The inhabitants of the third floor were more than anything that Randal had expected, it was the first time that he was stepping onto the floor and he was greeted with a unique sighting. All around him were goat people, the adults had long curved horns and the children which ran around had humps where their horns were beginning to grow. The local area was populated with NPCs looking for some form of assistance or another and the local inns were touting their business and special crafts.

There were many too who stood around ordered by the invisible marionette strings of Aincrad who sought to inform Randal as to the dangers that lurked around every corner, they sold books and information to help the player to survive should they listen, and Randal did, he spent the first few hours getting himself accustomed to the location. The huge trees that reached up and became the sky as well as the long rope bridges that connected various tree settlements to each other.

Randal soon came across one such NPC who sought to warn him but offered a different kind of tale. This character before him was a faune yet his body was large and built like a very strong human or even a giant form of a faune. He stood tall over Randal and spoke of a legend that was common among the Faune people.

He was gruff and excitable, constantly asking player’s around him if they would be willing to fulfil the legend of Hoya with him, to kill the mighty minotaurs and become a legend as well.

Ivory hummed to herself, tossing the Hoya of the West that she had just received up in the air. Her head hurt a little and she wondered if there was a bruise. Generally speaking headbutting a minotaur in the crotch was not the best form of attack, but she had tripped. Luckily her newest friends had finished it off for her. She hated that they had had to fight the creature, but it hadn't seemed capable of reason. Luckily she knew the secret strategy to beating it, and if she ever had to do the quest again she would definitely be pulling that trick out again.

Speaking of friends... She glanced around in confusion, noting that they had all disappeared on her. She never ceased to be surprised when that kind of thing happened, and it happened a lot. She slipped the necklace around her neck, noticing Randal out of the corner of her eye seeming to be asking people to join him for something or other. The snow haired healer wandered over to him, smiling like a bit of a ditz, which was typical. "Hey Randal, what are you doing around here?" She asked, having come up behind him and now looking at him with her head cocked to the side curiously.

She didnt want to be here. Floor three was lame as all get out, with its animal people and beautiful scenery. It was your typical nature floor, massive trees and an equally massive lack of anything fun or interesting to do. Now that she thought about it she had the same opinion of every floor they had unlocked so far. Maybe the problem was more with her than the floors themselves. Nah, that was a stupid thought. Hakai didn't have a problem, she never did. It was everyone else who had problems.

She was in full gear today, a black leather breastplate with ornate silver engravings, and a thick and very sturdy looking black steel gauntlet on her right arm. She had even run her fingers through her hair. All in all, Hakai was looking extremely put together, at least compared to normally. She raised her hand to her mouth, her fingers holding a typical orange and white cigarette, wrapping her lips around it before leaning over and shielding the tip from the wind as she carefully lit it. The Hoya quest seemed incredibly easy, and she was going to take it as quietly, calmly, and slowly as she could, just enjoying herself. She blew a plume of smoke out, spying a familiar shirtless figure in the crowd in front of her. Small world huh. No way was she getting involved this time. She leaned against the bark of a nearby tree, trying not to draw much attention to herself.

Hey Ivory, you’re just in time” Randal glowed at her. Seeing that Randal had found an ally that he knew, some of the other players that were talking to him said farewell and good luck before leaving. So, with that, Randal was able to provide his full attention to Ivory.

There’s quest here, this NPC Lorbak wants to find something to go kill a minotaur with him, I decided to do so, do you wanna come with?” Randal asked towards Ivory. While explaining the situation to her, Randal was fiddling with his interface to send a message to Hakai, the details of the quest were included with an offer to join, there was killing to be done and she would definitely find some joy in that. He was unaware the target of his invite was just several feet away.

While Randal and Ivory were talking about what to do, a Faune had started to walk up to Hakai, telling her that she should not have any open fires in the Forest, all of their houses and structures were made of wood and could catch fire, the main thing was that the entrepreneurial Faune wanted to sell her a pipe that would prevent embers from falling unlike her cigarette.

Ivory decided to keep it to herself that she had already done this quest, although that might be given away later by the fact that she was literally wearing one of the quest necklaces right now. She was happy to help a friend, and she didnt want him to feel awkward about inviting her on a quest that she had literally just finished doing. her lips turned up in a friendly smile, glad that at least someone wanted her to hang out with them. "I would love to come, although there's only so much I can do to help." She responded to him, shifting on her feet uncomfortably at the thought of killing another minotaur. She didnt like helping to hurt other things, although she understood that it was an unfortunate necessity of the game that they found themselves in. She jumped as she heard a loud shouting from behind her, squeaking and hugging herself in surprise. What on earth was going on behind her?

Her attention was ripped away from Randal and the people around him as a Faune man had walked up to her, tapping her on the shoulder to lecture her about fire safety or something like that. She grinned, viciously revealing her rather sharp canines and violently shoving the NPC away from her where he stumbled and fell onto his back. Her katana was already a quarter of the way out of her sheath, where she kept it, attempting to keep control of herself. She blew a puff a smoke into the air and tapped the cigarette on the hilt of her katana, the ember at the tip falling off onto the ground. She nudged it with her foot, the ember quickly dying out. "What are you gonna do about it kid." She badmouthed the Faune extremely loudly before slowly taking her hand off of her weapon and relighting the cigarette. That ought to keep the rest of the NPCs from bothering her for the moment. She glanced up, a notification having lit up on her HUD. Shit, he must have spotted me. She thought to herself, seeing the message and the contents. She gave Randal a half hearted wave, before scowling at the back of the Faune who had rushed off in a hurry.

Randal had just managed to secure an ally in Ivory when he spotted the very person that he had messaged not more than a few feet away from them. Unfortunately, she was not vibing very well with the Faune people. She was chasing away the Faune when she made eye contact with Randal and did a sort of half-hearted wave.

Randal turned to Ivory, “Erm, this is going to be a bit hard, but you see that lady with the black armour and red-hair, she’s kind of a violent person but she is really strong so we could use her on our team. Also, I don’t know if she has any other friends either so let us go and say hi.”

Randal placed Ivory in front of him and gently pushed and guided her towards Hakai who looking rather bemused at the little white haird girl that Randal was pushing towards her.

“Heyya Hakai, long time no see, I dropped you the details of the quest in your interface.” Randal spoke quickly to Hakai in a sing-song manner. “This here is Ivory, she will be joining us if you decided that you want to come along.”

Ivory turned around, staring at the woman who was nonchalantly smoking after apparently shoving a faune over. Ivory would have been very distraught after whatever had happened, but the woman just seemed to not care like she caused commotion regularly and this was a common occurrence. "She doesnt seem like the kind of person you want around influencing you..." She whispered as Randal used her as a human shield despite the fact that they were in a safe zone. She had to wonder what sort of woman this was for Randal to be acting so weird. She looked up at the slightly taller woman as they arrived, a little intimidated by her presence, but always happy to make friends. "Nice to meet you. I like your hair, it looks very cute." She commented, figuring that starting with a compliment would be the best way to start getting on her good side.

There was a sigh as Hakai watched Randal comically push someone else towards her, seemingly using her as a shield which was a very weird concept in itself. The girl herself just looked like your typical naive cannon fodder. She raised an eyebrow as they finally arrived, leaning back up against the tree she had been relaxing next to. She was here for this quest, might as well knock it out with these two since they were here. "I saw that you did, and I know you don't need me for this." She paused, arms crossed and fingers tapping impatiently. "So why are you trying to bring me with you?" She paused, turning to face the white haired woman.

"And you..." She looked over at the woman, Ivory or something similar, with a scowl. It looked like she was about to say something rude, or tell the girl to shut up and go away for a moment, but instead her face broke into a friendly smile. "It is really nice to meet you too Ivory. And I'm glad you noticed, I put a little extra effort into it today." The friendly response would definitely seem off to Randal, but she didn't really care, someone like this Ivory chick seemed like the perfect sort to teach how the world worked and Hakai was the woman for the job.

She unsheathed her sword, laying it over her shoulder like a baseball bat with a clank. "Anyway, lets just get this over with. What have you been up to Randal?" She asked, seeming a bit more genuine talking to Randal.

“The company is good, isn’t it? Besides, you never know what’s going to happen in this death game so it’s always good to have a friend watch your back.” Randal explained why he was trying to drag Hakai along with him to fight the Hoya’s. There was another saying in Aincrad that Randal conveniently left out and that was the fact that sometimes players were more dangerous than the monsters they were fighting, Randal definitely did not think that Ivory would do something like that, but he was sad to admit to himself that he did not know Hakai that well. She seemed like someone who could kill another player, so Randal was going to stay watchful of his own back until he could trust her.

“You know, just rolling in dirt as usual, hitting out some quests here and there and making new friends.” Randal jestered, though he was 100% serious about what he had been doing before coming to the 3rd floor.

The party headed towards Larbrook to initiate the rest of the quest and was instructed to travel to the Forest of Wavering Mists to find the minotaurs, Larbrook seemed excited to be a part of the party so Randal invited him to come along if he would stay quiet.

Ivory hummed to herself happily. Despite first impressions Hakai seemed like a friendly enough person, and she certainly looked reliable. The woman was very straight to the point and didn't seem one to waste time, but those were admirable qualities, ones that Ivory tended to lack. Her eyes widened in surprise at Randals response to the question Hakai had asked. "Randal! Why are you rolling around in the dirt? And without me at that!" Being completely oblivious to how that might sound. She had no idea why he would be doing that, but it sounded like fun. She turned to Hakai as they added the NPC to their party and started to make their way to the Labyrinth, smiling excitedly at the other woman. "So Hakai, do you have a boyfriend yet? There are a lot of smart strong and cute guys around, someone tall and cute like you probably has to fight them all off, huh? Even though you look a little rough around the edges." The ditz of a woman started to ramble at the new addition to their party.

Hakai was well aware how she tended to be viewed when she acted like herself, and thought that it was very strange to want someone like her to watch their back. She sighed, smoke drifting out of her mouth as she looked about with a sullen look on her face as they approached the labyrinth. "I think its a joke Ivory. Randal here is a funny guy, you're lucky to have someone like him." She responded, completely misunderstanding the situation. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, giving the girl what appeared to be a sad but friendly smile. "And no, I don't have anyone anymore. A lot happens in this game, you lose people as fast as you find them. Its better to stick to yourself." She shrugged and looked away, signaling that that conversation was over. It was hidden to Ivory, but she looked very unhappy for a moment before recovering. The light that managed to break through the curtain of leaves above formed patterns on the forest floor and she allowed herself to get distracted in them rather than think about the frustrations of the past.

“Ah…That…Well sorry, Hakai was right, it was just a joke, but I will let you know next time if I’m making plans to roll around in the dirt.” Randal was speechless due to Ivory’s reaction to him rolling around in the dirt.  A little embarrassed that the things he did to gather materials really was like rolling around in the dirt.

All those feelings went away when the party reached closer to the Forest and Ivory started going on about the topic of loved ones. That was a difficult conversation for Randal to partake in, so he walked a little faster and caught up to Larbrook who had been leading the way. He was far enough to look uninterested, but close enough to eavesdrop. Randal felt guilty, guilty that he felt bad about the love of his life who managed to escape the death game while others had lost their loved ones to the death game. He felt like if he were to bring it up, that they would cuss him out for being so emotional when the person he was talking about was at least alive.

The party had crossed over to the Forest and was now looking for the minotaur.

Ivory had no idea that Randal felt strongly about talking about loved ones, or she wouldnt have brought it up. And she still had no idea, as she wasnt known to be the most observant person in the world and she completely glossed over the fact in her mind that Randal had moved away from them because of the topic. She just thought he wanted some alone time.

"Thats a dumb idea Hakai, people are great, and its better to love them and then lose them than never love them at all." She frowned, looking like she was thinking very hard. "I think that's a famous quote from something or other..." She frowned for a moment before shaking her head. It wasn't important. "Anyway, people are social by nature, some just more than others. It must be lonely living like that, i'm glad you got out and are hanging out with us now." She smiled at Hakai as they finally entered the labyrinth. She looked over to Randal. "I really like you, and Randal does too, right Randal?" She called out to him.

Hakai scowled, disapproving of the notion. She definitely didn't like her ideas being called dumb either, especially by this ditz of a woman. This Ivory girl acted like such a child, with her naive notions and beliefs. Hakai bet she'd never even lost someone and yet she was out here preaching. She sighed, calming down a little. She was good at that, short term control of her emotions, but it always burst out at some point. She'd probably be punching a rock later having an outburst.

"Oh really? The feeling isn't mutual, for either of you." She responded to the assertion that they both liked her. She definitely didnt like Ivory, and she also didnt like Randal, but she had much more neutral feelings towards him. He was alright in her books. She sighed, placing a hand on her face momentarily. "Sorry, that was really rude. Your philosophies are naive and they struck a chord with me, and not in a good way." She explained.

Randal heard what both of the ladies behind him had said and instinctively looked up at Larbrook for help but it would appear that either the NPC was making the wisest decision to stay out of it all together or that he was not able to respond to cues outside of those related to the quest.

“Yea, I like the both of you, wouldn’t have invited the two of you if I could not stand you. To me, you’re both like a breath of fresh air,” Randal smiled gently hiding the truth well as he spoke in half-truths, “Ivory, you’re direct and remain optimistic even in bad situations while Hakai, you’re direct in a different way, you do not mince your words and say what you mean, which is better than being a kind of politician and beating around the bush,” Randal said, speaking like a politician.

We should encounter the minotaur soon though, there have been traces of its presence.

Ivory smiled happily at Randal complimenting her, not really caring that Hakai said she didn't like her. If Ivory believed her she would have been devastated, but she knew that everyone liked her. It was just hard for some people to admit. "I like you too Randal, you keep things exciting, and even though you can be a little weird I feel comfortable hanging out with you." She responded looking down a little shyly. The moment was broken a moment later as she pitched forward, falling forward and barely catching herself with her hands. Upon further inspection she had tripped on a depression in the ground that they walked on, a large, hoof shaped footprint. She struggled back to her feet, looking around carefully. That probably meant the minotaur was close.

The light seemed to dim, the semi-cheerful air of the group evaporating as a loud inhuman howl was heard from just a bit further on in the maze, and then a loud thudding sound that shook the ground they stood on with each one. The beast rounded the corner at full steam, howling once more. It was clad in full plate armor and wielding a massive sword and shield. The minotaur stared at them for a moment, its hoof pawing at the ground as it prepared to charge at them. "Excuse me sir, we don't have to fight! No one has to fight, we can all just live and let live, right?" She called out to the creature, although it only seemed to take it as an insult, its focus now on her.

Hakai on the other hand, didn't say anything back to Randal, but was visibly proud of what he had said, even though it wasn't all that much. Although she wasn't here searching for anyone else's approval, it still as kind of nice to hear that her straightforwardness was appreciated. The moved further into the eastern part of the maze, Hakai making note of the many signs that they were drawing closer to their quarry. A tuft of fur caught on a thorny branch, the occasional dash of blood, a footprint.... These things weren't very obvious, but they also certainly weren't hidden. However, it appeared that it took Ivory getting her foot in a hoofprint and tripping to even notice one of the signs. The girl was a clutz, she was oblivious, and most of all she was ridiculously annoying with her cheerfulness and weird pacifist ideas.

The minotaur clopped around the corner, feet slamming violently into the ground with each step. Hakai wasnt phased. This guy was a small fry, she didnt think he could even hurt her. It seemed Ivory was taking the lead. Perfect. With the Minotaurs aggro on her, Hakai was free to purposefully miss her attack and maybe the minotaur would kill the other girl. She swung at the air, missing the minotaur by a mile. "Whoops."

The trek through the Forest of Wavering Mists was a decently long one, they were practically lost for an hour and following Larbrook hoping that he would be able to decern the right direction there were meant to be headed towards.

The signs were right in front of the party, to mention again the various hints and imagery that pointed out that the quarry was around the area would be redundant, both Ivory and Hakai made it obvious with their verbal and nonverbal cues.

Almost on cue, a massive shadow loomed over the relatively tiny girl as it scrambled towards the party. Trying to parlay with the beast only seemed to enrage it further, its focus heavily on Ivory and nearly blind to the more dangerous threats in the party.

Randal had always been a step behind Hakai in terms of initiative, the battle-crazed girl had seen her fair share of fighting and was often quick to react to situations that were combat related. She was the first to move, swinging her blade but missing her mark by a substantial amount.

Randal found that his gear kicked into action and he followed closely behind Hakai, his movement in tandem with Hakai as he utilised the opening that she gave in the form of her actions to carve a blood symphony that the whole forest could hear.

Not one to be left behind, Larbrook joined in the fun and crashed down on the minotaur and the party watched as their teamwork left the beast slain and vanquished.

Three amulets fell from the body of the minotaur which were collected by Larbrook.

Ivory wanted to celebrate, but she felt like she needed to respect the death of another creature. Its death had been necessary, but she felt a little saddened anyway. She glanced over at Randal. He was very strong, she had seen him fight before, but she was still very impressed. Hakai on the other hand... Well, she hadnt accomplished anything. She supposed that the girl was putting up a strong facade because she was weak; It was probably a defense mechanism of some kind, to scare off potential player killers or something. She felt a little bad for her.

"Nice one Randa! I guess we turn around and go the other way or something now?" She asked. This time doing the quest had gone way smoother than the last time. Last time they had had a full party and some guy named Freyd, but he hadnt been helpful at all honestly and she had been less than impressed. He had acted so cool and then hed only done 1 point of damage. Some people just didnt live up to the hype. "Onwards!" She declared dramatically, raising her hand in the air and pointing in the complete wrong direction.
