“Uhm…excuse me…? I was sent here by a…a bistro, if you can believe that. I’m still not entirely sure if that’s their name, or just what they like to do. I certainly won’t judge either way, but they specifically told me to say that a bistro had sent them. Which, as I say it aloud, just sounds odd.” Soft blue eyes darted around the interior as Zenshu took in his surroundings. The exterior’s lavish colours had made him halt, wondering if he could even afford the services here. The interior had only embellished the feeling that he was entering a place well out of his league – and that made him nervous.

“They – bistro – said that I could get some items identified here. I got these off a couple of boars, and I’m hoping that they can replace what I currently have – or well, give me a bit of a boost! I’ve only just started really getting into things, and while I’m quite content with what I do have, more is always better. Or, well, better is always better. I know there’s a saying about better being better, but I can’t quite remember how it goes.”

He paused in thought for the briefest of seconds, before continuing along his line of thought. “So I hope you can help me out. Or maybe point me to someone who can identify these pieces? Oh! And if you know a…blacksmith? Tailor? Someone who makes cloth materials who could maybe look at upgrading my tunic, that would be awesome as well!”

small talk forgone for silence. the equipment traded through the window (iris' request, when the appraiser herself was for once and finally behind her desk) was greeted with quiet pings and flicks of opening windows, pressed buttons. as soon as the last items vanish from her inventory, night's gaze fell to the glass table. upon the fluffy decor were a few pieces of gear, style unrecognizable.

other clients. who to be recognizable, of note? perhaps if it had been anyone she knew, it was reason enough to visit the broker for some information. nonetheless, a quick hum and a nod after iris' dismissal, and she drifted off towards the exit, keeping her steps quiet as they'd usually been.

Nari softly opened the door, making sure it didn't slam behind her as she slid into the shop. Although the sign out front said closed - as it always did, these days - she was pleased to find that the door was open, meaning that she was welcome inside. Her voice carried softly over the otherwise empty room as she called out, before coming up to the main desk and pulling out piece after piece after piece. "Err...sorry, I know it's a lot...it was a...productive day, to the say the least. Uhm...anything less than a perfect piece you can either keep or junk sale, whichever is best for you! Oh uhm, and if possible...I'm looking for some secondary polearms...scythes especially if anything comes from it!"

Nari wandered into the small store again, feeling like she'd just recently been here. Taking a few moments, she moved throughout the shop, looking over numerous items and searching for the piece she was truly desiring. What she found, hidden away in the backroom, caught her eyes the moment she came across it. if iris wasn't here, then there wasn't a need to call out for her arrival on bistro's notice. but there was a stranger -- one of the store supervisors, she thought, but wasn't certain, and wasn't close enough in distance to check. so night simply stared at the brown-haired woman, lazing on a couch, head buried in a magazine or another, the title unfamiliar to the former. and night took no hesitation in memorizing its appearance just in case she needed to know more.

her quiet approach was rudely interrupted by the drop of the equipment she'd brought over. stunned, the woman reading glanced up, remarked a causal, "oh, didn't see you come in there," and then returned to her pages.

so much for being silent, night supposed.

there was something inherently silly in needing new equipment, night thought. it just didn't seem to add up, how her pieces were constantly being traded, one for another, in pursuit of maximization; it meant wastage in the way she had to set some pieces on reserve, and it meant a lot of effort being spent running around finding items that fit together.

so she was thankful that bistro could call in favors for her one shot, her attempt at breaching the stars.

iris was in personally that day. and the weapons she sought were wrapped in a bundle, alongside a new set of clothes. night examined them with hesitance, but ultimately accepted the upgrade. no, if she had to get in there with every possible competitive edge, then she would do her best to live up to everyone's collective efforts.

one of the last things she was expected to get: a new piece of equipment from iris, only she recognized it as somewhat a familiar component piece to one of her friends, who was now feeling ill.

so she examined the piece, touching it with caution, afraid to even give the broken blade a swing. night had almost wanted to speak up, in clarification of the plan, but as her gaze travelled across the table over to iris, hard at work examining the data she'd collected, the player opted to shut up, instead.

over by the lounge, even jean and a third stranger were lost in discussion over bistro's strategy. so, with little other choice, she took the piece, off to locate a blacksmith as instructed.

it was always a new weapon with night, wasn't it? swap out oathkeeper, lend a hand (or an arm) to someone. the player pulled at the muscles of her neck as she stepped through the door, seeing the state of the scarlet line. good as new. almost like there hadn't been a crowd present in the days before. the only tell that something was amiss were the few thrones that remained... only to accompany the dining table, where normal chairs were meant to do.

"so where are the wooden ones...?"

the last founder, whom she forgot her name, pointed towards one of the back rooms. and then, night understood, sighing sadly in remembrance of them and picking up her package.

he'd received a note in capitalized handwriting, unlike the individuals he knew. was sure it wasn't an order from his employer, but found it difficult to say.

but it was in his jurisdiction, and if it was to benefit some other player for the reasons outlined in the missive, it was well worth his position and risk.

demian scrambled down the steps of the scarlet line, to an unassuming meeting between jean and bistro. waved as a greeting. asked to check behind the counter to take inventory. it would always be assumed as conjecture, but he meant it, literal.

he scrambled out of the room, without giving away his intentions with the component they needed.

night chose not to reply any further.

she seemed exhausted upon visiting iris, but was promptly awoken when she was requested of her services the very moment she'd stepped through the door. "i was only here to drop these off," she explained, unloading her storage onto iris's counter.

"yes, and i too had designs of my own," iris challenged, though distracted, "before something like this was to befall upon my work..."

so night blinked twice, information rectifying itself in her head.

"it was bistro, wasn't it? that she would be swarming you with..."

night received an affirmation. afterwards, they would strike a deal of their own. one custom order for the lot.

it was fine with night. she had a lot on her mind, anyway – and old wounds reopening didn't help.

However, a thin white fang seems to protrude slightly at the center, and it leaks of a familiar, stinging toxin that halts its foes where they stand. The grip is a tough mixture of edged dark metal, woven in with ribbons of crystalline red and white. Sharp edges all around; handle with care.

 

Iridescent Blue Scarf

look. bistro wasn't going to know. iris wasn't going to tell. and if she was, night had just stumbled upon a little secret she wasn't exactly sure was exactly good blackmail material.

iris was passed out on the couch, and so was jean. the thing was: jean had her head on iris' lap. night initially hadn't wanted to intrude on their peace and quiet, but she was caught by the woman in blue by the counter, where iris usually was, who beckoned her to come in.

it wasn't good blackmail material... on the basis she got caught. but between the look of uneasiness from night and indifference of the shop's third owner upon noticing her client's stock low, it was plain and simple.

iris wasn't going to tell.

wheeling and dealing wasn't just a game for bistro. 

demian had his deck of cards, too; and he wasn't going to be exceptionally overlooked for what he could theoretically achieve. between the meetings with his employer, his guard and his new friend, he'd finally found time to undock himself from society as they knew him, and shelve his body into a place too unfitting for the first floor's main districts.

no one spared him a knowing glance to force a sense of guilt into him. and that's what demian liked most about the scarlet line — so he stayed for a little longer, with his gear on the counter, and sampled a bit of tea offered by one of the store owners who was relaxing. now, all he had to do was wait.
