Bael 1 Posted 1 hour ago Author #21 Share Posted 1 hour ago Bael shifted slightly beneath her, feeling the weight of her presence more than seeing it. He remained still, letting the moment stretch, his grip firm but careful, not aggressive. He could feel her energy, measured, bold, curious, and it piqued that quiet edge of interest he kept buried under his usual calm. "You're quick to throw yourself into the challenge," he murmured, voice low and steady. "Not many would meet this.. testing with such poise. Most would hesitate." His words weren’t a compliment, not quite; they were an observation, calm and deliberate, carrying the weight of someone who had seen far too much and judged far too little. His hands, though steady, adjusted subtly to maintain balance, not to press, not to push, just to anchor himself against the shift she made. A part of him noted her confidence, how she didn't flinch, how she didn't yield under his presence. That was.. uncommon. It was dangerous in its own way, and yet, somehow, it drew a careful respect from him. "I've seen what this place does to people," he continued, voice quiet but deliberate. "It wears them down. Breaks them. Changes them." He let that linger, watching her reactions, not daring to break the stillness around them. "And yet, here you are. Not.. crumbling. Not hiding. Not afraid." He allowed a faint, dry chuckle to escape, more from recognition than amusement. "Most would call that foolish, maybe even reckless. Perhaps it is." His gaze didn't meet hers directly, instead tracing a line along the floor of the spring, the water rippling slightly from their movements. "But I've learned to read what matters. Fear, when it exists.. it tells me what to expect. You.. you don't let it show. That says something." Bael's tone shifted ever so slightly, almost teasing, almost a thread of quiet warning. "Tomorrow.. as you said. This.. will end, and we'll return to the world as it was. Fields, mobs, the usual chaos. And yet.. today, this is yours, for the moment. You handle it well." He leaned back slightly, enough to give her space without pulling away. The water hissed gently around them, steam curling between their figures. "I know what I want, and I act when it matters. Right now, it matters to observe. To understand. To note strength where it exists." A pause, just long enough for the quiet to stretch between them. "Tomorrow may be like you said.. like it never happened. But today.." His voice dropped even further, almost a whisper. "..today, we test limits. See what can be borne. What can be handled." He didn't press closer, didn't flinch at her daring. Instead, he simply held steady, letting the tension, the heat, the testing, hang unspoken between them. Quiet, controlled, precise, a measure of both patience and calculation. The room, the spring, the world outside.. it could wait. Here, now, the moment was theirs. * * * WC:
