[SP-F3] Clothes on my Back (Worn Out Welcome) Complete

Recommended Posts

Drawn by the rumor of free armor from the quest Worn Out Welcome I made my way up to the third floor and found my way to a small armor shop that the guidebook had led me to. I thought how weird it was for a shop to be out here all by itself but then I realized that it made a little more sense. For a shop to be the center of a quest and the rewards being free gear I can understand why it would be a little out of the way. As I walked inside I was slightly put off by how large the shop was. As I looked around I realized that the reason for its size was that it was actually a house for the couple that stood behind the counter. " I would assume that they are Griswold and Hanna" I Said to myself as I approached the counter. As I got closer the NPCs noticed me and raised a hand to greet me.

The master NPC Armorsmiths Griswold, and his wife Hanna, have opened his services to new players of SAO a custom armor shop. He takes orders for no price, but instead asks for materials. That's right. YOU, the player, have to tell Griswold what kind of armor you want. He'll give you the material names and how to get them, and it's up to you to retrieve them.

Entering the shop on Floor 3, you encounter a surly smith and his loving wife. After describing the type of armor you desire (Cloth, Leather, Light Metal, or Heavy Metal) Griswold works with you to determine the right type of material, before sending you on your way to collect the needed materials. Upon returning with the correct materials in the proper quantities, Griswold and Hanna will create your very own set of Uncommon Armor. These materials can be found from fighting a dark elf in the Forest of Wavering Mists.

" Hello I take it you two are Griswold and Hanna? " I asked the couple as I came closer to the counter. The man smiled and said " Yes that's who we are. Would you be interested in some free armor? All you would need to do is gather the materials for me in the forest of wavering mists. There shouldn't be much of an issue there. Save a dark elf who lives within. He is not very apt to let players take things from the forest. What type of armor would you be interested in?" I thought a little bit and decided that I would like a nice simple set of leather armor. " Just a nice piece of black leather armor. With a black stain on the armor that has purple highlights."  He laughed at my detail and said. "Very well I think all that you will need to do is find me a rough hide and a particular purple flower that can be found in the forest. Its called a "Violet Moonflower" They are usually used for potions and things of that kind but in this case I think that we could use it to color the armor to your liking.

" Okay I'll go and find you these materials and then I will meet you back here. I shouldn't be too long." I said as I accepted the quest and Left the little shop in search fot the materials that Griswold wanted me to find. It should be an easy mission. All I need to do is go into the forest of wavering mists and then pick this flower. I also read in the guidebook that in order to get the materials I wanted I would have to fight a dark elf that lives in the forest like what Griswold had said. I will make quick fork of him and take the leather I need to make my armor.

As I got further and further away from the shop I had found My way closer to the forest I needed to go to. I could understand the name of it now that I was here. There were these clouds of fog that glowed a dull white light and drifted around the trees. Not sure if they were ghosts of some sort, or if they were simply just mist I decided to go further into the forest to try and find these materials that I needed. Keeping my eyes peeled for anything that could be of use I saw a strange figure in the distance. I quietly drew Silverlight and Ran through the shadows to attack the figure. As I got closer I could tell that this was the Dark elf that I wanted to hunt down for the materials Griswold had asked for. With Silverlight poised I closed the distance between us and cut him deeply with my blade. Catching him off guard I easily dodged his attempt at an attack.

Having caught the Dark elf off guard I was able to get the first strike off without problem but now that this elf was aware of me andI was definatly in his teritory he had the upper hand. Nervous for what was to come I took a steady breath and readied myself for another attack bringing Silverlight to my side waiting for the best moment to strike. The elf with his blade ready came at me with a strong upperhand slash and I tried to deflect it. Unfortunatly I had very little luck and it hit me hard knocking me down and dealing a considerable amount of damage. As I was down an opening to the Dark Elf's defense was made and as I stood up I lunged the full length of silverlight into the elf's stomach. Strangely torn my the elf's look of fear I couldn't look away as he burst into pieces and disolved into the mist of the forest. I found a small bag of col and the leather that I needed for the quest and added them to my inventory.

I felt kind of strange having killed my first humanoid enemy. Before this all that I had killed were boar.   Those boar were basically pigs that were easy to fight and ripe for the slaughter.  However this was much different then a basic pig when I killed it when I killed him I met his eyes and I saw a fear and loss. Not something that the boar experienced. I stood there in the forest for a moment and asked myself if this game is changing me sure I've killed other humanoid creatures in other games but this one felt so much more real. And instead of killing it with an analog stick or keyboard it was with my own hands of course it's just an NPC that doesn't make me a bad person but the quest required me to do it and that was that. Coming to terms with this I swore to myself that the only people I would kill in this game would be part of the game.  I couldn't imagine actually wending the life of a player and therefore the person in real life. I am not a murderer

I left the spot of where the elf had  dropped its items and continued deeper into the forest to try and find this flower I decided that the best plan of action would be to go as deep as I could into the forest and keep searching for this plant. Looking deep within I stumbled upon a grove that I believe would be the best location for finding this special flower.  The grove I found myself in made me feel as if I was in an enchanted fairytale book. I looked around and saw many different flowers but I needed to make sure I got the right one.

I looked through the grove examining the flowers. There were a lot of golden and blue flowers that scattered the ground beneath me. It was very beautiful and I got distracted from the task on hand. I sat down and began smelling the flowers. after a little while I got back up and kept looking. However all that I saw were more of the same blue and gold flowers. There wasn't a single purple flower in sight. I walked further into the grove trying to find the flower.

Upon moving forward a little more I found that the moon was shining through the trees reflecting its light upon the flowers and the forest floor. I couldn't help but be captivated by the sheer beauty of it all. I noticed that the moonlight seemed to be focusing on one part of the forest floor so naturally I chose to investigate. I kept looking through the patches of flowers in hopes of finding this purple flower but I didn't see any difference in the plants around me.

Still not having any luck finding the Violet Moonflower I had no choice but to keep looking. I got down and decided to look through all the flowers. I looked through them and only found more gold and blue flowers. Sure they were beautiful but I still didn't know where the purple one is. "I don't need these blue and gold ones just give me the damn Purple one!" I yelled out at the world. I really need to find it. I started laughing. How is it that I kill the Dark Elf  in two blows which was supposed to be the difficult part and now I am having so much trouble with the easy part. I just need a dang flower.

Starting to get upset I dug even harder looking at all The flowers but it was nowhere to be seen. Accepting the fact that the Violet Moonflower wasn't here so I got up from this part of the grove and went deeper into the forest. I don't know why but all of the mist that was swirling around the trees wrapped around me and then went in a straight path toward the north and I felt compelled to follow. As I followed the path of mist it brought me to another clearing and I was amazed that this mist led me to it. Up ahead of me on top of a small mound of dirt stood a single beautiful flower.

I saw the flower standing there but I wasn't able to see how to get to it. When I went to reach out and grab it the mist swirled around it and formed a barrier that kept me from picking it. I don't know how but it was able to stop me from even touching it. "That is one strong mist" Coming to the realization that there was more to the mist than being just mist I wanted to try something. I put my hand up to the mist and asked it a simple question " Is it okay if I have this flower I need it for a piece of armor I want to make. It will grow back you don't need to worry."

The mist expanded not wanting me to touch the flower pushed me backward from it. I thought hard how to convince the mist of somehow opening up to me and let me take the flower. I don't know why but the mist did seem to have some sort of a consciousness. I knew it was linked to the flower somehow and I know that the mist doesn't want me to take the flower but what if somehow I can have some of the mist stay in the flower. Then I wouldn't have to get around the barrier.

Putting my hunch to the test I took out my blade and cut the mound of dirt from the forest floor. It worked just as I had hoped. I took the ball of mist and the Violet Moonflower and added them to my inventory, thankful that I finally was able to get together all of the materials I needed for Griswold to make my armor. I had a feeling of accomplishment wash over my body. I started to make my way back to his shop and get started on the crafting process. Sure I am able to put together these materials and get a free piece of armor but that doesn't diminish the fact that I had to work hard to get them.

I followed my way back from where I had come. Backtracking through the forest was a little more difficult than what I had expected it to be. Despite getting a little lost I was able to make my way back to the opening of the forest and I saw Griswold's shop in the distance. I don't know why but I started to feel a little more jumpy than when I had gotten the flower. I was just very excited to finish the quest. I started to think about what enhancement I wanted to have applied to my armor. I racked my brain on what enhancements I would be able to have him put on it. After debating with myself I decided that the best thing I could have at this level would be a little bit of evasion.

Following my way back to their shop I pictured the armor that I wanted in my mind. A simple black piece of leather armor with purple accents. Easy enough. I just hope that I will be able to explain my idea to Griswold. I found my way to the front door of the custom armor shop and opened the door. "Hey Griswold I found the materials that you told me to gather. Now let's get to work on making me this armor." He seemed to be amused by my directness and replied "Okay boy. Now bring them here.

I did as he said and walked up to the counter and took out the items from my inventory. I put the Dark leather as well as the flower onto the counter. The mist still encased the flower and was unyielding to me. I looked at the flower and didn't know what it was that could let us use it. Griswold looked at us and laughed. " Don't worry. I've been around the mist long enough to reason with it."  He reached out his hand and the moment he came into contact with it it disappeared from the flower and dissolved into the air caressing his arm as if he were a close friend.

Dismissing the strange response that the mist had to Griswold I looked at him as he took the materials back to the counter. I was a little confused by his methods but I decided that he probably knew more about what was needed to be done. Laughing he took both materials and mixed them together at his work station the purple of the flower was now visible in the black leather. It looked as it a purple mist had wrapped itself inside the black of the leather creating a two toned crafting material.

Taking the material that he had just formed he looked at me and asked me " So you were wanting a basic set of leather armor? I can craft you one of uncommon quality. What enhancement do you want implemented on the piece?" I looked up at him and answered. " I was thinking that you could give it +1 evasion.Making it so that enemies can hit me less frequently can only be benifitial."  he then said " Okay then I will set to work on crafting it for you." He took the leather to his work station and started hammering away.

Griswold finished his crafting and brought over the finished piece. It is just what I had wanted for him to craft. It is a simple looking Black piece of leather armor, It has swirls of purple throughout the front and back of the armor and the buttons that clasp it together are a dark purple. " Thank you Griswold it looks amazing. I thank you very much for helping me and making me this piece."   He looked at me happily and said " No problem I always like helping newer players. Gooday." I left with my new set of armor glad that I am now able to evade more attacks.
