Dan moved in to slash at the boar again, cursing as he missed once again. He managed to move out of the way of the creature's own strike. He hummed. This was the last fight, if he finished this, he could finish the quest a little later once he had better gear. He tried using that as an incentive to finish this fight. As he prepared for another round though he noticed his energy was at 0. He cursed himself for not noticing it before. "Thank you dark souls." He said, frustrated that the stamina bar found a way to haunt him in this game as well. "Hey um Kat!" He called out to his partner, who looked like she was looking at something in the ground. He didn't have time to worry about that at the moment though. "Gonna need a switch here! Dark souls is ruining everything again!"

Dan moved to strike from the left. The boar seeing this moved to protect it's flank, creating just the opening he needed. He pushed off his left foot and took a swipe at the boars side. The boar seemed surprised that it had fallen for this strategy again. "So they're dumber than goldfish." Dan said. "Good to know." The boar tried to retaliate, attempting to strike the boar with it's small tusks, but to no avail. Dan merely side stepped the beast as it slid past him. He wanted to try out a new strategy but nothing was really coming to mind. He could have had Katagawa distract the beast while he circled around and struck from behind. To do that, however, she would need to attack to gain it's agro which would most likely kill the thing. It didn't leave him many options aside from hitting it until it died.

Dan moved to strike again at the creature, hoping to hasten it's demise. The boar however anticipated this and dodged to the side going in for a strike itself. Thankfully with the amount of force the warrior put in his strike he managed to fall into a roll and back on his feet, avoiding the blow. He had to be careful the thing seemed craftier than it looked. These things couldn't hurt him much, but he couldn't afford to think like that. Any battle and every battle could kill him. That's how he needed to think if he were to survive in this world. Maybe he could try to feint again. It had worked on the last creature. Hopefully these things were dumber than goldfish and therefore lacked the pattern recognition to realize the tactic. With, what he thought at least was, a strong plan he readied himself for the next round.

Dan breathed deeply as he preps for another strike. He lashed out with his blade slicing through the air, connecting with the beasts forehead, leaving a deep red gash. The beast squealed as it glowed brightly and shattered in to bright blue polygons. Dan was happy to have killed a second boar, but was disappointed to see it didn't drop the items he required. He didn't have time to worry about that though as it's sibling crashed into him. Dan grunted as he slid a small distance from the beast. He flourished his blade as he readied himself for the next round. 'Alright, you're almost done.' He thought to himself. 'This is the last one, after this you can take a break.' Having finally killed the other boar gave him a boost in confidence. Hopefully it would be enough to last him the remainder of this fight. Regardless though, it was clear he needed better gear, something to boost the drops for certain, as well as something to aid his accuracy.

Dan cracked his knuckles before rolling his head one way then the other before pulling his sword loose from the ground. "Yeah, I heard it." He said in response to her retort. "Alright let's give this another go." He ran up towards the second boar, aiming to strike at it's side. It prepares itself, snorting as it paws at the ground ready to attack. At the last moment Dan plants his foot on the ground and pushes off in the other direction in a feint. The attack his initial target prepared missed as he slashed into the other boar. That one was ready for him though. As he brought his sword down on the beast, it brought it's tusks bear, poking him in the shin as it squealed in pain from the attack. 'Alright.' The warrior thought to himself. 'Looks like it's time to restart the offensive.' Rather than the previous times he kept himself close to these things, doing his best to keep an eye on the second boar at such close range.

Dan sighed, took a deep breath and moved cautiously towards the pups once more. Keeping his guard up he circled his opponent waiting for the right time to strike. He was careful to keep an eye on both of them as he didn't want to end up like that guy in that really old movie about dinosaurs. Anyways it seems that the little ones got impatient as they charged at him with high pitched squeals. He managed to side step them easily but when he tried to follow up with an attack he missed. At this point he grit his teeth as he shoved the tip of his rapier into the ground and leaned on it. "Okay, I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong here." At this point he's not even worried about the boars, seeing that they only ever took 1 HP at a time they weren't really a threat. "Like, I feel like I'm doing everything right but I'm just not connecting. Not even to mention that when I do eventually manage to kill these things they aren't guaranteed to drop the items, which seems like a design flaw for a quest. Honestly it feels like this game was made by a sadist."

"Yeah fat lot of good that's doing for me!" He cried back. His grip on his hilt tightened as he prepped a second sword art, the blade glowed and hummed, slightly vibrating in his hand. He let the sword art fly... And missed again. Again the boar counter attacked, throwing him to the ground though thankfully out of the way of the second boar's attack. Dan grit his teeth as he stabbed his blade in the ground to help himself up. "Are you KIDDING me?!" He shouted. "I'm being shown up by a pig! A baby pig at that!" He wanted to swing his sword wildly in rage but took a breath and calmed himself. That would just waste energy and create too many openings for these things. He could always run but these things were so weak it wasn't even worth it, he could try hiding, but no, that wouldn't work either, he had no hiding skills or anything. The game was not very generous when it came options for the early game. You just had to slash and or stab your opponent. He cleared his head readying himself for the next bout.

Dan's eyes widened and his jaw dropped. She killed a pig... By throwing a pebble at it. "Okay so either you are stronger than advertised or you've just discovered the most powerful weapon in the game." He laughed at his own joke but not for long, two other boar had just turned towards them at the sudden death of their sibling and they did not look very pleased about it. "Okay all jokes aside it looks like it's time to throw down again." He unsheathed his rapier and ran out towards the field. 'Alright just do what she said.' He thought as he leveled his sword in front of him. 'Settle into the motions.' He raised his rapier to his left shoulder. 'Find where it begins.' His blade let out a soft hum as it began to glow a deep red. 'And then...' "Release!" He exclaimed as his sword began to fly beyond his control, and of course both swings fly wide allowing both boars to land a counter attack. He grunted, though his armor took most of the damage. Looking down at his blade he yelled, "Why did I even bother putting Accuracy on you?!"

Dan hummed and nodded as he listened intently. It made sense but he still wasn't sure how much planning he could do. Until recently he didn't know much about swordsmanship, only what he'd seen in the movies, and he doubted those were completely accurate especially as they generally took place in outer space. As well he wasn't a great tactician. Granted he'd probably have to learn how to be, considering a bad plan likely equaled death in this world. "So a couple things, first what kind of strategy would you recommend for these little guys. Secondly, what's a sword art?" He asked, his head tilted slightly to the side. "Is it that thing that you did earlier to a bunch of those boars? How do I do one of those?" He asked. He was practically bouncing up and down. Seeing how powerful they were they would probably help speed things up considerably. 

Dan nodded, "So be proactive not reactive right?" He had heard something like that before but he couldn't remember where or why. Either way he listened to her talk and tried to absorb the information, it was likely to save his life in more difficult battles, but he found himself more confused than anything. "So... Should I just button mash?" He asked trying to equate to other games he had played. He grumbled though. Three strikes was too many to kill a boar. He wanted to get through this quickly so he could move on to the next quest, which hopefully wasn't as luck based. "Is there anyway to kill these things faster? I mean I have a damage potion, but I don't really want to use it on such and early quest you know? Plus with the drop rates being random I should kill as many of these things as I can right?" 

Dan nodded silently as he slowly moved closer towards the boar, his sword level in front of him. He kept his breath even as he slowly moved around the boar waiting for the right moment to attack. The creature squinted it's crimson red eyes at him before it launched an attack at him. Dan was prepared though and battled the creature away before thrusting the tip of his rapier between it's eyes. It let out a defeated squeal before collapsing to the ground and breaking apart into light blue polygons. Dan flourished his blade before returning it to his sheath. He took a few deep breaths before he threw his hands up and shouted in excitement, laughing at his first victory. "Do do do do do do do do do!" He cried singing the victory theme from another game he played. Neither of the boars dropped any of the tusks they needed, but that didn't bother him too much, to awash with the joy of his first victory to care. "Woo hoo!" He exclaimed as he made his way back to Kat. "How did I do?" he asked.

Dan turned his head slightly as he listened to Katagawa's advice. She was right he needed to focus on the battle at hand rather the distractions on the battlefield. Though her second piece of advice bothered him. Even if someone else is struggling, help yourself first. He didn't think he could do that. He understood the value of his own life, but how could he just ignore the plight of others to save his own skin? It wasn't in his nature. He would gladly sacrifice his HP for the sake of someone else. He would disregard that piece of advice for now and focused on the battle at hand. With that thought in mind he took a deep breath and charged at the young boar. The boar charged in return. This was going to be a matter of timing he had to strike at the right time not only to hit the beast but also to make sure he wasn't hit himself. Waiting for just the right moment Dan struck, using the force from his thrust to push away from the creature and avoid it's reprisals.

Dan watched in amazement as he saw Kat preformed another astounding Sword Art. A whole lot of showmanship seemed involved in it but it looked fan-flipping-tastic. "Holy smokes! That was awesome! Can I do one of th- Ergh!" He let out a grunt as he was knocked to the ground as both of the boar pups charged and knocked him down. "Okay yeah that hurt." He grunted as he stood. "My pride it hurt my pride." He took a deep breath and held his blade in front of him. If he could get the one down he could probably deal with the other one swiftly. He went for it. He rushed forwards and feinted to the right before spinning back around to the left as he slashed at it. His blade connected with the monster and with a squeal it shattered into pixels. Dan quickly hopped back before it could strike again and he started celebrating. "Woohoo! First kill!" He shouted excitedly.

Dan let out a snort and let down his guard as she attempted to encourage him. As much as he appreciated her attempts he knew he wasn't doing great. He'd hit the thing only once. Now that wasn't a reason to give up, but he also wasn't discouraged. Something more along the lines of, "Keep it up!" Or, "You can do it!" Probably would have been more appropriate in the situation.  Thankfully he was brought back to his senses, unfortunately it was due to a pup slamming into his shin. He stumbled slightly from the force but thankfully his armor took most of the impact, leaving him with no real damage taken. The poor thing seemed a little dazed though, which left him wide open to Dan's next attack. He slashed at the beast and it squealed in pain and snorted at him as his... Brother probably charged, but the boy was nimble enough to to dodge out of the way in time.

Dan nodded, a slight grin on his face. "Alright thanks." He carefully moved himself around the boars, but rather than vertical he went horizontal, confusing the two. "Hey I thought you said... Oh wait. Horizontal is the... Right." He blushed profusely. Thankfully he was not so distracted as to fail to move out of the way of an attack from both of the pups. He took a deep breath as he held his sword up in front of him and focused. 'Alright, eyes up. They're fast, but you just need to strike at the right time. It's like one of those mini games where the thing slides back and forth and you have to stop it in a specific section... Okay it's nothing like that but still. It's either you squash these guys or they squash you.' "Okay vertical up and down right?" He called to Katagawa, hoping he was right this time.

As Dan swung his blade he severely miscalculated the height of his swing and the amount of power he put behind it, so instead of connecting with the boar pup he just spun in a big circle. This, of course, led to him being dizzy, he held his head for a second as the world spun around him and the pups charged him. The world continued spinning so he wasn't able to dodge out of the way, however, the damage was so minor he took no damage. As his vision cleared he couldn't help shaking his head as he smiled and giggled a little bit at them. "I almost feel bad about killing them. I mean I know they're trying to kill me, but they're so small and adorable!" He squeed. Things were only about 30 centimeters long, covered in dark blue fur, and had tiny little nubs where their tusks were growing in. "I wonder if I'd be able to tame one of these things with that one skill." He asked aloud as he slashed the same boar again.

Dan just stood there for a few moments, his eyes wide and mouth agape in awe.  "Holy smokes." He said finally, his voice barely above a whisper. "That was awesome!" He shouted. "You took all of em out like they were nothing! I mean, for you I'm sure they were but still! That was like the most amazing thing I've ever seen!" He gushed, talking quickly and excitedly. "Maybe I should just have you stand on the sidelines teach, otherwise you'll kill everything in sight." He joked with a laugh. "Come on let's go find more stuff to kill!" He said as he bounded through the forest like an excited child in a toy store. He soon found another pair of pups and unsheathed his rapier. "Alright, so I'll take care of the pups and you'll deal with any adds that show up." Once the plan was confirmed he charged at one of the pups and slashed at its side with his rapier missing completely like a dunce.

Dan smiled at her. "True enough I suppose." He giggled. "I'll happily be your apprentice." He said as he bowed with a flourish, quite over the top and exagerated. He grinned at her as he stood up. "You're certainly right teacher." He said with a giggle. "Let us make haste! Onwards!" He charged into the woods a little ways giggling like a child before he finally focused up, keeping an eye open for any monsters. After waiting for Kat to catch up and walking for a little ways he spotted a clearing and crept in the bushes just out of agro range. He did a quick count, four of the pups there were. He turned to the woman with a small grin. "Well, care to show an apprentice how it's done?" He chuckled, even as he readied his own blade in preparation for the oncoming fight that would surely ensue.

Dan looked over at her, a look on his face that said, "yeah right". "Are you kidding me." He said to her, a grin on his face. "Like I would leave you out of all the fun." His grin widened as they exited the city. "Besides, it'd be kinda weird if you were just following me around and watching me fight. Like a... what's that called." He thought for a second then snapped his fingers as it came to him. "A squire. Yeah, that's what it's called. Anyways, I don't need a squire, I need a friend." He smiled at her as they continued on. "So speaking of by the way, what level are you? If you don't feel comfortable sharing though I completely understand." He knew some people were weird when it came to stuff like that. He was never quite sure why though. He thought maybe people were afraid of being attacked if they were a low level?

Lyle put the package down on a table out of the way, it looked like they were tea leaves or something. "I'm working on an order but it looks like I miscounted the materials before I started." "So you need me to go and gather them for you." Dan interrupted him, slightly irritated that he'd have to go gathering again. The smith erupted with laughter at this. "Eh, not exactly lad. See what I need is three boar pup tusks. Now you can't find those just lyin' about the forest can ya'?" Dan perked up a bit at this. "So you need me to go kill some and collect them for you." Lyle gave him a toothy grin as he slapped him on the chest. "Now yer catchin' on. Now, I'll be needin' three of them tusks. I know there's a group of 'em nests in the forest. I'll mark it on yer map for ya." Dan's quest indicator popped up, directing him towards the forest. "We'll be back in no time Lyle." The boy said as he started to head out waving for Kat to follow. "Aye, quick as you like," Lyle replied as he went back to smithing.

Dan nodded and followed where she pointed and soon found him easily. "Oh, thanks." He said to her. Soon the sound of metal being struck with a hammer filled his ears. He sighed slightly as he heard it. He'd always loved that sound. He quickly entered the shop, the noise now deafening as he stood in front of the man. Lyle saw him but continued to focus on his work, the clang, clang, clang, of his hammer echoing about the workspace. When he was done he dipped the blade into a bucket of water to cool. He took a rag that was sitting nearby and started to mop up the sweat from his face. "Right, how can I help ya?" He said, his voice thick with a Scottish accent. The boy grinned at him. "Well sir, I was just here to deliver-" As he held up the package Lyle instantly snatched it from his hands. "Ahhh it's about bloody time!" He yelled as he ripped the package open to confirm the contents. "I asked Zakariah for these weeks ago." Dan laughed. "Well, he's been busy apparently." "I cannot thank you enough. I could use your help though if you wouldn't mind." Dan just shrugged and nodded. "Sure what is it?"

Dan just shrugged and smiled at her. Smiling seemed to be a permanent state of being for him. "Alright, suit yourself. But if you change your mind the options still open to you." With that, he continued toward Lyle's workshop. "And thanks, by the way." He said. He continued to walk down the winding roads of the down and after a while, he started getting frustrated. "Man why did they make this town so big and these workshops so far." He asked as he kind of slumped over. "I mean if I had to guess I'd say it's probably so you can see all the different places in town? Maybe? I don't know, what do you think Kat?" He asked as he continued to trudged on. He was never a big fan of walking. If the good lord intended us to walk he never would have invented roller skates. He thought, quoting a super old movie.
