SP-F11 "No Time To Celebrate" -Scouting Floor 11

Recommended Posts

Mari didn’t want to stay for congratulatory celebrations. To her, there was nothing to celebrate. They had cleared the 10th floor boss, and she had managed to gain an item from it, but what did that mean? What was the point in celebrating? They were officially a tenth of the way through this hellish nightmare of a game. If they continued at this pace, they wouldn’t even reach the 50th floor before people started unplugging the machines on the outside world.

Mari didn’t care about everyone else, they could die for all she cared; Mari didn’t exactly care about her own life either, she was strong and could hold her own – so the fear of dying was non existant. Mari had various motives for wanting to clear the floors quickly.

On the one hand, a part of her wanted to ge to the 99th floor and just turn around and kill everyone she possibly could before being struck down herself. Why should they all get to live, when Evelyn and Alkor had to die? When others like Sugar and Spice, fell so readily at her hands, this game was unfair – and Mari was bitter. Hateful toward those who were still living.

Then; on the other hand – Mari wanted to get out. She wanted to find her daughter and give her the proper funeral that she deserved, Thom too.

It was a difficult predicament, but regardless – there was no point in celebrating.

With one final sigh, Mari pushed open the door from the boss room, and stepped out onto the 11th floor.

As Mari stepped out of the darkness of the 10th floor and into the bright lit skies of the 11th she strained her eyes, shielding them from the sun. “Ugh…” She assumed that the next floor wouldn’t be an underground one, but to be met with such blinding light? It was bothersome. Mari took a few blind steps forward, as she waited for her eyes to adjust.

As her vision became less ‘blinding white’ and more focused she noticed a large town nearby; similar to an old European city. So that was the main settlement on this floor. Mari’s eyes furrowed as she tried to focus on the smaller details, which was near impossible from so far – it looked as though the streets were bathed in colourful lights, where the suns rays shone through a large cathedrals stained glass windows.  Surrounding the city, and it’s safe walls was a forest – it looked like it branched out far and wide; Mari sighed.

There was a small cobblestone pathway that lead from the boss room through the small patch of forest that separated her from the town, Mari stepped down onto the path, and began to follow it.

The forest on the 11th floor smelt completely different to the Forest of Wavering Mist that Mari was all too accustomed to on the 3rd floor. This forest smelt fresh...clean, new, whereas the forest on the 3rd floor smelt of rotting wood, the air thick with fog, it was dense and dark. Mari would be lying if she said it wasn't a welcomed change. Although the brightness was something she was still getting used to. Mari did, after all - spend most of her time in her dark Alchemic Tent on the 10th floor.

Her blue eyes fluttered to the ground, watching as her feet crunched against the cobblestone path, strewn with various sticks and twigs; exploring this floor seemed much more peaceful than her exploration of the 10th floor. Of course, looks were always deceiving.

The town wasn't far now, not that Mari could enter it; still she had planned to peek inside of it; she was curious and wanted to get a closer look at the stained glass patterned lights strewn across the city floor; alas; as the large walls of the town came into view she heard a rustle. Mari pulled out her dagger; it would take some getting used to - using a new dagger, and this was the perfect time to practise

A large black ant emerged from a bush by the forest path, it turned its head toward Mari. The ant clicked its pincers; and twisted its head in an attempt to bite Mari, but she managed to manevour out the way, just in time- and instead drove her new dagger across the side of its head. It's HP dipped into the yellow zone.

Mari ducked as the ant again, attempted to strike at her, this time aiming for her left arm. Mari rolled under the beast, and pressed her dagger into the bottom of its thorax. "Urghh.." Mari heaved her body against the ant, lifting it up off the ground. The Ant Scout landed on its back, and its six legs dangled helplessly in the air as it tried to right itself up again.

Finally; the ant's HP went into the red. Mari sighed. This was such a bother. She wouldn't even get any drops from the monster as even  now, on the 11th floor the mob simply wasn't strong enough for her to reap any such rewards. Mari was also very low on materials, and would need to stock up asap - Mari pondered keeping an eye out for materials whilst scouting the 11th floor.

The ant struggled to right itself back up again, it rocked its body back and forth. Tiny legs wildly thrashing back and forth, Mari stepped in closer. Slowly circling the ant, inspecting it. It looked like an ordinary black ant, just thousands of times bigger. In height, it reached her waist, and its antenna ended in sharp points, Mari assumed that it was to either make the ant look more dangerous; or it was some sort of modification to actually make the insect more dangerous.

Still, it hadn't landed a scratch on Mari, and Mari...was just about to destroy it. Mari thrust her dagger into it's skull, it gave out a high pitched screech before disappearing. Leaving nothing behind. "Well that was a waste of time..." Mari muttered.

There was another noise from the bushes that lined the path, and another two Ant scouts had appeared, Mari sighed heavily - it appeared that with its final cry - the ant had called for help. Mari did not appreciate the stall in her exploration of the floor. She wanted nothing more than to hurry up; look around and find the floor boss - this time, she wouldn't bother holding a meeting however- information was a valuable asset, and Mari was planning on finding the boss first - and selling the information to those who asked.

Regardless; now was not the time for that - the first Ant attempted to strike her - it missed and Mari retaliated with a hefty blow to its side; her new dagger, the Kusanagi had inflicted the beast with bleed damage - Mari gave a small smirk. It may not have enough base damage as her previous dagger, but in the long run - it was much more effective.

It was time for the second ant to attack now; It's beady black eyes seemed to assess Mari carefully, as it scurried back and forth in front of her; still - its efforts were in vain, as it too charged Mari, head pointed down. Its antennae, sharp and pointed directly at Mari. The pink Pker swiftly side stepped it, and ran her dagger into its side; it too succumbed to the bleed effect. A red gash flashing across its thorax.

Mari tossed the dagger into the air before catching it, almost taunting the mindless mobs. "My, this is easier than I first thought."
She mused.

Mari ducked as one of the ant scouts tried to head butt her with its razor shark antennae. One just managed to scrape past her arm. Mari grit her teeth. "UGh...really...?" The HP she lost was minute; so small that it wouldn't matter. She'd easily be able to recover from it after this battle. She lifted her leg up, kicking it out of the way, before lunging at the ant's head with her dagger. One final blow and it would be dead.  Then, she could focus on the other - then finish exploring the floor. She wanted to hurry up and find the boss room, before others caught up. Rare information was so much more valuable.

The other ant charged at Mari, and landed a successful blow. Its pincer lodged into her leg, dragging her to the dirtied cobblestone path. "You mother f**ker!" Mari cried out. Wrestling her bleeding leg free she kicked it square in the face. Screw finishing off the other one first. This little b*stard had a death warrant. Mari rolled forward, ducking out of the way of another attack, and rammed her dagger upward into the bottom of its skull. The second Ant Scout faltered, rearing back as it suffered bleed damage.

The first ant had almost avoided Mari's attack, She tried to strike and it ducked under her blade. Luckily Mari was able to compensate, and bought her dagger back upward, its blade landing straight into its skull. It tried to call for help but she twisted the dagger, and with a sickening squelch the scream was silenced. "Ain't no one gonna help you now." Mari muttered.

The second ant died; bled out - with a feeble and gargled cry it fell flat to the floor. There was no chance it could call for back up this time.

Mari gave a heavy sigh, as she ran her hand through her hair. Giving a yawn. She was growing tired of battles. It seemed that she had just finished the 11th floor boss, and was now thrown straight back into the fray - without a moments reprise. This was tiring. Still. Mari pressed on. Her  feet crunching on the cobblestoned path that lead toward the town. She knew she would not be able to enter the town, but she could at least peer through the gates; find out its name and what type of structures it had, before moving on.

Mari arrived at the entrance to the town; its walls towered high - but the buildings and cathedral - even higher. There was a large gateway leading into the town; and there was no sign of a guardian - but that did not mean Mari was game enough to attempt to enter the town. She had tried that once with the 10th floor - and nearly died as the dragon picked her up, its teeth digging into her flesh, Mari shook her head at the thought.

Nope.

Not again.

Instead she bought her attention back toward the town. It looked as though the floors were paved in rainbow lights, the sun shining through the cathedral. she was right. "Mm...." She had to admit, it was a beautiful sight, but she was too bitter with the game to give it too much thought.

Suddenly a loud chime started; as the bells at the cathedral began to move. What was even curiouser - was what happened next. There was a small rumble, not enough to shake Mari's stance, but enough of a rumble to notice. Was it an Earthquake? Was it caused by the bells? No that couldn't be it...

The sun shifted, almost as though it were a clock. "What the f**k?" Mari muttered, glancing around as the lights on the floor shifted - what was even curiouser is that some seemed to land on certain sections of the forest. Mari was not a good climber,  but she knew she had to get a better look at what was going on.

Mari glanced around, and turned away from the European styled city - to climb the nearest tree. It was a bit of a struggle, but thanks to her various skills in Acrobatics climbing the tree was much easier than she first assumed. If she tried such a stunt in the real world Mari was almost positive that she would fail.
Mari had climbed high enough to be able to see over the town walls. The city was tightly packed with two storey structures, with little to no room between. It reminded Mari of Italy...or Greece. Her eyes followed the lights that shone over varies areas of the floor, one in particular caught her interest. Past the town were a variety of caverns, right in front of the tower to get to the next floor. Beyond those caves it almost looked like a maze - but it was too far to tell.

Going into the wrong one would probably stunt her scouting by a long, long time. She didn't want that, however - there was a green light cast on the furthest left entrance. Mari figured that could be a clue, and it was as good a chance as any to pick that one.

Mari climbed down the tree, landing on the dirt with a small 'thud' "well then..." Mari said to herself as she dusted off her palms. "I know exactly where I am going to chance going to.." She muttered to herself as she started down the path around the city.

Making sure she wasn't going to loose her bearings Mari began to head down the path toward the cave. Sure there were other settlements dotted around the floor, but she didn't have the time to go sight seein this itm

As Mari delved deeper into the forest it got darker the leaves blocking out the suns rays. There was a rustle, and Mari readied herself, low and behold - another big, black ant showed itself. It clicked its pincers; antenaee flailing around in the air. Mari wasn't going to let it get the first hit in, she charged, landing a powerful blow on the ant. Her dagger - once again inflicting bleed damage.

"Useful..." She muttered, glancing down at the blood red blade. Originally she was worried about loosing that one point of damage, but the bleed more than made up for it. The ant tried to attack her whilst she was distracted, but she simply ducked out of the way.

The ant tried to attack Mari again; but she was too quick- deftly avoiding the attack by jumping up on the ants head, landing on its thorax, as though she was riding some sort of horse or bull. "Ha. F**ker!" She cried. As she drove the dagger into the sinues in its back. The Ant gave a startled cry, and started thrashing back and forth, as it attempted to throw her off. Her dagger was lodged deep into its flesh, and she wasn't going to be moving anywhere any time soon.

The ant lifted its head up into the air - and started to screech. Calling for help, Mari was wise to their ways - and pulled her dagger out of its sinues and instead rammed it into the top of the ants skull. It's screeches quickly subsided into a low gurgle. The ant fell flat onto the ground before bursting into an array of polygons. Mari stood up and dusted herself off. Continuing on her silent, solitary journey to find the boss room. There was a clearing up ahead - and Mari could see the soft light shining down on the cavern entrance.

"Good..."

Mari passed the clearing, and stopped in her tracks. Players? There were two people standing close together, as though they were in some sort of deep conversation. Mari didn't move from her spot, still holding the dagger tightly in her hand. Ready to strike if the need arose.

"Yo?"

She called out, the two 'players' turned to her and Mari reeled back. Their faces were covered in boils and sores - their eyes completely white. Definitely not players. "Well then..." She muttered as she dashed forward - bringing the dagger into the right shoulder of the first one, noting the name of the mobs. 'Plague Victim' Mari shivered at the thought - as she pushed the mob off of her before it could do her any real damage.
