  1. I think they all have the chance to get out of here, I am sure that if they found the courage, they could do great things! I am more worries about the children though, so many of them didn’t know what they were getting into… I mean we didn’t either but even less so.

Abel smiled innocently at Cain, then he mentioned that some players had decided to give up

They didn’t give up any more than we did, maybe they just need a push in the right direction, someone to show them that there is still hope. Not everyone has a sibling with them they can rely on.

I didn’t realize Cain was so concerned for the players on this floor. Maybe it will be good to get leveled up so that he knows that we have a chance and if we can do it anyone can, right? It’s no different then when I started with the track and field team in Massachusetts, all of the new guys were intimidated but after one of us started to improve we realized that we really could do this, and we started cheering each other on. We made it a competition at that!

Then Cain got in close to Abel’s ear, Abel bent over so that it was easier for Cain to get his arm around Abel’s broad shoulders. Abel sighed

Yeah, I know we need to preserve our own life’s but you know how hard it is for me to leave someone in need. It just doesn’t sit right. I mean, I got hospitalized for hypothermia when Ol’ Man Braddok passed out in the freezing rain. I carried that man from the beach all the way to the hospital. By the time I got there I had already lost all feeling in my hands and feet. I’ll do my best to put myself first, but I can’t make any promises.

The world is a better place when we don’t put ourselves first. It makes life better for everyone! I can see why he is concerned though; it is hard to help them if we don’t level up.

Well I think its this way… though maybe you should take the lead, I am pretty bad at directions. Abel smiled and put his had on the back of his head in slight embarrassment

  2. It’s a pleasure to meet you!

Oh, is that how you find quests? I didn’t realize there was a separate menu for that, I really should explore that some time. She started walking before I had a chance to respond, I had better start following her, I wouldn’t want to fall behind. She is going out of her way to help me after all. I wonder if she will let me pay her back sometime, though I may need to get to a higher level before I do that. Abel smiled at the cat as he got up from his seated position and jogged up to Violet slowing down to her speed as he got close. I almost feel cramped with how narrow this street is, then again it is not much worse than those small streets in Japan. I did always have a tough time moving through them, I just hope no one will be coming towards us, I might end up hitting them. I’ll just keep an eye on Violet and follow her lead, she seems to know this town far better than I do. Then again, I haven’t ever really been good at directions, I really should try to get better at recognizing landmarks and not getting so distracted as I walk around. That reminds me… Abel was doing well to keep up with her, at least for the time it was just a light jog.

Out of curiosity, what would you like me to call you? Is Violet okay or would you prefer something more formal?

You know, I wonder what dad would have done if he was here. Maybe I can use what he taught me to do well, then again, he wasn’t ever really into video games, or fighting. He just preferred his books. Maybe I can start there though, perhaps there is a library I can find to read up on some of the things that have happened so far. Here I go getting distracted again. I have even less of a clue where I am now then I did before, but at least I am still following Violet I am sure she knows.

  3. I wonder if my notes have anything to h- His thoughts were interrupted as he was approached by someone. Someone who had sat down beside him, she mentioned how he looked lost and easy to take advantage of which made Able laugh, “I don’t think so. I am always happy to help others so as long as its not anything against my morals I don’t think it would be taking advantage of me.” He smiled remembering Ol’ Man Samuel back in America for a moment. “I guess you could say I am a ‘lost puppy’ I’ve been wondering around trying to find the start of the earning a living quest, I have heard there is a master performer around here who can start it. It would be nice to be able to make song crystals to help my brother Cain and the frontlines… once I get there at least. You wouldn’t happen to know the way, would you? I don’t think I have ever been to this part of the town before.” He smiled confidently at the other player and held out his hand. “I’m Able, its nice to meet you.”

Look at that cat, its black as night fur is something to behold. I wonder how she got it, an event maybe? I am probably too late to get one, maybe I will get a chance in the future, I just hope it is not just a one-time event. This woman seems nice, kind of reminds me of good ol’ Bob back in Massachusetts… I really ought to write him a letter once I get out of this game, I am sure he would enjoy all the wacky antics that go on. In fact, it might be a good idea for someone to write a book on their experiences here, I probably couldn’t though, I’m not good enough at writing for that.

  4. Able stood in the middle of the town square absentmindedly, checking his notes. He was mindlessly moving around, not really paying attention to what was going on around him.

I think that somewhere around here is a master performer that should start me on my way to getting a profession. If I become a performer, I don’t only need to rely on first aid alone to heal others. Not to mention the other buff I may be able to give in battle. I wonder if I would be of better benefit to Cain being a performer, after all, I can let him take the spotlight as I sit on the sidelines healing and using songs to help. I wonder what Cain is going to become when he takes this quest… probably a blacksmith, though I could also see him being an artisan. He has always been good with his hands.

Well, I am definitely lost He looked around to attempt to figure out where he was. I don’t think I have ever been in this part of the Town of Beginnings. Those buildings look familiar but then again all of the buildings look familiar here it seems. Is it like this on every floor? Surly not, there must be some variation otherwise this would be a very boring game. That said, if it was super repetitive it would give everyone that much more motivation to attempt to get out of here. He sat against a wall somewhat defeated. I must come up with something right? I can’t just stick here forever. He looked around for a moment but quickly remembered he didn’t have anyone he knew here except Cain, and Cain was probably busy getting stronger on another floor. He took a deep breath in, held it for a moment, and let it out, feeling his muscles relax as he breathed out.

I really need to get better at navigation, or I might find myself outside of the safezone with no idea of how to get home. If only I played more MMO’s when I was in the real world maybe I would be better at this.

  5. There was a ping as a message popped up in front of Able. Reading it Abel smiled. I am glad that Cain seems so eager to join me. It has been a little while sense we have done anything together. We are brothers after all, we should be sticking together in this death game we are a part of. It is going to be nice to have him with me, though I wonder what it would take to get to the top of the charts. On that topic I wonder if there is a chart, it isn’t hard to think that there would be some type of a score board. Though it may be hard to find… what floor are we too anyway? Its 24, right? It is crazy that we have been here for two years and haven’t gotten any farther than 24. Maybe Cain and I will be able to push the line forward, though it is going to take a lot of work to get there. Perhaps I am getting too ambitious with these plans of frontlines. It is always better to set a small goal. I’ll start with being able to partake in combat on floor 11. That wont be too hard.

Able saw a shimmer as the teleporter activated, there before him stood a blond-haired man, someone he both knew very well and didn’t know at all. There he is, now to get this show on the road. We have a lot of work to do.

Cain! It is good to see you bro. How have you been holding up? I think one of the beginner quests is around here. Let’s party up and work our ways to the top!

Able reached his hand forward to give his brother an affirmative handshake and then invited Cain to join his party.

  6. The sun felt nice, that was for sure. Able hadn’t done much exploring sense the game had started. It was hard to believe it had been two years. Two year had been spent cowering on the first floor. Two years had been spent in depression and sorrow at the prospect of his mother waiting for both Able and Cain to come home but never doing so. It was a rough time for him, after all he couldn’t even bring himself to be useful which just made everything worse.

Now will be different he told himself in his mind I will venture out of this town and conquer this game! I cant let all this sadness stop me forever, and now feels like as good a time as any to get out there and make this life mine. After all this game can’t be too hard right? It is not like they expect us to fail otherwise they wouldn’t have given us a goal. Now all I have to do is get to a high enough level that I can assist the players on the frontlines. That won’t be too hard. If they could get there I can too, the only thing stopping me is myself. I should probably get Cain to come and help me though. This will be much more enjoyable if I have my brother with me.

Able opened his HUD to write a message to Cain, he had originally attempted to write the message in Japanese but after a few failed attempts decided to just use English. Able could read, understand and speak Japanese just fine but for some reason he had a hard time any time he attempted to write in it.

    Hey Cain,

I think it is time the two of us started our journey in this world. I think we have waited long enough. I will be waiting by the teleporter pad on floor one. I have heard that there is a group of starter quests near here and I would appreciate the help ;)

Now all I need to do is sit and wait, then we can get started on making our way to the frontlines. I wonder what is like to be on the frontlines…

    Username: Abel

    Real name: Abel Akeley

    Age: 25

    Gender: Male

    Height: 6ft 5in

    About: History/personality

As a boy, Abel grew up in a small home with his father Henry Akeley just inside of Provincetown, Massachusits. As a child Abel always proved to be a kind hearted gentleman, frequently doing whatever was needed from him at the time, even if it impeded on his everyday schedule. He frequently found himself working out in his free time, attending a martial arts dojo nearby. Abel made it a point early on. When he wasn’t helping out the community or spending time working out, Abel could often be found tending to Henry. Henry had been diagnosed with ALS when Abel was 10 years old. At that time Abel wasn't sure how he could help, but nonetheless did everything he could to assist his father.

One day, after Abel had turned 14, Henry passed away due to complications with his illness. It was at this time he was approached by DHS who held him for a psychological evaluation. The next day Abel was reintroduced to someone he hadn't met in a very long time his mother Yuni. Abel had only known about here from stories his father told him and from when he was asked if he wanted to stay in the us or move to Japan when he was twelve. She was a small slender woman, very unlike Henry who was massive. Yuni took Abel with her to Japan where he finished schooling and met a man named Cain who would quickly become his best friend.

In time, Abel graduated. It was when he started his life in college that he was given access to his father's fortune. Unbeknownst to Abel his lineage was tied to a very profitable oil company. By the time his father had approached late adulthood he had decided to step back from running the company himself, instead choosing to live a peaceful life with his son. Learning this brought a tear to Abel’s eye. After all his father had left everything to him, however Abel opted to life quaintly, as his father had done, living in a small house on the outskirts of town, keeping his wealth a secret and never hesitating to help someone in need. At some point he learned that there was a new game coming out called Sword Art Online. The premis intrigued him. He always had an interest in Virtual Reality, but this was on an entirely different level. Excitedly he purchased himself and Cain a nervegear and pre-ordered SAO for the both of them.

    Virtues:

Generous: Abel prides himself on being able to assist others whenever it is possible. Rumor has it he once gave a homeless person his shirt and coat in the middle of a snow storm in order to make sure the man didn’t freeze to death. He also help transport the man to a shelter as at the time the man could barely move due to hypothermia. There was a different time that Abel gave his entire allowance to a classmate who was in poverty when Abel was really young, he inspired his father to donate an unknown lump sum to the child's family.

Reliable: Abel was never known to be late to anything, at least without good reason. Whenever he was asked to do something Abel always strived to make it happen even if it seemed impossible. Not that something seeming impossible ever stopped Abel before, after all he had a knack for making the impossible possible, weather that was a good thing or a bad thing.

Disciplined: Under the guidance of his father and his sensei, Abel learned how to control himself, Never one to be quick to violence, Abel always found that the best route tended to be diplomacy. That is not to say that Abel was wholly against violence, he just preferred alternate routes to ending conflict. He often found himself in the same schedule in his free time always pushing himself to be better

    Flaws:

    Reference: http://darkworldrpg.com/character-flaws/

Self-Critical: Through all the good he did, Abel never did feel that he had fully done everything he could have. After helping the homeless man, Abel felt he failed due to the fact that he didn't ensure the man had a meal. Not to mention all that he wished he could have done for his father, things that were beyond him entirely. It was why he was going into medicine, he wanted to make sure no one had to go through what he did.

Superstitious: Abel, for as strong as he was, never could shake the sensations of needing to do certain things to make sure bad omens didn't follow him. He even did small things like throwing a pinch of salt over his shoulder and eating black-eyed peas on New Year's Day. It could mostly be attributed to his conversations with the local seamen he passed by on the streets. Still they impacted his daily life more than he would otherwise admit.

Nieve: Abel is fairly easy to take advantage of. Having been thrust into a life where he was taking care of the house and his father at such a young age, Abel never really found time to experience a youth as most do. Because of this Abel often finds himself blissfully unaware of when someone is trying to take advantage of him, unless what they are trying to do directly conflicts with his morals.
