Nari stepped off the teleporter pad onto Floor 9, cursing the heat almost immediately. It had been a while since she’d visited the area – and still, she hated it. As did the fox curled around her shoulders, the small chittering giving away its displeasure at the waves of heat that were likely damaging its once pristine coat of fur. She had only returned, because of the notification she had received – information leading to yet another Tech Skill that she wanted. It appeared that this time, Cerberus was the culprit – and Nari couldn’t help but wonder at the fact that the tiny wolf had something she wanted.

“Not so tiny, from what I could gather, though. Sounds like Cerberus has gone and grown into a big boy, after all.” The fox chittered in what Nari assumed was agreement. She knew the quest wouldn’t be that easy this time around – she had heard that the environment, alongside the actual boss itself was dangerous to players, and that it was highly recommended to attempt the quest as a group. “A group…if only I had a group to call on. NIGHT and Koga don’t seem to be too keen right now…and Bis, well…Bis isn’t really cut out for this yet.”

Sighing to herself, she glanced around at the area, seeing the many players running to and from whatever it was they needed to do. She hated this place, and as she felt the heat again pounding down on her, she vowed to never return here again, if she could help it.

Equipped Items

Länn Síonnäch Gheímhrídh [Tier 4; Polearm [One-handed Assault Spear]; Demonic] Standing at nearly 120 cm in length from tip to tip, this short spear contains a metallic-appearing shaft of shifting dark and light violet, twirling in a mesmerising pattern. The blade - connected by a metal collar of a blackness similar to a void - glints with an ice blue colouring, a shift of light violet visible in the surface at the right angle. Twin wrapped lengths of cord - a combination of ice blue and dark violet - hang from the metal collar, intertwining in a mesmerising pattern when in movement. Both sides of the blade, just above the collar, contain a curled white fox, the dark black eyes staring outwards.

| Enhancement: Paralyze [2 Slots] | Effect: Natural critical attack rolls of 9-10 (1 slot) or natural successful attack rolls of 8-10 (2 slots) remove the enemy’s action on their next turn. Paralyzed opponents lose any evasion properties.
| Enhancement: Accuracy [2 Slots] | Effect: Gain +(1 per slot) to the BD when attacking. Cannot be used to cause a critical hit.

Dark Fox's Reckoning [Tier 4; Heavy/Plate Armour] Forged to be shapely, this piece appears thinner than most pieces of heavy armour - leaving what appear to be openings towards the neckline, and the sides of the torso. Smaller shoulders leave limited protection towards the neck, but allow for greater movement. Coloured a dark violet, the edges of the piece outlined in a shifting soft silver, orange and red colour. Upon the chest's centre stands a white fox, slightly cured with fangs barred, black eyes staring out as if at the individual in front of the piece.

| Enhancement: Recovery [1 Slot] | Effect: Before your post action, make a separate CD roll. On a natural CD7+, regain (1 per slot * Tier) additional energy. This CD roll may also apply to activating the effects of Vamp-Def.

| Enhancement: Heavy Momentum [1 Slot] | Effect: After an unsuccessful attack, gain +(1 per slot * Tier) base damage until your next successful attack, at which point this bonus is removed. Another unsuccessful attack will reactivate this enhancement. Must be using the Heavy Armor Skill for this enhancement to take effect. [For Area of Effect attacks: This effect only activates if you miss all enemies targeted by the attack.]

| Enhancement: Taunt [1 Slot] | Effect: +1 Hate generated from Howl, Focused Howl, and successful attacks.

Dark Fox's Retribution [Tier 4; Celtic Shield] Similar to a wall shield, this piece stands nearly 137cm tall, and nearly 76 cm wide - easily covering the form of a shorter individual. Tapered on the sides, the shield seems to bend inwards slightly on its edges, a perfect opening for an outwardly weapon to be levelled through. The top and bottom edges slightly bend inwards, giving the impression of a less than straight appearance. Coloured in a dark violet, with edges of dark forest green, a white fox, slightly cured with fangs barred is emblazoned on its centre, appearing as if ready to strike.

| Enhancement: Recovery [1 Slot] | Effect: Before your post action, make a separate CD roll. On a natural CD7+, regain (1 per slot * Tier) additional energy. This CD roll may also apply to activating the effects of Vamp-Def.

| Enhancement: Thorns [2 Slots] | Effect: Successful non-critical attacks against you deal (9 * Tier) unmitigated damage to the attacking enemy. Only activates on damage dealing, melee attacks.

A ringing sounded as the teleporter whirred to life. The one who would be left in the beam of light was Yuki. The paladin was here to rend the Gatekeeper of Fire asunder, payment due for their first meeting after all. How was she going to get back into the game if she couldn't even tank this little bosses? As she stepped down into the plaza something caught her eye. A young, familiar girl looking somewhat confused? Upon a closer inspection, she could recognize the person: The smith that made some her new gear to go with Jack's Plate.

Well, no time like the present. The paladin would approach her. "How's it going, friend? You're looking a little lost. Need help with anything?" Floor nine was well known for it Cerberus quest, so she could only assume that's why the girl was here. She didn't know what Nari specialized in, but one could never go wrong with an experienced tank in their group. A torch in a dark cave, so to speak.

Nari eyed the pink-covered girl that had wandered up to her, her eyes taking in the armour and noticing her own handiwork. A slight smile crossed her face – as much due to seeing her craft in the wild, as a welcome to the other individual. Nodding towards the wilds beyond the settlement, Nari will cock her head to the left.

“That depends…do you know of Cerberus? Apparently, there’s a bigger version of him now, that gives out a nice little Tech skill, assuming you can defeat him and his horde of dogs. Interested in trying to smash through it?” She’ll shift on her feet, letting the spear rest firmly in the crook of her elbow, against her shoulder. Smiling at the other woman, she’ll add, “Unless you’re scared, of course…”

A slight wink will accompany the jest, a hope to reveal the humour meant behind the words. She still didn’t fully understand this whole social thing; when it was alright to make jests, when it wasn’t. She was sure Astreya had a playbook for it – she’d have to ask the girl next time she saw her.

"I hate it, too, I'm lucky to be able to survive in environments like this, but it's sad that you don't seem to have the same tolerance..."

Vigilon's familiar, a small white frost dragon, was climbing all over him, trying to find a place to hide from the searing heat. To the familiar, this was a literal environmental shock, as this floor was in a state of constant heat, unlike her own floor of origin, the polar opposite of this, being floor 4, a land of endless winter. The small dragon growled, irritated that heat wasn't something that could simply be shaken off.

Vigilon sighed. He wasn't used to his familiar being so aggravated. Then again, he didn't know if familiars could learn the survival skill as players could, which would explain why the heat irritated her despite her having been around when the sandstorm came through back on the fifth floor. Speaking of which, he didn't have much to do on this floor, why was he here again? Oh, right, the rumors of the bad doggo's return. Might as well make use of those buffs in his inventory, be prepared for anything... He took out and consumed all three. ...Damn, they were all still too mild to really enjoy.

He would step outside the settlement boundary, eventually finding two players, both heavily armored. Were they tanks? It wouldn't hurt to ask if they needed any extra firepower, right? "Hey, is there anything you two might need help with?"  He asked. "I kinda need something to do...though I've been hearing rumors about a stronger Cerberus lately..."

...yeah, he could have come up with something better to start the interaction with...

Dazia hastily returned to the floor, having acquired a more accurate lead on her target.

It was indeed a Cerberus that was her lead, but she had slain the wrong one. Now she'd come back for the real deal, and she would find that missing player's clue in due time after her real target was dead. She immediately took advantage of the consumables she'd purchased earlier. This ought to make sure that nothing could successfully stand in her way...and if all else fails, she always had a Teleport Crystal for emergencies.

Once she'd finished the consumables, she would prepare to leave the safe zone. She didn't walk very far before spotting Vigilon talking to two players. Given the circumstances she was now in, she needed to play it safe. She didn't know either player that he was speaking to, and both were heavily armored, to boot...

She took cover behind a nearby chunk of stone jutting out of the ground, peeking from said cover every few seconds. She needed to find out what was going on, but better safe than sorry.

Nari took a single glance at the newcomer before smiling widely. She waved the individual over, immediately sending a party request.

“We’re just getting ready to head out and face the big Cerbie. We’d be more than happy to have you, isn’t that right Yuki?” A quick flash of a smile towards the pink haired woman before Nari continued. “When facing big opponents, you can never be too safe, right?”

A glance at her menu will show a pending message – one she’ll file away for later with a slight smile, before returning her attention to the newest member.

“Vigilion huh… I’m Nari and this is Yuki. You don’t look like the up front type, more focused on DPS?” She’ll glance around as she’s speaking, an odd feeling in the back of her neck. Putting the feeling aside, she’ll glance out towards the wilds beyond the settlement, the small fox at her neck chittering its disappointment at the environment.

As another entered the fold, Mikoto would feel a little more certain about taking on the Cerberus. Usually, she would bring someone like Crozeph or NIGHT to help her fight but she wasn't sure how well she'd last against a higher leveled monster with ways through mitigation without some additional damage. Thankfully it looked as though they were completely covered in that aspect. Vigilon seemed nice enough. "Worry not, stand behind me and you won't even feel threatened." The girl would say so confidently that it almost sounded like bragging and she had almost every right to.

Though, as they began their journey, the paladin downing a signature immolation potion to ready herself, she almost felt like they were being watched. Maybe her time in isolation had just made her slightly jumpy, because despite having the skills to see people spying on her, she could find no one. That being the case, the paladin must really have just been jumping at shadows.

Who were these Armored Individuals? Why was Vigilon talking to them? And what did they come here for? These were the questions Dazia had. She had just been on this floor not to long ago, so it might count as where she was last seen...and she knew there were people searching for her.

There didn't seem to be much conversation before the players began to move, though there seemed to be a mention of what might have been Cerberus. While Dazia did not know what they were after, she would learn...preferably from a safe distance, and thus she would attempt to shadow the three. Moving from cover to cover when the opportunity rose, she needed to be close enough to hear them, but far and concealed enough to avoid being spotted. With her cowl over her head, peeking every here and there from whichever cover she hid under...but players being on the move made it difficult to eavesdrop on them, as she would risk being seen as she moved along the ground, despite it being black like most of her Cloth Armor.

Vigilon was sent a party invite without hesitation. He pressed accept and then came the conversation.

Vigilon chuckled when the violet haired player pronounced Vigilon's name incorrectly. "Vigilon, yes." He replied. People would get names wrong every once in a while, but it was never really a big deal unless someone had an unkind way of correction. "Nice to meet you both." He added, since the two players were introduced by the Violet haired player, Nari. Nari then proceeded to guess his build...accurately, to boot. "Well yes, actually. I am indeed a DPS player...is my build that easy to guess? I mean, sure, I do have skills other than just damage based ones, but...yeah." He said. With the way that the pink haired player, Yuki, had spoken, it would seem the player was a Tank. Nari looked like one who used heavy armor, but not every player who used heavy armor was a Tank, so without confirmation it was hard to tell.

The players then started on their way to look for the stronger Cerberus, but something seemed off. Yuki seemed to be more alert than expected. Did Yuki notice some tiny detail or trace that something was amiss? "Something wrong?" He asked.

Nari cocked her head at Vigilon’s question, her eyes suddenly glancing about. “Now that you mention it…it did feel like something was watching us back at the teleporter. But…I figured it was just me being paranoid…”

She glanced at Yuki, wondering if the woman had caught sight of something, and was just trying to confirm it. Nari knew her own ability to find anything or anyone with even a mediocre stealth score would be far subpar compared to many others – she’d been so focused on her combative statuses, that she hadn’t bothered on alternative skills.

“I wouldn’t worry too much though, between the three of us I think we can take just about anything that tries to confront us outside of the safe zone.” She gave a smile towards the others, trying to pass of the courage behind her words. She fought to avoid looking around, knowing that it would be entirely in vain. “Besides, our biggest concern for now is taking down Cerberus – not worry about someone who wants to watch us from the shadows.”

Yuki's eyes would glow, confirming her use of the searching skill. Her eyes would pierce directly into Dazia's. There's no way could have missed their searing gazes meet. When Vigilon would speak up, asking if something was wrong, Yuki would deactivate her searching skill and shake her head. "You never know when some low-life could be lurking in the shadows to catch you by surprise. As a leader, it's my job to keep people safe. Luckily we are alone at this moment." The paladin would hide Dazia's position. The girl had a green cursor but Yuki had found her before she could catch them by surprise, if she had ill intent. If she did, she would have to contend with a frontliner. As such there was no need to intervene.

"Let us be on our way then. It's a far walk from town to the Cerberus cave." Yuki would mention before starting to make her way out of town. While on their way, she would activate her searching skill again, checking all the corners for any malicious individuals or mobs, while simultaneously keeping her eye on Dazia.

Dazia stopped dead in her tracks when the pink haired player gave her a piercing stare upon eye contact. She barely overheard Vigilon ask if something was wrong. She could be wrong, but she could have sworn she heard the player claim there wasn't anything there... Dazia knew she was seen, so this player had chosen to cover up Dazia's presence...there must be something going on. Even if the pink haired player wasn't a threat, what of the purple haired one?

Do either of the two you're with know of me?

Upon pressing send, she hastily closed her menu and attempted to remain hidden behind the stone. The pink haired player already knew she was here, but hopefully either she wasn't found or called out, or there were no actual threats. She only felt the necessity to play it safe, but since she'd been seen, it wouldn't be for long, anyway.

Both players seemed to be sure that nothing was wrong. Nari noted that she felt watched back in the settlement, but she also seemed to be confident that the party could handle anything. The pink haired player claimed that as a leader, their job was to keep everyone safe, but that the party was alone as of the moment. "I usually try to be attentive to my surroundings too, leader or no." Vigilon agreed. "I guess I've gotten jumpy due to all those run ins with various-"

!?!?

A message notice appeared in front of Vigilon...from Dazia. After reading it's contents, he sighed. "Could you two give me a second?" He asked his party members, before turning around and walking right over to the stone that he'd noticed a cowl poking out from. "Alright now, come on out." He said. Upon no response, Vigilon took matters into his own hands. He took hold of, and lifted up an unamused looking Dazia and walked back over to the party before setting her down. Vigilon might not have been that much taller than Dazia, but his training had eventually resulted in him having enough strength to manage this. "Okay, so..." Vigilon began. "Nari, Yuki, this is Dazia..." He introduced. As of the moment, Vigilon believed that Dazia was just being wary, for she had a least a small number of enemies...one of which being Krysta, as well as pretty much most of the players who Krysta tipped off...but there was only one way to know for sure. "So...just to make sure we're all on the same page, why were you shadowing us just now?"  He asked Dazia. "I'm pretty sure you would have avoided us if you thought these two were potential threats."

Nari watched as Vigilon spotted short, his attention drawn to a message he had just received. There seemed to almost be a change in him…a difference in his stance, in his emotions. She barely registered as he spoke to them, her attention on full alert as he headed for a stone. Shifting so that her spear fell into her hand, in a relaxed grip, but with the point angled slightly forwards. She watched as he reached over, picking up what appeared to be…a girl?

Baffled, and unsure of what to make of it all – other than the fact that it likely wasn’t an immediate threat, Nari let her spear lean back into her shoulder, cocking her head as the girl was planted before the trio, and introduced as…Dazia?

“I’m…sure there’s a story here, and I’d be interested to hear all about it later, but do we need to worry about this one?” Her head tilted towards the girl before them, as if in signal. Her eyes had taken a darker look, more aware and the happy-go-lucky attitude previously on her face had been replaced by a stoic readiness. An awareness that spoke of danger brewing, and a readiness to react to that danger as required.
