[F04; PP] Revenge | <<The Night's King>>

Recommended Posts

They'd survived the onslaught against the town, although Nari still wasn't entirely sure how. Whatever the case, she was just happy that they were alive - and that they'd managed to complete the quest at all. Don't kick a gift horse in the groin. Shaking her head, in a small portion of disbelief, as well as amusement at her own thoughts, Nari turned to face Jomei.

"Thoughts on taking a bit of revenge on this Night King? Seems like someone who deserves a good kick in the ass for everything we had to go through here...not to mention a bit of revenge for those who didn't make it..." Her final words were barely a whisper, spoken more in thought to herself than meant for the ginger's ears. She knew that none of the NPCs stayed dead - they would respawn the moment the quest or event had completed, going about their lives as though nothing had ever occurred. Still, somehow in her mind it felt wrong to forget that they had died. That their very essence had been removed from existence, even if it was only for a short period of time. It felt to her, in her way, as if it was important to keep pretending that everyone here could die - if only because it kept her more...herself. "Assuming you're not afraid, that is. I figure we just crushed most of his army, so the final portion of this should be...easy..."

For the second time that day, Nari kicked herself mentally for not getting more details about the quest line prior to heading out for it. She'd done little work in information gathering, leading them straight into a warzone without prior preparation. Now, she was considering leading them straight into a king's keep without any prior knowledge of what waited for them, or the dangers that they would possibly face. As if there was nothing more to it than a simple walk through a sunny valley, skipping along collecting flowers. If only everything here was so lovely...

"We should...probably prepare a bit for this one though...I've got a few consumables that may be worth taking a look at...err...one second..." She pulled up her menu, before flipping it around for Jomei to see, a small list of consumables displayed on it - some of the more common pieces that she'd bought some time ago, as well as a few extras that she'd either created herself, or custom ordered. "Anything you want, feel free to grab. I've got plenty, for the most part..."

  • 2 weeks later...

Jomei's path had already been set, eyes glaring daggers at the icy, mountaintop castle. The fortress had once been hidden, most likely to deter payers from attempting to skip the first portions of this quest. However, as the two fended off the Night King's forces, the ominous clouds that obscured the mountain peak parted and faded, inviting - no, daring the two to approach. So as Nari began to bring up the topic of revenge once more, Jomei's feet were already carrying him forward, the snow crunching below his boots with each foot fall. "Afraid? No, not at all.." his expression determined, serious. "That King, sitting up in his throne.. we're going to make him pay for what he sent his soldiers to do to these poor people, with no means to defend themselves."

The fact that Nari had mentioned it as well meant that she shared the same, if not a similar, sentiment as he. These townsfolk that they saved, and those less fortunate, they were just parts of this computer program of a game, meant to just simulate human life. They'd complete the quest, the town would return to normal, with all of its inhabitants, waiting for the next party of players to show up. He could not think like that though.. not anymore. These people felt real enough, and he felt partially responsible for the lives and structures that were lost because they could not prepare enough. This wasn't merely them tying up the end of this quest, this was revenge.

"Thanks" Jomei mentioned as Nari showed him a menu of items at their disposal. Jomei was never one to carry consumables, so he always appreciated when others would share with him, "I owe you one." Snagging two items from the list, he took note of the various performer songs at the bottom of the list. "We should keep some of those on hand for the fight.. Some of those debuffs could prove handy, if not the quick healing."

Nari nodded, half-listening as Jomei thanked her and then proffered the need to keep some on hand. Nari smiled at him, before shrugging ever so slightly. "No need to fret, I always keep some extras lying around...just in case. Plus, with how we handle things...the King should be afeared of us."

Her eyes turned towards the castle in the distance, a hardness coming into her expression. The once invisible keep, hidden behind clouds that had kept it from their view, now stood proudly against the skies and sunlight, basking in elegance and likely designed to intimidate whomsoever looked upon it. I do not fear you. You are nothing, compared to the darkness I've faced previously.

"For now, let's just...get there. And make sure to brutally obliterate anything that the King sends to get in our way." She tossed a single smile towards Jomei, in an attempt to appease herself more than him, before taking her first steps off towards the mountain and the keep atop it. With any luck, they'd arrive unimpeded. And perhaps defeating the King will let us all be free...yeah, right...

The inured expression he wore on his face whittled away slightly as a kind, half smile broke through. Nari seemed just as confident in their success as Jomei did, which meant she was either underestimating their foe.. or she too was swallowing down that pit of fear that weighed heavily in their gut. He continued to steel himself in the face of the unknown might of the Night King, for he couldn't let Nari worry about him when the time came, else they might both pay a hefty price. So with that confident, warm smile on his face, he would gently bump his fist into Nari's shoulder, holding it there for a moment and offering a nod, before the two continued to set off towards their destination.

For the most part, the path leading up the mountain towards the King's abode was without danger. A few, floor scaled monsters along the way that the two were able to avoid, or take down with ease. The weather, however, was a monster of its own that the two could not avoid. The treacherous blizzard that had once obscured the castle in a blanket of snow and fog had never truly left the perimeter. It was no coincidence that the storm grew stronger and stronger the closer the two pushed towards the ice-coated doors of the castle.. and if it was, then the two were incredibly unlucky.

Fighting the wind that whipped in every direction, like some snow-based hurricane, Jomei extended a hand to grasp the large, ornate handles of the castle's doors. As if placing a hand on a hot stove - but painless, leaving an overwhelming, numbing sensation - Jomei wrapped his fingers around the handle and pulled, the wind throwing the door open with a resounding slam that shook bits of ice and snow from the carved archway above them. "Come on!" Jomei shoted, his voice muffled by the roar of the storm. Once Nari was inside, he would pull the door shut. "Well.. wasn't that fun." he would say sarcastically, forcefully brushing off any snow and ice that clung to his person.

Nari giggled at the words that escaped the ginger, before looking back at the door they had entered through. Almost instinctively, her response slipped from her own lips, a tinge of sarcasm drawling them. "What...does that mean you're not looking forward to the walk back, either? And here I thought you were all about that snow and cold and wind!"

Turning back to the area they'd just entered, Nari let her gaze roam over what was clearly meant to be a rendition of a medieval styled castle, designed with all the flares and flashings that one would expect to find in a building made for the lavish and rich; the signs of power in those days.

"Fancy place...too bad we're going to kill whomever it belongs to..." There was no hint of sorrow in Nari's voice as she ran her hand along a nearby frame, the picture inside long worn away and invisible to the eye. She took a few steps forward, glancing back at Jomei as she went, before coming to a stop at an intersection; the hallway going to her left and her right. "So...when in doubt, go left?"

She took a couple steps towards the left direction, turning back to wave a hand, as if signifying that the other should lead the way. "Erm...gentleman first, and all that?"

The ginger let out a dry chuckle in response to Nari's teasing about his 'preferred' choice of weather. "Oh yeah, totally. I just love it... Honestly, I'm more of an autumn guy.. not too hot, not terribly cold." The interior of the castle wasn't much better than the outside in terms of temperature, but at least they didn't have to deal with wind that could rip you off of your feet if you weren't careful. The ginger moved across the foyer to a torch on the opposite wall, burning a blue light similar to the torches wielded by the King's horse bound captains. Raising two open palms up to the flame, he would rub his hands together, hoping the fire would bring him some warmth.. "That's a weird sensation..." he would say, curiously tilting his head, "The torches aren't even hot.. they almost feel like shoving your hand in an open icebox.." With a heavy, defeated sigh, he would pull his hands back into the comfort of his cloak.

Jomei scoffed as Nari invited him to go first, with a 'gentlemen first' comment. "Normally, I'd be chivalrous and correct you.." his eyes peered down the left corridor, "But under the circumstances, I won't."  Slowly taking his rapier from its scabbard once more, Jomei would move past Nari into the hallway. Torches burning blue, icy fire illuminated the hallway. Doorways lined each side, some of them fallen off the hinges or shattered upon repair, three rooms on each side with what appeared to be a spiraling staircase that led upwards at the far end. The sound of crunching glass pierced the silence as Jomei took a step, looking down he saw what appeared to be a large portrait or mirror of sorts laying face down under his boot. "This place has seen better days..." he said under his breath as he continued forward, "I suppose it makes sense for a guy with an army of undead, frozen soldiers.."

Peeking into an adjacent room, Jomei stopped and caught Nari's attention. "Look." pointing his finger into the small, almost entirely frozen over chamber. It appeared to be a storeroom of sorts, cabinets, cleaning supplies, and tools encased in a thick wall of ice. Right in the center, however, was a single chest, only partially succumbed to the cold. "Might as well see what's inside." The ginger would step into the room, cautious not to slip on the icy floor. He would lower to a knee before the chest and flip open the lid, "Not much.. but its something." he would send over Nari her share. Turning back towards her, his expression would harden, "Wait.. did you hear that?" The sound of footsteps from down the hallway, coming in their direction. Jomei would wave Nari deeper into the store room with him as he pressed his back against the wall out of their view. "Wait for my que.. we'll get the jump on them... Wait... wait... now!" Quickly turning the corner, Jomei was met with four skeletal figures, each one wearing bits of fur or armor and with eyes that burned the same blue as the torches.

Nari smiled briefly as Jomei strode past, before shaking her head and following the ginger. Her eyes roamed around the castle, the clean and liveable entrance giving way as they went deeper through the hallways, before they came upon what was clearly a destitute and aged home; something that had seen no care or upkeep for some time. Where the entrance had contained an almost welcoming vibe, the inner hallways and rooms showed the true state of the castle and keep - something left to the care of others whom had left long ago, leaving it to rot and disintegrate as time willed it.

"Lovely place..." Nari mumbled as they passed another broken doorway, the thing seemingly broken in some attempt to open it - at least, as far as Nari could tell. What little charm their entrance had upon the woman, was lost as they made their way further and further into the area.

Jomei stopped at the doorway to another room, glancing in before pointing at something that Nari couldn't see. Before she could stop him, the man had entered the room, carefully moving across the ice towards what was slowly forming into a chest. "Hey...hey wait! What are you...doing...and he opened it. Have you learnt noth...ugh, forget it."

She stopped as she heard the sounds of something...pounding?...in the distance, reminiscent of footsteps approaching. Nari snuck to the side of the doorway, pulling herself into the shadows as Jomei up across from her. He began counting down after she nodded her understanding, leaping out as he finished and striking the collection of figures that had appeared.

She wasted no time following his lead, letting her feet carry her to the collection of bodies - bodies? Those are skele-fuck! - and ducking beneath Jomei's wide arc, before slamming her scythe across the lower appendages of the creatures, watching as three of them exploded into shards and left a single one standing. "Looks like the leader...careful now, he looks angry with you!"

Just as quickly as they had started the fight, they were finishing it. The fantastic combination of devastating strikes from both Jomei and Nari had easily decimated the skeletal warriors, leaving only the one elite standing.. though barely. The group hardly had the time to react, let alone notice the two rush from the store room before they had been destroyed. The blue flames that served as pupils in the remaining warrior darted between the two players, seemingly burning brighter with fury.

Only a single target, Jomei's specialty. He was never one for fighting multiple targets at once, though he had to make some exceptions with recent events. Locking eyes with his target, Jomei drew his rapier back, the blade igniting in a a golden light. The gold suddenly grew into a radiant, white light that almost took the appearance of a flame that danced upon the surface of his weapon. Thrusting his hand forward, the blade plunged deep into the ribcage of the skeleton, easily piercing through its armor as if it were not even there. The blue flames suddenly turned white, matching the white of Jomei's blade, before going dark. The entire body of the skeleton crashed into the ground, before erupting into an array of shards that slowly disappeared.

"Heh, now that we don't have a town to defend on top of fighting.. we can let loose. This King won't know what hit him. Come on, lets keep going."

Nari had taken a step back as the final target turned its angry gaze upon Jomei, the man clearly itching for the chance to finish it off. Swinging her scythe behind her, she leaned against it ever so slightly, the haft driving into the ground as if to create a tripod for her support. She watched the dazzling light as Jomei activated his skill, before piercing the skeleton with enough force to turn it into a collection of shining shards, left to float down onto the ground and disappear from existence.

"No town...certainly does give us a lot more freedom." She pondered the words for a moment, before shaking her head. Likely she was thinking into it too much, and as Jomei had said they could simply let loose now. Still, something gnawed at her mind, drawing the question further and further to the forefront, before finally escaping her lips. "You don't think there's going to be hostages, or anything crazy, do you...?"

She'd never have considered the possibility before, but as they stepped out of the room and back into the hallway it was the only thing on her mind. The way that the town had been assaulted - without question or mercy - left Nari wondering just how far Cardinal would go. It has no issues with killing people, that much is clear. She glanced down the direction they'd been going originally, before nodding her head towards a door at the far end of the corridor. "Looks promising...it's still standing, if nothing else."

More than she could say for the rest of the castle. Still, there were a number of doors along the way that could be searched - most off their hinges or gone entirely - which meant that they'd likely encounter another group or two of these skeletons. "Hey...you think he's gonna be on a throne? Like an ice throne?"

"Hostages?" Jomei repeated the word, as if to allow himself to think over the possibility that Nari had put forth. "Hm.. honestly, I doubt it. What reason would they need to take hostages? Not only that.. but you saw how ruthless they were when attacking the town.." A quick image flashed into his mind of the King's soldier's ripping a family out of their burning home with blades to their throats. The looks on their faces were not ones with any other purpose than to destroy. "I don't think taking prisoners was on their agenda.." His shoulders rose and fell with a shrug as they moved from the front of the store room and continued down the corridor, "And if there are any? We rescue them. Simple as that."

He was confident in his response, but he couldn't help but linger on what Nari had suggested. What if they did take prisoners? Would the two be faced with even more horrors of this war between the King and the town.. if it could even be called a war? The two passed multiple rooms, all seemingly mundane and not worth searching. Though the pathway that caught their attention was the one unknown to them, one of the only few doors at the far end of the hall that was still intact. "Yeah, lets check it out."

"Probably" the man said in response to Nari asking about the King having a throne. "I mean.. don't most castles like this have one? Given how cold it is.. and how much this King seems to love being dramatic, its probably completed covered in ice." Jomei let out a bark of a laugh, "Any normal person's ass would probably end up frozen sitting on it." Humor, that was definitely a way to help bury the small bits of anxiety that bubbled deep within. "Alright, lets check this door out.. the faster we find this throne room and take down the King, the better."

  • 4 weeks later...

Nari found herself giggling at the thought of someone being frozen to the throne, enjoying the peaceful moment. The image in her mind was likely far different from Jomei's own, perhaps even his intent, but nonetheless Nari found herself overly amused by the idea. A nice break from the cruelty they had encountered not that long ago, in the town below the castle itself. She hoped to one day have that scene erased from her mind, but she doubted that it ever would be.

"Snow...looks like this place lives up to its calling, after all..." She trudged through the depths of snow towards the centre of the room, hoping to find something of worth - or perhaps a clue as to where in the nine hells this general, king or whatever they were meant to face could be found. She let her eyes roam around the room, calling out to Jomei even as she looked for anything. "You'd think that they would keep the heat on in this place, at least..."

Her words faded off as she spotted movement on the far side of the room, slowly forming into more of the skeletons that they had already faced. She gave a sigh and groan, as she readied herself to face the creatures once more. "So much for getting a break...well, how about we just bring them to an end here and now, then? Ready, Jomei?"

Without waiting for a response, Nari leapt towards the on-coming group, kicking the haft of her scythe to bring it up and into motion. She slammed the blade into the first skeleton, feeling something snap beneath it, before bringing it backwards and slamming the haft's end into another of the creatures. A final twirl caught the leader of the group - barely missing the third soldier as it sailed around and past. "Now Jomei...switch!"

The ginger's chuckle at Nari's joke came out as more of a shaky hiss as the cold sent another chill down to his bones. "Oh yeah, definitely. Maybe welcome guests at the front door with some hot soup, or a steaming cup of tea." he added on with a smirk. "I'm not really sure the undead need to worry about keeping warm.. and I think a warm castle would kind of kill this King's whole.. icy vibe." The room the two had entered was much larger than the supply closet they first explored. The scattered, long tables - though most broken - and chairs in various states of decay revealed this to be a dining hall of some kind. Light, snow, and wind poured in through tall window frames that once housed elaborate, stained glass designs, though any remnants of such lay somewhere under the thick sheet of white that they trudged through.

"Well, that would explain why its so much colder in here.. and covered in snow." Jomei said while looking at the broken windows. Not much could be seen outside, a couple of feet to what he could assume was the side of the cliff before nothing but the white and grey of the storm encasing the mountaintop. "Since this looks like it may be the largest room on the first floor.. its safe to assume the throne room where we'll find the King is above-"

Nari caught it before Jomei, multiple, skeletal figures rising up from the snow. Icy blue flames for eyes glaring in their direction. Retrieving his sword from his hip once again, he would offer Nari a nod as she ran in to attack. "Lets do this." Jomei would follow up on the assault, jumping into action but a moment after she called for a switch. With a single, powerful slash that cut through the air, he would find all four targets, sending one collapsing back to the ground in the snow. "Alright. They're all stunned.. should give us time to clean up before they can get any hits on us."

Jomei had rushed alongside Nari, moving even before she'd shouted out to him. His fluid movements making Nari feel shame at her own clunkiness - making her remember that he was by and far the more agile of the two. Still, she'd managed to snag a few of them, and even as she watched Jomei put down the first, and grab the last one that she had missed, she remembered again why they worked so well together.

"Nice! Here...let me see if I can't score down this friend a bit more..." She gave her scythe a twirl behind her, turning her attention to the leader of the group. The thing seemed to stare at her blankly as she approached. No sign of hatred, no sign of fear. In fact, as far as Nari could see, no sign of anything behind its empty eyes. She felt a chill at the thought, the true emptiness that was the creature.

Trying to shake off the feeling, she forced her body into motion, taking a few steps forwards, before letting the blade swing upwards and outwards, holding it in a single hand as it soared along her left side towards the creature. Halfway through the arc, she felt the sword art activate - the soft purple glow giving way to purplish flames that danced along the blade's length, aiming for the creature's centre.

Nari switched up her approach and attacked a single target, the one skeleton that stood out as more of a leader type. They had a larger health pool, and seemed to be buffing the other skeletons in some way, not that it was making too much of a difference to the two players as they wiped the floor with them. Despite, knocking the captain of the group down a peg so Jomei could easily take the three remaining out in a single swipe was a good move.

"Smart thinking, Nari." Jomei said with a smirk as he readied himself for his own attack, "I'll finish up here then." Pulling his sword arm back, the elongated blade of his rapier ignited in a white, holy light. Dark shadows began to lick up the blade as well, intermingling and creating their strange sensation of light vs dark upon the surface of his sword. Stepping forth once more, Jomei would swing his blade once through the three skeletons, the shadows and bright lights separating and colliding with the body structure of two of their enemies.

With that single strike, the three skeletons shattered and fell to the ground, leaving no trace of the battle that had just ensued. With a deep exhale, Jomei would release a small fog cloud in front of his lips before returning his sword to its scabbard. "Alright, lets keep moving. Maybe upstairs?"

The afterglow of Jomei's strike seemed to bounce on the corners of Nari's vision, leaving the girl shaking her head slightly to clear it. The small group had been easy enough, and for a second Nari felt a smirk touch her face. "You know...these things are pretty easy. Do you think this king is even going to be a challenge? I mean...his forces are almost disappointing..."

She bit her tongue as she considered the thought. It was never good to get too cocky, especially in this game. Surprises could be waiting where one least expected it, and the last thing she needed to do was walk into a difficult fight, believe that it was far easier just because a few of the more basic troops were cast aside without a sweat.

"Upstairs...yeah, let's go check. And hopefully...hopefully he's as easy as these ones were." She hoped that the change in tone would show that she was still taking this serious - as much as they'd breezed through, she didn't want to make a mistake now. Mistakes cost lives, and she was determined that they would both be walking out of this fight, together.

Leading the way across the large hall, Nari trudged through the snow that seemed to rise in depth the closer they got to the centre. Her mind focused on one thing - getting across the hall and upwards, hoping to find the king and exact their revenge while the fury still burned within her. Images of the town crossed her mind, and she felt her face tightening into a frown.

"Do you ever...think that this game is far, far more brutal than anything else?" Her words came out as a whisper, a hushed tone to them speaking to her sincerity. "We just barge through it sometimes...but it's so dark...I mean we just watched them murder villagers like it was nothing...and we know that they'll respawn as soon as our quest ends. Which somehow makes it okay, for most people. Y'know? So we just...trudge along, and don't consider it a problem..."

Despite the confident, almost playful, tone in Nari's voice when bringing up how simple the assault on this castle has been thus far, Jomei's face remained hardened. Olive eyes remained on the spot where the skeletons once stood, the imprints they left in the snow slowly vanishing as the incoming wind brought with it another fresh dusting of snow. "I feel they've been easy to take down because of our teamwork." he said with a nod. "We've worked pretty well together, making sure that they don't get the chance to land a hit on us... but judging on how difficult they were when they were attacking the town.. this fight could be going a lot differently if we weren't careful and properly outfitted."

Shaking his head, he would sigh and finally turn his gaze towards his companion, "I don't expect the King to be as much of a pushover. Not only is he probably a heavy hitter with a larger health pool.. but we should expect him to throw some additional monsters at us to keep us busy. That's when things will most likely get hairy. But as long as we keep cautious, we should be fine."

Stepping through the snow once more, the two made their way out of the dining hall and back into the snow-less hallway. The large set of stairs that gradually turned to the right rested beside them, whatever lurked beyond waiting for them beyond their vision. The two began up the stairs, slowly and carefully. Jomei's eyes continued to scan each step, wary of any traps, or even patched of unseen ice that they might slip on. Nari finally broke the silence with a rather heavy statement about the brutality of the world they were stuck in.

Jomei was silent for a moment, even stopping in his steps to really think about what Nari had asked. ".. I always have to remind myself that this world isn't real. The only 'real' things here are us, and the danger we face daily. But.. when I see things like that attack on the town, I can't help but feel as if those are real lives being lost. If I just ignored it and didn't show any sort of remorse, that I would just be shedding any humanity that I'm holding onto." He paused for a moment, looking upwards towards the top of the stairs before continuing to walk. "This game is meant to either kill us, or break us."

Nari paused for a few seconds after realising that Jomei had come to a stop, her question apparently having put the ginger into a state of consideration. She waited, patiently, as he seemed to think on his answer, before acknowledging what Nari herself had been feeling. The difficulty between differentiating, the concerns around losing oneself if they let themselves truly fall into the trap; and then the confirmation that either way - they weren't leaving this game in any shape that they had entered it.

"Broken...or dead...not exactly a best seller." Her tone was hushed. Although she'd said the words in jest, there was an underlying seriousness to them, an acknowledgement of just how cruel and punishing this world was. She continued the remainder of the climb in silence, deciding that it was best not to dwell on such horrors prior to taking on the King. A King whom she wanted to enact revenge upon, regardless of how real, or unreal their current world was. "I'm going to make him pay...I don't care if it's just a game."

The stairway gave entrance to a large hall, something that Nari would equate to a worn down banquet or viewing hall - the area wide, pillars on either side spread by a six-foot gap between them, standing several dozen feet tall. She didn't look up, didn't check the height of the room or if it had a ceiling - her eyes locked onto the throne across the distance, standing above the ice and bearing a large being that could only be the Night's King.

The rage flushed through Nari again, the images of the citizens that had been brutalised for Cardinal's amusement, for a simple quest. Without thinking, she felt her body moving, her feet carrying her across the ice. She held the scythe behind her in a ready position, the blade curving upwards and away from the floor in a way that seemed to catch the small glints of light through the windows. She barely reacted as the Night's King stood, as if raising to greet her. Barely reacted as the health bars rose above it, and the skeletons flowed in from the sides. Her gaze remained on him, the cause of all the pain and suffering - the one who she would drive her blade through and finish.

"Broken...or dead...not exactly a best seller."

"No, but I don't think 'you can't log out' would sell many copies either." Despite the serious atmosphere to the conversation, he could not help but break a chuckle at their words. Though, that was the last conversation shared between the two for the rest of the trek up the stairs. Only the sound of the whistling wind, causing windows to rattle, and their footsteps filled the slanted corridor as they continued up. Finally the two came to a long landing, with a torn carpet leading to a tall, double door. The two seemed to stare at the door for a moment, composing themselves, before Nari broke the silence with her own version of a promise of victory - and revenge. Jomei was in no state to disagree with what she was saying, for he was in full agreement. So with a simple nod, the ginger took a step forward and pushed open the two doors.

The large viewing hall showed just as much wear and tear as the rest of the castle. Torn banners - any insignia depicted on them lost - of either the Night King's reign, or a kingdom long past hung from each of the pillars. The opposite side of the room, a throne coated in ice, creating a jagged version of the ornate seat that it now encased. Most of the ground was covered in ice that stretched out from the throne itself, as if it, itself, was the source of the cold in this room. Sitting upon the throne, the visage of the Night King himself - more human than Jomei had expected, but large and heavily armored. Their eyes that same, icy blue as the flames of the sconces that lined the walls. Standing at their side, another squadron of skeletons, ready to lay down their reborn lives for their King.

The skeletons around her faded away as she approached the throne, a humming coursing through her body that seemed to push aside anything aside from the King in front of her. Nari barely registered Jomei behind her, barely considered that there were others in the room - her focus was only on the King, her awareness limited to her own movements and his.

The images of the town were gone, although the fury remained. She had been bottling it up for far, far too long. The anger at being stuck in this place, at being constantly worried about every move, about the actions she was taking. What she was becoming. What she may never be again. Jomei had only made her realise just what this game was doing to them.

"Jomei...hold them off. I'm going for him." Her words were spoken softly, but loud enough to carry towards the other player. As soon as she finished her sentence, she broke into a run. She brought the scythe around, beginning the wild arc that it danced around her body in preparation, building up the momentum and charging the sword art. Purple flames danced across the blade, as if begging to be let loose. Nari obliged, aiming for the King's face.

He could sense the rage growing within Nari just by the expression on her face before she even made her approach. "Nari." Jomei simply said in response. "Be careful. Switch out with me if you need to." Retrieving his weapon once more, he turned his attention from Nari and the King to the four skeletons, "I'll keep them off your back."

The faster I can take out these skeletons.. the faster I can help Nari.. He thought to himself as his feet carried him across the ice. Suddenly, the man shot forward as he activated his charge skill to give him the extra boost needed to close the distance. He could feel his feet beginning to lose their footing upon the ice, so using Charge in this environment may have been a bad idea. "Shit." he cursed to himself under his breath as he tried to right himself. A single moment arose where he could deal the most damage he could to the four skeletons, so as the man began to slip and fall to the floor, he would swipe his rapier through the air wildly. Shadows clung to the weapon as he readied it, shooting into two of the skeletons and wiping them out in a singular hit. The other two stumbled backwards, their jaws hanging open as they stand stunned from the ginger's single attack.

Jomei, on the other hand, found his feet slipping out from under him, and his upper body and cheek crashing into the cold ice. "I-I'm alright." he'd call out through a groan as his body skid to a stop. "Just need a minute."

As Nari's scythe cut into the Night King, flames licked up their armor and engulfed their shoulder. With a sneer, they would pat out the flames, the fire snuffing out with a single pat of their large palm. The angered expression would turn to a smirk as they retrieve their icy blade from beside their throne. It seemed to attract frost to the blade like a magnet, becoming even colder as it cut through the air and struck Nari. Immediately, the woman began to become encased in that same frost and ice, freezing them in place.

King's Rage lasts for two rounds.  When it ends all player hate values are reduced by 8 (to a minimum of 0.)
