  1. The patch of grass, quite literally, was just that, a patch of muddy grass. The two of them tried to dig into it, but to no avail, meeting a layer of bedrock not too far away from the surface. It became very clear that the way out was behind a puzzle. Sadly, the search for it's pieces unsuccessful, the warcry of a woman, presumably that of the chain mailed one from before, being the only noticeable event during their short search, that is, asides from the puzzle being solved. Accepting the fact that digging was, in every sense, not going to get them anywhere, Rawk began to think back to details of the quest itself. Once he remembered just when the quest popped up, and took into account the meaning behind "Trigger word", Rawk felt like an idiot for having even tried to dig. Positioning himself next to where the chest once stood, Rawk shouted, "Trap!" John flinched, thinking it was a warning directed towards him, his confusion only increasing when the barrier suddenly vanished.

That, however, wasn't the only "barrier" which vanished; where there was once a patch, a deep hole could be found. With walls of dirt, a shanty looking ladder of rope and wood, and a shroud of darkness at the bottom; Rawk wasn't at all tempted to go down. The words inquiry, "Accept Quest" popped up in the center of Rawk's vision as soon as "Trigger Word" vanished, and he was quick to deny it. John had made it to the center a few seconds before the pit closed, and quickly inferred what had happened. "Trap?" He muttered, and on key, the pit opened once again. Rawk, intrigued at John's capability to trigger the quest, but too drained to care, told him to say "Deny"; the boy followed orders, and the pit was sealed once again.

Ignoring the fact that NPC's shouldn't be able to trigger quests, Rawk added "checking the hole" to his bucket-list, for he was far too tired and surely underleveled to even think about entering it. All Rawk wanted now was to finish the quest and be done with it, and possibly get a nice drink when all was said and done. "Hope whoever made that died," John spat at the patch, before heading back off towards their "path", Rawk followed wordlessly, inwardly agreeing with John.

  2. Rawk charged the bear and thrust into it before it could awaken, spear stabbing into it one last time before the bear shattered into pixels, leaving an item behind in it's wake. "Bravo, you're getting better at this," John clapped slowly, his own spot against the wall not too far away from that of the bear, an apple core sinking into the mud not too far away from his left boot. "Yeah, I guess so," Rawk sheathed his spear, bending a knee to loot the spark. The "Bear-Hide cloak", another piece of the makeshift collection, it would seem. "Why do you think the wall is still up? I thought by killing the bear, you should've gotten rid of it," John pointed back to the barrier, which was still up. The quest "Trigger word" was still labeled as "Incomplete" for Rawk, so he could only assume he'd have to try and find the chest if he wanted to shoo away the barrier. "We probably have to try the chest.....or something, not sure how to get it out of the ground,"  Rawk shrugged, rising from his crouch and turning back to the spot where the chest once lay. The dirt didn't even look disturbed, and if he hadn't seen it sink into the ground himself, he probably would've doubted it was ever there. "Well, you can get rid of it, adventurers always can," John pushed against the wall, strolling off to the center of the clearing, Rawk following.

  3. With the cooldown of his sword art coming off, a plan formulated, and a smile to Rawk's face. Returning to the pattern of exchanges, Rawk baited the bear with a faked misstep, and waited for the bear to take advantage of it. The bear couldn't miss the opportunity of a free hit, and thus, it fell for the bait, lunging with both paws raised in the air, soon to slam back down on their target. Rawk activated his sword art, the tip of his spear glowing crimson as he trusted into the exposed gut of the bear. While normally, Rawk would've been crushed when the bear fell on him, the strength of the sword art allowed him to hoist the bear up into the air, spear sinking into it's flesh. Not wasting any time, nor the resistance the bear's body offered, he swung down horizontally towards the wall, flinging the bear off his spear as the energies within it receded. The bear smacked up against the barrier, going limp as it hit the ground, not dead, but clearly phased.

  4. Rawk wasn't entirely comfortable with his mud covered spear, but had to make do, the fight hadn't reached it's end yet. His newfound armor did a considerably good job at keeping the mud from sticking, surprisingly, but even that couldn't save his spear, which was already sticky thanks to the nonsense in the dugout. Fortunately for Rawk, he got an opportunity to wipe off his spear when the bear slipped up on the mud, the hawk prioritizing wieldiness over damage, scraping off the mud where it mattered whilst the bear recovered from its fall.

  5. Rawk thrust a tad too hard towards the bear's left cheek, allowing it to to grab at Rawk spear, it's injured "Quadrant 3" leg back to around it's former strength. Yanking back hard, it flung Rawk into the mud, his spear going with him as he rolled about in a dense patch of it. The bear, who was slow to leap on the opportunity, missed it's chance to attack Rawk, who sprung up from the ground by the time it was close, spear already forcing it to dodge.

  6. This pattern continued on for a tad, each waiting for the other to leave itself open, biding their time with small frivolous attacks which were easily avoided. The fight moved closer to John as Rawk pressed the advance, forcing the bear to back up. John had busied himself with a snack, munching away on an apple he'd brought with him. The bear was practically covered in mud, slowing it's movements by a tad. Regardless, the bear managed to pick up the pace, and had effectively balanced the scale of momentum.

  7. The bear, who acclimated to the mud quickly, pushed itself back off the ground, running off just in time to dodge the spear point which thrusted at it's hind. Rebounding once again the bear decided to mix things up, taking up a defensive position, and forcing Rawk to come to it. Rawk did just that, keeping his spear leveled with the bear's face. Giving it a few weaker thrusts to his opponent, as to avoid over-committing, he watched as  the bear swatted away every attack, waiting for an opening; the bear kept the same mentality.

  8. Due to it's "jogging" away being faster than the stroll at which Rawk followed, the Bear finally managed to recover from it's first engage. Curving it's path, so that it redirected towards Rawk, the bear snarled to show it was in no way intimidated; Rawk couldn't say the same, but he wasn't going to lose to a bear. Activating a "Sword" art, his spear glowed blue as the system took partial control. Once the bear was considerably close, the art triggered, Rawk leaping further than he should've been capable of to his right, the bear skidding where he once stood. The second part of the art went through as leaped backwards into the air, only to be carried by some invisible force towards the bear. Spear pointed out, and with the speed of before, Rawk stabbed into the bear's side. The final part of the art activated, aiding Rawk in pulling out the spear, it's blue glow fading away as the bear tumbled to the ground.

  9. Rawk pressed on the assault, the bear's failure proving to be Rawk's momentum. While it stumbled to get up,  Rawk aimed another thrust towards it's inured leg, nicking it on the lower leg. The bear stumbled at this, shaking in hopes of getting the spear out of it. That did it no favors, and Rawk readied another thrust, the bear barely limping away from the attack. Rawk didn't relent, following the bear in slow and tedious steps, spear point pointed towards it; no reason to rush and trip up if he didn't need to. John didn't do much of anything, walking off towards the barrier wall closest to where he was already headed, and leaning against it.

  10. The two had struck up a small conversation about the other's observations of events as of recent in the starting city, as both were familiar with the going on's and inter-guild-politics of "Olathe". The the first silk they ever saw drew near, and with it, the clearing. Having taken the brunt of the harsh rain thanks to it's lack of cover, the clearing was considerably muddy, even with the sun shining; that, however, was not the only change to come. In the dead center of the clearing now sat a treasure chest. This chest appeared to have the very same type of label that was on the bags prior, albeit a larger version, a white tag with black ink scrawled on it. From the distance they stood, it hard to distinguish what exactly was on the tag, and it was for that reason alone that they approached the chest, merely curiosity. It was clear to Rawk this was some form of convoluted plot, a quest of sorts, something he wanted no part in; still, he wanted to see the message just as much as John did.

Both used their respective sticks to trek over the muddy terrain, Rawk certain that, provided they didn't trigger what was obviously a trap, no enemies would attack them, thus making the earlier precaution he exhibited around the clearing pointless. Once close enough to make out what the chest "said", Rawk couldn't help but feel a tint of amusement. "Trap" was the message left behind for them, it seemed that, this time, the traps would only tempt with the potential reward, rather than definite; Rawk wasn't familiar with the mechanics behind chests, but he knew they were, generally speaking, not worth it. John had a similar reaction to Rawk's, the chest proving to be an interesting enough joke. Regardless, they had to be on their way, both already agreeing to leave the chest untouched. "Who would mess with something labeled 'Trap', seems like a recipe for disaster," John marched off towards the other side of the clearing, Rawk moving to follow; unfortunately for them, that wasn't going to happen.

The transparent blue barrier of an area suddenly became visible around the circumference of the clearing,  the chest shaking with a frightening vigor before sinking below the ground. Startled, Rawk stumbled back, John muttering a few dark words as an enemy bear seemingly teleported in where the chest once stood. The quest, "Trigger Word" popped up on Rawk's interface as he rose from the ground. Whatever thoughts he would've had were promptly interrupted by the bear, who, like the spider, wasted no time whatsoever. Charging Rawk with a coarse growl, it was all Rawk could do but side step. Fortunately, the slipperiness of the mud prevented the bear from rebounding as quickly as it hoped, the thing sliding down the mud when it tried to skid to a stop. Clearly, this quest hadn't taken into account rain, but Rawk wasn't one to fight honorably when it came to monsters, taking advantage of the thing's ill luck to stab it in the thigh with his spear.

  11. They were passing all sorts of sight, or so it would seem; one of which being a deceased ram which had been torn into by a wolf or two. Flies had just started finding their way to the corpse, so it was clear that the death must've been recent; and to those who had the ability to interact with the system, it would've been even more clear thanks to the despawn timer. Regardless, they arrived in time for Rawk to shear a unit of wool off with ye-olde knife, filling up his loot bag quite nicely. They spared a moment of silence for the ram before continuing on their way.

  12. Not wanting to stick around the net and find out who was responsible, the two were quickly on their way, where they were soon to cross paths with a sleeping player. A girl in chain-mail lain against a tree with her weapons presumably in the digitized storage. There wasn't much to note of her, so they chugged past without much of a word. John noted that they were nearing the clearing they'd come across earlier, and that they must've went in a circle, or something of the sort. Rawk didn't mind, as the walk back seemed to be much more eventful, and profitable, than the walk to the infamous dugout.

  13. There was a line of absurdity that Rawk was certain he'd already peaked over back at the decade-long fight with the spider, but no, he just reached the tip. They found a third bag shortly after the second, this one labeled, "Absolute Garbage". Despite the name, the two still checked it for traps with the utmost delicacy, and for their trouble, the activated a hidden net only inches in-front of the bag. The net sprang up in the air, and certainly would've caught anyone who walked in it's grasp. "See!? What did I tell you!?!" John cheered, grabbing the bag and tossing it over Rawk, before continuing along the path. Following, Rawk opened the bag only to find just what the label said, garbage, and repulsively stinky garbage at that; yet, for some reason, when he checked the bag, the "Ding" of a level up rang in his interface, how odd. He stored the bag just in case.

  14. The two of them stared blankly at the next oddity they found, doubtlessly from the same person, or quest, responsible for the first bag. Before them sat another bag, this one labeled "Bag-o Crafting Gold"; because of its name alone, they almost didn't touch it. Who left gold out in the woods? The mere idea was something only a prankster could come up with. "At this rate, we're probably going to find another bag, and that'll be boogy trapped; this one? Probably isn't. It's all about the slow set up," John reasoned, even his childish bravery suspect to suspicion. That reason, despite how weak, was enough to entice Rawk to reluctantly approach the bag, after checking for traps as judiciously as he could, of course. Lo' and behold, the bag wasn't rigged, and did indeed hold gold within. Rawk offered a chunk to John, but the boy refused, claiming, "He wouldn't know what to do with it."; Rawk honestly didn't know either, he was setting up to be a Tailor, not a smith.

From the small conversation that popped up between the three, Rawk got the distinct impression that he was one of those mellow individual's who were suspect to fits of rage over the strangest things. That,  however, was merely a hunch, and Rawk tried not to be presumptuous about others. Funnily enough, the bandanna fellow go the same impression of Rawk. 16. Rawk never felt so relived before, the pleasures of even clunky armor of shoddy make was enough to make him ecstatic. The painfully itchy bug bites, the irritating scrape of leave's, the lingering putrid smell along with the wet feeling that came with it, all gone and solved; it was utter bliss, not to repeat myself. Rawk hummed a merry tune as they marched along, and near it's end, they came across a merry surprise. Randomly, in the middle of the forest, sat a bag labeled, "Crafting Feathers"  about the size of an infant. The two looked at each other, already certain the other thought it was a trap. However, despite all their precaution, and attempts to trigger whatever it might've been, they saw no sign of a trap, and eventually, John had the gal to simply pick up the bag. Strangely enough, nothing happened when he did, so, out of the kindness of his heart, John tossed Rawk the bag. Another for the loot pile, it would seem.

  17. "Hey, wait," Rawk slowed to a stop, bringing up his menu with the tap of a finger. "Yeah? What is it?" John had found a new branch to mess around with, this one going more along the line's of "Staff", easily towering over it's owner. "I think I might be able to get out of these rags!" Rawk had always assumed one required the appropriate skill to wear armor, but if that was true, then he probably wouldn't be able to use his spear. The bugs and whatnot of the forest had began to grow irksome, and having holes in one's clothing wasn't a remedy whatsoever. After scrolling through the interface a tad, he inwardly cheered when he saw the "equip" button was accessible; Rawk could say farewell to those nasty rag's, and hello to some comfy leather Armor!

Wolf-hide armor (Good/Leather)~ Leather armor made primarily from the pelt of a brown wolf. As most armor's of this sort go, the head is appropriately used as a headdress, the lower jaw removed. The front paws are tied together and draped under the neck, a bracelet of teeth from the lower jaw finding itself on the neck.  In the middle of the necklace's string, a misshapen tooth finds it's home, black and brown with grime that turns to white at it's tip, and considerably larger than it's compatriots, the tooth stands out as a curved centerpiece. The wolf's pelt continues to go down the back of its owner, fastened tight to the torso through use of a few leather straps. On the front, pieces of leather armor long past their use have been meshed and stitched together to form a sturdy armor, the straps keeping it tight. Brown legging's and the usual boots adorn the bottom of this armor, and the shoulder-pads are made of the upper jaw's of two separate wolves. Leather gloves with teeth fastened to their knuckles ensure that the user is ready for anything. This armor is at best, shoddy, and it's makeshift component's paint pictures about the situation of those who use it. Rawk's sheath is now fastened to his back by one of the straps.

"Seems Barbaric," John noted, completely unphased by the instantaneous clothing change. Rawk looked himself over as best as he could. and was forced to agree. Not exactly the look he was aiming for, but it would do; almost anything was better than what remained of his basic clothing, which was quickly discarded; not even worth a penny.

  18. The two of them passed another player who was fighting two wolves; his green health bar combined with how easily he controlled the wolves seemed to indicate that he had things under control, but Rawk still offered to help, only to get shot down. The fellow was clad in a green undershirt and white pants, a bandanna wrapped about the blond hair which was dyed, and a dagger clasped tightly in his hand; he was a green player. The two only watched him for a few moments before moving on, the sounds of pixels bursting shortly following their departure. They would bump into the fellow shortly thereafter, harvesting a berry bush. Nothing but the brief "hello" was imparted between the two "parties".

Whilst he couldn't pull off the trick with the speed and elegance that a more seasoned spearwielder had, it passed the time by, whilst being an enjoyable experience. John was no longer with his knife, having accidentally dropped it into a bush of thorns which neither wanted to deal with; probably a good thing in the end. For whatever reason, the cicadas decided to return to their buzzing, drowning out the other stray chirps, buzzes, and other sounds they'd been hearing earlier.

  20. "So.....how big would the "den" be? You never said," Rawk was running out of things to think of, and with the boredom starting to set in, any conversation was good conversation; looking to and forth for any signs of residue silk, he listened. "Well, I'd say it's about about half of the city's center.....but that's more of an estimation. Silkworms change dens frequently, since by the time the next generation comes by, the uninhabited silk has already been eaten. But, generally speaking, it's pretty big. Chances are, that's where whatever caused this is holed up, or originated. The spiders had to have been here for a while, otherwise it's simply impossible for them to be here. That can only mean that the silkworms must've disturbed something, and they only seriously mess with the environment when it comes to den-making." At times, Rawk almost forgot that John was a child, or an NPC for that matter. Catching a splotch of silk in his peripheral, Rawk scooped it up with the tip of his spear, storing it. "Either way, we'll get to the bottom of this eventually." Rawk raised a brow at this, "We'll?" John shrugged, "As a race."

  21. After tip-toeing their way about the the desolate scene, as to avoid tripping, they were soon back onto their previous path. From there, things went surprisingly smooth considering their previous luck, and Rawk even came across a unit of Silk. Both made occasional small talk, but nothing further than that. As if Lady luck was apologizing for her seemingly malicious motives, the rain let up shortly after the battle, and a sunny warmth soon swarmed over the forest.

  22. The water didn't help much, but it left the spear in a much better condition than it was in before. Rawk didn't understand how exactly the spear avoided the corrosive effects of the blood, he wasn't one to ask. Looking himself over, he thanked the gods for the set of armor that he'd gotten earlier, and would be certain to equip it once he got the SP he needed from the quest. Speaking of which, John returned from wherever he went off to, "Oh, you're done......that fight, it was an experience for sure; are you ok?"  Rawk could barely see him, but judging from how he sounded, not much had happened on his end of things. "Yeah, yeah, I'm okay....didn't even get anything for my trouble, but, that's life," climbing out of the dugout, Rawk was able to fully appreciate just how much damage the spider had done to the terrain, "Wow..." he was glad that was over. John was more amazed at the state of Rawk's clothing, having not seen the full extent of the damage dealt in the dugout, "Wow......did a number to your clothes, hmm?" Rawk nodded, "Yeah, anyways, lets head off, I'm getting sick and tired of this place." They both agreed, albeit for different reasons.

  23. Rawk gripped the spider by it's sides, pulling it, and his own spear, up and off his person. The spear's blade left his chest with a burst of pixels, the spider frantically thrashing its legs. Not wanting to hold the thing any longer than he had to, Rawk heaved the spider up, and flung it with all his strength. The spider landed on its back, the butt of the spear slamming against the ground before it and shooting out of it's abdomen, landing back into Rawk's chest, tip first. The spear harpooned Rawk into the mound, and much to his displeasure, made it harder for him to get off the sticky thing. The spider, upon landing, convulsed for a few moments, the last of it's blood oozing out before it's body faded to pixels, it's blood following it. Rawk, pulling out his spear, used the thing to push himself back up from the mound. Looking back to the mound, Rawk quickly realized that it wouldn't even be worth it to try and loot it, seeing as how ruined it was. Feeling defeated, despite his victory, Rawk trudged through the water, using the spear as a walking stick. Even the ding of a level up didn't provide comfort,  the dirtiness of his spear adding to the sordidness. He couldn't hear a thing from John, who had grown bored of the combat sometime after their falling into the hole. "I'M DONE!" Rawk figured that'd grab John's attention, dropping his spear in the water and kicking it around once he realized it needed a cleaning.

  24. Rawk once again, had to go through the process of escaping the mound, struggling just as lividly as the spider did. The whole entire battle had been a battle of nonsense, and that pattern didn't end there. The spider had a record of blunders, but it was by no means a fool; it knew when to give up and try something new. It pushed the butt end of the spear against the dirt floor ever so slightly so that the point jutted back out of it's back. Once finished, the spider sprung towards the immobilized Rawk, thrusting his own spear point into his chest. Rawk simply stared at the spider in surprise, the spider chattering in gibberish, incapable of spitting anymore due to the spear in its abdomen. It's green blood oozed out onto Rawk, leaving the front of his shirt in tatters, whistling away his hp bar.

  25. Finally managing to push himself off the dirtied silk, Rawk grumbled a few curses, boots splashing against the concoction of diluted acidic blood and water as he made his way over to unsheathe his spear from the spider. The spider would have none of this, apparently, the handle of the spear thwacking Rawk in the face, and sending him right back down and onto the mound. "OH COME ON!" Rawk conveyed the emotions of the spider perfectly in his fit, writhing in what was effectively his prison. The spider grew even more frantic, the water slowing it's movements considerably. The dugout, at this point, smelled worst than anything Rawk had ever taken a whiff of prior, bits and pieces of the silkworm floating out on the water next to dead spiderbabies; holes having formed in the mound during the struggle.
