A Simple Test [SP-F3]

Recommended Posts

Darius had just gotten his new shield, <Aegis>, and was eager to see what it was capable of. Alongside his new shield, he was borrowing a helmet until his perfect items were done. It would do for now, but until he got his full set of gear he would be unable to move any further, as the monsters' damage on higher floors would beat his mitigation. He would be content with the third floor, for now. Gazing over its massive prairies and fields, he strode forth. The sun shone bright, on this crisp, cloudless day. It was not too warm, but not too cold. His set of armor was mismatched as he didn't have all of its pieces yet. Where, before, Darius would avoid enemies when he adventured, he now adventured looking for some. He found a group of three boars idling in a field full of flowers. He engaged them readily!

When he found the boars in the open prairie they had no inclinations to not charge him. Stampeding his way, squealing like the pigs they were, they made out to crush him under their hooves or gore him with their tusks. Snarling at the beasts, as he himself was a beast for the time being, he charged them too. This was what he was meant for, being little more than an animal. He was meant to fight, to kill, or to be killed. It was all there was to it. This was life in its purest, most beautiful form. Life away from reality where you lived a dull, depressing existence. This was joy.

[AFTER ROLL REACTION:] While they charged towards Darius, Darius thought that it would be better to avoid being trampled by the four, instead side stepping and striking one of the four hogs in a weak spot, dealing a critical.

Ironically, Darius didn't want to hit them at all, and instead wanted them to hit him, yet the game prevented him from doing so. It seemed that if he just stood in the same place and tried to let enemies hit them, they wouldn't. Yet, when he fought, they would try their hardest to kill him, instead killing themselves off of his thorns. This world was so silly, or so he thought so as he tossed himself at the boars again.

[AFTER ROLL REACTION:] And as they charged each other, Darius again managed to strike the same boar as before, but before being buffeted by each of the boars tusks. Each of the beasts took damage from his thorns. but Darius took damage from their attacks likewise.

-4 to Darius' HP(8dmg-12mit=-4dmg. Each enemy must deal at least 1dmg. -4HP)
-13 to Boars' HP (-13 to All Bandits' HP (18dmg-5mit=13dmg. -13HP)
-1 to Boar 1's HP (2dmg-5mit=-3dmg. Attacks must deal at least 1dmg)

The boars snorted and squealed at Darius, angered by the fact that they took damage. They did not know that they were outclassed, unfairly, by someone at a higher level returning to this floor to crush them for their valuable materials. Darius did not even care that he preyed on such weak enemies. It was what he needed to do until he could get the other two pieces of his equipment. His shield and his mace were all that he had now, along with the borrowed helmet, and with them, Floor Three was the highest he could go safely. When he had the rest of his equipment, he could go higher. The boars charged, tearing Darius from his thoughts as he had to dodge their frenzied attacks, not getting a chance of his own to strike.

This was like a bull ring. Simply side step the angry mob of boars coming at you and try to get a hit in every now and again. It was odd though. The only real way Darius could do them damage was by letting them hit him, yet when they came at him he had the instinctual sense to dodge their charge, almost as if it was his real-world sense of self preservation trying to bypass the parameters of the game that wouldn't let him die from such a small amount of damage, which would normally kill in real life. Not that instincts were a totally bad thing, as they would help against stronger enemies, but they hindered him now, as he dodged the charge once again.
