  1. Leon nodded slowly, a smile dancing across his face as Atzo mentioned how he did not allow himself to be caught off guard. That sounded so intense, he thought to himself, maybe he REALLY got into this game. He continued to listen, and raised an eyebrow at the mention of Atzo being a guild leader. He thought for a few moments and nodded, "I like the idea of joining a guild, especially since it allows players to protect and assist one another. However, I must ask, is there any ulterior motive? Or, more accurately, what is the purpose of the guild? I don't mean to sound skeptical, because I'm not, but I still feel like asking, just because knowing is always better than not knowing."

Maybe, Leon thought, maybe I should ask him about what it's like to be in a guild? It could be something to help me later in this game.

  2. Leon raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms, letting a little smirk show, "Well I guess it's a REAL good thing that you aren't a killer, then. But, I must ask," his tone became quizzical again, "you seem more than strong enough to handle any trouble that I suspect would be on the first floor. So is there some sort of surprise factor involved? Could you still be caught off guard and actually be injured, even though you are a lot stronger than I?" He began to wonder, and started to regret all those times he just kind of went out wandering. If I had known that it still kept stronger players on edge, he shifted his footing while he thought to himself, I'd have started in on getting stronger WAY earlier. "Maybe," Leon said with a small laugh, "I should start working towards self-improvement. Trying to wrap my head around the concept of a... well, of a death game.. it's kind of obscure."

Had he really forgotten the risks? People were literally dying. He'd have to pay more attention and start getting stronger.

  3. Leon tilted his head thoughtfully, not certain who Hikoru was, but moved on and answered the next question, "Truth be told, I spend a lot of time out here. I'm not sure if I do it to admire the scenery or not, however, I seem to keep ignoring the obvious dangers that come with being outside of safe zones." He laughed and shook his head, glancing around. Mayhaps I should ask him about the tree, he thought, let's keep the conversation going, he seems like a nice guy. Smiling, Leon spoke, curiosity evident in his voice, "Soooo, this may be a little off topic, and I probably should have asked immediately, but uh.. where did you come from? The tree would be a logical answer but hey, this is SAO, so you never know right?"

Leon really wanted to ask a few other questions, especially about the whole Forgotten King thing. Was it just a role he played, or some sort of guild related title he had earned? Who knew? Maybe he'd find out in a little while.

  4. Leon tensed up when he heard the player land in front of him, but tried not to show it. As the player spoke, he slowly opened his eyes, blinking a few times. Wow, he thought as Atzo introduced himself, he's really into this game. He gave a small smile and took Atzo's hand, starting to stand, "I'd like to imagine this game doesn't have it out for me, so I try to just play it cool. So far I've been pretty safe but uh.. if I make it to the front lines, I'm sure that'll change." He paused for a brief moment, and then gave a small shrug, "I'm Leon, although my username suggests something much more outlandish. A pleasure to meet you." Inwardly, he felt a little uncomfortable. Had this player, Atzo, been in the tree above him? That was the logical conclusion, but this WAS a video game, deadly or not. Maybe I'll ask him about it here shortly. For now, lets see where this interaction goes.

(I apologize for how long it took to respond. I have had an extremely busy past few days, and couldn't do more than check in on the site every now and then.)

  5. Leon stopped walking and glanced around, sighing in relief once he was certain there were no mobs nearby. He did, however, spot a singular tree in the middle of the field he was in, and began to make his way toward it. As he walked, he drew his sword and swung it around a few times to ease his nerves. He had no particular reason for going on this particular trip, and he had no destination, so he was more or less just wandering.

I always hate leaving the city, he thought to himself, swinging the sword a couple more times before sheathing it, the idea of fighting mobs and dying isn't a pleasant one, so why do I do this?

For now though, he knew he wouldn't be harmed by mobs. Once he made it to the tree, he sat down and leaned against it, glad to be in the shade, since the sun was rather bright on this particular day. Closing his eyes, he let himself relax and started to hum a tune. Maybe I'll have a small nap, he thought, I'm safe as is so it'll be fine.

    Backstory

(I am SO sorry this turned out to be a big ol' brick of backstory, I got carried away)

Leon was born unlucky, it seems. His parents split before he was three, and shortly thereafter, he and his brothers were kidnapped. He recalls the chase, being found, and returned to his mother at one point. And so, since he was too young to understand the situation at the time, he was left with confusing memories that he is still attempting to understand.

The rest of his early childhood played out fairly well, he moved around a lot, but managed to bounce back and forth between his parents (though he primarily lived with his mother) so that there wouldn't be a lack of a bond there. However, as he got older, he started to notice flaws in his family he hadn't noticed before, especially after his father moved too far away to visit anymore. He'd known his parents drank, but not to the extent he started to see it happen. His mother became almost negligent, spending all of her time locked in her room, isolated, leaving Leon and his brothers to fend for themselves. Some would say it built character though, since he learned how to manage a household (from cooking to cleaning to repairing appliances and furniture) himself while in seventh grade.

He didn't find any of that too difficult, at the time, but the longer and longer he did his best to hold his family together, the more it started to wear him out. His brothers challenged his every decision, though he was the oldest and hardest working boy in the house, and his mother continued to drink, only leaving her room when in a fit of rage (which was often directed at Leon himself, and was generally done in an abusive manner). It was like this for a few years, and he managed to endure and grow some thicker skin, but by tenth grade he had made a few friends, and they provided enough emotional support for him to keep on going without as much weighing on his shoulders.

One of those friends, Clarence, gave him an old laptop with a few emulators on it. At the time, Leon didn't care much for all the computer nonsense, and he cared even less for games, since he saw them as childish. But he tried a few older RPG's, since Clarence was the persistent type.

Leon was hooked. Every second of free time he had, he would spend playing these games. He'd beat one game after another, and every time he ran into some puzzle or difficult boss battle, Clarence was more than willing to give advice (but never beat the games for him). The games provided a slight escape from the at-home life he had grown weary of.

But his newfound joy was shortly lived. Clarence was killed in a car accident, the beginning of Leon's junior year of highschool, and less than a week later, Leon came home from school to see his house in flames. His mother and brothers stood across the street, silently, as firefighters worked hard to quench the flame. Police got involved, when the subject of possible arson arose. One thing led to another, and it was revealed to the police that Leon's mother was both abusive and negligent, which quickly put Leon and his brothers into foster care.

However, his foster parents were kind people, they spent time getting to know Leon and his brothers and, one day, surprised them all with gifts. Leon's gift, in particular, was quite the surprise. His foster parents had noticed how much he enjoyed the RPG's from before, and they bought him something they'd seen on TV: the oh so obvious new game Sword Art Online.

If they had known what was about to happen with the game, they could have avoided it entirely, and things would have gone so much more smoothly.

    Virtues:

Accountable - Leon has learned to own up and take responsibility for things, both good and bad. It helps his dealings with people in that he comes across as more honest and willing to accept that he makes mistakes. This sense of accountability was really fleshed out whenever he had to run the house alone, without any assistance whatsoever.

Sincere - Leon always has and always will say things and mean it, generally in the form of compliments. And when he has an issue with someone, he tries his best to get his meaning across without sounding harsh (as an example, he would try to tell his mother that her drinking was hurting the family, but he'd never say it in an angry or cruel way). So generally, he just tries his best to be kind and always makes sure to tell the truth, because he knows it's easier to make friends that way.

Kind - How best to explain this? Leon spent his entire life seeing how negativity does nothing but hurt people, including himself, so he does his absolute best to make sure and help others whenever he can. There are times he will avoid helping someone, but generally only if he is confident that they can help themselves more than he can. He hates to see someone in pain, or stressed, and generally tries his hardest to take that burden from them and resolve it.

    Flaws:
    Reference: http://www.darkworldrpg.com/lore/flaws.html
Cocky - Leon has built up a little bit of an ego, unintentionally, because of having to single-handedly manage a family. In his head, he's made himself out to be more capable than many of his former peers, and almost places himself on a pedestal. His friends only reinforced that concept because he was the face of their group, and they constantly bolstered his ego. He's confident, sometimes too confident, and can sometimes underestimate people because of how he views himself.

Paranoid/Insecure - While Leon is quite full of himself, one of his more recently developed personal issues is that he's constantly in fear of things going south again. He's not scared to make friends, but he is afraid to lose them, and is always on edge when it comes to those who are close to him. This stems from the loss of Clarence, his home, and his being thrown into foster care. Generally, it can be shown through him being over cautious and constantly checking in with people to ensure that they are still safe.

Lost (couldn't think of a word that really works here) - Leon has never really had a plan for anything in life, he just kind of takes it as it comes, and wings it. He hasn't ever had the chance to set major goals for himself and, because of that, doesn't really care how things play out, so long as he and those he cares about are alright. This is an issue in SAO because it has led to him wasting a lot of time doing absolutely nothing, and it makes it hard for him to really decide upon what he wants to do with himself.
