After a nice long rest following his first quest on Floor Nine, Brax found himself once again viewing the quest board at the center of Vulcan.  The metal slab contained several players asking for assistance here and there, mostly fetch quests that were intended to help them party up to level on the heated floor.  A few were more the fare of Cardinal, though, much like the Bandit Camp quest he had just completed.  One he was looking at in detail, though, came from the Brokers themselves, and it asked for players, whether they be alone or in a party, to hunt down an Iron Guardian.  Intrigued by the offer, Brax found the location of the Info Broker who offered the quest and made his way to find them for more details.

The Broker was sitting in one of the more...luxurious taverns in Vulcan, sipping at a fruity concoction when Brax walked in and spotted him relaxing after a long day of info gathering.  The Stalwart Stoic was...almost eager to get ahold of whatever rumors the man had to give regarding the quest, and thus strode up to the bar swiftly and surely, sitting next to him and beginning his barrage of questions: "Hello.  I...am Brax.  You are the one...who placed the quest for defeating an Iron Guardian?  I am here to accept, though the offer was...unclear on several points.  Can you provide more intelligence?  If I am to accept, I...will need every bit of what your...skill...has gathered about the Field Boss."  "So, you wish to accept my quest, hmmm?"  The Broker eyed Brax up and down, taking in the measure of his character with but a single glance.  The look he gave the armored man was one of skepticism and suspicion, but Brax was not able to glean those emotions off of the Broker's eyes as he was...lacking in empathetic skills.  All Brax saw...was a calculating man that was sizing him up.  Turning to finish his drink, the Broker continued, saying "Very well, you'll do.  Two days west of Vulcan lies a city of iron, much like the one we're in now.  One of Vulcan's builders constructed the place after being kicked out of the city for...shall we say, very 'innovative' ideas.  He wanted to give life...to metal.  Yes, you heard right," the Broker said, as Brax's eyebrows raised slightly in response to the comment.  "The 'inventor', which was his title, wanted to bring metal objects to life, make robots and the like.  Hard to believe in a game like this, but he apparently succeeded.  The place is populated by creatures of iron, from beasts to more human-like creatures, and is presided over by the Iron Guardian, the Field Boss in question.  To rule over it's kin, the Guardian possesses the Banner of Support, a rare and powerful object that can heal members of a party quite well.  As you can imagine, the Banner is wanted by many for it's usefulness.  If you can obtain it, I am willing to pay a hefty sum.  But be warned: the Guardian will not give up it's treasure lightly.  It will be protected, most likely by other metallic creatures like the humanoids I mentioned earlier.  Also,"  and with this, the Broker looked at Brax straight in the eyes, "I do not deal with traitors well.  If you try to betray me and keep the Banner...well, it won't be pretty.  Do I make myself clear?"  Turning back to his drink and finishing it off, the Broker waited for Brax's answer.  "No need to worry, Broker.  I am a man of my word.  When I take up a quest, I see it through to the end.  If those are your terms, I accept the job.  Where can I meet you once I have finished?"  "Okay then.  I will meet you just outside of town, four days from now.  You had better come alone, or there will be consequences.  Good luck."  There business concluded, the Broker left the tavern, most likely to do his job.

Brax was...perturbed by the Broker's responses, but a task was a task, and he needed the EXP.  And, the chance to fight another Field Boss was not something he wished to pass up.  So, after he had made his preparations, Brax left the city of Vulcan and headed west towards the city of iron where the Guardian lay.  The time passed swiftly, with very little in the way of monsters along the path.  Those he saw he was able to avoid, and at night the stoic was able to find decent enough shelter for resting purposes.  Finally, not far from the iron urban sprawl where he would find his prize, Brax ran into the first iron creatures that presumably stood watch over the outlying areas.  They were strangely constructed beasts, similar in design to dogs, but metallic and rusty in places as if from a lack of maintenance.  Their roars were disquieting, like metal rasping on metal as they charged at the heavily armored man.  Reacting as he would against a more fleshy foe, Brax set his axe in position and let loose with an Explode Catapult, ripping through the mob with devastating force.  The metal dogs were torn asunder by the force of his blows, and left behind several screws as they disappeared into pixels, in addition to some decent loot.

Quest Name - The Iron Guardian

Location - Floor 9

Requirements for completion:

- 21 Post Count Minimum

- Players MUST defeat X amount of <<Iron Knights>> (X being 1 per player)

- Player(s) MUST defeat the <<Iron Guardian>>

- Player(s) MUST defeat the Broker

Recommended Level - 30

Background Information - Player(s) encounter a broker who claims they will tell them the location of a powerful field boss in return of an item that it drops. The field boss that the broker speaks of lies approximately two days west with a few monsters here and there to fight to actually reach the designated location. The boss is claimed to drop a consumable item that has the power to provide an entire team a healing effect that reaches up to a party of four at a time, so perfect for boss raids.

Quest Objective - Player(s) must head West in order to try and find this boss. They must fight <<Iron Knights>> along the way in order to prepare them for the ultimate boss fight against the <<Iron Guardian>>, or so the broker says anyways. In order to complete the quest however, players must meet a few requirements in order to end the quest. The Broker must be killed one way or another. It is up to the player if they wish to attack them first for the item, then when killed, they become a player killer, OR they can have the broker attack first. This adds a special element of variety to everybody's threads as you can choose how it goes. Either way, the broker needs to be fought as well.

If the player chooses to return the item, then the Broker will think that the player/party is trying to lead him into a trap, where he will be killed and stolen from, in fear, he will then retaliate by attacking the leader of the party first, and then the fight continues normal from there on.

Enemy Information -

<<Iron Knight>>

HP - 72

Damage - 30, Bleed on 9 or 10 for 2 turns dealing 1 damage.

Thorns - Deals 2 Damage To Enemy if hit.

<<Iron Guardian>>

HP - 225

Damage - 54, Bleed on 9 or 10 for 2 turns dealing 4 damage.

Thorns - Deals 4 Damage To Enemy if hit.

<<Mysterious Broker>>

HP - 150

Damage - 50, Paralyze on 9 or 10 for 1 turn.

Battle Healing - Heals 13 HP For Every 10 On Broker's Crafting Dice.

Rewards:

~ 1 Skill Points upon first completion.

~ (Given To Quest Party Leader) Banner of Support - This item has (3) charges and may only be refilled by asking a merchant to refill it costing 750 Col per charge. This item does not stack and may not be sold for Col, it becomes bound to the player. When used, the Banner of Support heals up to 4 players, including the user, a maximum of 20 HP. Once used, the Banner of Support changes from a red to a gray color and begins to go on it's 10 turn cooldown.

After facing the first lines of defense for the city of iron, Brax knew that he would need more power than he currently had to bear.  Strength, protection, vision and skill beyond the capabilities he could achieve at the moment.  It would have been better if he had come at the quest later, perhaps after he had leveled up and trained himself more, but there was no turning back now: he would just have to believe his consumables would be enough to keep him alive.  As he thought this, Brax pulled several of his inventory items out to prepare with, the first being a Potion of Strength.

Brax consumed the liquid as he walked, feeling the raging energy surge through his veins for a time, until all that was left was an added power to his hands and arms, the better to cut down the metallic foes he would face.  As he traipsed through a ruined forest of trees cut down to fuel the forges of the inventor's metal fortress, he took out another potion and drank it too, one of protection this time, and felt his skin and bones harden like the stoic expression he was forced to wear at all times.  It make him feel more invincible, though that was just a physiological response rather than a mental one.

Finally, under a cloud covered sky and as he exited the forest to behold the dull gleam of the boss's lair, Brax consumed one more object before engaging the guards that stood before him at the gate leading into the city.  He popped a Carrot Tab to increase his eyesight, so that his hands would be swift and sure in their attacks, for against metal monsters such as these Brax would need every help he could get to strengthen his chances to succeed.  That Banner would be his, no doubt about it.

The guards were just as the Broker had mentioned, Iron Knights gleaming in the red rays of the sun overhead.  Their armor was rusted but sharp, ill-maintained but still good enough to hold them together.  In their grips they held battered swords and dented shields, weapons that looked more like they would bash foes due to dullness rather than cut them down.  The Knights clanked and shuddered as they stood watch over the decaying location, turning empty gazes to the oncoming intruder and shambling forth to protect their charge.  Feeling the effects of the consumables swirling within him, Brax dealt with the metal men with swift and practiced ease.  Running forward and ignoring the blows they rained upon his heavily armored frame, he unleashed his Explode Catapult upon them, his axe tearing through their armor as if it were paper.  As he did, he felt two sharp shocks to his system as the rust from the swords and their bodies affected him in some way, but already in the throes of his Sword Art Brax chose to ignore the sensation for the time being.  Dropping the hammer down, the final shockwave of his attack vibrated the Knights to pieces, the ensuing rumble shaking the city as well with it's power.

Brax 80/92 [4 DMG from Bleed, 1 turn left]

Brax stood from the engagement and did an assessment of himself to see what the rust had done to him.  Checking his status window, he saw that the Knights had possessed two unique abilities that he had failed to notice, or perhaps chosen to ignore.  The rust that they were coated in, that he had thought were from disuse, were actually designed as forms of damage dealing and protection by causing thorns damage to aggressors and bleed damage should the Knights land a good hit.  As he discovered this fact, Brax felt his life slightly drain away from the applied bleed condition.  But, since it was so weak, the stoic ignored the effect and continued on.

Entering the dilapidated gate, Brax beheld the oxidized ruins of the inventor's pride and gem The Iron City.  The place was...definitely not a tourist destination, rusted structures and broken down robots as far as the eye could see.  Nothing populated the town save for busted metal creatures, and many if not all of those were inactive from disrepair.  Thinking that perhaps he could find some useful materials from a thorough search of the place thanks to all the metal lying around, Brax reaching into his inventory and took one last consumable, one of his chocolate bars, to aid in his treasure hunting.

His searches turned up nothing useful, though, because the ruined robots seemed to have been scavenged for spare parts.  Bits and pieces were missing from every creature he looked at, from motors and gears to armor plating and weapons.  Brax considered the riddle and concluded that those metal beasts that remained operational...must have scavenged their kin to maintain themselves, cannibalizing the others in order to survive.  A terrible fact, but quite logical and sound a practice to the unfeeling man.  He continued to search to streets as he made his way deeper into the city looking for the Field Boss's location.

Crossing into the heart of the city Brax saw that this area was kept up with better than the rest, as the buildings looked newer and the roads much cleaner.  He concluded that this must be where the Iron Guardian maintains itself and the others that survived, and that he would probably find much tougher Iron Knights in attendance given the conditions he was observing.  He was not surprised, then, when marching along those well kept streets was another group of Iron Knights polished and gleaming as they patrolled the area with their mechanical gaze.  They were a more stylized variant of the ones he had encountered before, with stronger looking armor and more dangerous looking swords.  However, much to Brax's delight if he could feel such things, the rust that had caused him trouble before was notoriously absent from the metal men.  He would not have to worry about any sort of surprises from these warriors of alloy and fire, only the sharp edges of their blades and the power of their arms.  Taking the lead, Brax charged the mob with his axe at the ready, Explode Catapult prepared for maximum destruction.  The Sword Art tore into the Knights before they could move or react, their well designed bodies torn asunder by the two strikes and shockwave that followed.  As he stood frozen from the after effects of his attack, Brax saw more loot drop from the metallic automatons, and once he recovered he collected his prizes, which included a rare set of Protection potions.

He took a look at the loot before putting it in his inventory.  Turning it over in his hands, Brax saw that he finally was able to obtain some tier two items, but unfortunately for him, his level was not yet high enough to utilized the stuff.  Putting the potions away, he rededicated himself to obtain that level up soon, knowing that he was very close to achieving the goal.  He had also commissioned several tier two gear from Ishida and the Midnight Armory, knowing that once he reached level 25 he would need the pieces almost immediately to continued his upward momentum.  Perhaps after this he would check the place to see if they were ready.

But, until then he had a mission to accomplish.  The Iron Guardian was not very far away, or at least that was what Brax assumed.  Passing the shining and aesthetically pleasing buildings, he searched for one that would undoubtedly hold the Field Boss itself.  Applying logic, Brax continued down the streets in search of the most well maintained structure in the city, concluding that the Iron Guardian would keep it's immediate surroundings in perfect working order.  It was only logical that a robotic creature would keep pristine conditions for it's own optimum operating status.

And so it was, that when Brax reached the center of the iron fortress he saw a gleaming metal building akin to a workshop open to the outside air.  Various shelves held iron plates and giant tools, mechanical marvels to build the most exquisite pieces known to man and monster alike.  Conveyer belts and mechanized arms stood unpowered, lacking the energy to carry their half-finished products to completion.  The studio was immaculate, as clean as a whistle as if someone...or something...was still living there and keeping up with construction and repairs.  That someone was standing in the center of the large room, a red flashing eye turning to regard Brax's intrusion.

Iron Guardian 105/225 [10 x 12 Dynamic Violence] = 120 DMG

The metal behemoth stood two stories tall, shining brightly in the evening sun.  The setting orb streamed across the Field Boss's body, painting it blood red and intensifying it's already fearsome appearance.   With a single red eye looking out from a helm of iron and chrome, Brax could tell the creature would be one of the most fearsome of beasts he had ever faced, greater than any of the bosses encountered before.  It's large iron arms held the promise of power should they manage to connect with his own armored frame, and tree trunk sized legs began to carry the Guardian towards the intruder with a slow yet purposeful gait.  Raising a heavy iron fist high in the air, it brought the hammer down hard and fast to crack and warp the metallic street beneath them and end Brax's life, had he been there to strike.  But, with a speed practiced by countless hours in the fields hunting down faster prey, Brax avoided the blow and let loose with one of his own.  His weapon glowed green with power as he charged up the Sword Art Dynamic Violence, and once he reached critical mass unleashed it on the metal giant.  Three swings of his axe connected with the Iron Guardian's right leg, cutting deep into the alloy and causing sparks to fly from within the appendage.  Finally, his forth swing hit empty air and released a wave of equal power which he had aimed for the Boss's torso, knocking the Guardian on it's heels and dropping it to it's knees.

The power of his attack had left the Iron Guardian at less than half health, but unfortunately for Brax the after effects of his Sword Art took hold, freezing him in a compromising position.  As the giant recovered, it stumbled a little on the extremely damaged leg before regaining it's balance, and after again training it's gaze on Brax lifted the left arm to hit him with all the power it could muster.  Thus, the stoic was unable to avoid the slow counterattack and was violently thrown backwards more than 30 feet into another building, which collapsed around him in devastating fashion.  As Brax lay in the broken ruin of twisted metal, he could see the Iron Guardian began to lumber it's way towards him slowly but surely.  Before it could get too far, however, the massively damaged leg crumpled beneath it, driving the automaton to the ground and halting it's progress.  Brax took advantage of the moment, getting up out of the wreckage and advancing himself with weapon drawn and Sword Art ready.  The power of Dynamic Violence again ripped into the fallen robotic monstrosity, this time hitting square in it's chest with all four strikes.  The final wave blew a hole through the Iron Guardian's center, leaving sparks and gears exposed to the setting sun and the elements of the floor.  The red eye blinked once, twice, and a third time before dimming completely, and then the Field Boss exploded into crystal particles that washed the battlefield in it's light.

As the 'Quest Completed!' window blinked into existence above him, Brax assessed his physical condition and found it to be acceptable.  The Guardian was strong, but with the help of his consumables the stoic was stronger still.  Another window popped up detailing his rewards, and after accepting the Banner of Support that was the item required by the Broker, Brax decided to move out and find a place to rest away from the city of iron.  Not that he felt afraid of the city at night, rather that he did not wish to fight anymore metal men after the beating he had taken.  He needed rest, not action, to sooth his weary body.

Outside of the city he found a decent grotto to reside in, taking shelter for the night and waking up refreshed in the morning to begin the long trek back to Vulcan with his prize for the reward promised by the Broker.  Brax idly wondered as he traversed the ruinous landscape what the reward would be, other than the experience he had gained completing the quest itself of defeating the Iron Guardian.  Was it treasure, like col or materials, or would it be information, possibly of a rare spawning point for a dungeon or another boss?  Whatever the reward, Brax was ready to return to the lower floors, as he was almost ready to get his new gear and move onto the next task, which was to reach level 25.

Another day and night passed before Brax reached Vulcan and the promised rendezvous point for the Broker and himself.  As he approached, the stoic saw the Broker waiting for him relatively...impatiently? he believed, if he was interpreting the tapping foot and crossed arms of the cloaked man.  The exasperated individual saw Brax coming, and loudly said "Where have you been?  I've been waiting for hours!  What took you so long?!?!?"  Unaccustomed to the tone the Broker was using, Brax responded saying, "Forgive me, the job...took longer than expected.  But, the metal city was where you indicated, and I have retrieved...your prize.  Now, about my reward..."  He let the statement trail off, allowing the Broker to dictate was Brax was to receive.

Information Broker -14/150 DEAD [10 x 12 Dynamic Violence - 38 MIT] = 82 DMG

Brax couldn't believe his ears: how sad...that a man couldn't trust another to fulfill their end of an agreement, no matter what was said.  He had been betrayed before, but not when his life was on the line, only in regards to his...pride, such as it was, and his heart, what little he possessed of it.  This...was untenable.  This was...not to be stood for.  This was...unacceptable!!!  His body began to shake with inner fire, the betrayal radiating outwards like flames engulfing his virtual body.  The Broker had turned not seeing what was occurring as he began to ready more attacks.  The heat burned away the remaining time left on the paralytic venom, freeing Brax's frozen frame and giving him the chance to satisfy his desire for justice and...retribution.  Charging forward and roaring at the top of his lungs, the normally stoic man set up another Dynamic Violence on which he placed everything of his: heart, mind and soul, all that he possessed to give power to the attack.  As the Broker turned to see what the commotion was about, Brax hit him with the incredibly charged blow and with four forceful strike tore the Broker into four separate pieces and used the final wave to knock those pieces into the stratosphere.  The last Brax saw of the Broker was a look of utter shock in his eyes before his virtual body was blown sky high, where his pixels mixed with the late morning clouds and was...never seen from again.

Tired from the betrayal and worn out from the expulsion of his feelings regarding it, Brax did not even think to contemplate the fact that he had actually felt something, opting instead to deal with the issue later in the day or perhaps tomorrow after a nice long rest, and maybe a stiff drink as well.  Trudging back to the city of Vulcan was all he could think of as he exited the makeshift battlefield.
