  1. Gestahl had decided to temporarily post-pone his quest for others in need of an assistance. His search so far had drawn no true results, and though he would never admit it, he had begun to feel some disappointment in himself. The request board seemed like a simple way to do some good, and he had just begun to leave to start his chosen quest when he spotted the man walking up to the board.

    "I'd suggest this one!"

Gestahl slapped his hand against the request he had been about to start himself, smiling his most friendly smile at the man next to the board. He had decided in an instant what he would do to help the man, who must have been looking for those in need, much like himself. Several awkward moments passed as the man stared at Gestahl, who quickly realized that his hand was blocking the request from view.

"Oh, heh. Sorry about that....." he moved his hand away from the board, allowing the man to quickly glance over it. As the man finished looking over the request, Gestahl extended his hand out to shake.

    "I'm Gestahl, by the way."

  2. Gestahl knew he should have felt angry at the flimsy blade he held in his hands. He had had created it, and he would most likely look back on it in disgust and hatred. But right now, this poorly made work of metal that broadcast it's creator's amateur skill was all Gestahl needed to feel pride in his future as a smith. He had given his all in the battle against the Dire Wolves, and had sacrificed what little currency he had in this quest to learn the art of smithing, becoming stronger physically and mentally in the pursuit of it. To think, he had come into this shop simply because it had a sign that said "Help Wanted."

He said his goodbyes to his new smith friend,(He never caught his name) and with the materials awarded for completing this quest in hand, began to walk back into city, once again looking for those in need of assistance. And perhaps, once in a while, he would stop by the shops of fellow craftsman and marvel at their works of beauty and skill, secretly holding the belief that one day, he too would be a master of the craft of creating to help others.

  3. It was just as he had feared. This was all Gestahl could think as he held up the bent blade. The metal he had chosen was apparently ill-suited for the temperatures he had subjected it to. The smith chimed in as kindly as he could.

"Hey lad, look at it this way, It's better than the first piece a scrap you made" Gestahl meekly smiled at him, and in an instant the smith knew what he wanted. After a bit of thinking, the smith decided to strike up a deal.

"Tell you what lad, them Wolves may be gone, but if yag ive me 3-no, 200 Col, I'll let ye try one more time same rules as before." Gestahl happily gave away the little money he had, and now ,with slight guidance from the smith, picked out some much tougher and more robust metals.

Slipping on the protective gear and starting up the smith's forge, Gestahl primed himself to finally finish this quest.

  4. The boar could only cry out as Gestahl's blade somewhat clumsily struck it on the back of the head, killing it instantly. The arrival of the award message startled Gestahl, who had only planned to quickly kill the boar for some experience. After taking a short breath to recover from the shock, Gestahl looked closer to see that he had been awarded 200 Col, the first award he had received for killing an enemy.

No longer allowing himself to be sidetracked, Gestahl quickly entered the city and headed straight for the smith's workshop. He was awarded the same fanfare from the smith, the same hearty congratulations and laugh. But Gestahl was here on business, and as promised by the smith, was allowed to pick out a set of materials to forge a piece of equipment with.

He grabbed up some simple but firm metals, put on the necessary safety equipment, and began to work once more.

  5. The Dire Wolf could only whimper as the blade pierced it's hide, finally ending it's existence as it's body faded away. As he collected himself in preparation to head back to the city, Gestahl couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy and regret for the beasts. Through what was either lack of skill on his part, or amazing talents on theirs( Most likely the former.) the Dire Wolves he had faced had forced Gestahl to attempt to combat them on his own.

They had also most likely dissuaded him from ever doing it again. But now was not the time for that, as he slowly made his way back to the city he had started in, he came across a boar, it's back turned to him.

Deciding to fight it for the sake of experience, Gestahl quickly dasher forward with his sword out, prepped to instantly kill the beast.

  6. Gestahl's legs very quickly began to disobey him due to pain as he prepared to leap onto the Dire Wolf. After a brief struggle, he finally managed to work up the momentum to leap, narrowly avoiding a decently sized rock.

The jump was successful, and Gestahl easily caught the tired wolf, ending the chase. He also began a tumble down a nearby hill, which led to a much clearer field of trees. The two parties struggled as they fell, biting and gnashing and slashing in a desperate attempt to fell each other. Upon impact with the ground, the two separated, The wolf falling flat on the ground, and Gestahl barely catching himself from doing the same.

Tired and in pain, Gestahl slowly made his way over to the Dire Wolf, raising his blade in preparation to finally end this battle.

  7. The slash caught the wolf dead on directly in the chest, leaving a deep gnash and knocking the beast back slightly. The wolf, now finished with this fight, began to sprint away, heading for the brush. Gestahl, not willing to let it go after all of this, began to chase.

The pair ran for what seemed like ages, through large thickets of brush, and thorn, narrowly dodging several trees. both parties, though still stalwartly refusing to give in, were quickly losing the stamina needed to continue the battle. Gestahl knew he would fall before the beast, and decided that he would attempt to tackle it to a halt, which would free up plenty of time to end the battle.

  8. Gestahl began to move in an erratic manner, swinging his sword in strange patterns and quickly skittering around the base of the tree, slowly confusing the now fidgeting Dire wolf. This carried on for a small time, before the Wolf finally attempted to attack, slightly disoriented. This proved to be the downfall of Gestahl's plan, as the wolf missed It's target by a mile, consequently forcing Gestahl to flub his counter.

Quickly removing himself from the tree, Gestahl made a dash for the now recovering Dire wolf. He would attempt to catch it with a solid hit, and if that didn't work he would simply dive into the nearby brush and attempt to once again gain the upper hand.

  9. Though he had correctly guessed where his enemy was hidden, Gestahl did not actually connect his attack. He did, however, startle the Wolf, who was forced to leap out of the brush to attack, it's cover blown.

Gestahl, having successfully rooted the Wolf out, managed to narrowly dodge the attack, mashing his back onto a nearby tree. The wolf once again found itself with the advantage, and began to slowly circle around the ree, growling menacingly, awaiting an opening to strike.

Gestahl, once again in a bad position, quickly decided on what he would do. He would bait the attack out of the wolf, and attempt to counter it.

  10. Though it did not go completely through the beast, it still pierced farther than necessary. As the Dire Wolf died and faded away, it gave one last, pitiful whine.

This whine was all that was needed however, as the second Wolf, now alerted to Gestahl's presence, began to silently stalk about the forest. Gestahl pulled his blade out from the dirt, and after a quick look to where the second Wolf had been, and quickly deduced that it had found him out.

The wolf slowly closed in on it's prey, and Gestahl, now in a reversal of the situation he was previously in, began to listen for signs of the enemy. A branch snap in the nearby brush was immediately followed up by Gestahl's blade, hoping to catch to enemy.

  11. The strike hit it's mark neatly, cutting a decently sized gash through the hide of the wolf, who could only attempt a yelp of pain before it's snout was forced shut by Ghestal's off hand.

The two struggled for a while, the second Dire Wolf still none the wiser. After nearly being forcibly smashed into a tree, Gestahl was forced too give up his grip to avoid the gnashing of the enemy, instead grabbing firmly onto It's stomach.

Now hanging precariously of off the wolf, Gestahl had extremely little time to act before it would cry for help. He plunged his sword straight down towards the Wolf's back, hoping to pierce it fully.

  12. "The other two Dire wolves be staying in a forest, northwest of where ya fought the last ones."

Of course Gestahl had accepted, he was always happy to help. The smith had told him where the second batch of Dire wolves had wandered off to, inside a forest to the north west of the city. It was quite a walk, and had taken quite a while to come too even catch a glimpse of the forest.

It was a hard too navigate, densely packed maze of tree, with little light or activity as far as he could see. He was only alerted to the presence of the wolves by the tell-tale growl.

The two wolves had separated, and appeared to be patrolling around, searching for prey. They had once again failed to see Ghestahl, slowly crawling among the brush and trees.

No longer willing to attempt the shadow method, and having already promised to never just swing his sword wildly, Gestahl seemed to have only one option. He would slowly creep up to one of the wolves and attempt to silence it before it could alert it's friend.

Poised behind the closest wolf in some brush, Gestahl prepared to leap out and strike, aiming for the beast's backside.

  13. This was much better. Gestahl held the shield, simple and functional, triumphantly in his hands. The smith beamed.

"Haha, yes!" He grabbed the shield to get a better look at it. "Much better!" Gestahl, now satisfied with the outcome of this quest, began to leave, happy to have succeeded. As he reached for the door, the smith's hand grabbed his shoulder.

"Er, just a second there, friend." Gestahl turned around. "Ya see, you only k'illed half of the pack. " "I was going to let ye walk away, but since ya wanted a do-over, I felt like you owe me, nay?"

Gestahl looked at the smith, secretly debating if he should accept, wounded as he was.

"Oh, but don't worry about coming out a this with nothing, far from it!" You do this for me, and I'll let ye make another ite to keep out of any materials in the shop, and give ye some materials to go."

Gestahl once again debated over what to do with himself

  14. The shield was flimsy, and it was obviously poorly made, unfit for any real combat. Gestahl couldn't help but feel embarrassed by this poor display of his talent. The smith seemed to agree.

"Hah, Look at that..beauty of a shield." He chuckled awkwardly. Gestahl couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed. "Ah, don't worry 'bout it, lad. Everyone has a bad craft once in a while. Better to get 'em out of the way early, no?"

The smith's expression softened. " I can see you put a lot of heart behind your craft, and I know you'll be a master smith one day." The smith extended his right arm and grabbed the shield from Gestahl's hands. With his left, he waves at a nearby table filled with mats. "As an extra bonus , for all your hard work, ye can take some materials with ya."

Gestahl stood staring for several moments, staring at the scrap metal he had created. A sudden feeling of determination had begun to well up inside him.

"Hey, could I...could I try again?" The words slipped out of his mouth without thought,.

The smith seemed to ponder this for a moment. "Hmmm....alright lad, I Iike that determination of yours. I'll let ye have another go of the forge, free o' charge."

Gestahl was once again standing at the forge, preparing to smith. Hopefully, he could get something actually worth calling a shield.

  15. The strike was not a direct hit, of course, but it was a hit. As Gestahl quickly fell directly towards the grass, his blade scuffed the beast, cutting is lightly. As he tasted and felt the familiar dirt of this field, he heard the wolf cry out, and as he looked up it burst into blue shards. Finally, this epic battle was finished.

When Gestahl picked himself up of the ground, the shadow was nowhere to be seen. He couldn't say he was very broken up about this.

Aside from a small chase with some wild boars on the outskirts of the city, the journey back to the smith's establishment had been uneventful. As he swung the door open, he heard the halt of a swing hammer, and a hot blast of air blew in his face.

"Ah, It's you again!" The smith smiled brightly as he walked up to Gestahl. "I've heard about your battle with them nasty wolves, good on ya for killing them blighters, lad!" "How ya feeling?"

Gestahl attempted a weak smile. Gooooddddd..." he squeaked out, not wanting to reveal his true annoyance at the fight.

"Haha, Fantastic!" The smith slapped Gestahl on the back, startling him. "Come on, let's get you set up for some smithing."

Gestahl was lead over to the man's forge, gifted some basic materials to forge a simple shield, as well as a pair of gloves and an apron.

"Alright now lad, start working of this, and I'll give you some pointers as ye go."

Gestahl nervously held the smith's hammer, and began to work.

  16. The slash, though not as instantly fatal as Gestahl had been hoping for, was still a hit, and he could tell the wolf was on it's last legs now.

"To you.." Gestahl panted out to the shadow, which eagerly took the chance to once again do nothing but pose.

"To me.." The shadow charged forward, readying itself for a jumping downward stab of nothing.

"To me!" Gestahl did the same, no longer willing to let the figment of his imagination post-pone the battle with it's useless false strikes. His blade was posed to strike directly through the head of the recovering beast.

  17. The adrenaline rush immediately wore out as Gestahl smashed face first into the tree. He could swear that both the wolf and the shadow were laughing at his expense.

"To you.." he mumbled as he pried himself away from the bark, coming face to snout with the Dire Wolf.

"Hmhmhmmm, To me.." The shadow hummed absentmindedly, easily slashing the wolf with no effort of effect. "To you."

The wolf growled menacingly at Gestahl, and seezing this chance for a reversal, he slashed, aiming to slice the top part of the wolf's snout in half. "To me!"

  18. Finally, luck was on Gestahl's side, the first Dire Wolf missing wide and tumbling beside the nearby tree, and Gestahl's strike ringing true against the second, piercing it's skull, stopping it in it's tracks and killing it instantly.

"To you!" Gestahl shouted to the now cheering shadow, feeling a small amount of pride in his feat.

"Haha, to me!" the shadow shouted back, charging at the remaining wolf and slashing wildly. "To yo-!"

"To me!" Gestahl was no longer going to wait for the shadow to finish it's false strike, dashing around the base of the tree to the backside of the wolf, attempting to slice it in half.

  19. This time, Gestahl's swing was dead-on, going directly where he had wanted it. That didn't mean the actual target was there, however, as the wolf had nimbly sidestepped his attack with what seemed to be no effort at all. His blade stuck into the ground as he fell to the floor.

The second wolf, taking this opportunity, ran in to join the fight, snapping at Gestahl's foot and latching on.

"To yo- GAH!"Another heath point lost, Gestahl kicked the wolf away, grabbing his sword and rolling towards a tree, barely dodging a slash from the first Wolf. The shadow, now standing behind both wolves, shook it's head and clicked it's tongue several times.

"To me.." It slashed it's blade, easily hitting both of the rearing wolves, too no effect, of course. "To you!"

Gestahl grunted, and now slightly annoyed at both the wolves and the shadow, stabbed his blade forward, attempting to kill instantly one of the now charging wolves. "To me!"

  20. The swing went wide, and Gestahl lost his footing, smubling through the shadow and nearly collapsing onto the ground, only catching himself at the last second. "T-to you" he muttered to the figment, who neatly side stepped the on coming attack of the wolf.

Gestahl was not so nimble, however, and he caught the slashing claw off the wolf directly in the chest, feeling the strange pain of losing a health point for the first time.

"Come on, you gonna take that!?" the shadow seemed to shout as he raised his non-existant blade over the wolf's head.

"To me!" He slashed downward. "To you!"

Having quickly caught his breath, Gestahl decided to mimic the motion of the figment. "To me!"

He slashed downward, attempting to hit the skull of the beast directly.

  21. The sheer vastness of the fields Gestahl found himself in was still incredible. It felt like he could have kept walking forever, all across the roving green.

But today was not the time day for that, as his quarry had finally appeared. Two Dire Wolves, camped out near some trees, scouted about, searching for prey. They had not yet spotted Gestahl, however, as he had quickly dashed around behind the base of the largest nearby tree. He couldn't just flail around like an idiot again, he would not allow the boar incident to repeat himself.

He had to be more precise, but he could only focus if someone else was around. He began to imagine a shadow, identical to himself appear behind the closer of the two wolves, a technique he and his brother had invented, a crutch to help synchronize their attacks.

The shadow jumped at the wolf, slashing an imaginary sword at it's tail. "To you!" It shouted.

Gestahl readied himself, and dashed at the wolf from behind the tree. "To me!" He whispered, swinging his blade wide aiming for the Dire Wolf's snout.

  22. So, uh, this is probably a really stupid question with an obvious answer. I've been reading about the combat, and it states that sword skills have certain number that must be met or exceeded to hit in combat. I can't find any list of what the mumbers are for each skill, so if someone could tell me, I'd really appreciate it!
