"Here we go again.." the bluenette sighed, knowing that things had just picked up in game. This also meant that everyone had to be way more serious, and give in their best of efforts. And so she tried her best, abiding by the rule. Slowly she attempted to do a sword skill with her curved blade, but lost footing when a vine had happened to trip her, making the teen fall down before she could perform any damage on the seed pod. "I'll get you next time," Haine frowned at the seed pod before springing back up to her feet and back to the line. She was not even close to giving up. This was just the beginning. Battle Dice: 3.. Her blade aiming for the seedpod as she had attempted to strike at it. As she had failed she had moved back next to Haine looking forward once more at the seedpod. "Next time we'll get it!" She spoke hoping to cheer her up at the situation ahead of them. A bright grin appearing on her face as she had looked forward at her enemies. Drawing back the huge cleaving axe, she whipped the heavy weapon around, the thin shaft flexing as it whistled through the air on a collision course with Nikki, who's armor had protected her last time... Battle Dice: 7 + 3 Damage: 1 + 3 = 4 Result: The heavy blade struck forcefully, enough to send her sliding backwards despite her even footing. The glowing red slash across her torso showed that her avatar had taken damage from the attack, as her armor's ability had been depleted with the last blocked attack. Saix 0 Posted July 18, 2014 Author #124 Report Share Posted July 18, 2014 Watching the health bars of the various parties deplete, Saix bit the inside of his cheek before releasing a quiet '[censored]..' beneath his breath. That healing ability had really screwed things up. They would have had the boss down under half health had she not re-summoned the pods. Had things continued like they had before, he would have ordered the squads to simply attack on the boss's turn. But they were taking the poison damage much faster... It appeared as though the first phase of the battle had been a trap. Designed to lure them into believing that they could simply dps through the damage. When the second wave of pods spawned, it would have quickly overwhelmed the group with damage. Focusing on the pods and proceeding cautiously had proven to be essential, it may very well have saved them. But, they had taken quite a bit of damage. Saix wasn't worried, he had just the thing in mind for that. Reaching into his belt pouch, he withdrew the corked vial he had crafted himself. The only good crafting item he had ever managed to create, as most tended to simply explode. Throwing the vial towards the center of the room, the glass container shattered, and a soft breeze blew through the boss room, working it's healing effect on all those gathered, healing each of the Raid Team by 5. Satisfied that he had done his best to keep them alive, espeically those who were getting close to the single digits, Saix readied his Rapier and charged the still undamaged pod. Battle Dice: 4 + 2 = 6 Success Damage: 1 + 2 = 3 Result: His blade pierced deep into the mottled and slightly pulsating pod, thick foul smelling goo leaking from the whole created by his needle sharp blade. He glanced at the boss, in its final form, and shook his head returning his attention back to the Pods. He took a few steps back as he watched the Pods release their nauseous gas and took at step back. "No sense in keeping the tanks waiting or leave all the fun to them. After all I want a shot at that last hit prize just like all the others." He crossed the blades in his hands in front of his chest, clenching the one in his mouth, and dashed at the Pod with all his speed. Battle result: 2+2 = Miss! (Sword Skill: Demon Slash cooldown 2 turns) Zero overshot his attack and tripped jumping over the Pods in order to not slam into it. "Damn it..." He muttered in spite, becoming angered by the Pods annoyance. Rushing forward, he stabs his blade into the pod, depleting more of its hit points as a red gash appears where he impaled it. Slamming the sword down, she released an earth shattering blow that was hard enough to crack the cobblestone floor. Vandal knew that technically that applied to himself as well, he was just lucky that his <> Skill made him so damn hard to kill, but Yunah and Ayane had dipped really close to the red zone before Saix had used that Hi Potion of his. They needed to kill these pods fast, before the damage started getting too far out of hand. Gripping Gram in his hands, he grit his teeth and focused everything into dealing one, huge, blow. Time to finish this thing off... When he brought the blade down in a savage overhand chop, he hit the pod perfectly, and like a baseball hitting the sweet spot on a bat, he knocked it out of the park. Gram's massive blade cut all the way through the pod, slamming into the cobblestone hard enough to spark as it cut the offending poison spewer in half. He barely had time to register the feat before the two halves dissolved into polygon sparkles. Yeah, that's what I'm talkin about dammit. As he charges at it with his blade, he hoped to get at least a decent hit on it. I start running toward the pod at full speed, hoping to hit it. My legs slide to a stop and I go to the side of it and I lunge at the Pod. I smile a bit as I hear a crunch of where I stabbed into the Seed pods skin/flesh type thing. I hop back but fall into a coughing fit, the poison from the pods awfully pungent. After all, Ayane had dropped under half life there for a minute when the monster hit them with that area attack. When it came her turn to attack again, she moved to the side, looking for an oppening, before darting in a stabbing deep into the giant plant woman's torso with her Yamikiba. Battle Dice: 7 + 2 Damage: 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 damage Applies Bleeding for 3 turns Result: Her blade penetrated deep into the flesh, deep enough for the bleeding bonus to trigger, and Ayane pulled the blade free and once again scrambled back to the tanks, so that she could take cover behind Nikki as she had been told too. Right now that target was the little human that had just struck it. Advancing menacingly, she drew back her great axe, attempting to move herself into position to attack Ayane. There was, however, a problem with this route and that problem was a certain blue haired tank. With her primary target blocked, Guaridan shifted to a secondary attack routine, and loosed a huge overhead slash at Nikki instead, as she was blocking her path to her intended target. Battle Dice: 10 + 3 Damage: 1 + 3 + 2 = 6 Result: [Now that the skill system is live, and we can play with the epic capabilities that allows us; I am going to let Nikki herself explain the result of this attack in her next post. Nikki Styx 0 Posted July 25, 2014 #134 Report Share Posted July 25, 2014 Not a moment after declaring her ability to hold off the Guardian Nikki was met with a surprising attack. The same Vines from the beginning of the fight whipped out again, striking he and her companions a second time. Luckily her armor held and she sustained only minor damage from the sheer force of the impact. She looked over her shoulder to see that both Ayane and Miaki had suffered from that blow, and a sense of failure crept over the blue haired tank. She had allowed it to strike her companions again, and now it seemed as though there was little she could do to actually protect them. She closed her eyes and lowered her head for a moment only to feel Miaki's hand on her shoulder. She looked back to him as he told her that the fight was almost over. He still had faith in her, he hadn't ordered her back, he was still behind her, supporting her, Maybe she was doing alright after all. She quickly cast him a smile before returning her attention to the Guardian. All around the battle continued to rage on, the various groups attacking their Pods, and slowly the poison began to feel like it was failing. Nikki's confidence began to resurface as they drew closer to victory. She noticed the Guardian coming at her again, and she responded by locking her legs on the spot and raising her shield. She was however not fast enough as the giant axe seemed to come out of nowhere crashing into her. She gasped as her health dropped and the read pixelated line lit up across her torso. She had even slid backwards a few inches on the loose earth she had been standing on. Her mind suddenly raced as she tried to figure out what the hell had just happened. Had it been her armor failing? was the attack just too large? or was this some new tank busting ability? In the end it didn't matter, she couldn't allow this thing to hit anyone else with that attack. In a flash she steadied herself and prepared for another assault. Nikki stared up at the guardian now as she lined up another shot. The only thing, the bluenette could think of was keeping the guardian occupied, holding her here, and allowing her team to keep fighting. It didn't matter how heavy the shots were, or how many she had to take, she just had to keep it up no matter what. A moment later another large attack smashed into her. This time she had been prepared and had not been moved by the massive swing, however the damage had gone up by 50% as the boss had scored a hyper critical attack. More health ticked off of her and she let out a low groan feeling herself rattled from the inside out. She could only imagine what the people watching her in the hospital were thinking as her heart raced and her body bruised. Still though the line was held, she was intact and her team was safe. As the battle raged on Ayane slipped past her and attacked the Guardian. The young member of the Vanguard had managed a solid hit and planted a bleed effect on the guardian. Nikki gave a loud cheer as the sergeant slipped back to the safety behind her again. The battle had continued to rage on and one of the Pods had even suffered a defeat. The air had grown less thick now. That coupled with the success of the bleed attack had lifted Nikki's spirits considerably. Of course the Guardian had taken notice of the new attacker and now wished to hand out some return punishment, as it menaced in on the tank group. Nikki however was not about to let it get to Ayane, not now, not ever. She took a few steps towards the hulking boss to intercept it properly. As she obstructed it the Guardian was forced to change its target, and focus back in on her. "That's right sweet heart.. Its just you and me here" Nikki hissed venomously as she raised her shield again. The guardian raised her axe now and in one horrifying moment brought it crashing down onto Nikki. The impact was like nothing before ever heard in Aincrad. The largest boss to date had just collided with the strongest tank in play in the single greatest point of conflict. Up until now the age old question of what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object had no answer, but now it seemed that that question would finally be answered. The initial contact was so forceful that debris and dirt was thrown up in all directions creating a shroud that surrounded Nikki, and the lower portion of the Boss. The sound of that axe meeting the Blade Shield was comparable to that of a flash bang grenade and it rang out violently as if to try and silence the battle around. With the could of Debris no one could see what had happened to Nikki, and for anyone watching could only hold their breaths and hope that everything was ok. Slowly the dust began to settle, little by little the air cleared. Some described a ringing in their ears several moments after the impact. Little by little the air cleared and after several tense moments the Silhouette of the Blue haired tank could be seen standing in the clouds center. The Guardians mighty axe hung over her head, and pressed against it was her shield, holding it in place, keeping it from moving any further. Nikki's head was hung low, her hair draped over her face shrouding her expression from everyone around her. The ground at her feet was cracked and torn up from the impact, but she looked no worse for the wear. The Immovable Object had won. Damage Dealt by Guardian: 6 Damage Soak Threshold (DST): 8 Result: All Damage Negated The Boss had loosed another Hyper critical attack, and in that moment Nikki found her resolve and truly became Aincrads most powerful Tank, stopping it entirely in its tracks. Everyone was here, and now no one could deny that she truly was indestructible. She flashed a sinister grin as she pressed the weight of the axe off of her shield allowing it to fall free, and smash into the ground beside her. She stood upright now staring up at the Guardian with displeasure. Her eyes narrowed and in a flash she thrust her spear up into the Guardians ribs. Dice: 9+2=11 Hit. Critical Hit Damage: 1 Base + 3 Spear Skill + 2 Weapon Level + 1 Standard + 1 Potion + 1 Critical = 9 Damage Perhaps it was the momentum she had received from her block, or maybe the Guardian had been shaken by its loss, But the result had been a glorious critical strike. Nikki's spear had pierced cleanly through it, avoiding all of the armor that the oversized woman had, and pierced clean through to her far side effectively impaling the boss entirely. She held her ground for a moment, as thick green blood poured from the wound. After a moment she gave her spear a sharp pull, and in one quick movement she loosed it from the Guardians body. She cast a quick glance over her shoulder now catching sight of Miaki and Ayane. Suddenly her mind began to race. This was a simple boss. It held simple mechanics, and followed a simple pattern. Before it had attacked her over and over again because she had been the last to strike it, in fact every target the Guardian had gone after had been the last person to land a hit. Just now it had been Ayane, but Nikki had been in the way. Suddenly the answer was clear to her. Miaki, Ayane, Attack the pods... She only attacks the last hit.. Me... Kill the pods then everyone mobs her. Nikki turned her gaze back to the guardian as she raised her shield again. "No one attack her until all the pods are down... If yer pod goes help take out the next. Ill keep her occupied, the poison will kill us long before she kills me." Nikki shouted to all of the combatants. Finally a valuable weakness had been shown, and they would be foolish not to exploit it. Given her new plan she took a quick second to down one of her potions. This one, a health potion, tasted awful, but she immediately felt its restorative properties go to work as her health instantly replenished a few points. Her smile widened as she prepared herself for the next attack. She had hatred, now all she had to do was wait. The group would destroy the pods, and before long they would be all over her. He then turned back to face the pod that was in front of him, they had to take down the pods so the boss could be taken down faster. He drew his katana and charged at the pod, he swung his sword from right to left, leaving a red gash in the pod. After hitting the pod, he jumped backwards to where his squad was. When Miaki wasn't attacking the boss directly, he was fending off her vine attacks; keeping them away from himself and Nikki to the best of his abilities. Nikki, being the tank, was taking the Guardian head on. But she was still open to getting hit from the sides. This is where Miaki stepped in. As he stood directly behind Nikki she would protect the front while he watched her back, which meant slashing at the vines coming from the sides. One particular AOE attack threw them off though. Nikki bore up her shield to defend them and blocked the attack but Miaki wasn't prepared for a splash effect, yet it happened. The pain wasn't that bad at all and his health was high enough to allow for a laugh. He noticed Nikki glance over her shoulder at Miaki when the attack had hit him. He didn't want her to feel concern for him for getting hit once. He quickly gave her a half smile and a thumbs up to say he was okay. What happened moments later though made him almost rush in head on without a care for himself. <> readied her axe for another attack and based on how far back the axe was being brought he knew it would be a strong one. "NIKKI! BATTLEAXE! INCOMING!" He screamed in warning to her. Nikki quickly braced and held her <> up to block. The sound of the impact and the shockwave slid Miaki's footing several meters away. Miaki's heart stopped. He ran hard forward towards the dust cloud. NIIIIIIIKKIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!" He screamed, blinded by panic and love. He was ready to show her his wraith as he began to rush through the exterior point of the dust cloud and could barely see anything until the dust had time to settled. He had veered away from where Nikki was standing to where he thought she was. The important thing was though that she was still alive and not only that, appeared to be unaffected by the attack. Miaki slid several feet forward into a grinding halt. Nikki had managed to block the full force of the impact and was unmoved by it. Nikki was in the zone. Talking back to the Guardian as it threw everything it had at her. Miaki began to cover the small distance between them when he saw Nikki look back at him and Ayane. She began to issue her orders while raising her shield and facing the boss again. She was telling him to pull away and help the others attack the seed pods. While he did hear everything she said, it was taking some time for him to precess it and react properly. He didn't want to leave her side. His job was to protect her from now on. He promised her. But he also promised to follow her every order; her every word. "I need to know that you are right where I need you to be in case anything goes wrong. Yer my second, and if my health falls to low, I need you ready and at my side." Those were her exact words. Looking at her current health bar, Nikki was at half health and should let him switch out with her. But she ordered him to focus his efforts elsewhere. There he stood conflicted for a few moments. He wanted to rush in and agro the Guardian. How stupid of him not to realize that it was only so smart to attack the last player that hit it. He should jump in now and pull it to him for the next attack. But he couldn't. He had to trust her judgement and strength. She was placed in charge and he swore to obey. If he couldn't trust her, how could she trust him. Resolving himself Miaki gave a firm, "Yes Ma'am!" and pulled back, moving towards the other targets. "Yunah! Use another potion NOW!" He ordered, his voice quivering with the fear that something might happen to her and it would happen on his watch. He would never forgive himself that he allowed her to participate in the boss raid and something happened to her. Granted it was her choice and she pleaded and begged to join but it was still his call. Noticing her obey his order, Miaki pulled away from the center of the boss room and assessed the situation looking for where he was most needed. Battle Results: Hit! 8 DMG! (1 base + 1 sword + 4 rank + 2 potion) Miaki sprinted towards the group around the second seed pod. The players around it were having a somewhat difficult time with the poison emitting around the room and Miaki couldn't blame them as he began to cough up a lung when he got closer to the source of the poison filling the gases. Just shy of two meters away, the <> jumped the last of the distance and took out the seed pod showing little to no effort needed. "Squad C! Lets get over to Squads B and F. These SOBs are almost gone. Mind the poison and Let's move!" He ordered. But first she was still a little bit low on health, and so she pulled a health potion out of her pocket and drank it. she promised Miaki that she would at least survive through this, and that she would do... and besides if she lived through this then maybe she could have a date with Light.she ran towards her pods wanting to Down it... Battle Dice: 4 +2 = 6 hit! 1 base + 1 Rank = 2 damage Yunah slashed down on the pod leaving a gash in it, then she jumped backwards in order for the next person in her squad to attack... the pod was almost down. He activated and in an instant he flashed forward slashing upward and cleaving through the pod once more, this time with devastating results. Wheeling the huge blade back, and coming forward like a rampaging beast, she struck out again in a blow that would shattered the cobblestone floor, only for the huge axe to once again meet the shield in a shower of sparks. With a sound of screaming metal on metal, the axe was deflected off the shield, only feeding her rage.
