The forest was unnaturally quiet as Itzal made his way through it in his shadowy armor. More than likely players were staying indoors, reading the update and taking much longer to process it and/or adjust. As a result it felt as if he had the entire floor to himself. He'd run into a few of the monsters on this floor, which had in general changed to common and uncommon mobs. One of the benefits of his level, despite it being cut, was that significantly lower level monsters that were at least ten levels below him, (identified with pink cursors) would flee from him and not bother him unless he attacked first. This likely wouldn't be the case on higher floors, regardless of paragon levels however. But with his hiding skill he wasn't too concerned. Aldion may not be have combat bonuses anymore, and overall no real mastery just yet, he was still family to Itzal, and so the raven stayed with him. As Itzal made his way to the teleport pad he typed in a message to Zandra.

To: @Zandra
From: Itzal.

Just finished reading up on the update and adjusting my skill points. Where do you want to meet up?

With that written out he hurried over to the town. He was right. Most of the players that lived on the second floor were crowding around the area. Most of them seemed scared, others just talking with other players trying to figure stuff out. Itzal took precautions of course, and used alleys and rooftops, as well as the hide skill, to avoid being noticed by players. He couldn't have them figure out that Are came from this floor after all. He snuck up behind the teleporter pad and awaited Zandra's reply.

Zandra was in her bedroom at the second floor of her estate, She sat on the edge of the bed, with her elbows on her knees and leaning her head on her closed fists like she was praying. Thou when it comes to Zandra, praying was very unlikely she would do. No, at the moment, her brain was working at full speed. ‘’Hmm. But why… Yeah, maybe.’’ She mumbled to herself, her eyes staring out in the air infront of her, looking at nothing.  ‘’But if that’s. No, it cant. If thou.’’ She kept on mumbling. If someone herd her, they would probably think she is crazy or something. But to be fair, that was true, a long, long time ago. But not anymore.

That was when her thoughts got interrupted by a sound. The familiar signal that a mail have dropped down in her inbox. She glanced at the pop-up notification. At first she ignored it, there was more important things to do now. But it didn’t took many seconds before she couldn’t hold herself back. She pressed the icon and opened the mail. When she saw who it was from and what was written in it, she felt a smile on her lips. With fingers that is now used to writing in the air, she quickly sent a reply back to him. She knew that he, just like her, was very experienced when it came to skills and builds in this death game, so she had wanted to give both of them some time to think before discussing it. Or easier said, she didn’t wanted to disturb him. But it seemed that he was ready, so she rose from the bed and headed out. Usually, she would wear her casual clothes, the red skirt with suspenders, a red hood and dark t-shirt. Both because she knew a mob-less road to town, as well as a few hours ago, no normal mob on this floor would be able to take her on, even with standard axe and no armor. But after this, she couldn’t be sure, so she had equipped her trusty Inferno armor and Teselths fury in her hand. Still, she reached the floor 22 plaza without any encounter.

It did not take very long at all for the player to hear the ring of a message appearing on his menu. According to Zandra the twenty second floor was also changed, which Itzal had guessed might happen. From what he could identify, the entire world of Aincrad had been completely altered in it's entirety from changes in the system, to it's physical world, to the lore behind everything as well. Of course he also figured that the events of the twenty fifth floor boss raid wasn't supposed to happen. Between the shadow boasting about attacking and conquering all of Aincrad, as well as the fact that no npc seemed to notice any darkness or shadow, which players say engulfed the entire castle, nor did the npcs have any knowledge of it. The strange event only lived on through the memory of players. Not even Aldion seemed to recall the event when Itzal questioned him. His intelligent raven simply tilted it's head in confusion. He was after all, an npc. Part of the program. If Itzal had to guess, the boss was given too much sentience by the cardinal system, became self aware, and in effect became a virus in the system that needed to be purged. It probably would have been destroyed with or without the players beating against it, but he wondered if the answer behind the boss becoming seemingly weaker against them was. Perhaps. The cardinal setting limiters on it, and/or Orgoth himself. Whatever the case, while they may not know what happened exactly. It was nice to know that Kayaba wasn't cruel enough to just leave them like that.

When no one was looking he jumped to the teleporter and whispered: "Floor twenty two: Coral Town." And just like that he teleported to the other floor. Once he teleported there he was immediately welcomed by the sight of Zandra standing there waiting for him. Before he greeted her, he activated his scouting skills and scanned the area for any players that may be in the plaza... Despite it being a very popular floor, he didn't see anyone. Players must want to place their homes in locations of isolation away from all the business. Either way. He smiled and relaxed a bit knowing that there weren't any players around. He had to keep this deception up. That Are and Zandra were friends/ish, mainly allies. Itzal was Zandra's wife. Not Are. Are had many enemies, and he would not allow them to target Zandra, or any of his friends... "I really need to talk with Mina.. Maybe Jonathan. I don't know how far gone he is though. I need to double check there. They've been kept from my secret for too long." And he knew they could keep his secret. They weren't about to slip up at all anytime soon. For now though... He just wanted to be with his wife.

Encouraged by the absence of any players in the area, Itzal ran over to Zandra and hugged her tightly. "When I woke up I was so worried you had died. Thank God you're alright." Itzal didn't cry.. But he could have. He was very close to doing so at the very least. Aldion landed on the top of the well nearby. "Caw! Caw!" He cried, joining in the celebration, his wings flapping strongly as he stretched upward. Itzal chuckled at that, and when they finally pulled away from their embrace he smiled warmly to her. "Well. We both came out alright. Though I have a feeling that our thanks should be given towards the cardinal system specifically."

Zandra stood at the outer edge of the plaza and waited to see the portal shine up with a blue and white light. The shine she by now was so familiar with. Stuff seemed to have changed, but at least that was the same. Even thou she enjoyed new stuff and changes, she appreciated that they kept some stuff like it have always been. Kept some stuff the way she had lived with for these years, and enjoyed. She really hoped when they started to advnetyre and fight mobs, that it wouldn’t feel like a totally different game. It was what it have been that she loved with this game of death. Just as she thougth that thougth, another thing she loved appeared as the portal shined. A big smile on her lips as her she started to walk towards it.

She was so happy to see her husband again. She held out arms and replied the hug. It seemed he had been worried about her and was happy she was alright. ‘’Well, it takes more then giant update to take down me. Seems like you are okay as well.’’ She said as she held him tight.

As Itzals familiar joined their re-union with a caw caw, a short cry was herd before another feather being appeared. The kingseagle Zita landed on a bench and looked at them with her razorsharp eyes and it almost looked like she gave them a warm smile.

‘’Yes, we did indeed. But just because we came out alright doesn’t mean we can relax quite yet. Come, lets go to the café I mentioned. Their blueberrycake is amazing. You must try it.’’ She said and started to lead the way.

It was so warming to see Zandra and her smile again. He even felt his body lose a tension he wasn't aware of previously. He even felt a little bit taller, though he believed it could have been his posture. Being concerned, stressed, and confused regarding 3.0 and the safety of Zandra had been concerning for him after all. His eyes flitted to where her wedding ring would normally be, and could see it there over her armor. Another relief of tension knowing that they were still digitally married. While it wasn't a heavy tension, it was nice to know they didn't have to go through the entire wedding ceremony a second time. It was hard on Zandra he knew, and while she needed to push through it to get stronger, and to help put her at ease knowing this wouldn't be like her prior relationships, he didn't want her to have to go through that stress again. When Zita flew in Itzal smiled and laughed a little before giving a slight bow and nod to the majestic creature. "I missed you too Zita! It's good to see you again." Aldion flapped his way over to the bench and landed near Zita, his head bobbing up and down in greeting as he gave small caws here and there to the larger bird of prey. The two had become decent friends in the time Zandra and Itzal had dated. Although they had no recollection of the floor boss or the catastrophic event that had occurred, they greeted one another as long friends would after weeks apart... In their own weird bird way.

"I am. I wasn't sure at first when I woke up. I've never seen anything like that before, so I was scared Kayaba killed us off. Seems he's more gracious than we give him credit for." Rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment, he heard her reminder that they were not nearly out of the woods yet. Itzal's face went neutral somewhat with a firm nod. True, they managed to clear the twenty fifth boss, and not only survive it but the update... If that was hostile in any way that is. They were still seventy five floors away from the finish line. Not only that but with this new update, things were going to be more challenging than before. He wondered if Kayaba wanted to make it more difficult to clear, or if he wanted to make the game more fun for the players... It could easily go either way if he was being honest. "It all comes down to if Kayaba is a homicidal maniac, or if he just wanted to enjoy his world to some extent..." Monsters had grown stronger regardless, and the players had all lost at least half of their health and energy, as well as lots of skill points. While you could regain those through paragon levels, it wasn't an easy feat in any sense of the word. With that in mind, the sword arts had seemed to have vastly improved, and with the right combination of skills you could be just as strong as beforehand. Furthermore, players could even get their hands on unique enhancements and demonic equipment more easily by combining equipment and going to the merchant... Or wait, appraiser.

This of course was something he needed to jump on immediately to catch up with other players like Zandra. Players who had the edge before with the floor drops, able to deal huge amounts of damage to increase their chance at getting the final drop. With his new chances at getting those demonic and unique materials, he had to hurry. Lots of grinding, with loot level monsters, dungeons, chests, bosses. Even some of the quests out there. There were one or two he hadn't taken yet so he may as well try them out. But... For now, he wanted to be with his wife. And when she mentioned blueberry cake. His stomach audibly rumbled. "....Good food sounds amazing." Food was always one of his weaknesses ever since he'd entered this world. He loved trying new foods of every type, and from every country. Hearing about one that he hadn't had before only made him even hungrier.

Zandra gave her husband a warm smile. ‘’Yeah, the experience of the update was truly terrifying. I don’t even know what to say. But hopefully it going to be for the better when we have settled down and got the hang of things.’’ She replied when he agreed to be okay. Just as when she was home, thoughts darted thru her head, she thinking of everything and nothing. But no, this wasn’t the time for that. Now they was gonna go to the Talking pie and enjoy some delicious cake. ‘’indeed. The blueberry cake is very good. With a cup of choclatemilk to as well. Jummy.’’

They walked for a bit until they reached a typically fantasy-styled medieval restaurant type of building. With a few tables outside as well. There was a few guests sitting and enjoying some food and drinks. Thou Zandra recognized all of them. ‘’don’t worry about the guests, they are all NPC’s.’’ she said and walked to a table for two inside that was at the window so they could see out but still placed in a way so it was very hard to be able to spot them. She did remembered Itzals sneakiness and guessed he wouldn’t be a big fan of sitting outside. ‘’Does this work?’’ she asked him with a warm smile. Zandra sits down and a waitress walks up to them. ‘’I can take your order.’’ She says and while looking at the waitress Zandra quickly says. ‘’2 Blueberry-pies and 2 cups of chocolate-milk.’’ Then she turns to Itzal. ‘’So, what you think?’’ she says and moving her arm in a wide circle pointing over the area inside the café.

As he listened to her comment on the update being a bit... Extreme, Itzal couldn't help but give a firm nod in agreement with her. He crossed his arms over his chest as he thought about what had happened and shared his mind on the subject in return. "I get that Kayaba would want to do something big, flashy and impressive before putting us all to sleep but. I mean come on. They could have at least made it a bright flash of light. That's less of an: "oh sh*t I'm gonna die" concept at the very least." Darkness was often seen as evil or scary to most people in the world. Even people who weren't scared of the dark had their guard up when it creeped into their lives for the simple fact that it's whatever lies within the darkness that makes it dangerous. When people see light they don't have the same reaction by nature. Light can hurt your eyes if too intense, but it's most known for revealing areas, people, monsters, and everything else in the area. That was the primary reason light was considered to be good, while darkness was always considered to be evil. Because evil hides in the shadows, while the light exposes them to everyone's vision. That wasn't to say that darkness was evil of course, even the Japanese knew of this. The yin and yang symbol was a perfect example of this. However in an immediate, no time to react situation darkness would hold a far more fearful and suspicious reaction than light would ever have. Maybe it was to stay in line with the lore of the boss fight, but honestly that made no sense either. All of the npcs would have forgotten it anyways, and it was an update so it didn't matter to lore... Right? "Wait... Does it affect the lore of this world in any way??" He thought to himself, his expression puzzled as he put a hand to his chin in thought. Much of these floors had changed for good, that much was obvious. But how much had changed really? Were the quests touched? The lives of NPCs? What about secrets to Aincrad? So many questions....

That had to wait for another time  he thought to himself as he snapped out of his trance. Shaking his head to refocus, he looked at Zandra who cheerfully added to the description of the blueberry cake, and shared that they provided chocolate milk along with it as well. To this Itzal just became more hungry, abscent-mindedly touching his stomach. "Wonder what kind of chocolate the milk is.. German chocolate? American Chocolate?" He had no idea, but all his lore-piecing was thrown out the window with the promise of food. Smiling and gesturing for her to lead the way, he followed behind her. Despite the fact that they were seemingly alone, Itzal didn't lower his guard. His hand was always resting on his sword's pommel, his eyes scanning the alleyways and backwater paths, and shadowed areas for monsters, pkers or players in general. Zandra was most certainly right. They should not lower their guard just yet. Player killers would most certainly try to take advantage of situations like this. Either they rushed through their build rework or they were just very fast and efficient in it, but they would be out and about right now. As they walked into the shop however he relaxed a little more. Navigating his menu he switched from his armor to his casual clothes under the doorway, so that he could be comfortable, but also so that he and Zandra could show each other affection without worry of his identity being revealed. Thus the armored Zandra walked into the non pvp zone of the restaurant with Itzal, who was now clothed in jean pants, a red shirt, and a black trench coat with purple accents.

As they sat down she assured him that they were all npcs, and Itzal realized she made sure to pick somewhere they couldn't get caught. All the remains of his tension evaporated at once, and his expression softened as a warm smile grew. "Thanks Zan." he said. He didn't have to explain himself either, she knew why Are's identity had to stay secret. There were the average player killers he took down, but he'd interfered with some of the bigger guilds as well. He'd stopped one or two laughing coffin members, and an assassin sent by a rival player killing guild. He'd made big enemies as of late, enemies that could pose a threat even to Zandra if they weren't careful. So the two of them would be taking additional precautions to ensure the other was not harmed in any way, shape or form. The table she lead them to only reinforced how much consideration she had put into this particular reunion for the two of them. "Yes, this would work perfectly Zandra. Thanks." With the precautions set and out of the way, the two were able to sit down now. No one was around when Itzal changed garbs, and he was now sitting as Itzal, not Are. No one would ever get the connection between the two, and as such he was safe to be as carefree as he ever was. Itzal's foot was fidgeting as Zandra gave their order, and when she asked him what he thought his answer was obvious. "I think I'm the luckiest man in the whole world being able to try even more new cuisine with my wife." His stomach growled and he chuckled nervously. "That, and I'm starving for that food." Aldion glided in through an open window and perched on the top support beams. Itzal nodded to him and his familiar nodded back. The raven came in to help his eagle friend, as Zita was big and easily spotted. The npcs were generally set to drive animals out, but because of how small and insignificant Aldion looked they didn't have the same reaction towards him. Thus Aldion would ensure that Zita got his hands on some food. Itzal and Zandra would know this by now, having spent a great deal of time together. "As for the restaurant itself, it sure does take me back. I'm guessing it's player made?"

Zandra smiled heartfully towards Itzal as he replied to her comments. He seemed to be thankful for her going thru the troubles of fixing a table that is hidden but still don’t give you the claustofobic feel it can give if you sitting furthest inside a room in a corner where no light reach you except from a small candle like of spot. But he seemed to not only like the spot she picked, he seemed to like the whole restaurant itself as well. ‘’Yeah, this café is one of my favourites. I think it is the one Ive visited the most to be honest. If we was affected by the food we eat in the game, I would probably be fat enough to be used as a wheel.’’ She said and winked to the man she loves. Zandra sent a glance upwards to the roof. Zita that had visited the café as many times as Zandra had, seemed to surprise Aldion when she smoothly entered thru the door and landed on one of the roof beams without any trouble. She nodded to the raven like she appreciated the help he wanted to give her but that, at the moment, she was fine. After that she did what she always did, was keeping an eye on the guests in the café. After all, her razorsharp eyes could easily spot if anyone of the guests would have any ill intentions towards the couple in case of like, vielding a knife or looking to plan some shady business and stuff like that. But for now, everything was nice and calm. ‘’And Im the luckiest woman being able to share this delicious food with you.’’ She said and smiled. ‘’And actually no, this is not player made.’’ She paused for a few moments before she continued. ‘’I still remembered when I first got here. It was about a week after the floor was unlocked. I was on a stroll to find new food places. I usually do that a week or more after a new floor have been unlocked. You never know when that information can be valuable, as well as some foods in here, I don’t know how they do it, but they have really succeded with remaking the taste of the blueberry cake in here.’’ She glanced at the maid that had taken their order and saw as she prepared their order on a few plates and pured up the drink in a couple of mugs. ‘’But yeah, after I found this, I became a regular customer. How about you? Do you have any special food places?’’

Giving a light laugh at her enjoyable joke, he couldn't help but relate to the very true statement of hers. "Agreed! I doubt I'd be able to walk, let alone run if it weren't for that particular benefit we possess! Ha ha ha!" As his laughter died down, he caught a glimpse of Zita gliding in gracefully. He watched as Aldion, who was flying back to where his friend was, suddenly stopped right before he ran into the majestic creature and gave a loud "Caw!" in response and surprise. The result was that he dropped the large chunk of bread he grabbed for his friend, though he did catch it again with his talons. He flew up a little bit higher and placed the bread calmly by Zandra's familiar, and then dived down to grab another piece of food for himself to feast upon. Aldion was trained by Itzal to identify players between npcs, and when there were only npcs he didn't act as lookout half of the time. Even the raven familiar needed some down time after all. Itzal just chuckled and shook his head before returning his attention to his wife. He grinned at the cheesy line she gave, but then again. He didn't have anything but cheesy words up his sleeve either. Even with Kasier it was hard for him to come up with genuinely romantic things. But neither of them minded this, as they knew they were cheesy and took humor in it. However hearing that the food wasn't player made surprised him. "Really? Most items made by players, including food, tends to be of far better quality than game generated items. I'm surprised to hear there's amazing food coming from such a source." She then went on to explain how she encountered this place, and how she usually went on a leisurely stroll to find new places with food. Itzal nodded. "I know what you mean. Whenever a new floor is unlocked, I typically dedicate my entire day, sometimes two, to just scouting everything I can from the new floor. From it's incredible views, and places of interests, to it's dungeon locations, ambush sites, and other such locations." His smile faded slightly. "This time however... That's taking a backseat until we get a grip on this update."

Having taken a very long view through the entire update, Itzal had made a lot of decisions regarding his build, how he's handling things, and so forth. For the most part his build had not changed all that much, however he needed to change most of his planned skills to energist first, and he also needed to get the recovery enhancement as well. That, would only be available on a demonic item however, so he'd need to use demonic shards to combine the appropriate items. Overall however, he needed to rely on Zandra, and everyone else more than ever before now that his health and energy was reduced by half.

When she asked of his favorite places he sat there with a nostalgic smile on his face. "I think it's safe to say I don't have favorites regarding food. Best place for ice cream would be floor four for certain. Pancakes floor eleven. But most good foods you'll find on floor one. You tell me what you want, and I'll lead you right there... But..." His smile faded slightly. "While I appreciate this moment. We do need to talk about this update... Do you want to get this out of the way now? Or do you want to wait until after we've eaten?"

Zandra putted her elbows on the table and leaned her chin in her open palms. Her ruby coloured eyes looked at Itzal as he told her about where to get different kind of food, and that most of it you will find on floor one. With a calm smile on her lips she nodded. ‘’That is true. I think most players that decides to be skilled in the art of cooking decides to open their restaurant or café at floor one. Since you will have the biggest chance to get customers there. After all, I can bet that town of the beginning is the most player populated town of all floor we have dicsoered so far. To be honest, when I started my alchemy carrer, I had my cart on floor one. Hehe, even slept beside it back then, because I couldn’t afford a house or renting a room. IF thinking back on that time and comparing to now, so much have changed.’’

He then mentioned how to do with the important part of their meeting. ‘’Well, I’d suggest that we enjoy or time together now and when the desert arrives, the seriousness arrives with it. How does that sound for you?’’

Itzal nodded in agreement with her statement. The first floor was certainly very popular due to the dense population, and because most players were scared of being assaulted in the higher floors... Although from what Itzal heard, the latest floor boss fight may have spilled into the lower floors, so players may be rethinking that. At any rate players had to actively look for shops within the other floors more often than not. Half of the reason players chose higher floors for their shop was for the atmosphere and feel of it, and the other was often for the sake of privacy. Regardless of the reason, that was the case. When Zandra suggested they wait until after their desert to talk about the hard stuff, he nodded. Normally he liked to get the serious business out of the way so he could enjoy life without worrying about it. However with Zandra he'd slowly learned to switch back and forth sometimes depending on the subject. "Alright then. In that case." he said as he pulled something out of his inventory and handed it to Zandra: It was a box wrapped in wrapping and a bow. "It's supposed to be for a special occasion, but since I'd call surviving a massive boss fight, clearing a quarter of the game and surviving a huge update an occasion. Here."

Inside the box was a special trinket of gold and silver connected to a golden cord making it a necklace. The trinket was a very special type of locket, which when triggered would shift between the front of it: A silver shield with golden accents and tiny rubies, to a picture of the two of them together.
