[F2-SP] Symphony <<Let There Be Light>>

Recommended Posts

Symphony was walking through a peaceful village on the second floor with her raven familiar Cloak when a woman rushed up to her, crying and hysterical. "Is everything okay, ma'am?" she asked, a little surprised and worried.

"Please help me!" the woman cried. "My little boy, Gerard, was playing with his friend in a cave when something attacked them. His friend ran, but my son didn't follow. Please! Please! You're an adventurer. I need you to go in there and find him!"

A bit overwhelmed by the woman, Symphony tried to calm her. "Alright, I will go and find your son and bring him back to you safely. Just stay here and tell everyone in the village to stay inside in case anything escapes that cave."

The woman rushed back to the heart of the village to let everyone know what Symphony had just said. Meanwhile, Symphony head out for the cave in the general direction that the woman had pointed to. "Well, seems like we have ourselves another adventure, Cloak." Cloak cawed in response.

When she got close to the cave, she realized that she had forgotten a torch or any source of light. Shoot, I hope the place isn't too dark, she thought. But it was just her luck. As she stepped through the entrance, she was greeted with a dark passageway with the only source of light being cracks in the cave ceiling above her. Cloak stayed on her shoulder until they got to a large room/area of the cave. She whistled for him to stay close and let him fly around the room, checking for anything. Suddenly, he let out a caw and came back to her, landing on her outstretched arm. "What is it, Cloak?" she asked. He cawed again in warned.

Then, a giant bat came out from the darkness in front of them and screeched painfully loud. The stalactites above them shook and a few came crashing down. "Gah!" Symphony yelled as she dodged a falling piece of the ceiling. Cloak flew around the falling masses, avoiding them with ease.

Symphony tried to perform a sword art on the giant bat before he brought the cave down on all of them. She charged her blade and tried to aim, but with the cloak of darkness around them, she aimed for the wrong area. It didn't help that the bat had black fur that blended in with the darkness around it. The only thing that stuck out about the beast was its glowing green eyes. Creepy, Symphony thought, as she flawlessly dodged when the bat lunged to bite her. She would need to be careful when fighting in this place. Holes in the ground or hidden enemies could be hiding in the darkness around them. It's no wonder that the little boy got lost in here. He probably couldn't see anything.

The giant bat flapped its wings, and strong bursts of air pushed her backwards about a foot or so. She braced herself against the wind until it was over. Great. And now I have giant gusts of wind to worry about. Just lovely.

The bat screeched again and a stalactite managed to fall and hit it on the head. This could be her chance. Symphony charged up her dagger for her sword art and charged the beast, dashing around it and around the falling debris and stabbing the animal in both sides. The beast screamed and flapped its wings angrily, managing to catch Symphony off guard. She was hit by one of the wings and dashed across the room, hitting a wall on the opposite side. "Gah!" she cried as she clutched her side. It wasn't too strong of a monster yet, but it was the strongest type that she had felt so far in her adventures. Cloak soared down and landed beside her. He nuzzled her hand to make sure she was okay. "I'm alright, friend. Just not used to a tough beast like this." She laughed. "Now let's get back to the fighting." She got up quickly with her blade drawn.

Symphony took note of the bat's powerful wings and to avoid them. Alright, let's try this again, she thought to herself. This time she would try to avoid getting hit if possible. She charged up her blade again. It had a purplish glow to it in the dark cave, though it didn't give off much light. Then she dashed around the enemy once more, stabbing and slashing at its wings. The giant bat let out a screech of pain and brought its wings inward towards its sides protectively. The wings were bloody and now a bit ragged from the wounds. The bat would not be able to fly again with these injuries. This only further infuriated the beast, who screamed louder, making the whole cave shake around it. Symphony braced herself against a cave wall in order to dodge most of the falling ceiling. I have to finish this quick, she thought to herself.

She braced herself against the wall of the cave and waited for the bat to finish its haphazard flapping. Once she felt the coast was clear, she readied her blade and charged it for her sword art. Once again, she dashed around the giant bat, cutting both of its short legs and making it fall to the ground. It used its screech of pain to slam her back into a wall. She knocked into it hard, the wind knocked out of her. "Ouch," she muttered as she rubbed her back and got back up. Cloak cawed with concern from above. "It's alright, Cloak. I'm fine," she said. She was glad that she had a partner who cared about her safety. It was a rather new feeling to her. She had few friends in this place and mostly adventured on her own. It was easier that way. Less people to depend on. Though she did miss the company of other humans.

Now that the bat was down due to its leg injuries, Symphony could take her time with planning her next attack. Cloak cawed and made a motion towards the back of the bat. Symphony whistled to let him know she saw. That must be his weak point, she thought while readying her blade. She braced herself and used her sword art, dashing around the enemy and digging her dagger twice into the upper and lower back of the beast. The giant bat let out an ear-splitting screech and wriggled about on the floor in pain. Symphony dodged out of the way just in time as the bat began biting and thrashing blindly for a target in its pain stricken state. "Cloak, get out of the way," she called as the beast began to throw its wings high in the air. Cloak flew over and hovered above Symphony where it was safe.

All of a sudden, the giant bat lunged at Symphony and grabbed her with one of the claws on its right wing, hooking the claw in between her leather armor and her back. It flung her around and threw her far across the cave where she landed on the hard earth and rolled for a short distance. "Gah..." she moaned as she slowly got up and rubbed her back. Sore as ever now. Stupid beast, she thought to herself. Well at least the thing was weakening now. It only had two health. If she could just land one blow, then all of this would be over. She straightened her back and got up, brushing herself off. Cloak flew over to check on her, and she whistled to let him know that she was okay. Certain that his partner was fine, Cloak flew back over to the giant bat to keep track of its movements in case it tried to attack again.

The giant bat let out another screech. Cloak let out a warning caw as well, but the bat was surprisingly fast for its large size. It grabbed Symphony in its teeth and thrashed her around. It would not let go no matter how much Symphony struggled within its jaws. Fearing the thing would eat her, Symphony looked for any weak points to attack. She had just enough wiggle room to get her right arm back inside the beasts mouth. With all the force that she could muster, she shoved her dagger through the top of the mouth of the giant bat and into its brain. The monster let out one final scream of pain and fell to the floor with Symphony tumbling out of its jaws. Cloak immediately flew over and landed to check on his partner. "I'm fine, Cloak," she said while coughing. "My armor will heal me over time, no need to worry." Luckily for her, the attack had looked more painful and dangerous than it actually was thanks to her protective armor.

Symphony looked over at where the bat had laid before it died. She knew that the loot parameters were too low for her to actually gain anything from the thing's death, but she always checked out of habit just to make sure. She whistled to Cloak, who flew and perched on her shoulder. "I hope the boy wasn't in here, or he may have been hit by the falling rocks. Just to make sure, do a canvas of the area and let me know if you see anything," she said while helping launch Cloak into the air. The raven circled while she slowly searched the area around her for any human bodies or dropped items. "Gerard!" she yelled out while searching. Hopefully, the boy would not be too afraid to respond. Or hopefully no enemies would hear his reply and go after him. Hm, maybe he is not safe enough to answer, she thought after several minutes had gone by and she had gotten no response. Or he could be unconscious... So many things could have happened, but she could only keep hoping for the best: that he was safe and close by.

From across the room, she heard a caw from Cloak. She raced over and found the raven perched on top of a fallen rock with a small toy soldier in its beak. She reached out, and Cloak dropped the item in her hand. Must be a toy of the boy's. He could be close by, she thought. She began to look around to see if there were any more clues. Then, she spotted another entrance that appeared to lead to another smaller cave or area. She listened and didn't hear anyone else, but she decided to follow the other path since it was her only other lead. As she entered an adjacent cave, she looked around and saw glowing clusters on the ceiling. "Look, Cloak. Those are glowing bacteria from bat poop!" she said excitedly. It was a natural phenomena that amused her. And the masses were small enough that it appeared the poop only came from harmless, small bats. Thank goodness. That could mean that the room was safe, but she could not be too sure.

Across the room, Symphony saw a glowing type of indoor waterfall flowing into a pool that then drained into an underground river beneath the floor of the cave. She carefully walked over to it, watching out for enemies that may jump out at any moment. Once close to the edge of the pool, she looked down into it to make sure that the boy had not fallen in and accidentally drowned. Nope. No boy to be found. Good, Symphony thought. Thankfully, the boy is smart enough not to have drowned in a shallow pool. That would not have been a fun thing to explain to the poor boy's mother at all.

Cloak flew to the top of the indoor waterfall and perched on the rocks by the waterfall's ledge. He began to bathe himself in the splashing water droplets. "Now, don't relax too quickly, Cloak. There still could be enemies nearby."

Symphony motioned for Cloak to stay quiet and then snuck over to the corner. She thought she had heard faint breathing from the area. Could it be the young boy? Maybe he had fallen asleep in the cave. However, as she got closer, Symphony could make out a giant figure. It seemed as though she had crept upon a sleeping giant bat! Immediately, she fell silent and crouched even lower to the ground. She slowly and quietly drew out her dagger and charged it quickly. She was going to attack the sleeping beast first so that it would have less of a chance of attacking her first. She raised her blade and used a sword art to slash fiercely across the beast's chest and back. Then she leaped away and whistled for Cloak to take a position in the air to help watch for any hidden enemies.

The giant bat reared its nasty head and screamed in pain and frustration, mad that it had been woken from its slumber in such a way.

Symphony cautiously paced around the giant bat as it shook itself awake and looked around. The beast was nearly blind and relied on its hearing to identify where its enemies were. As Cloak flapped over to another rocky perch in the cave, the bat tilted its head and tilted its ears to follow the bird. It screeched and began to march over to where Cloak flew. Symphony had to think fast to protect her familiar and friend. She looked around the area at her feet and saw some loose rocks. After picking one up, she launched it on the far side of the cave away from Cloak. The giant beast screeched again and began to crawl towards the noise on all fours. It sniffed around the area, and after realizing that no one was in the area, it began to sniff and listen again for any movement and living beings.

Symphony tried to move as quietly as she could towards the giant bat. She knew that if it kept searching, it may accidentally happen on the small boy if he was trapped or hiding somewhere in this cave. She motioned for Cloak to be ready on her command. Creeping very slowly and quietly, she got into a position about 10 feet away from the beast. A short distance, but needed for her next move. Then she flicked the fingers on her right hand forward in a motion for Cloak to dive and distract the enemy. The bat heard the wings and looked up blindly to try and detect where the sound was coming from. It lashed out blindly at the bird and missed. While the giant bat was distracted, Symphony quickly charged her blade and slashed the chest of the beast, leaving a giant X across the front of it. Then she whistled for Cloak to fall back, and she dodged behind a giant rock to hide from the beast.

As soon as Symphony had taken cover, the giant bat let out a giant screech of pain and debris began to fall from the ceiling of the cave once more. "Gah!" Symphony shouted as she dodged out of the way of falling boulders. She did her best to avoid most of the falling objects while Cloak dodged them in the air. Meanwhile, the bat spread its wings above its head. The large limbs were sturdy, and even the largest debris bounced off harmlessly. Symphony took note to write down such observations later when she had the time.

Once the majority of the debris had stopped falling and the cave had stopped shaking, the bat reared its head and screeched, trying to find the one responsible for the attack. Symphony stayed perfectly still so that the bat would have a harder time of finding her. She motioned for Cloak to stay hidden and silent as well.

Symphony attempted to creep up silently behind the giant bat once again. However, this time she dared to get even closer. As she was 8 feet behind the beast, she unfortunately tripped on a rock and fell in front of the beast. The bat reared up in front of her with both surprise and anger. It crashed down with both of its curved thumbs on the tips of its wings towards Symphony. She tried to roll out of the way of the attack before it was too late, but the beast managed to clip and stab her side through her armor. She winced and rolled farther away from the beast. Then she got up, charged her weapon and returned the favor. She used her sword art to slash open the wings of the beast, who instantly crumbled to the ground and curled its wings around it in pain and anguish at losing its ability to fly.

Symphony braced herself for another pain driven attack. The giant bat fell silent and slowly raised its head to look at the stranger in front of it. The room stood still. Until the bat screamed so loud that Symphony had to cover her ears. As distracted as she was by the noise, she was still prepared when the beast attacked. She dodged and attempted to use her sword art, except a falling rock struck her right shoulder as she was about to charge her blade, making the attempt useless. She winced as the rock hit her and moved her right shoulder to make sure it was okay. Luckily, the rock had only left a bruise. Nothing too serious. But now, more and more rocks were starting to fall from the ceiling. I hope that boy is still safe through all of this, she thought as she ran to take cover.

As she tried to dodge more of the boulders falling from the ceiling, Symphony came face to face with the giant bat. She tried to dodge the attack as best she could while also avoiding falling debris, but the giant bat hit its mark and threw her across the room with a thrust of its wings. She hit a back wall of the cave and got up slowly, rubbing her back as she did so. Alright, time to finish this, she thought to herself as she stretched and cracked her back. The beast must have thought the same as it screeched and reared up in a show of dominance. Symphony just laughed at the display and played with her dagger by tossing it around in one hand. If she landed this next hit just right, she may be able to end the battle once and for all. She took a deep breath and braced herself.

She charged up her blade and began to charge the giant bat once again. Come on, let this one hit! she thought. However, her clumsiness finally kicked in and she tripped and landed on her face right in front of the bat. "Oof.." The giant bat looked down at her for a second and screeched. Then it dug its claws into her leather armor and slashed across the woman's chest. "Gah!" Symphony screamed as she clutched her chest and rolled out of the way of any further attacks. Cloak flew down quickly to check on his partner. "I'm fine, Cloak," she assured him. "Get back to safety in the air." She feared more for his safety than her own. She knew she could take more hits than her smaller companion, and she needed him in the air to look out for the boy. If the young one decided to suddenly show his face in the middle of battle, things would get more dangerous.
