Eclipse was starting to feel useless to those around him. He really just sat around and watched, or waited, for those around him to do things. So, he decided to start trying to make stuff. Namely, leather. He was going to try to make leather. He knew it took animal hide, and liquid. Or something like that. He grabbed an animal hide that was hanging off the back of a hunters caravan. There. Next, he filled a basin with some water, and started dipping the hide down into it. By the game's mechanics, it should just poof into leather, right?

 

Wrong. He just had wet hide. Useless. But his efforts weren't for naught. He was awarded with his efforts by attracting an npc tailor over to him. "Hey, son. You trying to make leather?" the unnamed person asked Eclipse as he was trowing the hide away. The npc was greeted with a startled expression, and a jump away from him. "Whoda-!" he exclaimed as he jumped away from him. "Who are you?" he asked the character, and got a small nod in response. "Brigindold. My name is Brigindold."

The young player was kinda dumbstruck. Here he was, talking to an npc. One who seemed to know something about making leather, as well. Which was lucky for him. "So, Bridgindold, tell me. Why did you approach me?"

 

The npc chuckled and pointed at the soaked hide. "Thats why. You seem to be needing some help here, novice. Plus, I wanted to find out who stole my hide!" the man said with a laugh.

Eclipse paled at the last quip from the man. He had been caught! A sheepish look on his face, he began to chuckle nervously. "eh heh heh heh, yeah... sorry about that. I'm a bit poor, so i couldnt buy it myself."

 

The older man only laughed and patted Eclipse on the back. "Oh, I forgive you. I'll even teach you to be a real tailor, too!" he said with a smile. He patted Eclipse on the back and began to leading him to the edge of the safezone.

The old man grabbed Eclipse's arm and more or less dragged him to the field near the town, where many wild animals were. "What do you think you are doing?!" Eclipse said, more or less panicking. He hadn't ever left the safe zone, so he was quite worried about it.  "Go out and start searching for materials, so that I can show you the works. Got it?" The man said, and tossed him into the field. 

 

Eclipse sighed and began to search the ground for usable material.

Eclipse sighed as his search didn't bear any fruit. "Keep trying!" the older male cheered him on.

Eclipse continued to search the field for usable materials. He didn't really know what they would actually look like yet, but he hoped that he would know it when he saw one. Hopefully. But his hopes couldn't be confirmed until he actually found one. Which he hasn't yet. Maybe the next few minutes would change that.

He was kinda feeling dejected, given that he wasn't finding anything yet. "This is stupid!" he called out to the man, who continued to cheer him on. "Oh, don't be such a baby. Keep going. You'll find some soon."

Eclipse continued to walk around, going a bit further from the trainer then he had been earlier. He still didn't know a rock from a material. Hopefully that wouldn't come back to bite him in the rear later on down the road. Or the field, as it were.

He had failed. Again. Seems that this wasn't his strong suit. "God dang it. Come help me!" he called out to the man, who shook his head and laughed all the louder. Maybe this was punishment for stealing the hide from his cart...

Eclipse groaned as the task of searching was beginning to really get boring to him. He really started to question the true motives of the tailor who was gonna be teaching him. it had to be a punishment. He must have picked this area clean already, and sent him here just to mess with him...

Eclipse grunted in frustration as he continued to fail in finding any materials. Nothing at all. Maybe he should steal some more from other caravans, just out of spite for his mentor. That'd show him to mess with Eclipse. He wasn't some ragtag riffraff. He was a member of the Xerxes family! He had power! At least, he used to...

The boy continued to search, even though he was losing hope. It seemed beyond pointless. There wasn't even any animals in the field. So why would there be materials for crafting there? None at all. It was barren. And even if there was, he couldn't fight for crap yet. A random animal could be the death of him, anyways. And he wasn't ready to die. Not now, not ever.

Eclipse found what he thought was a material, holding it aloft with a huge smile, only to have it melt away when his tutor shook his head. Turns out he didn't know a material from a shiny rock. Called it.

Eclipse threw the false mat in frustration and annoyance. How dare it get his hopes up. But the fake mat landed near something shiny. Maybe THIS was a material. An elusive material. The legends say that they were able to be found just lying around, but he didn't know if he could truth those legends or not. Legends tend to lie, after all. And young Eclipse wasn't too keen on lies.

Turns out it was a piece of shiny rock. Useless. He picked it up and threw it away as hard as he could. "FRUUUUUUUCK!"

He sighed as he tried to calm himself. Maybe, if he stopped hating it, the game would reward him? Wishful thinking, but he was basically done at this point. He was so upset with himself, that he couldn't do something so simple as find freaking material, so he could make items . He couldn't even craft a simple shirt, or scrap of cloth. He was basically nothing but dead weight to all of those out there risking their lives on the front lines. He halted his train of thought so he could calm down.

He sat down on the ground. He was done. He needed to calm himself before he rage-quit on this stupid endeavor entirely. He was pretty much disgusted with this whole thing.He couldn't help but feel useless to everyone around him. He couldn't even find a stupid material, how could he expect to get a shop of his own? Let alone a tailor. He needed some sign of hope.

Eclipse put the mat into his inventory, and started to spiral outward from his sitting spot, hoping to find some more in the general area.

"Lets go to another field" his mentor said, and they two of them walked off to another field to search in that one.

Eclipse stopped his mentor partway, and sighed. "Look. I have one material. Show me how to craft, please?" he asks him, looking him dead into the eyes. His mentor nodded and pulled out his own mat, one he must've found while Eclipse was searching, and opening the crafting menu, making a leather tunic. "Now you try."

 

Eclipse sighs as he takes his lonely material and opens the crafting menu, praying that it will turn out well.

A massive gin appears on his face as the material morphs into a jacket. A black jacket. "Whoa!" he said as he put it onto himself. It was really soft and warm, as well. "This is great!"

Eclipse was ecstatic as he began searching the new field for more materials to fund his future shop.

He began to go in the spiral pattern again, starting in the very center of the area, so he could cover the whole thing.

Eclipse started to get a little bored again, the novelty of crafting the black jacket wearing off a bit as he kept looking for those mats.

Luckily, he found a second material in his searches. So this wasn't a punishment from his tutor. He really wanted Eclipse to become a real tailor. (+1 mat)
