws and jaws. Shield stood back and filled his lungs, focusing his dark eyes on Fenrir. "HEY FUR BALL! LEAVE THE KID ALONE AND PICK ON SOMEONE A LITTLE CLOSER TO YOUR SIZE!" The wind from his voice rushed in a cone that struck Fenrir, upsetting his fur. The beast's ears perked up, but the head did not turn. Its eyes were focused skyward. Rearing up on its hind legs, it gaped its mouth, lunged up, and with one snap of its jaws, the world went dark. Flames erupted from the wolf, and all at once it was the sun itself, casting dancing light across the ruined cityscape and refilling its health gauge. Clenching its chain-bounded body, Fenrir consumed the moon and entered his Ragnarok phase. Its health shot back up to full, neatly green to represent how healthy it was. Its visuals changed as well, its fur growing thicker, its body growing with its power, the fight was only getting started, and they’ve barely hit the halfway mark. While distracted by the moon consumption, Macradon would try to get in an attack, but it was futile. On his way up to the digesting wolf he tripped on some of the rubble on the ground, making him lose his footing and stagger to the side, losing the opportunity to get an attack launched in proper range. He would click his tongue and scowl at himself “Sorry … got out of balance …” he said, not too loud, but still loud enough to be audible.
