  1. Elric paid no mind to any awkwardness or bitterness he may have caused. He gave off the air of a carefree spirit, and went about his way as some of the other players seemed to follow slowly behind him. He honestly had not frequented too many taverns, inns, and such, but he had a good feeling about one of the local establishments.

Without telling the other players he merely picked one at random, and walked in.

This place should do perfect he said aloud to everyone within earshot.

He waltz in, sat down, and browsed the selection.

  2. "Great!," Elric exclaimed, he finally had the long awaited help he was searching for.

This would be the first time he had party up another player.

"Soooo, where do we go first," Elric had only done one quest previously, and that was on Floor one. He was kind of lost, on this new floor, and had only been up here for a few hours.

"I'm kinda new here to be honest," he said with his hand behind his head, "you'll have to lead the way...heh"

  3. Elric turned his attention toward the girl that gave Golden the cold shouldler, and a smile smirked across his face.

"Oh... excuse us, where have our manners gone?"

He gave a half assed bow, that may have come off as sarcastic even though it wasn't his intent.

"i'm Elric, and this tactless fellow is Golden. I'm not quite sure who the rest of these folks are....," he said starting to look around.

Suddenly the air of careless disregard disappeared from his face leaving nothing behind but a tone of seriousness, firmly placing his hand on her shoulder as he spoke.

"Biting off more than we can chew is what make us human, but its always what'll get you killed here in SAO.

The true test is, attempting to find the right balance between survival and maintaining your humanity."

and with that, Elric smiled again, released the girl, and started to wander off.

"I'm heading to a local tavern if anyone's interested, thats the best place for information these days," he added.

  4. Elric took a look at his supply of materials, and realized he was down to his last one. He would have to make use of it. With any luck he'd be able to craft something useful out of it , that would help him in his efforts to secure more materials later.

He knew that running of materials meant leaving his cozy life in the town of beginnings and setting forth yet again in the wilds of SAO.

He took to his work immediately, shoving the thought aside, combining at-least what he thought was the right ingredients...

The potion failed to manifest correctly, and he had to toss another one out.

"Sigh....I guess its going to be one of those kinda of days..."

and with that he left his shop in search of more materials...

  5. Elric had just finished locking his shop up for the night, and was heading to floor 2. He had heard rumors of a quest and wanted to check things out. So he decided to head through the Town of Beginnings on floor one first. As he went about his way with his hands behind his head in such a carefree manner, he noticed a familiar face. Ah it was Golden, the nice fellow from the restaurant who helped him out in his first days in SAO.

He saw a flock of newbies around Golden, and without paying much of a thought to it, Elric marched right on up to him.

"Hey, babysitting today or something, " Elric said to Golden, with a smirk?

  6. While finishing up his crafting for the day, Elric overheard a group of players talking about some sort of wasp field boss that drops a rare Alchemical potion. It intrigued him as he was needing more supplies for his newly acquired shop. So he tailed the players for a bit, eventually finding himself on Floor 2, the city of Urbus. This had been the first time Elric had left Floor One, and he was understandably nervous, but nonetheless, he pressed onward scoping out the new surroundings.

He was enjoying the scenery of medieval architecture, buried deep into a massive crater. The settlement had a much more rough feel to it, compared to the Town of Beginnings. The streets were full of life, giving it an authentic feel of a real European medieval kingdom. Elric nearly forgot his reason for traversing to the next floor in the first place; he was caught up in all that Urbus had to offer. The new shops, the new npcs, and better equipped players.

Eventually he found himself in the center of town when he realized.....he had absolutely no idea where to go for this quest he had acquired. Sure he could read the description all day, but as it was his first visit to Floor 2, he was a bit lost.

Elric noticed several players walking by all much better armed than he was. He looked down at his own shabby looking equipment.

He reached out to a player passing by, wearing black and yellow armor, "ehh...hey buddy, do you know where I can find this.... wasp queen?"

Elric thought that the player had to be at very least more knowledgeable than he was on the subject.

  7. With success growing ever greater each time I crafted, I was rather eager to try a fourth time. So again, I sat in front of my pestal and mortar, grinding down ingredients to obtain another potion. However, things this time did not go as intended. I somehow generated a gooey brown slush, it smelled like vinegar, and let's not even bother mentioning what it tasted like. It was the worse thing I ever crafted, and I tossed it immediately.

  9. The sun was shinning brightly, thus forcing me to open my lazy eyes. I really didn't want to get up, I was sleeping so peacefully. But I knew there was work to be done, so many things to do today. Firstly however, I needed to sneak in a few crafts before the day began in its full glory. So after spending a few moments shaking myself awake, I sat down at my work station and began crafting away.

I was half expecting to recieve another "good" item, with this being only my third attempt at making such things, but when the menu poped up saying :

"Rare Item Crafted" I nearly spit out the water I was drinking...

I had successfully set up my Alchemic Shop, and began working the days away over my pestal and motar. Each day would yeild a new creation....but sometimes a failure. But nonetheless I countinued about my days in SAO as if they were just normal days in the real world.

After a period of time it was like I had forgotten that I was trapped here. I was more relaxed, and not stressing about whether I was going to die each day. I was content with just making my vials of liquid. The only time I had to worry about anything, was when I ran out of materials.

But that day came sooner than I thought.

  11. Coming back from Golden's Shop, Elric was ready to get back to his ambitious work.

He knew that any Alchemist shop would not be in business without some type of healing potions, so thats what he set out to create.

Grabbing the pestal and mortar, Elric worked gracefully. Sure he lacked the knowledge of some more adept alchemist, but he felt he understood what he was shown previously to him by the NPC alchemist.

"I know I can do this.....," he said repeatedly to himself.

After a few hours of painstaking crafting, Elric was successful!

He wiped the sweat off his forehead, and set the new potion out on display.

  12. Elric had just crafted his first item, and was left rather unsatisfied with his results.

He took a deep breath, sighed and decided to visit Golden before continuing his crafting.

So he headed over to "Golden's Japanese Cuisine", in search of something that could bolster his creative habits.

He entered the restraunt and spotted Golden in the middle of his own crafting.

    "Ah Golden, my friend."

    "I'm rather famished."

  14. Elric had finally finished setting up his shop.  He finally was able to turn his attention toward his pestal & mortar.

"Now, lets get this started.... I'm feeling in a good mood today...., what should I make?"

    "OH I KNOW"

and with that Elric worked away for several hours, combining ingredients and such to the best of his abilities.

After a few minor explosions the potion was complete. It fizzed and bubbled a bit, but Elric was sure it was safe to drink.... atleast he hoped...

  15. Herbal Beginnings

After exiting the heart of the city, you come to an alleyway. There you notice shoved in between

two much more expensive looking businesses, a tiny, but cozy looking shop. A sign hanging crooked reads "Herbal Beginnings."

The windows are fogged up, the door is slightly torn to its side, and the exterior walls seem rather shabby, and yet for some reason you were compelled to enter. As you open the stiff door it squeals quietly as if it had not been opened in years.

The interior is dim lit with candle light, and barely any sunlight shines through the foggy windows. Every corner of the main room is filled with cobwebs, low and high. A small, poor excuse for a counter lays at the back of the room. It looks almost as if too strong of a breeze could knock it over.

You hear some hammering coming from the back room, and a loud crash followed by a few swears...

When you approach the counter, the door behind it suddenly opens, and a young Alchemist dressed in basic adventuring gear comes out to greet you.

"Sorry for the mess, Just opened up."

"What can I help you with?"

  16. I returned to the alchemist's shop. It was late and everyone had already retired for the night, but I was too anxious to sleep. So I waited outside the shop until day break.

The Alchemist was grateful to see I had returned, and not empty handed.

I gave her the items I had found for her, and she spent the rest of the day showing me how to come up with several different concoctions.

Some potions she created glowed red, others a hint of blue.

She taught me everything she knew, and eventually i would learn how to make these items on my own.

I finally had taken the first steps to really, EARNING A LIVING, in SAO.

I slit the throat of the final boar. I managed to kill all three without alerting them, a feat I am extremely happy with. Sure they were easy targets, but survivability is my main concern now.  I took a moment, gazing up at the night sky.  I needed to be strong - no more letting people die.

That was not going to be who I was. If I die here, i want to be remembered for what I did, not for what I didn't do.

And with that, I sheathed my weapon, and headed back into town.

I moved my blade toward the next helpless boar, and it too met with the end of my weapon, as I drove it deep into its back. It broke into pieces, and vanished like so many before. I felt no remorse for slaying them, in fact I had extreme satisfaction in doing so.

Be they virtual mobs in a game following a pre-written AI code, or murderous beasts who rerentlessly slayed a poor girl, I was going to butcher them all.

I quietly and cautiously approach the sleeping boars. I recalled earlier, when I first was informed that we could not escape from SAO, and that death was ever so real here - that a group of boars killed  a young girl. I remember watching helplessly, doing nothing as they trampled her.  Perhaps this was the same group of boars? Perhaps not. Either way to me, it did not matter - I felt like something should be done. That girl should have her revenge, and since she was not around any longer - I would have to take it for her.

I drew my sword, and walked toward the cirlce of boars. I sunk it quietly into the closest animal. The other boars did not seem to be alerted, and continued to slumber.

I watched as the boars HP dropped to zero, and it vanished.

A sigh of relief came over me, I would finally get revenge for those who died.

I shuffled through some vines, and shrubbery on my way back into the forest, investigating things as I did. I had managed to grab several materials already, but the alchemist was in need of a particular kind of herb. Sadly, I found nothing more.  For the most part the trip was a success, but I had wasted so much time with the bear, that I was now walking through darkness. The only light was that of the faint moon coming in from the thick canopy above.

The moon was full, guiding my path a bit, but because the forest was so dense, I could only see sections of it at a time.  A different set of creatures came out at night, and if SAO was anything like most games I played before....they'd be stronger too....

Looking about in every direction to ensure that I was not being stalked, I carefully passed over the fallen trees i encountered previously, then rounded the are where I had killed the spider. Soon I had made my way through the scattered trees, near where i had first heard the wasps, but at this time of night all I could hear were crickets.

I soon emerged from the forest and back into the grasslands gleaming with its midnight glory. The grass looked like a sea, as the moon lit the area up beautifully. Just a small ways off I could see the town of beginning's nighttime life. Even the three boars that had been roaming around when i first departed were sleeping in a circle as I passed.

I knew the bear was about to bite me again, as I could feel its breath on my neck flowing down my spine. I however stopped it abruptly as I drove my sword even further into the beast, then upwards, and through its head. I had successfully vanquished my foe, and just before it could deal any further damage to me.

I dropped my sword as the bear dispersed, and fell on my backside.

    Whew....that was a tough one ...

I was so relieved to have defeated the bear, and live to tell about it that I almost didn't notice the system notification menu pop up saying "Loot Obtained"

Some gold, ...huh...well I guess this will come in handy later.  I accepted the loot, got back on my feet, reacquired my sword, and was back on my way out of the forest.

The bear stood up on its back legs again to let out an intimidating roar, trying to make itself look as big as possible. It towered over me, but it gave me the opportunity I was waiting for. This time, I was in close enough proximity to take advantage of its underbelly.

I blitz the bear, stabbing the tip of my blade into its gut, and forcing it deeper with the palm of my hand.

I had done it! The battle was over!  .....or so I thought....

The bear let out another roar, and I double checked it's HP gauge.  Still a sliver of health left!

Soon I paid for my tactic, as the claw of the bear swooped down, scratching my backside. The bear had grappled me.

I could've given up right there, my mind was dull due to the pain, I could feel my HP draining as the bear took a step back, it probably didn't expect any retaliation from me, which is why I had to counter immediately. I dropped forward , to the ground, rolling off my shoulder, and struck the beast in the leg as I passed.

It attempted to swipe me with its claw during my desperate motion, but I managed to slip away without incurring any further harm.

I gradually, got back up on my feet, and lifted my sword in  defense of whatever came next.

We continued to circle one another for a bit, the sun was nearly set and darkness had befallen most of the forest. I was growing ever impatient. I did not want to be caught in the forest during the night. In my impatience, I rushed toward the bear, swinging my sword erratically.

"A HIT, YES!" I cheered to myself mentally.

But my celebration was premature; as soon as my blade connected with the beast, it latched on to me with all the force of its jaws.

Pain seared from my neck to the rest of my body, as it sunk its teeth into me.

After digging in rather deep, and causing lots of damage, the bear released me, and I fell to my knees grasping my entry wound with my open hand.
