Summary:

"You there! Stop, please!" A man approaches you with long, purposeful strides. "Pardon me, but I am in need of some assistance, and you appear quite capable." Giving the NPC your attention, he heaves a quick sigh, adjusting the monocle over his right eye. "My name is Dorian, and I am the mayor of this town. As part of those mayoral duties, I issued a small loan to a member of the community a few months ago. Well, the time to collect had come around and I-" Flustered, Dorian systematically runs his fingers over his perfect mustache. "You see, I've forgotten who it was I loaned the money to. Terribly embarrassing, I know, but I am a very busy man, and I cannot keep track of everything that happens. I'm sure you understand." With a wave of his hand, Dorian continues, "Should you be willing to track down the loan recipient for me, and collect the col, I would be eternally grateful. Just, maybe don't let anyone else know I forgot who the loan went to?"

Upon acceptance of the quest, Dorian nods. "Excellent, I knew I could count on you! You might start with Zackariah, the alchemist. He's often doing projects for the town, so it may have been him that borrowed the money."

As you enter Zackariah’s shop, you are met with shelves and shelves of colorful potions in various vials and jars. “Oh, hello," comes the distracted greeting from behind the counter. A man with a long, snow-white beard glances up from a bubbling cup of sweet-smelling purple liquid. "Are you here to order something? I’m sorry, but I am currently swamped with orders, and I’m running out of supplies.” Light comes into the man's dark eyes, a lightbulb going off to signify a brilliant idea. “Would you gather a few materials for me? Flowers, herbs, rare woods, whatever you can find outside the city walls. I promise I’ll help you fill your order as soon as you return. In fact, I would be willing to show you how to do it yourself.”

Outline:

After receiving your instructions from Darian and Zackariah, head out into the wilds of Floor One and roleplay gathering the necessary components.

Gather (5) T1 Materials by making LD rolls.  Each rolls requires a post and succeeds on an LD of 11+.

*Note: The LD: 11+ is for this quest only. Normally, gathering materials requires an LD of 15+.

Once you have collected the required materials, return to Zackariah's shop and make crafting rolls.  Zackariah will give the player as many materials as necessary until the player crafts a Healing Potion of Uncommon or higher quality. The player will no longer be able to craft after succeeding in crafting a potion. Also, players will not retain leftover materials gathered in the first part of the quest.  You will receive 5 materials as part of the quest rewards as recompense. Zackariah is patient and will not berate players for failing. A player can make as many attempts in one post as is necessary to successfully craft the potion using the following:

  • Craft (1) Healing Potion of Uncommon or greater quality.
    • 1-3 = Fail, try again | 4-6 = Uncommon Quality (Success) | 7-9 = Rare Quality (Success) | 10-12 = Perfect Quality (Success)

Note: If more than one player is taking the quest for the first time, each is responsible for collecting their own materials, and crafting their own potion.

It had been some time since Faustein had become trapped in the VRMMORPG world of SAO or Sword Art Online alongside hundreds of other newbie players who had logged in as well on that one fateful day. All things considered, that first login day had been quite the interesting experience for Faustein even with the knowledge he had from his thorough perusal of all the disastrous news reports about the game before his login. First there was the sight of the entire sky over the Town of Beginnings being covered over completely with light red announcement popups which had been followed by Kayaba manifesting himself in midair as a gargantuan avatar which took the form of an ominous-looking hooded figure that was completely swaddled in a crimson red cloak and which formed from the confluence of several large, scarlet liquid streams that had flowed down from the borderlines of each of the popups that had covered the sky back then. Then, there was Kayaba's shocking revelation about how Faustein and the rest of his fellow newbie players were to be permanently trapped in the virtual game world until the entirety of the floating castle of Aincrad with its 100 floors were cleared successfully someday. After that, Kayaba had something else even more disturbing to inform Faustein and the other newbie players about, namely that it was impossible to voluntarily log out by any means and that if anyone from the outside tried to remove the NerveGear rigs on the players' heads, then the devices would destroy their brains via output of high power microwave radiation. As if that were not surprising and disheartening enough, there was the last fact that Kayaba had supplied them all with, this being the information that if the players' avatars were to have their HP bars dropped to 0, then the NerveGear rigs would once again automatically output high power microwave radiation to destroy the players' brains in the real world to put an eternal end to their waking life. Finally, there had been Kayaba's parting gift that he had given to all the trapped players including Faustein, this being a nondescript mirror which caused everyone's avatars to transform into carbon copies of their real world bodies, a fact that had thoroughly disconcerted everyone...well, everyone except Faustein because he had a far higher tolerance for the unexpected than most of his peers.

Naturally, several moments had passed after Kayaba and his avatar dissipated following the end of his introductory announcements after which some random girl had screamed her lungs out, causing the rest of the newbie players to stampede in a frenzy, causing mass panic to ensue amongst their ranks. Then, there had been the crying, the terrified screaming, and the enraged tirades against Kayaba from the more hot-headed and overly emotional of the newbie players which had amused Faustein even more while he simply sat there enjoying watching the chaotic scene unfold before his eyes while ensuring to stay well out of the way of the crazed and rabid newbie players. In the several days and weeks that had followed this chaos, several players had either been killed by mobs for being foolish enough to charge recklessly into the wilderness outside the Town of Beginnings while other had chosen to voluntarily end their lives by jumping off some balustrade or another out of sheer desperation once the realization that they would never see their kith and kin again for a long time had set in completely. Then, there had been those like Faustein who had instead chosen to channel their energies into more constructive avenues by doing as much research about the world of SAO as they could so that they could build their avatars and all the aspects of their character up, slowly but steadily. That brings the story up to present day, wherein Faustein awoke on the semi-firm bed in the room at one of the inns he had rented for some minimal fee to serve as his base of operations for the time being.

Alright, I do believe that I have done an adequate amount of preliminary research about this game world up till now...so with that in mind, it is time to start my character's progress in earnest...specifically by taking up that introductory questline I came across some time back...

Musing thus silently, Faustein dragged himself out of bed languorously and then proceeded to ready himself for another long day's work in his usual signature outfit, namely his physician-scientist's outfit which he had calibrated to double as Light Armor in the way of defensive means. Then, he strapped his 6' long, Assault Spear-type giant scalpel which he had since dubbed as "Gungnir" into its holster which he had slung across his back and headed out into the Town of Beginnings which was the official safe zone for Floor 1 and started to make his way towards the quest board to formally accept the first quest in the introductory questline as per his prime directive for the day. Little did he know that he was soon to meet a rather intriguing individual during the course of this character building project of his.

Lessa

As she went to turn down another street, a flash of white caught Lessa's attention. When she turned, those lake-blue eyed widened first with surprise, then appreciation. "Hey!" she shouted, lifting a hand in greeting. When the other Player did not turn around, the Guardian deduced he hadn't heard her over the noise. So she closed the distance with a few long strides, then reached for his shoulder. Her fingertips danced lightly over the coat's coarse fabric as she said again, "Hey."

Then she held up both hands, her smile both apologetic and sheepish. "Sorry," she began hastily, "I didn't mean to sneak up on you. I called out earlier, but I guess you didn't hear me." After so many years in the death game, Lessa understood what it meant to be jumpy. "I just wanted to say that your lab coat is super awesome. I've never seen one like it in the game before."

Faustein had been perusing the posted notice about the intro questline in an effort to analyze and memorize the details once more and had been lost deep in thought. Thus, this current state of his combined with the near-deafening din made by the crowds of players and NPCs in his vicinity, all of whom were milling about on the streets of the <<Town of Beginnings>> caused him to miss detecting someone calling out to him. It was only after he felt the touch of fingers grazing the surface of his custom Light Armor suit aka his physician-scientist's outfit that he realized someone was standing directly behind him.

Well now, this is intriguing...I did not expect for someone to come engage me in conversation given that I am not acquainted with anyone in this game yet...

He mused silently as he turned around briskly on his heel, his action resembling a standard about-face maneuver done by a soldier in some formal standing military force causing the tail end of his long white lab coat to make a gentle swishing noise as it fluttered about in the air due to the swift motion and brought his gaze to bear upon whomever it was that had greeted him. That someone turned out to be an unfamiliar face, that of a blonde-haired, lake blue-eyed woman clad in clearly well-crafted armor from head to toe and who easily emanated an air of a veteran player even to his newbie self. So, he opened with his initial remarks, his voice revealing itself to be a rich, resounding baritone and melodious one, something that usually caught people by surprise given his more than slight frame of build and young looking countenance, but it remained to be seen what the woman before him would think

"Ah, that is quite alright. Please allow me to apologize in return for not hearing you, mademoiselle. You see, I was highly engrossed in my reverie concerning this introductory questline that I am intending to take today to formally begin my career and advancement in the VRMMORPG world of SAO and perhaps the cacophony of the surrounding crowd drowned out your voice."

Of course, he was not one to usually abide by the common social mores and dictums, but since the woman before him was an unknown variable with currently unknown parameters in every sense of the word, he figured it would be best to err on the side of caution and make his voice and words be as cordial as he possible could make them, given his total lack of social skills. He paused here for a split second and then continued after considering his reply to the praise she had given to his lab coat and his choice to wear one as opposed to the more medieval looking armor worn by the majority of players and which was sold in the standard merchant shops in SAO

"Well, I figured it would differentiate me from the rest of the pack and it is an outfit that I am quite familiar with even in the real world, hence my choice to customize my armor to resemble it. I am glad to hear that you find it so appealing, Miss..."

He trailed off there in the manner that people usually did when they were talking to an unfamiliar person and were attempting to ask them their name after which he fell silent, awaiting her response and reactions to his own.
