Mari 1 Posted August 30 #1 Share Posted August 30 (edited) Quest Objective | Must travel to the Stygian River [1/3] After a blissful reprise where Mari had managed to fall asleep, enjoying a small nap the two made the long walk up to the 10th floor. Hand in hand, talking about their plans for dinner, the absolute ridiculous manner of the quest-line, their distaste for stairs. Mari was used to such things; Lancaster, not so much - his separation from the Laughing Coffin still proving difficult for him. "Yanno...." Mari said, pausing before they moved to the next floor. "If you need, I'll fund you so you can create more of those...." She'd roll her hand, "transportation methods." He already knew of her own - but that was beyond costly, and used only in dire circumstances. Mari needed to remain tight lipped about it till she had a chance to talk to Raidou. She fell silent, tallying in her head how much more she'd need to fight to fund that. Several days maybe? That should be enough time to allow her to create the funds for a network for the man to use. Separate from the hand. She squeezed his hand tighter, inwardly apologizing, after this she'd just need to work a little bit harder... a little bit longer. Just a little longer... "This floor...can have such a negative effect on your mental competence." Mari warned as she pushed the door to the 10th floor open. Mari flicked open her HUD, reading the notes of the floor aloud - "An oppressive malaise that can quickly sour into full blown depression. Some reports suggest that prolonged exposure can lead to dementia, or even outright insanity and the negative thoughts and emotions that pervade the entire floor relentlessly assault the minds and convictions of those who come to visit." She'd close her HUD and turn to Lancaster. "Yanno, this wasn't always apparent - maybe thats why I went..." She'd pause to point to her head, spinning a finger round and round - signalling how crazy she had been in her past. "Not the entirety of course. But it wouldn't help." Mari would step closer to him, wrapping an arm around his waist, leaning in to lean her head on his shoulder. "Welcome to the place I spent most of my life ." She'd gesture to the grim expanse. "Want the tour whilst we try to find this next creature?" Mari asked, handing him the etching so he could look over it. **GIVES LANCASTER THE FOLLOWING** Perfect T4 Potion 251574 | 'Guard' | Mit III Perfect T4 Potion 251573 | 'Guard' | Mit III <<Assist System Engaged: Lancaster>> Level: 34 Paragon: 13 True Tier: 14 Final EXP reward: 0% Consumed: Perfect T4 Potion 251579 | 'Guard' | Mit III {Sullivan's Cove} | Protein 2, ACC 2 [Feast - 251363]) {Lancaster} [2/6] Regretful Memories - Draught of the Pink PK'er (Gungir's - DMG 3 | MITI 1 [Crate - 245931]) {Mari} [2/6] PT: REMOVED: Charge: 10 SP Rending Familiar: 10 SP Squabble UP: 10 SP Hiding rank 5- 30SP Taken: Biting 20 SP | Effect: Player gains +2 Base Damage Letting Cost: 20 SP| Passive Effect: Increase Activation Range for all DoT effects by 1 (I.E. Lancaster 1 Posted September 4 #2 Share Posted September 4 A small reprieve, a bit of shut eye to relax the chaotic schedule the pair had held the last few days. Albeit Lancaster's not nearly as demanding as Mari's yet even still it wasn't easy. Something as simple as a nap and a conversation not racked by tension and drama had worked wonders in thinning out stress that had been building for the man for some time. Fingers intertwined with Mari's, finding the warmth welcoming as they'd travel through the sights and sounds of multiple floors. Organic yet long, the red head couldn't help but draw that normally this would have been frustrating but Mari made it bearable at worst, but he was actually enjoying the trek. Like a hiking trip, all this walking was actually inviting. Probably simply because he got to spend time with his beloved, and admire her expertise. It was clear that she'd done this for a long while, how she seemed to have her bearings and knew where they were time and time again. The 10th floor, Yomi. An absent and empty settlement that had always been ignored. It had little of worth, and even less to pilfer. "Might be worth the investment, don't think I could stomach all this travel alone. With you, is enjoyable." He'd mutter plainly, his expression twisting into a smile. "As to the effects of the floor, I am aware. Is where recruits for the guild are sent to 'break them in'." Lancaster would provide a snapshot to his own knowledge of the floor with added emphasis, although he'd hardly visited it personally. This was Genma's domain. "Is best we keep our time here to a minimum, it will loosen screws we didn't know we had." Looking toward Mari, watching her wiggle her finger in a small circle toward her noggin. "Yet, you've outgrown it." Pecking her forehead, he'd round a strand of dangling hair around her right ear. "Isn't too bad, a tour sounds good. Like to find some of that brilliance of yours mi amore. If you're willing to share?" Mari 1 Posted September 4 Author #3 Share Posted September 4 (edited) Quest Objective | Must travel to the Stygian River [3/3] Might be worth the investment. It was all the motivation Mari needed to do just that, "Then I shall make it happen. You should see the col I've amassed lately!" Mari said to him as she'd turn to offer him a kiss on the underside of his chin. Her eyes fluttered close as she took a moment to breathe deep, enjoying the mix of earthy and chemical scents that came from him. The scent of gasoline and acetone a little stronger than usual. Mari couldn't help but laugh into her kiss before pulling away. "I can tell you've been working, Vincent." She softly said, hints of amusement and delight in her tone. "Is good you're keeping busy whilst I'm..." She'd turn her cerulean gaze over the wasteland before her. "stockpiling supplies." In truth, Mari had been incredibly concerned, having left him more or less alone the last few days before their wedding. Waking up before the sun rose - and going to bed long after it had set. This trip was still tiring, and yet - it didn't seem to exhaust Mari. She was finally spending time with Lancaster - time where they weren't fighting for their lives. Where they weren't on edge, always looking over their shoulders. It was a relief. It cemented their relationship. It actually felt like she could just enjoy Lancaster for all that he is. "I can't wait for you to show me what you've done." Mari thought aloud to herself as she pulled him along, closer toward the Stygian river. Mari would listen to Lancaster and with a small nod, she'd point to a location, a little beyond the horizon - "Somewhere near there, no?" Mari asked. "I've seen many a player, both orange and green alike make the trip to that particular set of caverns. Most think they are alone but..." Mari tapped her temple. "Night Vision. I see what others do not. I am perhaps more familiar with this floor than your previous company, even." Mari would squeeze his hand tighter. "Sometimes, I would want to follow to see just what they were doing, but curiosity like that is a fools errand. One time A broad shouldered fellow saw me nearby, but we each left each other well enough alone - Not my business. I too thought about bringing people here, leave them to see how long it'd take. But...I'm not one to experiment with peoples minds, anymore." Mari said with finality. The two walked hand in hand toward the river, every so often Mari would pull Lancaster into a different direction - pointing out the cave she met Atan, her 'associate' who helped her with her workshop, making a point to tell him about the bacteria in the stagnant pond there. nagleria fowleri - And how she wanted to experiment with it, but held back. Concerned what her brother would think. Mari told him about the echo flowers around the void - and even explained in detail how she had thrown herself in it at one point. The effects it had on her. How even to this day, every so often she'd hear the faintest of whispers. Of all the players in all of Aincrad, Mari was probably one of the few who had managed to build up a small tolerance to the floor. Not completely immune to its effects, but she'd last longer than most. "After this quest, we can stop by my store, if you like?" Mari offered. "It sits on the outskirts of Yomi. But - ah..." Mari paused, her nose wrinkling, the acrid smell of iron and the hiss of acid in the air. "We're close." Edited September 4 by Mari
Lancaster 1 Posted September 4 #4 Share Posted September 4 A glance toward his beloved with a cocky smile, "Can smell it, right? Is a bit hard to get off without a bit of flame." The man sparked his thumb to a small bloom that danced on the tip of it. "I have and will manage mi fiamma. Best to keep busy, no?" Lancaster slides along the river of the damned, taking in the stench of sulfur and decay. Not entirely unpleasant but not something he'd etch to a candle. "In time, is not done... yet. Your procurements have been useful. Have anything I could need, and for that I thank you." Stealing glances at her from behind, still so stuck on her as the day they'd met. Admiring from afar and waiting for it when it was that much closer. Following her finger as he'd lean to use it like an iron sight, shutting an eye. "Hmm, you think?" He'd scan looking to his wife as her eyes would light up green. A tightening grip has him bewildered by her ingenuity. "You are probably right, we usually didn't spend too awful long here... and only a select few stick around. Bad blood, badder effects like you said." Following the winding river on ever bend, allowing Amari to be his guide. "I would... enjoy a visit, see where you began. Might prove interes..." A hiss of boiling water sends a spray breaking that sentence. "We're close." The man swallows and as if on Mari's command bones fire out from the red waves, gathering on the shore. Rolling toward each other they join in a writhing mass of void and bone. Forming misshapen masses of skeletal soldiers that hover and begin to brandish weapons ripped from within its shadow like form. Lancaster chuckles once, flicking the cigarette out of his mouth to the side toward the river. "This... is not as imposing as I would believe. Allow me, mi amore." He gives a small bow to Mari, before a single step sends a spark of embers. Another sees the ground scorched black, and his shoulders sweep from left to right with his arms extended. A elemental like copy of him screams forward in a wall of flame, taking his shape and tearing through them like a hot knife through butter. What remains is charred and burnt bones still smoldering like wood in a campfire. "Color me disappointed." He remarks tapping his hands together sending embers with each clap before he dusts off his shoulder. Quest Objective | Must defeat an initial pack of 4 <<Stygian Warriors>> before engaging the boss. Mari 1 Posted 17 hours ago Author #5 Share Posted 17 hours ago (edited) "I don't mind the smell...it just reminds me of you, my home." Such a cheesy line, but Mari couldn't help it. She was with her husband on some kind of weird honeymoon where the two would relax, and go through some inane quest line. A hand reached out to brush crimson strands of hair from his eyes. She adored him. "Do you know..." She breathed quietly. "That your right eye, has two tiny flecks of green in it?" Mari leaned forward to kiss his eye, then him. Her lips lingering. Mari pulled away, and Lancaster thanked her for her aid. This is when Mari's smile grew wider. "Oh...Oh...my beloved." She started to lay it on thick. "Mia Fiamma, my flame, mi anima gemella..." Her smile grew wider. "After all this...I have a surprise for you, one I have been working quite hard on. But - you must wait." She turned to the river with a disapproving scowl. Seeing Stygian warriors jump out and attack. "Trash..." She muttered, crossing her arms over her chest. She knew this was par for the course...on the quest but it still bothered her that things like this kept interrupting their little honeymoon. Lancaster made quick work of them. Offering Mari a small bow as she gave him a round of applause. "You always impress me!" She said. Seeing a literal visage of him doused in flame sweep through the enemies as though they were nothing. "Stunning, you're absolutely stunning!" Two steps broached the gap between them, and Mari began to dust him off. "My sweet Vincent. What would I do without you, hmm?" A kiss on the underside of his chin. "Seems like I need to offer you another reward - pray tell....your favourite drink?" By now, he must have figured out what she was doing, learning everything she possibly could about him. Before he could answer, there was a deafening screech as the Leech Lich appeared from the crumbled and ashy carcasses of its fallen bretheren, and with a rise of a skeletal hand it summoned another pile of them "I'll take care of the smaller guys, you take care of the big cheese?" They'd make quick work of this. Her halberd sprang to life in her hand, erupting in flames - she dragged its steel across the ground creating a wall of fire between her and their enemies. All for show...she stepped through it and with a single, almost lazy strike all four Stygian warriors crumbled to the floor. "You're up, mia fiamma." Lancaster 1 Posted 16 hours ago #6 Share Posted 16 hours ago Standard Recovery +4 EN A schmooze and a rake of her hand through his hair, the man was on top of cloud 9. "Is not something I noticed, Perhaps I dig a bit deeper into a mirror." The man quipped as his wife began to pepper him with physical affections, and he couldn't be happier to oblige them. Love even in the throes of combat, as if all of these annoyance proved to be just that. Neither player seemed bothered by them, or to be paying them any real attention. "A surprise?" Lancaster's head bloomed into all manner of thoughts, milling about at possibilities unending. The last time the woman had offered a surprise it took the shape of a huge alteration to her home and his own tinkering dungeon, that promptly led to a wedding. A taste of satisfaction and intrigue had him dazed into a stupor, one that was clearly too much for him to handle. As the boss formed out of ragged piles of bone and mischief, a loose amalgamation of what was laid in pieces the consuming tyrant doesn't even notice. Instead he spends the better few seconds standing there with his head in the clouds watching his wife dance around and spray flames across the stone flash vaporizing puddles of red muck. Mari 1 Posted 16 hours ago Author #7 Share Posted 16 hours ago (edited) Standard Recovery +4 EN "Honey...." It was almost chastising, the way she said it. "You must be patient with these sort of things..." Although if anything, Mari was the one that needed to be patient, seeing how his eyes lit up made her want to spill all her secrets to him then and there. Wanted to whisk him away from this stupid meaningless quest and onto greater things. Mari turned on her heel, giving her husband a cheeky grin, going as far as to stick her tongue out at him from between her teeth as her hands lit up in flames. "Colour me..." A pause as one hand ripped through a Stygian warriors skull. The hand which held the blade, crushed the second warrior. "Disappointed." Mari said, as she tore through the skeletal warriors with ease- before she turned on her heel, following through on the strike against the Stygian Warrior to tear a burning gash into the Leech Lich. Lancaster 1 Posted 16 hours ago #8 Share Posted 16 hours ago Standard Recovery +4 EN, Removed Stygian Warriors due to AOE-II via Mari on prior post, dealt 1 damage via successful attack to Mari, BRN damage and duration corrected as well as successful Leech from boss (1 / 3 = 1 {rounded up}), Hatred moved to mobs for easy reading. Mari's goading would probably be irritating to some, but for the man it just reminded him of the bedroom. A reciprocated smile with a shake of his head "You got me mi amore, head in the clouds lost track of the current." A skeletal shit show formed up of all manner of organic garbage wasn't exactly threatening, and Lancaster had dispatched things far more menacing. Mainly people, but the occasional colossus or guardian here or there. Hell some guards could give monsters found on the floor they were on an easy run for their money, given they weren't designed to fight fair. Watching on as the woman spun circles around it, emasculating it and carving it apart as it kept trying to face her. He catches the lick of something, some trigger and the lightest touch of her flame sputtering to life on its shoulder. "Perfect, mind if I strike a match?" He ponders curiously, raising his hand and a sharp sound reverberates across the field: *Snap* his fingers ring and with it the thing detonates in a column of flame, Mari's and yet his. A passion unbound and made alight by them both. The creature howls and screams in agony beneath its nexus, smoking and its pain pushed to a breaking point. "Still standing, mi amico? Good." The man offers in a snide bite with a sinister smile and dismissal. The ring on his hand glows bright. "For how long?" Mari 1 Posted 15 hours ago Author #9 Share Posted 15 hours ago (edited) Standard Recovery +4 EN, The Leech Lich gurgled, faltering from the weight of their combined attacks and with a shaky hand summoned another two skeletons. "Aww, look." Mari gushed as she swung her weapon, completely decimating them the second they pulled their skeletal feet from the ground. "It thinks its efforts make a difference." Mari snapped her fingers, two, three , then four times - each time she did flames would ripple up her hand, her arms and over her shoulders, creating a cape of flames that cascaded around her. "Little help?" Mari asked, stepping over a skeletal corpse to steal a kiss from her husband, and with her stolen kiss, Mari stole the flames upon his own shoulders, adding them to her blaze. Mari turned to the lich and stepped toward it. Sizzling the rocky ground with each and every footstep. "It's over." A burst of flames sent the stygian warriors into ash - and as the Leech Lich towered down on her a single thrust at the apex of its chest sent it into an explosion. Its Jaw unhinging and clattering to her feet before Mari stomped on it. A pang of....something hit Mari in the chest as she watched the last of the embers float up into the sky. Maybe it was the malaise of the floor affecting her, or maybe it was the disappointment of a battle, far too short lived. "I...can do so much here..." She quietly said. She was strong here, was able to create such insane chemical concoctions, explosions, and the like. Not only that she was able to survive them. Compared to outside... Compared to the real world... Compared to Amari. Out there, she was nothing. Would he even truly want to be with her out there? "Hey...Vincent...." her voice quiet, contemplative as her back faced him. There was a pause, as though Mari was going to say something, but a slight shake of her head stopped her. Mari simply smiled as she turned to face her husband. "You ready to see my store before we move to the next quest?"
