[SP-F1] Under a Violet Moon [Complete]

Recommended Posts

The night was Loreley's best friend, and the best time to get anything done without interruption. When the rest of Aincrad was asleep, the smartest were awake, taking advantage of the quiet. Loreley made tonight no exception, feeling it was time to head out into the field and collect some more materials for her performances. She didn't feel completely comfortable in her ability to fight much yet, but that didn't stop her from at least exploring the first floor and finding some good loot otherwise. Not to mention wandering around the fields seemed to be good experience anyway, even if gathering was the task. All in all, Loreley needed to grind. And so she went, slipping out into the fields, under a violet moon.

Loreley stole across the fields at a rapid pace, happy to note that even at night the monsters of the game appeared to be active. That meant that when she was more capable she'd be able to farm them for good loot. But she wasn't fighting now, and so she kept a rapid pace. She really didn't want to deal with any other unwelcome visitors looking for an easy target in the middle of the night. And so she had decided to only stop if she saw something that could actually be of use to her. Nothing yet, and so she kept running.

Loreley continued to scan the fields for anything of interest, but between the moonlight being the only provided light and the speed at which she was running, it was honestly difficult to pick up anything of supreme interest amongst the countryside. But Loreley still refused to slow down. Aincrad was a risky place, and she hated the idea of losing the game this early, when she was only just getting started. She'd just have to make do and hope that even in the moonlight something stuck out at her.

Nothing but fields of grassy green. That's all that was going on here. Grassy green fields and lots of boars. Loreley figured to some people this was an idyllic setting, but to Loreley it was just annoying. And so, Loreley decided to make an agility game out of this. It wouldn't help her find any materials, but it would be fun, and it would help her practice her acrobatics, all at the same time. That and it was better than looking at nothing but green as far as the eye could see.

Loreley was ready to begin leaping over boars and doing fun flips and tricks, when she had managed to actually spot something interesting out of the corner of her eye. She came skidding to a stop, and quickly turned on the balls of her feet as she made a dash over to what she had thought she had seen. Sure enough, there was a material hiding away in the dirt. Loreley looked over it, before picking it up and placing it in her inventory with a smile. I suppose they made it so that materials aren't completely hard to spot. So I just have to keep an eye out for the glimmers. Got it.

Satisfied that gathering wasn't going to be an impossible task, even at high running speeds, Loreley decided to start her little agility game. She looked over to the Town of Beginnings, and tried to gauge where around the city she was, and thought about how fun it would be to make a lap around the outskirts of the city, hopping over as many boars as possible along the way. Loreley smiled to herself, and began to run again, hopping over a few unwitting boars to start her little game.

Loreley ran, hopping from boar to boar, trying to keep count of how many she had managed to hop over along the way, though the higher the number got, the less she cared. Occasionally, to change things up with a bit of a flourish she would perform a front flip or a side flip over the boars, smiling as she hit the landings and continued her run. The boars, passive as they were, would only give somewhat confused grunts and squeals at her antics, and that satisfied Loreley just fine. No more glimmers showed on the landscape, so now it was all about training her body while also having a bit of fun.

Loreley had managed to make it, what she figured was 1/4th of the way around the Town of Beginnings when she finally spotted another glimmer out of the corner of her eye. She decided to hop over a few more boars while heading over to it, and smiled as she did a front flip over the last one between her and her goal into a handstand, and walked on her hands over to the glimmer. She held herself up on one of her hands as she swiped the material with the other, before flipping off of her hands and back onto her feet. Ah, night time acrobatics were fun.

Loreley continued on her way again, a bit miffed that even in the middle of the night materials were so scarce in the game. She did suppose that there were loot gathering enhancements for true treasure hunters, so she couldn't fault the game that much. If one really wanted to find materials, then they had to invest, much like anything else in life. Unfortunately for Loreley, she wasn't that type of a person, so she would just have to make do. She also wished that she could actually, you know, kill something. And while that was possible, what was the point without access to the ability to kill lots of somethings? She simply sighed at these thoughts and kept running.

Loreley's little agility game was working to keep her distracted at least, as she kept right along running and jumping. She had managed to make it halfway around the city at this point. Though, she wouldn't have complained about having more distractions in the form of more collected materials. It was not meant to be however. The countryside was practically barren. If not even nighttime is a good time to collect materials, they must just truly be sparse in this game... oh what a world, she mentally complained to herself, trying to just keep herself going without getting deathly bored.

One boar, two boar, red boar, green boar... no wait, that was grass. Things were starting to blur for Loreley. Not only because of her boredom, but also because of her speed. She had long ago lost track of what she was doing, running primarily on autopilot. She had to have been running for what felt like the better part of an hour and had only found two whole materials to speak of. Another hour and she would've cleared the distance around the city, completing her little agility game. She hoped by then she might've found this venture to be more worth it.

One would think, that by traversing the entire circumference of a city, one would be able to find useful things doing so. But that was not the case here in the slightest. Loreley was getting frustrated, to the point that she just about pulled out her dagger and began to try to kill the nearest boar. But no, that would do no good. Rage was not becoming of a woman like Loreley, and she would need to steel herself. The world was not kind, and if she wanted to succeed in Aincrad, as it was in the real world, she would need to work for it. And so she kept running and practicing her leaps, pushing herself ever onward.

Loreley had gotten so frustrated with her lack of materials found that she had almost forgotten she was searching for them to begin with. That is, until she saw the familiar glimmer out of the corner of her eye as she hopped over another couple of boars. She quickly skidded in the dirt and changed direction on the balls of her feet, barreling excitedly towards the source of the glimmer. She smiled and picked up the material, doing a bit of a cartwheel at the excitement of success. She just had to keep going. No matter how difficult things were, she knew she would succeed if she just kept going forward.

The unfortunate thing about sparse success is that the high gained from a success ends up being momentary at best. This was the case, as Loreley found herself quickly bored again as she ran along the outskirts of the city once again. Though Loreley did little driving in the real world, she felt like that's what she was doing. The rolling hills and constant boars putting her to sleep. Even with her leaping and jumping, it was all she could do to keep herself entertained as she went along, ever hopeful that the next hill might hold the glimmer she sought.

Loreley either had no luck, or was just looking in all the wrong places. She considered for a moment that perhaps the reason she was finding so few materials was because she was so close to the city, but a part of her figured that made little difference, especially so late at night, when all the other players wouldn't have cleaned out the area of materials. It was unfortunate, but at least she had managed to find some success so far, so this entire evening hadn't been a complete loss. About 3/4ths of the way around the Town of Beginnings, as she hit the next gate.

Glimmers were all she needed, as she ran along, and one was what she got. She continued to make her way from boar to boar, hill to hill, and she actually spotted a glimmer right in her path for once. Making her way over, she bounced on her feet while scooping it up into her inventory. The way she figured it, five materials would've made for a productive night of gathering, and since she was mostly there, she started to feel less discouraged about the entire situation. And besides, if she kept on, maybe she could actually begin to murder boars on the next go around!

As it turned out, quarter four of her run was where all the materials were hiding. It had only taken the better part of an hour and a bunch of whining and complaining in her head to actually make this trip worthwhile. Although she had been having quite a bit of fun with her little game of hopping over boars, so she supposed she couldn't complain too much. That aside, she found another material on the next hill over, only just having barely started her run again. She did a cartwheel over it to pick it up and continued on her way, hopping over the next three boars in her path.

Honestly, Loreley had probably gotten herself too hyped up about the idea that this last stretch of floor would contain nothing but materials. She sighed as she went quite a good distance, finding no glimmers at all, and gave an annoyed sigh. Another boar here, and another boar there, another hill here, and another hill there. Loreley just made her way, trying her best to think about the fact that she had met the little goal she had made for herself. That was the important thing.

Loreley had finally finished her little lap around the Town of Beginnings, as she reached the North Gate where she had started. She had almost wished she had had a timer so she could've known how fast she had been. But honestly, it would've been far slower than she would've liked to have actually gone. Even if the Town of Beginnings was very large and took the better part of an hour or two to run a full lap around. But that was okay, perhaps Loreley would make that her training regimen. She was delighted that as she reached the gate there was a glimmer, practically waiting for her, almost as if to say, "Congratulations! You completed your little agility game!" Loreley smiled at it and scooped it up, triumphant.

Loreley looked out to the horizon as she realized that the sun was beginning to rise. It was time to head back to the inn for another day of rest, and then it would be back out again at night to do whatever else Loreley felt like doing later on. Probably boar killing. After hopping over so many tonight, she desperately felt that some of the annoying little creatures needed to die. Yes, that was a good plan. Kill a bunch of boars. Happy with the thoughts of her next adventure, she shoved her hands into her pockets and walked back into the Town of Beginnings to find an inn and get some much needed rest after all her running.
