[PP-F22] The Ivory Citadel

"What, you know this one?" Vigilon asked when the enemy seemed to recognize Dazia, as though she were the original target. Now, it was Vigilon who found himself having to fend off the monster. "Well, if you've faced someone like her before, do you know how you beat her last time?" He asked, hoping there was a weakness in the foe's tactics.

Vigilon attempted an attack of his own, but the enemy dodged this attack as easily as she did Dazia's. "And I thought I had the tough enemies..." He thought. He grimaced as the enemy slashed him pretty badly, but thankfully he didn't have to worry about any ailments. All he could hope for now was that the battle would be turned around in the players' favor, and quickly! Of course, Vigilon did find himself wondering what exactly was it that brought bad blood between Dazia and whoever this enemy had taken the appearance of...

Vigilon had no clue who this Apparition had taken the form of. Which was to be expected, as he was never there that day. "She looks like Lupix, though I know for a fact that she's not." Dazia stated. The Apparition shot a quick glare towards Dazia. "And what makes you think I'm not?" She demanded, before turning her attention back to Vigilon. "Because I killed Lupix. If I didn't, an innocent player named Yinangi might not have lived to tell the tale." Dazia answered, as she held her weapon, looking for a proper opening to time her attack to as the enemy clashed with Vigilon. "Tell me, do you think a monster would save an innocent life?" Dazia questioned.

The time to attack had come, but this was apparently expected, as the false Lupix blocked the attack with her dagger. "Killing, to save a life?" The Apparition shot back. "Bullshit." She growled. "You didn't have to keep going in that duel, but what did you do? You kept attacking. You didn't kill me because you had to, you killed me because it was easy for you."

Anguished, Dazia applied pressure and force to shove the false Lupix away. if Vigilon wasn't taking this chance now, his next attack would go just as well as the last.

Dazia claimed that this enemy was merely another apparition that had taken the form of someone she'd killed, in which this kill had saved another's life, particularly Yinangi's. The false Lupix disengaged with Vigilon as to block Dazia's attack, and proceeded to claim that Dazia didn't make the kill to save Yinangi. This agitated Dazia, as though the claim was either false, or had struck a nerve.

Vigilon activated his sword art once Dazia provided an opening, and he managed to deal damage this time, knocking the foe's HP to the yellow. "She could have easily kept attacking because you kept attacking." Vigilon pointed out. "Otherwise, it would have simply been a misjudgment that cost someone's life. Either way, she did what she thought had to be done." The first response Vigilon got was another well placed attack against him. Maybe at this point he should be used to getting hit by a weapon as a response to his words...

Vigilon did what he was supposed to do, which helped, as the battle was now halfway over.

The false Lupix shook her head. "Clearly, you wouldn't get it." The apparition most likely still intended to kill Vigilon and Dazia, but it seemed that the apparition had an expression showing...potential regret? That didn't make sense with this situation. "You weren't there, so you wouldn't know...but even if the girl was innocent, Dazia here was completely in the wrong by murdering me! Even you should be able to understand!" She claimed.

Dazia had grown tired of this. "I've heard more than enough, let's just get this over with, the past should remain in the past."
With that, Dazia prepared her weapon to make another attack, but her foe would deflect her blade and proceed to disarm her, giving itself a chance to try taking on Vigilon without having to deal with Dazia for a quick moment at the very least.

Well, he tried to make this opponent understand...oh well.

Heck, the enemy could have easily seen this the same way...and it seemed the only way out of this impasse was to make someone bleed.

So, naturally, Vigilon decided it would be the opposing force that receives the pain...and disarming Dazia actually gave Vigilon the opening he needed. He readied his sword art, and dealt a heavy blow against the adversary, dropping the enemy's HP down into the red. He then entered a blade lock against the opponent, right after it delivered a cut against him. "Now, Dazia! Get your weapon and finish it!" He called out, hoping she would do just that...after all this was her former foe, not Vigilon's.

A question remained within Vigilon's mind...why were these opponents all looking like fallen players? These clearly weren't ghosts, nor were they players...so what was the deal with them? It was then that he actually looked at the enemy's name, shifting from one name to the entity's actual name, <<Memory Wraith>>.

These things had other goals and reasons for trying to kill Vigilon and Dazia, they simply took the forms of the fallen to mess with the two.

Words were no longer needed. There was just the battle.

However...Vigilon's attack not only dropped the monster's HP into the red, but revealed it for what it was. The eyes of the false Lupix glowed a different color, something was breaking down as it had a frustrated expression on its face. "FINE THEN! If you want to stop playing about, be my guest! Let's end this!"

The monster became translucent, before collapsing into its cloak, now it had many cloaks, all shifting between black and white, while the glowing red eyes could be seen from this strange, unnatural being. Dazia grabbed her blade and attempted to strike from behind, but with a swift, circular movement, it deflected Dazia's blade and returned to trying to face Vigilon. "Take it down!" Dazia called out, in case he was capable of dealing the final hit.

Only thing that Dazia failed to understand...what did it have to gain from this? Of course, she didn't care about this question, so the answer wouldn't matter either.

So much for finishing this fight quickly.

The Memory Wraith shifted into its true self, and when it moved to deflect Dazia's attack, Vigilon readied his sword art to attack. What he wasn't expecting, however, was what happened next.

The strange, unusual fabric-like, cloak-like stuff that may have been part of the Memory Wraith grabbed Vigilon's weapon by the blade, and Vigilon held onto the hilt of his sword, very tightly...and the result was the monster flailing him about, slamming him down upon the floor of the room numerous times in succession. Truly, a Loki vs Hulk moment...didn't Thor encounter this too? Either way, Marvel Asgardians vs Hulk madness aside, Vigilon wasn't feeling his best, his body tingling all over, and his HP nearing Yellow. This wasn't good.

Dazia was gonna need to do something, and fast. He didn't know if he could keep up against this one, it was awfully dangerous, and it had clearly stopped playing around.

Dazia watched as the monster took advantage of its form, wrapping itself around Vigilon's weapon and flailing him about. Dazia closed the distance while it was distracted, and attacked when it was finished flailing her ally about.

The monster fully collapsed within itself, before becoming a singularity that shattered. The battle was finally over. "Finally...damn thing was more trouble than it was worth..." She remarked. "I'm starting to wonder if we should keep exploring, I don't want to encounter more of these nuisances. The fact that this one was nearly a legitimate threat to you is actually kind of concerning..." She added. She didn't want to admit that she was starting to get worried, but treating it like it calls for caution might be a better way to put it. She made her way to the end of the room, and she gestured for Vigilon to follow.
When the two players opened the door, light shone, making it impossible to see for a short moment. When the light faded, The two players could see an open archway to a large room with a spiral staircase, right in the middle of an even larger room.
"...This might lead somewhere important. If we're going to find anything worth investigating, it's probably in there." She thought aloud. "We might need to proceed with caution, any of those...things... could be lurking about."

Vigilon got up, with some difficulty. He sure hoped the rest of whatever lurks around here were nothing like whatever the hell he just fought and nearly got pummeled by. "I'm actually right with you there, that was too close for comfort." He replied to her words.

He didn't know if it was luck, he didn't know if it was the Cardinal, he didn't even know if it was just the odd layout of the place itself...but man, was he glad the potential target area of the structure was now before the two players. "...Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go, before anything weird finds us." He decided.

The two would enter the room, it was definitely sizable and spacious, but there was also something else there. A pedestal with three slots. There was already a slot with a yellow token filling it. Vigilon pulled out the red token from his inventory, and placed it into one of the two empty slots. He then looked to Dazia, who was now holding a blue token in her hand. Once she'd placed the token in, the pedestal then plunged under the floor within a quarter of a second. "...Did we do something right, or are we gonna regret this?" He asked.

A pedestal...with slots shaped and sized like tokens...like that one token that appeared in her inventory when the two left the room. She held the blue token in her hand, staring at it for a short moment, thinking it over, before placing the token in.

The pedestal plunged into the floor, and Vigilon wondered if this was really the right decision.

The ground shook, something was happening. "We need to get up the tower! Now!" Dazia commanded. She then began making her way up the spiral staircase, under the assumption that this must have been the tower of the citadel. She gestured for Vigilon to follow as she did so, and then the two players soon found themselves in another room.

This other room had a spiral staircase as well, but the contents of the room currently did not concern Dazia, for she was only concerned about reaching the top. Six stories later, the two come across a seemingly empty room with some strange statue in the middle. Dazia could have sworn it looked towards her as she made for the room's staircase...

Well...clearly there was something done, either incredibly right or incredibly wrong, for the ground shook. "Yeah, that's not normally a good thing." He remarked. Dazia then decided the two players should move upward...well, no time like the present to get reckless, and if things went to shit then there were always Teleport Crystals, right?

It was almost as though Dazia was starting to get tunnel vision. Sure, the rumors spoke of there being someone of importance at the top of the tower in the Citadel, but not only did Vigilon not have many clues pointing evidence that this particular area was the tower, there was also the factor that when searching for a missing person, you look through every nook and cranny...of course, maybe Dazia wanted to continue her search unhindered by whatever the pedestal was bringing. hopefully it wouldn't chase the players.

Vigilon, admittedly, wasn't as fast as Dazia was, and she was just zooming through the rooms, which, oddly enough, kind of planted a thought in Vigilon's mind. This area...it was almost like it was its own place, its own locale...but even with that hypothesis, the Ivory Citadel didn't make much sense at all. This place would be a tough nut to crack... As for the rooms of the tower itself, Vigilon couldn't tell, because the rooms were shifting while the two players speedran their way up the tower, which, Vigilon was now able to confirm to himself that this was indeed the tower, due to the number of stories it had.

Dazia was growing tired of the shifting rooms. She didn't care what they were, or what purpose they served. She'd already had enough surprises from the place, and if this was where a missing person was stuck, there better be a spot that doesn't change, otherwise, finding the Sky Swords Guild's "Nightingale" would basically be a goose chase due to the entire place being inexplicable.

Out of all the things in the tower, all being the same damn color, a porcelain white, there was but one thing that stood out within that one empty room, the statue that seemed to align its gaze to Dazia as she made her way up with all due haste. Where would this lead? She didn't know what would happen next, but at this rate she was hoping she'd get lucky, after what the two players had been through so far. "This had all better be worth the trouble..." Dazia muttered under her breath, before reaching the next story to reveal a room that didn't shift.

After that suspiciously spacious room with the unsettling, horse-headed statue that stared at the players, its gaze following them as they moved on upward, past the stairs...was a more normal room. Unlike the other rooms, there was no evidence or trace of shifting or movement. Vigilon let out a sigh of relief. "Finally, a more normal room." He thought aloud.

He then looked around this room of the- wait, how far up the tower have they gone at this point? Nine? And the rooms of this tower were tall and spacious, too...

"Well, maybe from here, we can investigate normally, right? I sure hope so...I wouldn't want to rush into anything while our HP still needs to regenerate..." He pointed out, hoping Dazia would allow the two players to take a breather. After all, the fight he'd survived had taken a toll on his HP and he still needed to recover from the battle.

Well, this was a room, all right.
It looked like some kind of hall, decorated only by glowing blue crystals along the walls and some strange decor in the corners. This decor looked like plants with flowers not fully blooming, but they were made of stone and completely white. It was very odd, seeing things like this.

Dazia began to explore the next few rooms of this floor, and found evidence of activity. "Vigilon, over here." She spoke as she gestured for him to head over to her. "See that over there?" She asked, pointing towards an open book with a quill pen and a bottle of ink, atop a desk in this room, which seemed to be a study of sorts.

She would slowly walk over to the desk, looking around for anything that might be hiding in case it was a trap. The book, quill, and ink were all normally colored, so they stuck out like a sore thumb in this abnormally white room. The ink bottle...it was fresh. Someone's been here, be it a player or an NPC. Either way, this book might be able to provide clues as to what was going on here.

The two players would draw near to one of the archways leading to another room, and Dazia would spot something inside it. She would see a book and quill on a desk within the room, which looked like a study at this point. The inkwell was fresh, so this book must have been edited recently, be it by a player or an NPC. Only one way to find out...and that's to read this thing!

Day 537.

The Tower's Guardian still lurks, and the days continue to pass. I heard some chatter from the distance amidst the sounds of the forest. I certainly hope they do not make the same mistake as I have, if they are indeed travelers wandering their way over.

My garden's days are numbered, I should have expected as much from the makeshift soil I formed from what I had available. Soon crop materials will refuse to grow in it, leaving me to have to see if I cannot sneak past the guardian that keeps me trapped up here, for I will grow weary and collapse temporarily, if not permanently, should I happen to starve, and my resources are slowly diminishing.

I'd normally have devised another escape plan, but I'm running out of options, and I tried plan Z about a month ago, to yet another failure that I barely managed to return here with my life.

This could be the end of me, if a miracle doesn't happen soon.

All Vigilon had to do was read the latest page... He didn't know if Dazia had picked up any other books in the study's shelf, which could provide lore on the location...but this had to be addressed. "Dazia...whoever wrote this, they know we came by, but they don't know we're exactly here yet...also...they're in trouble, dealing with a resource shortage. Here, take a look." He explained, handing her the book in progress.

Also, he didn't know if he'd ever have this much patience. 537 days? Yikes...

"Let me see that." Dazia requested.
Upon being handed the book, she began to read what was its latest entry. She then began to backtrack a few pages, before deciding to try and read the first page that had been written in.

Day 401.

I have failed to escape this tower yet again. The Guardian's eye is a watchful one, and I have yet to leave the room unseen. There must be a better way out. I've already tried Plan P, but my lack of success was in the fact that no matter how long I make the "rope", the remaining distance to the ground remains lethal.

I fear that this tower will be the last place I ever know, unless someone who can slay the guardian comes to save me...but I know that the chances are unlikely. They would need to be stronger than I, or have the numbers to make up for a lack of strength. I have faced the beast before during plan D, but not only was I not enough to vanquish the monster, my weapon broke as well.

I tire of having to wait.

Dazia read the page, and noticed that it was listed as day 401. This wasn't the first book to have been written in, there were more. "...This isn't even the first book." She noted. "There's also some kind of monster keeping this person trapped." Due to the lack of additional details, she was unable to tell if a player or an NPC had written this. What she did know, was that due to the fresh inkwell on the desk of this room, whoever had written these was still here.

Now that Dazia had thought about it, if this person was unable to leave because a monster kept trying to kill them... Wait...that statue...

"Wait...this monster...the person who wrote this referred to it as some kind of guardian...that statue...do you think it didn't attack us because it was only meant to keep whatever's up here from coming back down...?"
This person wasn't the only one trapped here anymore. Now Vigilon and Dazia were as well.

"Damn it!"

Given the situation that the two players were in, it would probably be best if the rooms be thoroughly searched, whether it be for evidence of whoever's stuck here being nearby, or something else that either appeared or was never found. Now that Vigilon thought about it, the floor felt odd under his feet during a step or two.

He looked under him and noticed the rug. The colors of the rug were various whites, so it would be difficult to notice to the inattentive eye...but if there was an odd step... He grabbed the rug and pulled, he pulled until he saw what was under it. A near-perfect hole where a white colored treasure chest was, the shapes matched, to boot. Was this a hidden stash, or had the game left this on purpose? "Hey, there's a chest here." He noted. "...It doesn't look player-made, or player used..." He added as he pulled the chest out to observe it.

Dazia didn't hear a direct response to anything she said, in any regards to the current situation. "Hey are you even listening or realizing what I just-"

          "Hey, there's a chest here."

Dazia blinked. "...Huh?" She was confused, not by the fact that he found a chest, but the fact that he completely zoned out from the situation to find that chest. ...Well, might as well make use of this opportunity.

Dazia opened the treasure chest without hesitation. Nothing wrong happened to Dazia's cursor, so this chest's contents were definitely just loot from the game. There, the loot was hers now. Whoever had been holed up in this place for five hundred and thirty seven days and yet not seen this had missed out, but Dazia might be willing to spare some if it were a necessity to do so.

Right, now back to the problem at hand. "Ok, so as I was saying, now we're trapped up here because that statue like thing is apparently keeping things from heading down, but it didn't stop us while we were heading up. Regardless if we find anyone or not, we're gonna need to be battle ready with a battle strategy." Dazia stated.

Vigilon was kind of disappointed that Dazia didn't think about splitting the loot, but he decided to say nothing about it, even though it was he who found the chest in the first place.

Vigilon nodded his head when Dazia spoke. "Yeah, that'll definitely be a problem. We can think of some tactics to discuss with each other as we explore these rooms." He noted.
Vigilon crossed his arms and closed his eyes as he began to think.
"If it's a big, solitary monster that's blocking the way down, and it's been able to fend off a single player, most likely it's got the HP and damage to give the garden variety player a run for their money...that being said, if the only solution ends up being teleport Crystals, we'll need to be ready to pull them out for an escape. We came to investigate, but we didn't come prepared for a monster like that, so if either of our lives are in danger, we shouldn't risk it, and should head back to town with the supplies we need to be able to take it down." He explained, essentially thinking aloud and laying down the probable threat and the reality of risk.
He opened his eyes, then realized he had no idea where he should go next.
"Well, this is your missing person task, so I'll let you lead." He decided.

Vigilon made some solid points. Even if the missing person was here, she could easily flee back to this story of the tower while she waits for Dazia and Vigilon to come back better prepared to take on this monster. It was a definite necessity to lay this fact down, regardless of which of the two players it was. Plenty of players were some pretty good damage dealers, so there were chances that the one who faced this monster didn't have the defenses to survive for very long, or, like Vigilon thought, its own survivability outlasted that of the one who'd fought it before. Dazia hoped that she and Vigilon would be enough to bring it down, she wasn't in the mood to make this harder than it needed to be.

Dazia nodded her head. "Good that you know where we realistically stand in this situation, Vigilon. Now then, we should start looking for a room that might be more likely to have someone around. The inkwell was fresh when we found it, so whoever's been writing this couldn't have gone very far." Dazia responded, before leaving the room, with Vigilon following behind her.
