» About:

An outsider to begin with.

Born in America to a Japanese mother and an American father. Even in this modern era, it seemed as though some things just never changed. And in this case, it was a wealthy, selfish man's desire to show off a beautiful, exotic wife; taking her, who had no knowledge of the foreign country's language and customs, from her homeland. But still Natalie's mother endured, quickly adapting to her new lifestyle and becoming as close as possible to being a perfect wife. Patient, kind, loving. And as clichéd as it was, her husband found himself truly falling for her, taking the time to teach her about America, even learning Japanese himself as time went on. A year later, Natalie Shimizu Taylor was born, a blissful child with fair hair and large blue eyes - a surprising combination that quite defied natural genetics, as Natalie's mother was certain that most of her ancestry had been Japanese. But the delicate appearance that she had inherited from her mother, coupled with the blonde hair and sapphire blue eyes from her father, garnered much praise from others, especially as the child grew up.

A rapidly, crumbling world.

The first fifteen years of her life passed by without significant adversity. Natalie was popular, both for her looks and her personality, and school was an environment she thrived in. Smart, with a highly analytic mind, her teachers sung praises to her, high expectations through the roof - yet she would always reach them and go beyond, a genius of sorts. Sports, although not a personal preference of hers, was no issue, she particularly excelled at tennis and swim, speed making up for her small stature. But music ... music was something she loved. The piano, the violin, the flute - all instruments that she had mastered, along with her lovely voice that she shared to no one but those closest to her. Socially, she was well known for being out-going yet polite, responsible and helpful. Despite her high social status, she was always willing to include everyone, and provide aid to whoever needed it - this was something not approved by some of the snobbier students in her group of friends, but no one appeared to particularly mind.

That is, until her father's company began its spiralling descent into the ground. Suddenly, friends were no longer friends. And ceaselessly, the bullying began. At first it was just the occasionally snubbing, words said by Natalie that would go unheard to her close friends. Then she became like a ghost to those she had called her best friends, empty gazes staring right through her. And one day, the actual harassment began. Harsh words lashed out at her, physical assaults that weren't serious enough to give her permanent injuries, yet became more and more pronounced as time went on.  Until one day, walking alone at the mall to avoid being questioned by her parents about her sudden lack of friends, a push came from behind as she prepared to go down the stairs, forcing her to crash down to the bottom.

The "accident" - as it was ruled - left her in a month long coma.

A land called home?

Waking up from the coma unfortunately did not mean a full recovery. Her legs that had been damaged required physiotherapy - care that her immediate family could not afford to pay. And so, after weeks of arguments, her mother decided to take her back to Japan, where therapy would be paid for a provided by Natalie's maternal grandparents.

By her sixteenth birthday, she would be reintegrated into the school system in Japan. However, Natalie was no longer the cheerful girl she used to be. Haunted by her past of betrayal, suffering, and pain, she withdrew from social contact, self-confidence at a newfound, rockbottom low. Words, on the rare occasion that they were uttered by her, were spoken in soft whispers, as though terrified that one little slip up could end her world once more. Actions were done carefully - albeit timidly - and she appeared to no longer enjoy any of her past activities.

Discovering a new world.

Virtual Reality MMORPG was something introduced to her by her grandparents on her seventeenth birthday, in the form of a gift. In the mass ordering that had ensued for the release of Sword Art Online, she found herself in a new world, one where she could build a life for herself, without the fear of being judged for external matters out of her hands. And so, even with the terrifying announcement of being unable to escape the game, she found herself immersed within the world of Aincrad.

With newfound confidence, and a happiness that she had thought was long gone, her past personality came back - but with a darker twist. Natalie was reborn as Aleyna.

» Virtues:

.  Innocent Charm ; A virtue to be used to her advantage. The fact that the game forces the player to take on their appearance in real life served as no disadvantage for Natalie - or Aleyna, as she was now known in-game. Utilizing her sweet, innocent image to her disposal, coupled with a honey-coated tongue, she often gives off the image of someone that needs to be protected. This allows her to easily catch people off guard, and friendships are formed faster, helping her along in the early stages of the game.

. Sharp Mind ; Aleyna possesses a sharp mind, even more refined than it had been in her earlier years at school. Perceptive; she is quick to pick up on things, whether it be social cues or danger signals in battle. Although she likes to act helpless in critical situations, she is often already thinking of her own plan - one that would normally prioritize her own safety over others.

. Sense of Survival ; Aleyna's own sense of survival is an integral part of her in-game character. Determined to make up for the suffering she had gone through in the real world, she has a steely sense of determination to stay alive in the game, to the point where she is tempted to remain in the game forever if it was possible. Her survival instinct adds in the touch of caution that her otherwise innocent image would not contain, making her quite the formidable player.

» Flaws:

. Disloyal ; It isn't that she is disloyal by nature. Aleyna herself often wishes to make long lasting relationships, to have a close-knit group of friends. But the distrust that had blossomed within her no longer allows that to occur. Along with her sense of survival is the prioritizing of her own well-being, even if it means abandoning friends and comrades. This doesn't occur too often - especially as she rises up in level - but in critical situations where the situation calls either for the potential sacrifice of herself to save her comrades, or for her to run off and save herself, the latter option will be chosen. It is a self-taught lesson that Aleyna has repeatedly forced herself to remember and uphold - proving that it is a shaky flaw that may one day come crumbling down.

. Claustrophobia ; Small, confided spaces isn't the issue. It's the fear of not being able to move. Even being in a short period of paralysis can send Aleyna into a debilitating fear, often resulting in a panic attack and - on rare occasions - passing out. Temporary paralysis sends an adrenaline rush through her, and if she is able to break out of the paralysis, then she is fine, although shaken and likely to not be at full potential.

. Apathy ; Rather surprisingly, Aleyna has developed a sense of apathy towards player deaths - as long as it isn't her own. Given the choice, she would mark herself as a player killer by taking a life if it meant getting something she desperately wanted. Even the realization that death meant both in game and in real life doesn't seem to faze her. Of course, if someone close to her died, she may be emotionally affected by their loss, but death itself is only part of the game to her.
