[EV-F26] Defying Destiny

Recommended Posts

Following the crowd, a few footsteps behind the Broken King, Freyd had remained silent since the results of the vote were announced.  If it meant anything to him, he didn't show it, as he so rarely showed any emotions.  They were a liability, and yet things had been in flux for some time.  It made life easier to portray a façade without caring, or at least detached from any capacity for empathy, but the balance of that inner balance had recently been tipped.  An ancient inner conflict was nearing resolution.  How would it end?

A practiced, neutral expression and steady, forward focused gaze dutifully ignored any engagement.  His mind was elsewhere, dwelling on what should have been excruciating pain or its phantom equivalent.  While the debate had raged, his hands had continued to dissolve, gradually failing to contain the raging hunger of his weapon's core and growing pulses of its darker impulses gnawing away at his damaged digital flesh.  That cold, inner murderbot that was his other facet seemed to be gaining ground.  And then it stopped.

Amputees sometimes report feeling sensations of missing limbs as if they were still there.  For Freyd, his weapon was an extension of himself.  It had become synonymous with his identity.  When he looked down, it was gone and only five-fingered holes is the fabric of space remained where his hands should have been.  Disarmed.  Naked in the middle of a raid that had suddenly gone sideways?  Not good.  Stuffing what remained of the void-wracked appendages into concealed pockets, his throat tensed as he fixated on masking his breathing and keeping his eyes from bulging out of his head.

What the actual fuck?  And... now?!

Naturally, the universe felt fit to intervene with a conveniently-timed distraction.  Rather suddenly, a body came crashing to the ground mere feet from them, fallen from the terraces and rooftops overhead.  It displaced an unpleasant quantity of muck and filth fighting for space with other refuse scattered in the endless maze of back alleys that were the Ladonian slums.  Half of it washed over the Whisper who spat out the bits that had landed in his mouth.  How had he become jaded to such things?  Maybe he was in shock.  Or, once you've tasted Slime King, maybe lesser messes just didn't measure up.  How was this person not a puff of pixels in cloud form dissipating all around them?  It seems the fellow still had a few points left to his name.  Name?  Wait a sec...

"Vigilon?"  Freyd asked flatly as he craned his head up in disbelief, trying to determine how far he must have fallen when an overpowering sense of deja vu came to mind.  "Wait a second.  Didn't we meet like this before?  What is it with you and heights, dude?  Can't you keep your feet on the ground?"

Reaching out without thinking, he made to help the man off the ground.  It wasn't until he'd actually grabbed Vigilon's forearm that he realized his hands were not gone.  But they weren't quite there either.  Just as Samael's Pride had been a sliver of pure nothingness wrapped in some holy seal that kept the ravenous core within at bay, his 'hands' now bore the same limned edges.  It was as if the staff had unraveled, then coiled and wrapped itself around, from the tips of his slender, spider-like digits to a point beyond the cuffs of his sleeves that he dared not explore.  Now was not the time.

"Take a moment to steady yourself," He offered to the injured player.  "Here.  Take this and bring your health back up.  Were you attacked?"  Freyd's eyes narrowed.  "Actually, just say you were.  If you told this lot that you just slipped, they might never let you live it down."

Lamont had just begun to make his way to Gabrandr when he pulled the stone from his pocket. Was he going to use the very limited amount of power he had to try and resurrect the leader of another kingd

"Bloody hell!"

Was all the healer could get out as a falling mass smashed down nearby.  The dust and mess would settle as Freyd had gone over to investigate.  Hirru was going to let the man handle it, as it was probably something that didn't need to be looked into by everyone.  They would all continue to follow Gabrandr through the alleyways, but the healer had to stop.  There was something odd about that falling debris.  Freyd was talking to it, and it talked back.  Hirru rushed to Freyd's side to find that the debris was actually a player.  He ran back to get a closer look.

"How the.. what the.."

The healer didn't understand what the hell was going on, but he could understand one thing.  In game, if one didn't know the player, they could still see the one and only thing given: their health bar.  This man's was in the red.  Almost immediately, the healer clapped his hands together and rubbed them between each other.  Green light would pulse from both of them, as he did.

"Make way, this guy needs healing."

Moving past Freyd, Hirru placed both hands upon the young man and discharged a full First Aid booster upon the lad.  Dusting off his hands, he would nod a bit to the boy apparently named Vigilion, if what Freyd called out was true.

"That'll get you going, just don't go into combat anytime soon, and steer clear of high places."

Baldur winced as they came out of the sewers and back into the bounding light of day. At least they were out... Baldur hated being underground. Dungeons didn't bother him much because they tended to be short and to the point.  Instead the underground floors,  or this boss fight,  seemed to drag on forever.

"Keep together everyone." Baldur told the raid in general but it was mostly for his team.

"Until we have a better idea of what to expect,  be on your guard and watch each other's backs."

He felt more tired then he was.  There was a certain amount of performance to fatigue in SAO, but the tiresness he felt wasn't because of physical exertion but mental and emotional.

"Alright." This time it was mostly for himself, "time to see how far down the rabbit hole goes."

Violet let out a groan as they all started to trudge out of the sewers, a look of irritation on her face. The dull ache of frustration bit into her, along with pent up anger over what had transpired during the very end of the Raid. Jon and Raidou had decided that they would start to bicker as though they were literal children, something that made her blood boil. It hadn't helped that She only found out last minute that Jon was going to be at the raid, and that she only found out after she had already been assigned to Firm Anima... and when she literally had no choice but to be with him. The sharp sensation of of that anger suddenly faded as Jon reached out to clasp her hand, pleading for her to come with him.

The anger swiftly gave way to simple guilt, and she clasped his hand tightly, her eyes squeezed shut. "..." she didn't respond, but she squeezed his hand tighter, moving as close as she could without tripping the blonde. She felt horrible, and she regretted letting herself get forced into being in a seperate party than him. She didn't want to leave him anymore, not like that again. She shivered a bit, before pulling her mask over her face. There was something comforting about being able to hide her facial expression from everybody else. Her emotions didn't matter right now...

... what mattered was checking that what Gabrandr had said was correct.

Zandra, that still remembered how that crazy boss fight had went where they had decided to spare the enemy, obviously voted to finish this off. But since she was a minority, her will was not the action the frontliners choosed. Still, she wouldnt lower her guard. She wasnt ready to use any healing skills, but she made sure she had a healing crystal in her left hand and a steady grip of her dark, two handed axe in her right. In silence, she followed the group of players that pushed forward.

Together, they pushed forward thru what had looked like some kind of underground ruins. Zandra herd the others talking, but she could hear the words. She started to wonder what the path would lead them, and soon she would get the answer. After some walking, they arrived outside. On the streets of a city. She got so surprised she almost dropped the crystal for a moment. This was not what she had expected. Quickly she pulled herself together and followed the group that had continued heading forward. Within long time, there was another bunch of green crystals. But how? The frontlienrs was the first that had killed the floor boss. How was those players here?

A look of pity would show on his face as he looked upon the cowering masses. Most of them were Ladonians, terrified of something going on within their home. They needed to find out what was going on. Suddenly, the ground would shake from an impact above. A look of worry rested on the King's face. The green-haired healer spoke out to him and the former floor boss would divert his attention to him for a moment. "Not much for a plan right now. We need to find out what is going on above. These civilians wouldn't look in such a sorry shape if nothing was happening. A revolution may have been sparked from discontent. As for my power, I will keep that to a minimum. Though, it can't continue to charge after it has been primed to fire. We will be aware when it is primed. If we can secure it before that happens I'd be a lot happier."Gabrandr would lift a hand to shield his eyes from the sun as they surfaced from Low-Ladonia. It had been many months since he had surfaced last time. "We need to regroup with those in the refugee zone. There, we can hope to gain some allies and a better bearing on the current situation. Come along." Stepping forward at a brisk pace, the Galtean King would lead the frontline group forward.

Several minutes would pass and the frontline group would finally come into the view of the Rebellion. It seemed that individuals were boarding the public airships? Were they fleeing? Many of them were armed to the teeth, what was the plan? Making a quick jog to regroup, he would call out to the rebellion. "What's the situation? Is everyone alright?" Many gasps and cries of excitement were aimed in the King of Galtea's direction at his words. The one to step forward and speak first was an unexpected person. Gabrandr's eyebrows furrowed at the sight of the young prince stepping to him.

"Gabrandr, King to a fallen empire," Were the words the prince used to address Galtea's king. "We are currently engaged in battle with Grand Imperator Razwell. An alliance was crafted between myself and one of your subordinates in your stead. We strike back now, commandeer the airships and take down my father." A confident smirk played on the young man's face. Gabrandr didn't like it. "Very well, but I will be taking point from here on. If you truly wish me to honor any form of alliance with you then begin using that stone of yours to mend the wounded. You won't be hiding that thing from me." A warning glare was sent the royal's way before Gabrandr turned to his group.

"Unfortunately, the third prince in line to Galtea's throne is our best chance right now. With enough of us spread out, the Scather will be much less effective and I doubt Razwell would tak-"

Gabrandr's words cut off as the temperature of the area would suddenly drastically increase.

_____________________________________

Final-fantasy-12-08a.jpgAboard the Dreadnought Ifrit, several soldiers scrambled along on the inside. Near the airships' head rested the throne that would seat Grand Imperator Razwell. Leaning to his left, his fingers would scratch the hair on his chin. Those filthy Galteans would pay for the destruction of his palace and kingdom. He should have just slaughtered each of them during the war instead of allowing them into his walls. The one that brought him the most anger however was that girl. The redhead that dared to attack him. He would find her again and force years of endless suffering onto her. She would beg for him to end her life.

Metal clinks of armor would be heard as a soldier stopped before him. "Speak." The king would inform him. "It seems the enemy is preparing to board several airships from the public transportation. Once they get airborne their small size will be hard to strike down from the skies. It doesn't appear like they are boarding them for an escape either your Grace." Gritting his teeth, Razwell would stand suddenly and begin barking orders.

"ORDER ALL UNITS TO FIRE UPON THE REFUGEE ZONE! NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THOSE MAGGOTS ARE TO BE LEFT ALIVE." He turned his attention to the main command console. "This ship was built with the Scather in mind yes? Time for a test run. Prime the Scather." Rubbing his hands together, a malicious smile would spread along his face. "Let's see these cockroaches survive this!

Gabrandr's eyes widened as the temperature increased throughout the entire area. They were already too late, the weapon was primed. Any moment now it would fire. He had already lost. Freezing in place, no more words would come from the man. The Galteans not yet in airships would suddenly enter a state of chaos. Screams filled the air as they suddenly would flee. They knew this heat very well. Fear crept into Gabrandr's heart, freezing him in place. It would be here that he would meet his end just as his kingdom before him. He wanted to cower away as well, return to his hiding place away from the destructive force of Ladonia's greatest weapon. The sounds of cannons firing would be heard overhead as the airships in the nearby area would begin firing upon the rebellion. They would use both Scather and cannons to destroy them. Razwell spared them no mercy. Closing his eyes, the King would accept each of their fate. Even he couldn't stop this. No way he could push out enough power all at once...

A glimmer of a smile... the trill laughter of joy.

Gritting his teeth he would ask himself one question. "If I don't even try then how am I going to even look at you when we meet again?" Clenching his fists, arcs of lightning flashed around his body before he suddenly wasn't there. A cry of rage would fill the sky, bringing attention to Gabrandr's new location. A sudden flash of blue light would see that not only would his body become covered in armor, but an armor that hadn't been seen in the previous fight. Holding up his hand, a transparent blue field would surround the refugee zone. As the cannonballs struck the wall they would each become instantly vaporized by intense heat. A blue flame burned brightly as his attention turned on the Dreadnought Ifrit. A flash of white intense white light would emit from the airship headed straight for the Galteans. Reaching back his arm, a blue spear of flame would suddenly appear above him. Feeding it strength, the spear would elongate to a forty feet long weapon of intense heat. 'This isn't enough. I need to give it more!'  Cracks throughout his armor began appearing and the armor covering his hand had burned away entirely.

Hurling the spear forward, it would crash into the intense light. The sound from the impact was enough to shake the entire kingdom, the airborne ships teetering intensely. The shockwave shook the ground and even brought destruction to much of the architecture. Of course, the barrier erected by Gabrandr would ensure that none of the rebellion would be harmed. As the light from the blast faded, Gabrandr would ignore the ringing of his ears and continue onto phase two. Two more spears of much smaller stature than the previous would appear next to him. One by one, he would hurl them into the hulls of the ships, sending them straight into the cores that kept the ship in the air. Both would come crashing down onto the city below. Gritting his teeth, the king would shove out both of his hands into the air and tens of the spears would surround him.

The first notion of something being wrong was the long cracks in the barrier that would be visible to the players. Most of the armor from before had broken off of the king from the stress of the amount of power the man was discharging. "Y-You a-all can just-" The king would fall through the air, plummeting thirty feet and onto the ground. As he fell unconscious the erected barrier would shatter completely allowing passage. A voice would suddenly call out. "I will assist Gabrandr! All of you need to take the airships and go while they are off-guard! Now might be the best chance we have!" Lamont would rush through the streets to where the king had fallen along with several Galteans.

The time to fight is now. Begin your attack.

This round will end on Sunday,  February 20th at 11:59 PM CST

*Fwoom*

The sudden entry of a ship breaking in behind enemy flanks, A glint in the captain's eye as she charges for the bow. "Man the helm!" She reaches out to one of the crew and a slender male takes to the stand. Down the length and around the mast, the tiny vessel slides into conflict nigh point-blank. Ripping out a cleaver and holding it aloft off the side of the Black Raven. "FIRE!" The woman barks, as a ring of energy jumps from the side of this merchant boat. One after another, blue lines tear one of Razwell's goons to smithereens. A burning pile of wreckage pile drives the ground beneath, caving in a rather large library in the process.

Her eyes twist to that large as ship that the Grand Imperator found himself on. A bubble forms around the refugee camp, as a massive ringing spear jumps into the sky and obliterates another not but 100 feet from where they floated. "Looks like we have backup!" Johanna exclaims from the nest, leaning down with a shout. "It's Gabrandr!" The crew spews with glee. "Good on him, bout time he showed his ugly mug." Celeste remarks having received an earful about their king.

The woman's eyes flare bright red, as she reaches for a dangling chain. "Cut through, pull them aboard!" The crew pause for a moment, as cutting through the enemy forces could easily be a death sentence. "YAS Queen!" the brave Barthlo bellows, as he twists a dial. Space warps, time almost stands still. A warp jump within an asteroid field, and Celeste had her weapon armed. A blazing orange flame tears from ass to sternum through an unfortunate party of Razwell's forces. The ringing of chains as she overlooks the spherical defense shield in blue. One after another they drop, ways up to the big fucker in the sky.

A pool of red hair lingers past her face as she peers over the side, clad in galtean garb. "Any you fucks want to go smash a tyrant?" To an array of fresh-faced raid members and randoms turned revolutionists.

Koga heard @NIGHT mutter something beside him. "Regicide?" he repeated, his hand unconsciously drifting to the saya of his katana. "Yeah. I guess so," he agreed. "Can't say I ever thought I'd be party to...what is this? Rebellion? Usurpation?" He'd never been great about semantics.

The King then began to say something, drawing Koga's attention, apparently answering some question that @Hirru had asked. He seemed to be faring far better than he had minutes earlier. Although Koga couldn't hear every word that the King spoke, Koga did manage to catch the word 'revolution'. So that's what this was. Revolution. Koga wondered what @Alkor would think of all this. It hadn't been long ago that they'd discussed the concept itself. And what choices Alkor might make, what choices Koga would. At the time, Koga had said he'd stand for what he believed in, for freedom. Now was the time to put take his words and put them to action he supposed.

The man glanced over at the woman beside him. As calm and unreadable as ever. And the one person he'd known here from the start. Though he didn't say it, he thought to himself that, were he to die here, he was quite glad it'd be fighting alongside her.

---

The group of Frontliners soon linked up with the bulk of the revolution. Ragtag, they were not. Instead, they were girded and armed, fit for battle. Koga even spotted a number of players among their numbers, though he didn't recognize them.

It was then that the temperature rose sharply, the only thing stopping him from sweating through his coat being his Survival skill kicking in and regulating his body temperature for him. A low rolling rumbling sound filled the air, shook it. Though Koga could not hear the sound itself, he could feel it.

And then the screams broke out.

"Not good," he said to no one in particular as chaos ensued. Clouds darkened the sky as thunder began to drown out the roar of the cannons above. A bright light in the shape of Gabrandr appeared in the sky, and a spear of light arced through the sky.

An enormous explosion of sound rocked the ground beneath their feets, and then Gabrandr crashed to the ground as distant buildings crumbled.

An unfamiliar voice shouted orders. They had their objectives. "Let's go," Koga said to NIGHT, quick to push through the crowd of NPCs and players towards the nearest airship.

The boarding planks rattled beneath his feet as tens of people thundered along it, onto a contraption Koga hadn't even thought possible within the walls of Aincrad. How many could they fit? He wasn't counting, instead he looked to the sky, tracking each of the vessels already in the air, trying to distinguish friend from foe. Were they to fire at them once in the air? What use would their Arts be if that was the case?

"NIGHT, please tell me you have some idea how to take those things outta the sky."

The world was red.

Heat unimaginable emanated from the belly of the beast Ifrit in earnest homage to its namesake. The resultant concussion force stretched our through the air like tendrils, wildly whipping and thrashing. He watched expressionless as it mindlessly devoured brick and mortar, tearing asunder the very realm that the man at its controls sought to lord over. Alkor was not impressed.

The perspiration that beaded on his neck and brow now were born of the magnitude of this heat and the intensity of his thoughts, bewildered at how to oppose the might of this unexpected, woefully unmatchable weapon now laid bare before them. His grip on Witchfang intensified.

These men and women had made their choice, and inadvertently, so had he.

Grim though this fate might be, he stared implacably on as certain death crawled toward him. All of that time spent improving, honing his skills, ascending through levels- it amounted to death in the face of something unexpected?

The cool, blue light that permeated through the city's Refugee Zone washed over Alkor like a sudden, gentle breeze. Protective power, soothing radiance- something equally unexpected. He did not see the point of origin, not from where he stood. All he could hear were the words of the young Prince.

Quote

"I will assist Gabrandr! All of you need to take the airships and go while they are off-guard! Now might be the best chance we have!"

And leave the most dangerous work to the people, at that. Alkor turned his attention away from the conniving creature called Lamont. There was nothing left but to finish what they had started. "Where you come from," the Galtean asked suddenly, "do these things have happy endings?"

Alkor paused and reflected on the words for an instant. The ballast fell away, knots undone from the tow line. The ship began to ascend, climbing toward the horizon, toward fate. There was no alternative ending now, no story but the one he had chosen to write. For the first time since the Ninth Floor, Alkor stared death in the face. He could see the molten fire in its throat again, but instead of fear...

"You fight for the ending you get." Alkor spun round with a wicked smirk on his face, the wild glint in his eyes reflective of the heat he saw in the abyss. This time, that fire belonged to him. "I'm here, after all."

In the end, regardless of how tragic the Sword Art Online incident was, no matter how hard the reality he lived in, the fact remained. Thom was still standing. Alkor was still standing. Even with its best attempts to bring him low, he still lived.

The engine screamed at full output now, and the airship rose into the firmament. Alkor watched the clouds part ahead of him and saw Razwell's small cadre of ships impending. "Don't suppose you have a plan for getting us aboard their ships alive?" the man asked, more sure of their cause than before, but still not entirely convinced.

"We knew from the beginning we weren't going to sortie with them in civilian transports," Alkor stated flatly.

"You don't mean-"

He remembered words he'd said to @Koganot so long ago, about the right of the people to be free, and about protecting those people from the powers that sought to exploit them. About the sacrifices people made to find that elusive freedom. In this, Alkor had no doubts.

"Plot a course for the van," he snapped at last, "bring us up to ramming speed."

The moment Blue rested her head on the cushion of the airship taxi's seat she would pass out. She was unknowing of the conversation between the Galtean rebels and Alkor. After having healed a few dozen injured soldiers she was adequately tired. She remained silent even as Gabrandr's spear cracked the sky.

It wasn't until shouting throughout the airship's cab was heard that she woke up. Groggily, she would try to register what had suddenly happened. "ARE WE SERIOUSLY DOING THIS? WE'RE JUST GOING TO KAMIKAZE INTO IT?' The driver had a dark glint to his eyes as he nodded. Through the window the pink-haired player seen the side of a much larger ship that they were preparing to slam into. Yawning, the girl would hold up her hands and a blue light would shine from them. Just before the impact only one word was spoken.

"Barrier."

Her hands would erupt in a blue light and for the faintest second it looked as if the tips of the girl's hair would become the same blue hue. A light blue veil would cover the front of the airship at a point. "EMBRACE FOR IMPACT!" The small transportation airship would crash into the bottom side of the airship, punching a hold in the metal that held it together. Not enough damage to sink the ship but it looked as if a cannon had been shot into it. It seemed that somehow, each member of their small crew had managed to survive the attack, however; the ship had definitely sailed for the last time. The impact had destroyed the front end of the ship, smashing all of the glass and even injuring some of the party.

"We're here!" the girl said excitedly before exiting the tarnished airship. Holding out her hands in the direction of her team another blue light would cast. A small blueberry would appear in each of their hands. "Eat, you'll feel better." the pink-haired player would direct. Without hesitation, the Galteans would pop the small fruit into their mouth and their injuries would fade.

Shouting along with the sounds of clinking metal would be heard as Imperial Soldiers began moving to the lower level which they had crash landed into. "Is there any chance we could talk this out with them? They're just following orders aren't they?"

The ship rocked, creaked, and jilted as they made impact.

He hardly imagined it would go as smoothly as it had. Razwell's loyalists proved to be complacent and untested, which spoke of the Empire's decline. They enjoyed a period of peace for an indeterminate amount of time, without the need to take to the skies for war. Their pilots failed even to take evasive maneuvers. He would have pitied them if it had not been such a victory for the cause.

The initial damage assessment was unnecessary, and he did not bother to take stock on his own. They traded their ship for the chance to seize something larger, more capable. Perfectly executed, the easier portion of the plan was behind them.

Quote

"Is there any chance we could talk this out with them? They're just following orders aren't they?"

He wore a dour mask from beginning to end of the question. It was just like everything in war, rife with shades of gray. "It may be there are those of them who act out of fear, or because they know nothing else," he admitted, albeit his voice was stone as he spoke the words. The enemy was already on them, flooding the room like water through a breach. "But we've passed the point of reason. They'll only respond to action, now."

Alkor raised his sword, and with it, his voice. "We need every able body now," he called out to rally the survivors, those not too wounded to go on. "This ship was built by your hands, with the fruits of your labor, and the coin taken from your coffers. By right, it is yours, and now-"

He turned his gaze sidelong, back toward the ragtag group who manned the ship with him.

"-It's time to take it back."

Grabbing a laced robe and pulling, releasing at just the right time. A few shouts of excitement as some of the sails drop open. They would need a few more if they were to get to the top. A few more crew members hop a board joining the fray. From his past experiences with oh so many games, a battle like this one needed an army. The higher their number was, the greater the success. It was something that he always tried to achieve in the MMO's that he played. Firm Anima was playing that part here. The numbers grew without a second though, and he wasn't really sure why that was.

He was really happy where he was in this game. No, not game, this unexpected life that they found themselves living in. He had been close to death on several occasions, but something just shifted inside of him. Somehow he knew that he was safe. That even though the people in Firm Anima didn't know him all that well, still he knew he was protected by some strong force that was unseen. He just had a feeling, he would use that to accomplish what had to be done this day. To help get everyone here home safe, players and NPC's alike. Scambling past him were a few pirate coated females that seemed to be admiring his get up. He would ignore this for now and continue tying the robe down to the metal piece.

Hearing an order, as the cannon shot out. This was so exciting, he would allow his queen to bark the orders for no conflict.

Get to the airships. Got it.

Except, NIGHT didn't have a clue where they were, nor what in the world she was supposed to do with them. Sorry, was this even a necessary step in the process? Cardinal had given them no heads up about what was to follow once they'd left the boss room -- only something about a king that had to be slain, and the king was nowhere to be seen.

Was she even needed here?

As Koga raced off towards the direction pointed out (that NIGHT so clearly missed, eyes faced towards the skies in confusion), the woman followed, though albeit slower than urgency would have her believe. The boarding station was a climb upwards, and even more confusing to the woman was how it could support the weight of so many different people.

"NIGHT, please tell me you have some idea how to take those things outta the sky."

"Uhhh... Well... See, here's the thing..."

The player paced down the walk, eyes searching the docks for just one ship they could board that was rightfully meant for them to man. Finding one was difficult, but once she'd caught sight of a vessel, she pulled Koga by the front of his jacket and started in earnest. "This way!"

Had she known the vehicles were so hotly contested, perhaps she would've followed Koga much more fervently. But her pick of airship wasn't the worst choice out of the other vehicles, and she helped the man up to board once they got to the foot of its steps.

Once on deck, NIGHT had a confession to make.

"Koga, I really need you to understand. Drivers tests are completely arbitrary where I come from. There was absolutely no reason for me to have driven, and therefore, there is absolutely no way I would know how to pilot this thing."

Her shove of the man towards the captain's quarters was her response punctuating her words.

"So you do it! I'm sure you'll do fine. Look, the ship's even flying right now-- Huh?"

If Nian had any reason for her depature's delay, it was simple: what in the world were the other morons in the sky doing, firing shots at other vessels?

The people upon them had to be players, she knew that much. If it'd been a simple discernment of ship upon ship, then the game would've made it obvious to the onlookers about such feedback. Unfortunately, though the chase seemed to be on, the king didn't have good eyes on the target, and it would be remiss for someone of such high importance to have gone into the crossfire without understanding.

That was until she noticed a couple of freeloaders boarding her 'Imperial', and the woman rose from her position to peer out the viewing port of her quarters. A couple of players? From their loose attire, veterans, perhaps?

The monarch grinned. After all, fashion had always been the true end game for players.

"--There was absolutely no reason for me to have driven, and therefore, there is absolutely no way I would know how to pilot this thing."

That wasn't a problem for Nian. With a push of a lever, she allowed the ship to rise, before retracting the stairs mid-flight. And as the woman shoved her companion around, she stepped out of her hiding spot, arms folded, wearing a look of disgust.

"You two have some nerve boarding my vessel without permission. Now, if you're so keen on staying, then get to the cannons, commoners!!"

In a confusing series of events Koga was hardly keeping track of, the man found himself being pulled along by the front of his coat by NIGHT, and then quickly pulled on board a vessel.

At the smallest glance Koga had been afforded, he found himself wondering if the blasted thing could even take off. A sail...wing? Sail-wing was practically one bad gust of wind away from being sheared clean off, there were holes in the hull, and half the exterior looked like it had been rusted through entirely.

"@NIGHT, you know I'm not picky, especially at a time like this, but-"

The woman cut him off unexpectedly.

"Wait, what?"

And suddenly he'd been shoved into the help of the ship. Koga grunted as he collided with the...wheel? of the ship, and it suddenly began to move. "NIGHT! I don't know how to fly! What makes you think I can do this!?" the man questioned, as he tried to steer the flying boat out of a collision course with a building.

The side of the hull screamed out as they just barely avoided a fatal collision, splinters flying into the air as a couple more holes had surely been torn open.

Quote

"You two have some nerve boarding my vessel without permission. Now, if you're so keen on staying, then get to the cannons, commoners!!"

What?

"Who the fuck are you?" Koga shouted, stealing a glance over his shoulder at...whoever this was. "And who in the hell are you calling a commoner!?" Well, by all rights, Koga probably would be a commoner...he didn't really think bastard children were afforded much in ye olden days..."And what fucking cannons!? Isn't this some kind of bus or some shit!?"

What was going on? Koga was getting more and more confused. He no longer knew why he was here. He wasn't even sure of who he was at this point. All he knew was that he must kill.

"Ah, fuck it."

Koga began to search the skies for any enemy vessel to assault. He caught site of another civilian vessel colliding with one of the warships, puncturing its hull. Those aboard the transport were quick to disembark, Wait...was that @Alkor? And @Blueberry? What were they doing here?

Well, the answer for one was easy, Alkor seemed to be decimating the enemy onboard the vessel he'd just boarded. Koga swore he could hear the screams from where he was as three of the sailors were violently thrown overboard. Blue...what was Blue doing? Was she trying to heal the enemy? Was that considered treason, or part of some kind of Landonian equivalent to the Geneva Convention that Koga didn't know about?

Whatever, objective. Target sighted. "Full speed ahead!" Koga cried to no one in particular as he pointed the ship at the first unfriendly looking sky-ship he could find. "Oh, please hold together..." the man muttered as they sped towards the nearest imperial vessel, their ship shuddering violently as it built up speed.

The ship weaved in and out the incoming fire, drifting in and out of lines of sight as best it could, difficult as it was considering there was no real cover in the air. The heavy thud of the air cannons' round bursting in the air shook the body of the ship, some coming perilously close to ending their short voyage earlier than intended.

But they were almost there.

"Uh, NIGHT?" Koga suddenly said to his companion. "I suppose now would be a good time to point out that I have no idea how to stop this thing, and I dunno where the brakes are."

Their target was getting closer and closer, the true size of the thing suddenly became very apparent. This was going to hurt.

"Brace for impact!"

no matter, she will tolerate being part of the flock until she found answers on her own.

she had moved up from the place where she previously stood -- upwards to the peak of a barricade made up of piled-up desks, then to a second-floor ledge when a couple of npcs attempted to follow, the mount sent crashing down behind her. she turned her head, peered into the window in mild curiosity, and only saw drawn curtains and her reflection.

ladonian, galtean, they all looked the same to her. charcoal covered hands. clothes sticking to their skin with sweat. they were a single wriggling body of flesh conducting fear like electricity as the ring of light amidst the protective encirclement of airships widened. she felt the heat sinking into her skin. the people beneath her were pressed so impossibly close to one another in their bid to get behind the too-few places that offered cover, she thought she could see them grafting together in places.

arabelle leaned her head against the window and closed her eyes, breathing slow.

(the curtains fluttered from an invisible wind.)

she heard the enemy cannons fire. she felt relief bloom from the side of her head, and the air she breathed no longer felt like fire. when she opened her eyes, it was to the sight of the shells exploding against an invisible barrier.

like there had been anything that warranted concern. it was still quite a lovely day.

she dropped down the ledge.

the people watched their protector's figure in awe. it was responsible for the barrier, but the rebels' discarded props held her interest. she picked through the emptier open areas, her gaze passing over extinguished torches, pitchforks and spades, until she found it: a standard ripped clean from its pole, blackened in some parts from smoke, but still fairly distinguishable. she folded it lengthwise and wound it around her forearm before she set off for the docks at a languid pace, the brilliant lights of the explosions dotting the skies above.

the ships the youngest prince had so helpfully procured for them were nothing more than tiny civilian shuttles, zero military capabilities aside from the fact that they could fly, the enemy fleet was hundreds of meters up in the air, and there was currently no way to mount a resistance on ground level. she didn't spare any time picking through the offerings; she went for the rightmost dock, taking the stairs two at a time, then swung herself over the shuttle's railing. once on deck, she walked along the inner edges in a single circle, familiarizing herself with the vehicle. the airship had two levels: the upper had the controls, the lower was a windowless hold that could comfortably accommodate about a dozen people.

frowning contemplatively, arabelle flipped the hatch to the lower level open before she seated herself at the helm, her hands drifting over the panel. she tested each control while still moored, checking the ship's reaction and the changes in the console. when she was done, she withdrew the anchor and let the shuttle float idly in the air for a moment.

she was going to pilot this ship close enough to a dreadnought, then send it full throttle at one of the infantry units and hop onto her new ride before the crash could kill her.

she supposed she already had half the qualifications for the job.

Two players rushed in to help out. One of them was a green haired player Vigilon didn't know, while the other was Freyd. "Give me a break, man, I was trying to avoid getting blasted when I misjudged the distance of that jump...by the way....what the hell are Airships doing in Aincrad? Isn't this supposed to be a fantasy setting?" He said in response to Freyd asking him what it was with him and heights. The Green haired player seemed to be a healer, for he restored some of Vigilon's HP. He recommended that Vigilon not fight for a while, but uh.... "The conditions out there are too bad to avoid getting swept up in combat, I'll just take a potion and hope I can regenerate the rest before I get swarmed again." He said, before popping a potion to further restore his health.

Vigilon decided to stick around with this group for the time being, then the group met up with another...and just in time, too, as a literal fleet of enemy airships loomed overhead.

Suddenly, chaos ensued.

The enemy flagship had literally attempted to nuke everyone in the area. Had it not been for that NPC's interaction, innocent NPCs, as well as all the players in the area, would have been killed.

"..."

It was all a blur, difficult to register at first glance...when it finally settled in, the time was now to act. Vigilon pulled on the hood of his gear.

995596-bigthumbnail.jpg.6dd67751dfd5a0c4a0c5e1d1a1483d2e.jpg

Vigilon looked to see small transport ships beginning to take off. One had yet to be manned, but it was ill-suited for combat. He looked to the enemy's military force, then to the transport. "Both of you, with me, we're going to capture one of the enemy's airships!" He called out to the two players who'd helped him. Whether or not they actually followed was up to them, but the players' chances would definitely be better if they had a better Airship for the task.

@Freyd @Hirru(just in case you change your mind :D)

If the enemy was going to show no mercy, it would be fitting for Vigilon to show no mercy either. As he boarded the transport Airship, he knew where he was headed, and he had a slight idea of what he was doing....but his goal was clear.

The complete and utter annihilation of the man in charge of the enemy forces.

Apparently, hardly a single soul had listened to the young noble's words. However, Krysta did not judge...for the most part, that is. Everyone was eager to board an Airship for the coming battle, and the one that the redhead had taken was looming in the air.

A group of players arrived at the scene, along with an NPC.

Then came the odd feeling of a horrific heat, and all the Galteans had fear struck within their hearts. Krysta then looked to see that she and everyone around were almost blasted into Oblivion.

"..."

The Emperor of Ladonia was a sick man, attempting to commit a twisted genocide on all these innocents... Krysta's free hand clenched and shook with anger, and her eyes would begin to burn with a justified flame. Odds were that Krysta was not the only one who now wanted Razwell the Third dead. It was time to bring that scoundrel down once and for all. Her eyes looked around the scattering players, when she recognized two familiar faces from the tower, and from what she knew, they were sensible enough to help her get the job done.

She dashed towards the two. "Both of you, with me!" She said before using each hand to grab one of the two by the wrist as she continued on.

@Jomei @Oji

Quite literally dragging the two, she made her way over to the transport Aircrafts. Once she'd arrived, she began boarding it with all due haste. It was then when she laid eyes on-

"Vigilon??"

What normally would have been shocking would have been to see that his hood was on, a sign that he'd dropped all willingness to have mercy in a situation, but since he and Krysta were in agreement, she would not judge his emotional condition. She would then turn around to help the two players she'd dragged over to the transport, if they were still around and willing to board. When that was finished, she would look over to Vigilon. Perhaps it was time to compare ideas before taking off...but the players must plan quickly, there was no time to simply stand around. She immediately prepared to start up the craft and fly it over. The experience with the Larger Airship when she was headed for the Tower had given her what might have been enough knowledge to properly navigate this one. "My current intention is to reach the enemy forces and disembark on one of their airships, for this craft cannot last long against them. May I ask what your plan is?" She asked Vigilon as she managed to get the Airship into the air.

The pungent red film still erodes the light around the swordsman, still on edge from the exchange from before. Those that would pay attention would see him keeping an eye on Gabrandr for any ulterior motives. A few discordant words as the field became littered with conflict, fires raged on as rebellion was still in full swing. Like creeping death, as Raidou would move, his hatred continued to drain away. A crimson aura that sapped the life of those he passed by. Evidently, he draws a blade, and starts to carve away at the opposed forces.

He'd given his word.

Lights began to take the sky, glowing as heat began to build. From a massive vessel that lingered in the sky above, charging up some blast aimed for the refuges and all they held in this world. The sharp crackling forms around it and releases, finding purchase on a barrier that Gabrandr himself had erected. The glare finds itself against Raidou's lenses, as his robe flutters in the wind. The wanderer seemed unfazed, stalwart in his conviction, and one could taste that he held no fear of passing. Nothing but a cold, hard stare to the sky above, watching on as the broken king would fall like a stone.

Shattering like glass, that force field turns to digital stardust. "Not for you, but for them." He reciprocates his earlier spoken word. A black density begins to bleed from his legs, forming a mass of decay behind every step. "To inspire fear." A sticky slap of the stuff across his face as he removes his glasses, eyes becoming pained and under duress. As other soldiers would take up arms, entire squadrons of troops would set down upon the very home of the Galtean people. The red wanderer would not falter.

A sickening howl bellows out from him, one of aggression mixed with agony. A heart and mind, sewn back together if for but a moment. "To inspire hope." A pair of long spindled like blades leap from his back, spreading out and reaching for anything they could latch to. If there would be a second coming of this scather, Raidou was ready. Listing as the gleam played upon his blade, that color that lept from him joining and condensing in its edge.

"Find a way upward. No risks." He'd look to most of the guild, trusting Freyd to find a way that wasn't suicidal.

To make that jump, to keep his word.

Walking out with the guild and everyone else she covers her eyes from the huge blast that was mere meters from where they stood. There was no way of knowing what was going on outside those walls while dealing with Gabrandr. A conversation was held between him and the Prince, what seemed like seconds after, Gabrandr was down. Sam's eyes widen as she tries to wrap her head around everything. Right then, a hand touches her shoulder. Slightly turning, Eruda was standing right there with a very determined look on her face. All that destruction and fighting, yelling and cries of pain in the near distance, it was hard to hear anything else. A nod to the blond tank, turning back and closing her eyes trying to focus on what Raidou had asked of them. A call out was heard, a familiar voice. Opening her eyes quickly and scanning the area. After a moment Sam spots the redhead on what looks like a large airship. How did she get her hands on that. How was she even here...

Sam shakes her head, glancing to the others, "I think our ride up is here already." After some recognition that she was heard, Sam would pull her weapon and begin to fight her way through the fray. Helping pick up the refugees that were still standing, Sam would lead them to the air craft that was provided by their guild mate. After gathering a hand full, it was heard what Raidou said about saving these people. They did nothing wrong, they were just trying to save their home. Unfortunately there might not be a home to save when the King was done with this place.

Gathering a group of these fellows, Sam approaches the Airship with a man on her back. He was to weak to move, so Sam did the only thing that could be done at that moment. Lium would see more people entering, hop over a barrel and help Sam with the man who couldn't walk on his own. Sam's eyes narrow a bit, what the hell was he doing here... Turning the other way when the weight was off, shaking her head, Sam would go find more survivors to bring up. That air ship looked like the safest place that they could be right now.
