[Special Dungeon - PP] Valhaulin' Ass

Recommended Posts

Struggling to keep her wits about her, a faint recollection of a past affair drawing through his mind like an echo in a long cave. He had been here before, and the flickering memory served to remind him of such. A twist of his handle and a drop of a near ton blade upon a held taught chain causes the soldier attached to gag and slide on his back toward her throne.

The chair buckles as the hand rest he was anchored cracks. The witch adorned and shutters and shakes her head, attempting to reclaim her clarity. A thick pulse in red, a finger pressed to lenses on his brow, and an intense stare. With it only one response without his attentions shifting, a placid deadpan that was locked on the hostile mob. "Gimps?" the context eluded him as did the phrase itself. Not being hip enough to understand what it was they were referring to, his gaze locked to Hel and perhaps choosing his focus over the principle of learning a new term.

Jailer of the Damned [Passive] - Hel begins the battle with three spectral soldiers - spirits that belong in Valhalla - chained up around her throne. So long as one soldier is bound, Hel will restore herself to full health upon reaching 50% or lower as a post action. Hel cannot be defeated so long as there are any bound soldiers.
To Valhalla - To free the soldiers, Players must distract Hel by forcing her to heal herself or by applying a disabling effect (stun, paralysis, freeze). Then, while distracted, they must roll a collective LD of 40 in order to free a soldier. After all soldiers are freed, Hel can no longer heal herself.

--Maybe she wasn't a complete hack as she'd originally made herself out to be.

The instant Hel freed herself from the stun, the shriek she let out was but nerve wrecking, the field before them shuddering just as she reinforced her dominance upon the wasteland. And so too did the chains upon the soldiers happen to reinforce themselves with a familiar darkness -- one that NIGHT could track ownership back to the boss. With a boost, she tossed herself from the rock of the captive, executioner reforming in her hands. As soon as her feet hit the ground, the player took off running, glossy eyes narrowing with the smear of black tracing across air at the shift of her arm.

Nothing. Jack seemed to be resting still.

A hiss, as NIGHT bounced backwards -- with that blast from earlier, there was still that timer underneath the daemon's health bar, indication an immunity of sorts. No way Tempest would be able to hold the creature in place, and her sword still sleeping was going to be of no help to their disposition, either.

Oscar would not abide this harlot's existence any longer. If his mom groups on Facebook found out that he had stumbled upon this den of perversion and didn't do anything about it, they would cancel him on all of his social media, including Twitter. Oscar couldn't afford to be Twitter canceled. So, he rushed in and followed up Night's attack with one of his own. Tesseleth's Fury carved a dark arc through the air. Then, it sliced a deep red gash across the center of the boss's model. Then, he hopped back a few paces to leave room for his party's follow-up attack. Bahr liked to go balls deep and Oscar wasn't about to get caught up the whatever anime protagonist move the man brought to the table next. And then there was Freyd. Honestly, he had similar concerns about what Freyd would do. It was almost like they were living in an anime or something.

Seeing the giant semi-rotting goddess recover, and with the prisoner before him freed, Freyd rushed to join the fray against her.  As he was just about to launch himself against her, something grabbed his hand and shook it vigorously, offering gibbering thanks while sobbing in a rather un-viking-like manner.  The snot oozing through his beard seemed blatantly gratuitous and more than a little disgusting.

"Yeah!  Great!  Awesome!  LET THE FUCK GO, DUDE!"

Yanking his arm free, Freyd caught a glimpse of the spirit's dispersal as he spun and sprawled to the mucky floor at the big wench's feet.  Friction from his face against the ground had slowed his skid to a stop in the most awkward and inconvenient of places.

"Ugh..."  the sound of spitting followed, "Hel!  Who does your nails?  You really need a pedicure!"

Her leg jerked out in response to the insult, forcing him to roll and barely avoid it.  Picking himself up, Freyd couldn't shake the memory that he had fought this woman three times and ended up covered in underworld sludge on each and every occasion.  Great big gobs of ectoplasmic goo dripped from his elbows and down the nape of his cowl, landing on the bridge of his nose before trailing down a rather unimpressed set of purse lips.

"Let's try that again."

"Yo. Legit question. What the fuck is happening here?"

Each individual member of the party (save for NIGHT) was acting like they were high on a mixture of cocaine and battery acid. Surely, whatever was happening here was bad, both for the mind and the soul.

"Are you... Are you guys okay?"

It was half question, half statement. The absurdity had reached a level that seemingly barred meaningful interactions between the participants of the raid. Were they to continue down this route, Bahr felt they risked turning into actual memes before the fight was over. Which, if it were to reach that point, Bahr hoped they would at least be a good meme. Something that would stand the test of time. The Good Guy Greg of Sword Art Online memes. If such a thing were possible, that is.

Though, he knew in the back of his mind that nothing would ever outpace the legacy of boars.

With Hel so riddled with insecurity, her attentions shifting aimlessly about the field in search of a target. Tapping his chest and tussling his glasses the nomad remarks "I am right here, take your best shot." With a wave of her hand energy in violet akin to floor 22's witch. A caster. Letting forth a witch bolt of higher gravity it flows and weaves through the air in a sporadic jerk and twist. His eyes locked to the culprit, Raidou spins up Ebon Star. "Batter up." he comments shifting and slamming the trail with the black metal. It recoils and slams into the stonework behind her throne. Lifting his left index as he places the dull sword upon his right shoulder, leaning it there. "No no, not in my house." spoken as her face contorts and her vision becomes blurry, wagging that finger as a taunt and as a way to break her spirit. "Save the gimps!" he speaks outward to the group, coining the term without any idea what the hell it meant.

it's funny how the moment ren steps in a hypnotic state, a flow that pulls her under to rest, that the world around her comes alive and wrings fate to be directed her way. jack knows to play his part just as NIGHT struggles to hold herself aloft, sleepy lids adrift in a flutter. and whilst cardinal, the auteure may not be amused--

--the singe of a startling blast released from her blade was just enough to knock Hel off her feet, the woman sending the other flying through air with a rapid jolt of electric pulsing through her figure. A huff, just as NIGHT re-positioned herself for another strike in the future, giving her executioner a good glance, one unknowing yet faithful in the weapon's capabilities. Her party had little left to work on with the chains, if their strengths were anything to go by -- the bit of time she'd bought for them to tear the heat off the rescue team was but the best she could offer to aid in their efforts.

Spotting NIGHT's flash of inspiration, Freyd was already rushing towards the next nearest warrior.  His boots splashed loudly in the soggy muck all over the ground, giving him an idea.

"Sorry about this, pal, but time is of the essence."

Sliding, feet-first, into the wide-eyed warrior, Freyd used his target's full weight to advantage in freeing him.  Unfortunately, his was a dual role as both saviour and assailant as his boots slid right into the poor man's cod piece.  Momentum pushed them both back bringing the chains up and taut as pleading turned to howls of pain.  An upward pivot and trailing slice severed the chains with a clean cut as Freyd flipped over the now-cursing viking, pirouetting in the air to land softly on his feet beyond.  He spared a moment to give the bitter and darkly glaring grunt a little wave just as he burst into a cloud of motes.

"Last one!  Bahr or Oscar, quickly before she recovers!"

Building new momentum, Freyd was already rushing towards the twitching Hel-bitch, sword ready to cleave into her as he passed.

With their mistress distracted by having her spine shattered by Night's attack, the rest of the party busied themselves on freeing the rest of the chained soldiers. To be completely honest, Oscar didn't know exactly how it affected the battle. All he knew was that when she was stunned or paralyzed, the chains on the soldiers became interactable. Obvious mechanics being obvious, clearly the thing to do was to try and get the remaining pair freed before the paralysis wore off. Freyd had freed one, so Oscar trotted over to the remaining one and started fiddling with the locks. He managed to get most of them undone, but the final lock remained absolutely obstinate. Oscar scowled and tossed the lock down in frustration, stepping away and gesturing to @Bahr. "I can't get the damn thing open man. Give it a shot real quick, will you?"

"I can't get the damn thing open man. Give it a shot real quick, will you?"

Had memeification really paved the way for Oscar to inquire assistance from a mere mortal like Bahr? Say it wasn't so.

He obliged silently, tapping the chain with Dawn's Demise and watching as it disintegrated into countless polygonal shards and wafted away no unlike the dandruff from an American otaku. "That oughtta do it," he remarked most unceremoniously, almost as though the writer wasn't sure what more to add. Weird how that happens sometimes.

With the chain destroyed and the submissive gimp relinquished from his demon dominatrix's hellish grasp, the swordsman's dual-toned eyes refocused on the enemy of the group. There she stood - or hovered, rather - dumb face agape with what almost looked to be genuine surprise that the warriors had managed to dismantle her BDSM party. "Come now," Bahr challenged, "You can't honestly expect us to believe that you've done the punishing all your life. Nobody develops a habit quite like this if they've always been in control."

Looking on as the last chain shatters, Raidou smiles slightly as he reaches into his pocket. Ripping off the other black lenses and replacing them with a pair in cobalt blue. It was a signal to the woman's demise if there ever was one. It meant that her immortality was gone, he no longer needed to set up and prepare to remove it from her. A failure in her defenses meant that she was wide open and now with her health dwindling hardly above half she was ripe for the picking. "I think your about to get yours, apologies." Raidou quipped as he tucked the other pair of glasses away and righted his grip, knowing full well the taunt may not be well received and it was hard enough protecting one pair let alone two. Ebon star swells with intentions should he need them, a faint red glow as it hungered and wished to protect its owner.

There is a saying that insanity is performing the same set of actions over and over again. By the heavens, if that had not been the answer behind NIGHT's fury behind the strike she set upon Hel, then it must've been Jack's anger, silently steaming inside the steel that locked it so. Perhaps, just like its owner, it was frustrated at the amount of times they'd had to face off against these sets of tribulations.

And what for? The outcome would not have differed. In all aspects, the party of players would emerge victorious once again. That splashing ripple of shadows was proof enough of her strength, as tar burst forth through the ether, the executioner looking forward to slaking its thirst for vengeance and resolution. Another blow steal away Hel's urgency for action, and another bite into the boss' health bar, further pushing the fight closer and closer to its end.

NIGHT couldn't wait for it to be over.

Finally, a chance to sink his blade into something with health that could be depleted.  Breaking chains had quickly lost its appeal, and he'd been dancing around this undead chick's throne for too long.  Everyone had done their part and the spirits protecting the underworld's queen were freed from torment, for this instance at least.  It was all they needed or had time to care about.

'No fancy moves this time,' Freyd told himself.  'Just make it a straight up run and chop her to tiny bitses.'  Still covered in sludge and pumping his legs to little effect in , he glanced around for other options and spotted the shattered chains still linked to her throne.

"Good enough."

Yanking on the nearest one, he garnered enough momentum to propel himself forward, memories of forces skating lessons imposed by his parents flashed before his eyes.  Humming the theme to Hockey Night in Canada, he swiftly closed the distance with his sword held in front of him, ready to give this bitch the cross-check of a lifetime.

Now that the chains were broken, the goon squad could get back to what they did best: curbstomping this psycho bitch into the ground with extreme prejudice. Freyd and NIGHT paved the way for Oscar to get his licks in. Considering her penchant for dominance, Oscar thought the sudden reversal of fortune was ironic. He strode forward confidently, dragging Tesseleth's Fury along the ground as ominously as he could. Which - as it turned out - was quite so. A goliath of a man dressed in a suit walking toward you with a wicked-looking axe dragging along behind him? Yeah, pretty spooky. Another reversal on what was supposed to be a Halloween-themed dungeon. Was the larger message here that the Players were the real monsters? Probably. Oscar didn't register that thought, though. Instead, he carved a deep gash into Hel's side punctuated with a streak of black fire.

Hoping to motivate Shannon to move a little bit quicker, John got up from waiting at the kitchen table, went outside, and sat down in the car. There was no particular time that they needed to be at Shannon's parents' house, but they had mutually decided on what was "now" about forty-five minutes ago, and John had been lingering in this antsy, anticipatory mood while he waited for Shannon to be ready. He now sat in the car, alternating through different VR apps, exhausting all recently available short form content and other relevant updates that didn't require his full attention, or much time.

After about ten more minutes, passed, he went back inside to see what was going on. He found Shannon in the kitchen, eating a snack.

"Are you serious?" John asked, "What are you doing? Let's go!"

"I just needed a minute,"
Shannon replied.

"Alright, well, are you good now?" John asked?

"Yeah," Shannon let out with a ring of annoyed indifference.

During the initial part of the car ride, John acted pissy toward Shannon, exhibiting some weird hybrid of both passive and active aggressiveness. Shannon knew he was frustrated about running late, and they briefly squabbled back and forth over the seriousness of it, or lack thereof. After just a little while, they mostly calmed down, and reset. Moving on to talk normally about a series of different topics, sharing each others' lives with a depth, clarity, and care that only really comes with a genuine deep connection.

A little less than halfway through the thirty minute drive, Shannon opened her purse and sifted through it looking for a snack pill to hold her over until dinner. While she did, John looked over into her purse out of the corner of his eyes to double check if she had brought the portable SSD memory display drive that he had given her earlier to put in her bag.

When he did not see it right away, he said, "You did bring the memory drive, right?"

Shannon paused abruptly, looked up and forward with a blank stare, and quickly began sifting through her purse again. Then, her jacket pockets. The drive was for Shannon's father. John was an architect and interior designer who used 3D animated VR and AR software to create virtual models of residential and retail property designs that could be experienced as virtual or augmented realities within actual spaces. John promised Shannon's father that he would create some iterations for the new house extension and remodel that they were planning. He'd talked to him just a couple days prior, and said that it was all set to show him. It was one of the main reasons why they were going to visit.

But this wasn't about John, Shannon, or her father. This was about Bahr, who stared blankly at the shrieking boss without attacking as he became lost in this ultimately meaningless tangent of thought.

A slow and steady approach as Hel was trapped in a maelstrom of effects that would be the death of her, she could not act as multiple triggers drained her HP down harshly in what seemed like only seconds. "It seems you never stood a chance." Raidou quips as she decays, her very skin cracking and showing the light underneath as she coughs and struggles to regain her composure. With chains broken, she had no plan B and with her dwindling and swelling mortality, it would not be long. "One more stroke should do it if you would kindly." he would look off into the darkness, expecting judgment to appear from it. It was after all the very thing that held her going, and would be easy for her to finish the thing after the racking damage her magics had done. Adjusting the changed glasses, the very same that held against FTK as they reform his breath and play into his calm composure.

Freyd's blade followed at his fellow captain's beckoning, severing the decrepit woman's head.  A satisfied grin swept across his face only to falter as the was the wounds immediately start to close.  Flesh and sinew knit back together as Hel's half-rotten form was made whole.  Standing, she slowly returned to her throne and gave them all

"Oh, right.  She does the thing, with the chair and stuff.  We raced past it so fast the last two times that I didn't really pay it much attention."  Leaning against his sword, its seal still warbling warmly after dealing the killing blow, he casually listened as Hel spoke her scripted spiel and made ready to send them on their way.

"Say... where the heck did Oscar go?  Did he drop out?"  Scanning the boss room, Freyd could find no sign of the man.  "How did we lose someone that size?!"  He even lifted hem of Hel's dress, just in case.  With hot-dog man, you just never knew.

"Crap.  He must have bailed, or been knocked out by a glitch or something."  This whole thing had been for him.  Looking to his remaining companions, he looked a little perplexed.

"Do we finish it, or just call it here?"

"A disconnection?"

For some reason, NIGHT had entirely believed that to be a legitimate scenario to occur in Sword Art Online; the only reason it hadn't occurred so far was on the shoulders of a miracle that either the real world or Cardinal had managed to pull off. She routed around the throne just as Freyd checked under Hel's robes. "Not here either," she returned, a hand scratching at the back of her scalp.

"Do we finish it, or just call it here?"

Oh, talk about wishes coming true. Another miracle, this one made on Halloween. "Unless you three need anything from Fenrir, which I doubt, I'm good with heading back." It felt strange to end their adventure partway through, but there was little reason to go chasing a puppy when there were better things she could be doing with her day. Her blade vanished from sight, before her eyes scanned the vicinity, an awful realization dawning upon her.

"-- Uh, where's the exit though...?"

  • 2 weeks later...

Freyd's right eyebrow lifted in perfect unison with his right arm, hand and index finger, pointing in response to NIGHT's question.  A small metal cage descended through the black fog that was the ceiling of this space and clattered to the ground behind one of the far pillars.  A man, no... a small... giant?  He was blue, so... frost giant?  In any case, he held an undersized sausage in his hands, drenched in assorted condiments and waved happily to them while unintentionally bobbing his braided white beard into his snack.  It explained the method of Oscar's egress, if little else.  The innuendo was bordering on lewd, but it always was whenever the big man was concerned.  The giant midget had a small red cap on his head signaling his function as a sort of bellhop.  It had little, white, feathery wings sticking out from either side, along with several spiraling horns.  Cardinal seemed to be getting trippy on the background details, or maybe just confused with all of the events happening of late.

"Lookin' ta get off, are ye?"

His cockney accent strangely fit the theme.

"Erm..."  Freyd glanced at his remaining companions with awkward doubt at the character of the scene's undertones.

"Let's go with 'yes' and get the..."  He paused to glanced over at the half-rotten deity still sitting in her chair.  Palming his face with a black glove, he sighed desperately into his hand.  Tired of word games, he just pointed the exit sign hovering over the barnacle-encrusted wrought iron cage, then hopped in.

"Seems an ample choice." Raidou remarked noting the now reduced party count, with a feeling of dejavu still racking his brain throughout each peruse of the chamber. Hel was down, Hyrm was down and each member had hardly any reason to continue so outmanned. Removal of a teleport crystal from his pocket "If you need me. I am only ever a call away." Breaking the device in his hands and painting a flash of energy throughout the place, he trusted that everyone in the chamber had enough sense to return without danger. Storming into the city of coral, shaking his head softly as the sudden jerk of change in lighting caused his eyes to blind but for a moment. Pushing through the bustling crowd toward the cathedral of the forgotten, he had matters to attend and books to keep.

A man of routine and a man of a method in the madness.
