[PP-F23] What is in the dark forest? <<Player-event>>

Recommended Posts

Feral, that was the first thing that came to his mind when the beast made its entrance. Not that the forest would be having only docile animals, He watched as the two girls in his team moved forward and joined combat. the ones who attacked earlier showed some skill, others were... flailing. would he be different? only he can know. The girl with the silver hair unleashed some kind of buff or effect that affected the whole party with an extra two people. He wasn't sure how it would work, he just has to try.

A dash forward, holding the staff as if it was some kind of sword with one hand. He wasn't used to the weight and right now he's trying to utilize it with what he's familiar with. A wide swing, aiming for the liver. It was a beast and he's sure that its organs are right where they should be, unless Aincrad is modifying the anatomy of these feral creatures.

Too strong of a swing, careless "reckless" he muttered to his blunder. A quick step shifting the weight of his body to stop the other end of the staff from hitting the silver-haired girl. He failed the attack on the beast but succeeded in not bludgeoning her. Plini fell on his back beside her "how the hell does Wukong pull it off?" he uttered as he stood up, calmly brushing off the leaves on his coat and twig in his hair.

The sudden entrance of the giant beast was sooner than expected, they hadn't even really divided up into parties yet, just groups at this point. But this appearance made sense, it was a sacrificial mob provided by the system to allow them to practice their new weapons and circumstances. So nonchalantly Baldur walked up to the giant beast, and then assumed to stance that would activate one of his sword arts... but nothing happened.

"Hmm... alright, the old fashioned way than."

Without any rush, as the beast raged around them, Baldur drew the blade, held it high above his head, and then brought it down powerfully, precisely so that the monouchi was buried deep into the bear's side, he smoothly transitioned into the cutting motion of the blade, leaving a deep red gash, exposing the red wire-frame mesh of the inside of the bear's polygon model. It was a good, solid hit and it seemed the damage reflected that.

Around him, he noticed the others all trying to get used to their new weapons, or different weapons. This one did not give him amazing stats like his normal sword, but he had spent years of his life using a normal katana, and not a suped up video game one.

The Beast crashed into John with a loud boom. You could hear some of the metal parts of his armor crackle, as well as a bone or two of the enemy to break as well. Thou both of their health was unharmed. John stood strong, keeping his attention focused on the knight, with the wall of metal protecting him. At the same time, Andrey had taken the lead and charged from the side. But his light sword seemed to only barely scratch the dark hide. He quickly disengage as the players followed up. Some landing wounding strikes, some don’t. When all the players had delivered their attacks, Andromeda, Setsuna, Plini, Ariel, Baldur and Mari could see their weapons shine with a bright red glow for a few seconds before it faded out and they saw a buff below their healthbar.

The bearlike creature realized he couldn’t harm Sir John, so he turned to one of the guys that have hurted him. He looked Nian in the eyes, letting out a loud raor and charged her head on. He lifted his big, heavy paw, and struck Nian with a powerful blow on her shoulder. He let out another roar before turning and attempting the same thing on Freyd. But Freyd succeded to avoid the attack in the last second. Then he stretched himself up, being as tall as he could stared at them all with tiny red, angry eyes.

Here's the thing about being given gear during an event. That build you spent hours and hours and hours of grinding for? Yeah, it meant jackshit here. Koga's accuracy buffs? Gone. In real life, he could never recall missing a strike like he had before. Blocked, parried, outclassed? Yes. But this was a big, stupid jellyfish bear. It was like trying to shoot the broadside of a barn. Easy. And yet he'd messed it up sometimes.

The bear collided heavily with the form of Sir John. The sound of crunching metal and bones filled the air and for a moment, Koga imagined that the NPC had just been trampled into dust. And yet, the man still stood, stalwart as ever. Alright, time to capitalize on an easy target. One foot in front of the other. Proper grip. Lift the arms, swing.

Somehow, by the grace of God, or perhaps it was his ire, Koga's sword bit into only dirt. He'd misjudged the distance. This weapon, he realized, had a shorter blade than his own Tsuki no Hikari, a detail he'd missed before.

"Okay. That's it guys. I'm done, have fun." Koga said to no one in particular, turning around and walking towards the edge of the fight to let someone more capable actually do some damage.

Red. Red. Red.

The young emperor was seeing red.

The nick she'd gotten -- no, the swipe that pummeled her stalwart form to falter backwards -- distastefully unbecoming to her standards. That gash across her front spoke of failures, one after another, but she gnashed her teeth together and tightened the grip around her weapon's length.

Any ruler worth their salt would have gotten used to setbacks. Any ruler worth gold, however, would never have gotten this close to failure in the first place.

She struck, an attempt at retaliation, but failed in her execution and endeavor. The bear was fast, and her footing unsteady; curse the mortal coil Nian had found herself trapped in, virtual or not. A hoarse growl mixed with a grunt was the best war-cry she could muster when the blunt of her blade battered thin air, her pupils catching sight of that beast outmaneuvering attacks one after another.

How was it still standing to royalty such as herself? Better question...

-- Couldn't she have gotten stuck with better suited commoners?

A pop of some skill causes the steel to swell with light, Andromedia had triggered something. Setsuna kneels low, hovering a hand over the steel. Within an instant she clears the creature who turns subtly before a wound shreds out below its left armpit, to the click of saya shut. "This weapon is weak, but it has had some effect." If this were hers, it would be in two pieces. But some of her frost lingered, forming around the bright red glow upon its chest and climbing. "A pity, but I will not allow you to escape." She shuffles her heels and pivots, performing a lunge backward to build some distance. A puff of white, and seemingly the girl was gone. The question was how well her stealth would hold, how keen this thing's senses were. A question she'd find out if she was visible, watching and waiting for one more hole in its defenses.

She had absolutely no idea what her buff just did.

Squinting, An tried to focus on each one of the recipients — but all did it was confirm that they did indeed get the buff and on their status bar, it appeared as a yellow sigil with a singular character that reminded her of the impact of a blunt attack. Hey, wait, was that someone's staff coming right at her?

Thud. The player twisted his body so that he instead fell on his back beside her. "A-Are you okay?!" An hovered nervously by his side as he pulled himself up. "I'm sorry! I shouldn't have gotten so close."

The giant bear thing that the game simply referred to as 'Beast' throttled her squad member. Decent damage for a first encounter, and a manageable HP bar. An still wasn't sure what effect she was supposed to be looking for.

Plan B it is.

She'd say that, if only she hadn't stumbled and misfired at the very next moment.

Bending backwards at an unnaturally awkward angle to avoid the beast's giant claw, Freyd snapped the staff against his ribs, pinning it tight with his left arm.  One end braced against the ground below, enough to stop his fall, while his right foot swung upward like a pendulum and built the momentum he needed to propel himself into a backflip.  As his feet resumed contact with the forest floor, the shaft flipped up behind him charged with the same energy aimed directly at the mob's snarling snout.  It missed by a quarter of an inch.

The cowl seemed to stutter, tilting sideways in confusion then leaning in for a closer look at the iron-shod end of the purpleheart stick in his hands.  Standing from his stance, in the midst of hectic battle, he rapped it a couple of times on a nearby stone.  Then, bracing it against a raised knee, he flexed it to check its suppleness.  Calling out to the brunette archer who had rallied them all in the first place, he held his weapon in the air, pointing emphatically at it.

"Yo!  Hannah!  WTF?!  I think your stick is busted!"

One got struck, probably vented out it's frustration when obviously John can defend himself really nice. A lot of the players missed, best hope he doesn't. A quick twirl of his staff and he was ready to engage in battle again. "Observe them..." Plini watched as they attacked, trying to remember their names or coming up with some nicknames.

Nian got swiped, she(?) tried to retaliate but it failed. It wasn't even a blunder because of anger, luck just didn't kick in. An was already a few feet behind him and he wasn't sure whether she landed a blow or not "ok time to test a thrusting..." he placed the staff on his shoulder, holding one end and aiming the second to the beast.

The beast took a swipe at him too but Plini successfully dodged it of course, NIan already took the fall for them. "May I try to retaliate for you?" he told her as he continued to move forward. he spun around, keeping the aim of the staff at it's jaw. "Add more momentum and then..." Plini made a thrusting attack after the spin. A smack to the jaw, maybe not enough to knock it out but it won't tickle either. Plini raised the staff "... how's that for a revenge strike, milord?" he told her.

The players of Aincrad havnt had the best start against the big bear. Yes, they wasn’t even close to being in the danger zone themselves. But the beast that had charged them, that was supposed to be a easy scout to take down nice and quick, was still standing. He haven’t even lost half his health. He let out another mighty roar before striking sir John again. This time, his claws was surrounded by a red, pulsing aura. The claws easily slashed away his breastplate, making the knights health drop by two thirds. The players that was close to John could see the panic and fear that appeared in his eyes. Andrey jumped forward to protect his friend, but a hit from the beasts backhand knocked him back like he was just an annoying fly. ‘’Run! Everyone run!’’ sir John screamed from the bottom of his lungs. They could hear his voice shaking with fear, but he stood firm. The armoured man took a hard grip of his sword, took a step forward and with all his might buried it into the bears torso.

Andrey that had risen looked at John for a few seconds before turning around. ‘’You herd him everyone! Run! We will make another try tomorrow.’’ And with those words, the duelist started to head back to the town, followed by Hannah and her eagle circling high above.

Thank you all for joining. Because of the release of 3.0, Im ending the thread here. I will restart it in 3.0 in a few weeks or something when people have got into 3.0 a bit more and stuff. Sadly we lost sir John this time, hopefully someone will rise up to take his place next time, when we going ot push into the forest and find out what mysteries lays inside.
