[PP/FL23] A Thought About Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

"Baldur!"

The hunter called out as the door flew open, and threw his friend against the wall.  Everything happened rather fast.  From having questions asked to combat initiating, Hirru wasn't sure what happened.  However, what he did know was that this dungeon boss knew more than he let on.

"If you wanna know, I got it for services rendered."

He would then plant his foot hard into the D. Elf's foot, then used his charge ability at point blank range, using the speed instead upon his blade.  Galaxy Destroyer ripped through the antiroyalist's armor, as if it was wet clay.  Soon, though he would be thrown off by the heavy momentum, making him fall back a bit to accommodate the weight of his Fang.

"By helping kill your Council, except one."

The Antiroyalist would scream in pain as he got sliced through quite heavily from two different directions.  It wouldn't be much more until they kill the boss and be done with it all.  Hirru didn't want to continue talking about that time any more.

The dark elf attempted to stand after Baldur's <<bull rush>> and Hirru's devastating critical hit, but he couldn't find his feet in time before Baldur was already on the menace. His katana cut down in a flurry of blows that would have looked wild if they weren't animated by the system that gave him super human strength and speed. Instead, the arcs of inky darkness that revealed the night sky no mater where struck, tore into the sub dungeon boss. The red wires that animated his shape and gave him volume were exposed by the deep slashes.

"So it was you *cough* people *cough* that did this to us."

The dark elf struggled to his feet.

"You're the ones who trussed up your own queen like some kind of display piece and lied to your people."

It was uncommon for Baldur to engage with NPCs in a situation like this, but he knew it weighed heavily on Hirru. He stepped to the side as soon as the system would allow to let Hirru get his own follow up hit off. One more good hit, maybe two, and this boss would expire.

"Let's end this!"

Seeing that Baldur was doing well in ripping into the boss, the hunter would want to continue the onslaught as soon as he possibly could.  When the freezing effect from the cooldown had settled, Hirru had already set upon breaking the bosses armor.  With the new Shatter ability, he had been constantly trying to use it whenever possible.  This situation would be no exception, as the hunter jumped forward to allow the first thrust of Calamitous Disaster to have more power.  The hit was true as the thrust went straight into the dark elf's gut before the art pulled back and slashed down to the left, then immediately pulled back for another thrust.  This one would repeat the pull back and slash down, but to the right this time.  This process would repeat once more before the art was done.  It felt weird to the hunter, as it felt familiar in some way, but much slower than what he knew.  Where did he know that from?

Though, as the hunter was lost in thought, the Anti-Royalist finally took out his increasing anger.  Finally grabbing the long curved sword from his hip, similar to the one the blood crazed Rori from the third floor seemed to wield.  If this one had the bleeding and critical advantage that the floor boss had, then they were in trouble.  He seemed to slightly dance with the blade, but it was all just a trick of the eye.  Hirru's search and detect would find it as the after image left behind, in the dark ichor, would dissipate.  It used the mess to take advantage of Baldur's constant assault to rip into him as the samurai would come up for his next attack.

"A little somethin' *cough*cough*cough* ole Rori taught me."

"Baldur!"

"A little somethin' *cough*cough*cough* ole Rori taught me." The Dark Elf taunted Baldur, revealing that he had a substitution effect of some kind, leaving behind an after image and assaulting Baldur from his blind spot.

"Baldur!" He smiled at the concern he heard in his friend's voice.

"This trick only works once." Baldur said, suddenly thrusting his sword backwards, as if to stab himself, but instead the blade missed his own side, coming through the blind spot created by his haori, and drove into the dark elf. Baldur quickly pivoted suddenly bringing the elf in front of him, and tore the katana out of the figure, leaving it to crash to the ground as the last of its health bar was depleted.

"You'll never find the boy *cough* we've made sure that." Baldur shot Hirru a quizzical glance, and then the dark elf exploded into a shower of luminous polygonal fragments, and then to nothing.

Baldur whipped his sword around in a way Hirru had seen hundreds of times, as Baldur sheathed his katana in one long, ritualized, fluid motion.

"What do you think he meant by that? It was kind of a weird encounter for a sub dungeon."

Hirru had to think on the matter, but it was only to collect his scattering thoughts.  He started to pace a bit through the broken room before looking to Baldur.

"I don't like to admit it, but I think the game set this up.  Trying to taunt us with the events of this floors boss fight."

The hunter shook his head.  It was too much of a coincidence to be anything but that.

"You said you got the map for this from the last hit on Eva.. the council.  It could be that it was originally going to lead into a event, or what not."

Hirru looked out into the hallway that the Antiroyalist came in from.  He signaled for Baldur to follow.  Down the hallway, they found a door that lead to a rather large office area.  This was probably that dark Elf Antiroyalists domain, if they hadn't kept it waiting.

"Let's search around.  See if we can't find anything, loot or otherwise.

He said while equipping his Favor of the Golden Dragon for better luck.

"Hmm... that's a good point I hadn't considered. I had thought all three of these dungeon maps were for this floor because it was the highest at the time. I never considered it came from the council, and may actually be records of their head quarters." The gaijin rubbed his chin in thought.

"I wonder if we followed all three of these maps, if we would unlock some kind of event, or find the one that got away. Maybe even reveal the truth of this place to the people of this floor."

Baldur rested his hand on the katana at his side in his normal, nonchalant way as he scanned the room. He hadn't invested back into Search & Detect yet, but it was something he wanted to eventually pick up again.

"I will say though." He gave his viridian haired friend a smile, "It feels good to fight with you at my side again."

He poked and prodded and the piles of paper in the office, "Looks like a few of these drawers are locked. Maybe there's clues in there too?"

Following through to his words, the hunter started to scavenge through the room.  For a while, it was mostly inspecting any books and documents that were spread around, but none seemed to have anything that he could easily decipher.  Everything was in a runic language that the hunter didn't understand at all, as if the game didn't want to give him the answers he was looking for.  Though, that did not mean that he couldn't learn.

"If I had a cypher or something.."

When Hirru heard Baldur talk about the council again, the hunter realized something.  Each one seemed to mirror the players: Leader, DPS, Status, Tank, Support.  This base was obviously the one that belonged to Rori, the DPS of the group.  A heavy hitter that didn't think about much, but was clever enough to slice where it counted.  Who was the one that had the most knowledge?  The status user.. what was his name again..?  He seemed to know a bit, but the leader was also knowledgeable.

It was there that the samurai expressed his gratitude for fighting with the hunter once more.  This made Hirru stop for a couple seconds.  They had known each other for nearly an unknown amount of time, but it was certain that they had burned through quite a few floors together, and survived the most impossible fights.  He may have missed this last one, but he'll be there for the twenty sixth.

"You too.  I could use some tuning up, but it's good to be back in the game."

The hunter would turn his attention to the desk that Baldur had pointed out.  It seemed like this entire cabinet was some sort of treasure chest, as trying to unlock it normally would cause the system to send a screeching ping into his ear.

"Well, I'm pretty sure there is something important in here, but I don't have any keys, or the lockpicking skills to do so.  Do you have any?"

"No, no keys, but I can try something..." Baldur suddenly blurred, his armed moving slightly, and then returning to his stance, the only change being that the top of the desk suddenly flew away from them, clattering against the wall on the other side of the room. Baldur winced slightly and then rubbed at one ear.

"Alright, so maybe I won't do that regularly, but at least we're in." He gave a chuckle as the inventory window suddenly popped up.

"A decent hall, though nothing particularly interesting. I don't really care for any of it other than the mats, if you want the rest."

Baldur passed the interface window over to Hirru so he could loot what he wanted from the desk.

"Maybe if we spend some time reviewing those notes and trying to decipher it, it'll lead us onto the next safe house. Maybe there's an NPC we could ask to translate it too."

He pulled some papers out of the drawer as well, but they were more runic letters he couldn't read. He set them on the desk so Hirru could pick them up if he wanted.

"Shall we head back now? We can chase this lead down once we've gotten these translated."

Adjusted Dungeon reward to full 3.1 T4 (8250 EXP instead of 7750).  Stats update as follows:

Hirru receives:

21112 EXP (Word Count [1440*6] + 8250 [T4 Dungeon, 3 waves] + 25% from event)

Other rewards unaffected.

Staff Ruling:

In light of the fact that the dungeon map used was a special reward for the Floor 23 boss, staff have agreed to treat this thread as if it was a T4 dungeon map and will hand waive the mechanical implications in this unique case.  Both players will gain standard T4 dungeon rewards for v3.1 (EXP and wave bonuses).  Event bonuses also apply.  Baldur's remaining F23 reward maps will become standard T4 Random Dungeon Maps from this point forward.
