[OP-04] A Bittersweet Treat

Shimmering light broke through the crack within the curtain shining down upon a slumbering man on the couch. Light snoring ceased as ocean eyes fluttered awake to the invading sunlight that pierced through the darkness within the abode. Across the way, a laying upside-down was spotted on the worn in padded chair. He took a deep breath and stretched staring at his surroundings. Empty. Void. If dust was such a thing in these houses, it would have been covered as he would just leave to go to work. He rustled his white hair and slipped open his menu to prepare his clothing for the day. With a mess of a few buttons, he was dressed and ready to go. The penguin was already up and ready to go as it was rolling to the door with its sword tucked away.

Right hand reached out opening the door and he spoke. “I’ll see y…” he paused a bit after getting that far. Habits. Some habits needed to be broken as he closed the door quietly shuffling away.

Long legs ran to the teleporter trying to get the penguin hyped up for the day. The squealing penguin fell behind as it always did, but always continued to struggle to keep up. With a flash, they were gone into the realm, the snow region floor 4. He took a deep breath letting that crisp cold air invade his lungs. He started recently to skip going to the first floor for shopping along with the second floor as well. After Haine left, he avoided those spots most often as she tended to be shopping looped around his arms. 

 

Quite snowfall continued as the slight crunch of snow under his feet barely audible was seen as he made way toward his café. Door opened up and the café lit up as he entered. The peppermint smell still invading his nose from the previous night activities and baked items still sat in the glass. His works of art sat in the case undisturbed as he pressed by them. Apron wrapped around his waist as he began baking. Billows of smoke escaped his chimney for the full effect of a workshop. Ideally, this was a fun thing to do to pass the time. He had locked himself within the café for quite a while since Haine. Any guild members that were trying to check on in him were swiftly dealt with an “everything is okay” or he’d turn off the lights and sat in the dark.

Several creations were made within several minutes such as parfaits, cakes, snacks, and other assorted sweets within the timeframe of the morning. The work kept him busy from doing anything irrational though today was different. Frame pressed against the counter as he looked down at list of people who were on his friends list. At least her name was still lit meaning she was alive. A deep breath was taken as he placed a message. “Want something sweet to eat?” was the content of the message but he stared at the recipient which remained empty.  He tapped on Lessa’s name and soon sent the message without another thought. Inviting anyone from the guild would have been awkward since they knew Haine as well. Lessa was the only other person he could think of he could speak with that wasn’t a part of the guild.

The penguin made a noise that startled him as it was behind him waiting for its breakfast. An apologetic smile was given as he placed a fish in front of it and patted its head. At least the penguin still enjoyed his company for the most part. With that, he turned and flipped his sign on to open and waited patiently for anyone to stop in to pick up anything. Future orders were already prepped away and waiting.
