[F3-SP] Is it a fruit? <<Search for the Hoya>>

Recommended Posts

Finding himself on Floor 3, Nikodemus was loath to be here. He had been here once to get some armor from an NPC, and the quest he had to undertake wasn't a hard one, but he had encountered random spawned mobs, and in the ensuing fight, he had lost a grip on his sanity and ended up in a ball, weeping for a long time. With a sigh, he looked at the info broker sheet he had gotten and read through it again. Rumor was that an item known as the <<Hoya of Minos>> was hidden within the Forest of Wavering Mists. The item was sought after by many, and Nikodemus assumed it would be a good idea if he obtained it. The only thing in his path were the Guardians of Minos Tomb, and the Forest itself. Deciding to head off, Nikodemus prepared himself, equipping his armor, shield, and sword. He was not going to be reckless this time, and he was going to make it through without incident. Leaving the safezone,  Nikodemus began the trek into the Forest, ready to search for the tomb.

All who trek in the search for this jewel beware the denizens of this forest, the twin level 10 Minotaur's awaiting on opposite entrances of the tomb, and the maze the forest itself creates. Making his way through the Forest of Mists, Nikodemus kept himself oriented well, having braved the forest once before and knowing it had the tendency of causing players to loop around in circles or become lost in it's maze like trails. As he moved, he listened to the air for any noises. The sounds of feet, leather or metal armor scraping against branches, darts being loaded into slings, or other sounds denoting Mobs nearby. Hearing nothing but his own breath, Nikodemus continued onward. His pace was normal, but cautious, and his axe was gripped tightly in his hand. Coming to a branching path, Nikodemus cursed loudly and wondered which path would be the correct one. Grumbling angrily, he began to preform Eeny Meeny Miney Moe.

Having chose one of the paths, Nikodemus began to head down the branching trail. Keeping his wits about him, he grumbled hatefully about being in the forest again and wanting to be home. With a sigh, Nikodemus kept his axe at the ready and prepared for anything to come his way. Scanning the Forest, Nikodemus made sure he didn't stumble into any mobs. He could only hear the innate sounds of the forest, leaves falling to the ground, twigs snapping beneath his feet, wind in the trees. After a moment, Nikodemus realized he had looped around and found himself back at the branched path. With a curse, he started down the next path.

Having went down the second path, Nikodemus wasn't moving for long until he came to another branch. With a hateful  curse, Nikodemus once more performed Eeny Meeny Miney Moe. Choosing a path, Nikodemus went down it and followed the trail. Grumbling as he did, he looked around the area and scanned left and right, looking for anything that would harm him. With a sigh, he came to a clearing and stopped before the trail. Once again he had somehow looped back to the first branch. "This.... is ridiculous." With another curse, Nikodemus went down the correct path. Coming to the second one, he chose the second untraveled path and made his way.

Having selected the newest path, Nikodemus made his way down it and came to another split. With a curse, he just turned and went down a random path. After walking for nearly 10 minutes, Nikodemus was worried he was going to come back in full circle. With a hateful feeling, Nikodemus stopped for a moment and began to debate with himself whether turning back would be better than moving forward. After a moment, Nikodemus decided the only way was forward. Continuing on, he came to a clearing and broke through the foliage of the Forest. Looking out, Nikodemus realized he was standing a few hundred feet from the Tomb of Minos.

With a new feeling of happieness, Nikodemus began to run towards it, then stopped as he saw a beast standing before the door. It stood nearly 10 feet tall and was twice as broad as Nikodemus. With a shudder, he looked it up and down. It was humanoid in most respects, but the it's legs were hairy and it had cloven hooves. It's head was also not human. It was the head of a bull. Twin long horns protruded from it's crown, and it's muzzle was also covered in thick leather hide with light fur along it. In one hand was a large straight sword, in the other a shield the size of a door. With another curse, Nikodemus shook his head. "Too good to be true..."

Deciding to not take many chances, Nikodemus charged in with his axe. As he got near the <<Hoya Minotaur>>, he leapt into the air and brought his axe down, glowing a sickly emerald color, and split the beasts hide open. With a large bloody gash in it's body, the beast roared and tried to swing, but Nikodemus was already on the ground and moving backwards to put some distance between himself and the beast. As it started to stomp forward toward him, Nikodemus prepared his axe once again.

As the <<Hoya Minotaur>> got close, Nikodemus side stepped and then slashed his axe across the beasts left flank. It roared once more and swung it's sheild to bash Nikodemus in the side of the head. Ducking low, Nikodemus escaped the blow, and then rolled back. His <Bleed> effect kicked in, and the <<Hoya Minotaur>>'s health dropped to 0. With a final shriek, the beast shattered into pixels and then vanished, dropping a large key. Retrieving it, Nikodemus went to the doorway of the tomb and inserted the key into an ornate looking lock.

Turning it, a series of clicks were heard, then the grinding of stone on stone. The door opened slowly, revealing a large spacious room. Within, the main room split off and went into 2 seperate halls that merged together in a central chamber where the Sarcophagus of Minos sat. Surrounding it was the treasure of a king. Just opposite the room, another hall led to branching passages, which in turn led to another door. Heading in, Nikodemus smiled and was glad to have made it here.

Standing within the entrance to the tomb, Nikodemus smiled softly and looked about at the two paths. Selecting one, he began heading down and came into the main room. Sitting amongst the treasure was a large stone sarcophagus. It was as large as two men and just as wide. The stone was carved and engraved in the visage of the man interred within. The large eyes were made of a white crystal, most likely quartz, and inlaid with citrine gemstones for the iris. Along the brows, large finger length pieces of onyx were set in to show either kohl or his eyebrows. Pigment paints had been somehow infused into the stone to give it the color of skin, a bronzed tan color, that looked natural and unfaded. A large ornate hand made of solid gold and laid within the stone in a gilded bronze fitting. With a smile, Nikodemus looked about the room some more. The treasure of a thousand kingdoms sat within. Minted gold pieces, stamped bars, rods and cups, necklaces and rings, gemstones of many variety. All laid strewn about and in small heaps here and there. Any one of the bits and baubles could be the <Hoya of Minos>. With a grumble, Nikodemus leaned down slowly and reaches a hand out to snag a necklace that laid at his feet.

With his fingers nearly one inch from the chain, Nikodemus stopped his hand and then looked about. As a kid he read stories of cursed or trapped treasure, noxious gasses being release, large stones falling from holders and rolling down tracks to crush the looters, iron spears and arrows launching from the the walls, ceiling, or even laying or springing up from a floor trap to skewer anyone in their path. With a grunt, Nikodemus looked over the rooms corners and crevices, searching for any kind of sign. Nothing seemed out of place, and Nikodemus did not like that. With the handle of his axe, Nikodemus smashed a small chunk of the wall, chipping a large enough piece of stone from it. Crouching down into a near seated position and picked the stone up. Still crouched, Nikodemus cocked his arm back slightly and then with a small flick of his wrist sent the stone skipping and clacking across the tiles. With a clinking noise, the stone slammed into the pile of treasure, knocking the necklace free. Waiting for a moment, Nikodemus determined that there was likely no traps on that pile, which mean it most likely did not contain the <Hoya of Minos> in it.

With a sigh, Nikodemus opened the info he had on the <Hoya> and sighed once more. It was rumored to be a special item that changed with each person searching for it. Cursing an oath, Nikodemus kicked a couple of the coins that had scattered from the pile he had disturbed with the chunk of stone he had tossed towards it. Looking at each side of the room, Nikodemus sought something that was unknown to even himself. After a moment, Nikodemus noticed a particular necklace sitting at one end of the room hanging from a small rod with a hook on one end. Peering at the item, he noticed it was made of gold, like much of the rest of the items within, but it had chased silver along the pendants edge, and many small jewels were fitted to it. The pendant was of a decent size, and was engraved in the center with a woman holding a heart, as if offering it to someone. The heart itself was made of a small ruby cut to size and shape. The chain of the necklace was made of medium sized gold loops braided together to make a helix shaped chain. Seeing it for it's beauty, Nikodemus decided that this was what he must have been seeking. Most of the other rings and necklaces in the room were plainer, simple bands and pendants with 1 or 2 stones within it. Others were just metal that was crudely shaped like animals, stars, and so on.

Debating how to get the necklace, Nikodemus looked at his axe and decided the length of the handle and the blade's gentle curve would be best for acquiring the item. Slipping the axe from it's chain, Nikodemus grabbed the very bottom of the handle and then stretched his arm outward with the weapon. Getting to the edge of the rod where the necklace hung, Nikodemus slipped the curve of the axe beneath a loop and lifted it carefully up off the rod and into the air. Careful to not drop the <Hoya>, Nikodemus brought it towards himself, and when it was close, he snagged the necklace in his free hand and let it slide from the axe. Holding it close to his chest, Nikodemus let out a breath and then pocketed the item. Looking around with a smile, Nikodemus took one step towards the pathway he had come down when a loud grinding click was heard from behind him. With a grating noise that Nikodemus recalled, the large stone door behind him opened, and then the one he had entered through closed, forcing him to leave the other way. With a curse, Nikodemus felt the sudden booming thud of large footsteps coming his way. With a roar and the crashing of treasure, Nikodemus turned with a start to see the second <<Hoya Minotaur>> standing with a two handed war axe in it's hands.

With a sigh of disdain, Nikodemus charged his Sword Art <Lightning Axe> and then charge forth. The <Hoya Minotaur> swung it's axe and smashed it down into the ground, shattering tiles and splitting the ground. Leaping out of the way, Nikodemus bounded off a nearby wall and then brought his axe up above him. Swinging it downwards hard, Nikodemus sliced the beast across it's abdomen and left leg. As he came down, the <Hoya Minotaur> kicked it's cloven hoof up and smashed into Nikodemus shield and armor, knocking him backward and into a pile of treasure. With a growl, Nikodemus climbed from the floor and watched as the beast struggled to free it's axe. It took two great yanks on the haft of the weapon before the blade came free from the tile and ground. Chunks of stone and soil fell from the blade and bounced from the ground a couple times. Readying his axe once more, Nikodemus prepared to lunge once more.

As the large axe was raised by the <Hoya Minotaur>, Nikodemus tried to run in and strike it. Misjudging the distance, Nikodemus caught the backhand from the beasts hand. With a grunt, Nikodemus slid a few feet and felt his armor's <Regen> kick in and return all but 1 point of DMG. With a growl, Nikodemus leapt forward and struck with all the force he could. His axe was glowing with a sickly emerald color as his Sword Art <Lightning Axe> activated. The blade sliced through the beast in a zagging pattern and turned the beast to pixels immediately. With a sigh, Nikodemus smiled and then stood up to his full height and then began to walk out of the Tomb. Reaching the door, Nikodemus took a deep breath and inhaled the air. It was quite damp with condensation, and felt like he had just stepped from a bath. Smiling wide, Nikodemus made he was towards the other side of the tomb where the path was, so he could return home.

Making his way through the Forest, Nikodemus hoped that he would make it back without much issue. Grumbling, he once more came to a branch and began to curse loudly. He had no patience for this, but had no choice. With a sigh, he picked a path and began heading down it. Walking down the trail, he felt the sense of eyes on him, but he brushed it off as simple creatures. With a grumble, he kept walking and soon found himself once more at the branch he had just went down. With another string of curses, Nikodemus began to move down the other path with a hateful countenance on his face. With long strides, Nikodemus made his way through the Forest and soon come to another path. Selecting a path, he began down it once more and prayed it would take him back to the main path out of the Forest.

Having walked through the Forest and down the path, Nikodemus found himself back at a branching path and he spit a curse seeing his footprints. He was beginning to grow annoyed with this game, and he wanted nothing more than to take his rage out on something. Sitting down for a moment, Nikodemus tried to relax and clear his mind. It was starting to strain and he was worried he would lose the grip on his sanity. Trying to keep calm and collected, he took deep breaths and worked his mind, trying to grasp at his breaking psyche. After a moment of relaxing and trying to calm himself, a thought struck him. Opening his eyes and gazing down at the pouch he slid the <Hoya> in, Nikodemus sighed and took it out. "You had best be worth this trouble... I have been stuck in this forest for nearly a half day, and I have no intent of sleeping here. So, for you being an ever changing item, that must mean your cursed as I suspected... So, time to break the curse."

With that, Nikodemus stood back up and gazed at the necklace in his hand. With a tight grip, he cocked his arm back and then tossed the necklace high into the air and prepared his axe. As it the necklace fell back down to the earth, Nikodemus swung his axe as hard as he could. The blade connected to the chain and sparks radiated from the contact. After a second, the a health meter showed on the necklace and went to 0, then a purple dome shattered into pixels and fell from around the necklace. With that, the Forest around him wavered slightly and he found himself standing before the Tomb of Minos once more. With a curse, Nikodemus watched the necklace land on the ground before him, now free of any curse it may have had. With a swirl of the wind, the pixels from the shattered curse blew into a small whirlwind and exploded away, leaving behind the shape of a man robed in a tattered amethyst cloak. Atop his head was  crown, and his features were familiar to the stone sarcophagus within the tomb. With a sigh, Nikodemus read the name above the health bar. "<Shade of King Minos> eh? Well, here is hoping that if I slay you, I am free of this verdammt forest..."

With a baleful glare, the <Shade of Minos> came streaking in with a hateful wail. Swinging it's spectral claws at the Nikodemus, it tried to slice him to ribbons. Ducking just under the swiping claws, Nikodemus rolled under the specter and then came up, spinning around and slashing his glowing axe blade into the back of the being. With another wail, the creature faded from sight and flitted about the area, then re-appeared and began to wail louder and louder. It's mouth twisted in a mock grin and it's eyes burned an eerie red. With a gulp, Nikodemus took a step back and prepared himself to strike again.

With a suspicion that the <Shade of King Minos> was preparing something, Nikodemus decided to stop the creature now. Leaping in with his axe glowing an unnatural sickly emerald color, he slashed the specter across it's torso, carving it in two from left shoulder to right hip. Landing behind the shade, Nikodemus turned and watched it's HP tick to 0, then the <Shade of King Minos> let out a blood curdling wail and burst into pixels, then vanished completely. With a sigh, Nikodemus walked to the spot where the <Hoya of Minos> had fallen and gathered it up, pocketing the curse free item once again. Turning towards the forest, Nikodemus began his trek back out of the accursed place.

Heading down the path, the trail no longer split and forked every 5 feet. With a slight smile, Nikodemus was glad to be done with the games. Walking along, he made decent time, slipping past rocks and downed trees, across small pits of water and mud and past large nests for things that dwelled in the forest. After nearly an hour, Nikodemus came to a small clearing with a little pond. It was here he slew a <Dark Elf> and fought his way back to the town. With a smirk, Nikodemus continued onwards and through the forest every wary of anything that might try to sneak up on him. This place was full of beasts of legend, and Nikodemus did not want to play with any of them at the current moment.

After another hour, Nikodemus found himself out of the forest and on the path back to the main settlement. With a sigh of relief, Nikodemus began to walk down the trail and back towards town. His mind was easing with each stop he took away from the forest. Slowly he began to whistle a tune to himself, trying to keep calm and relaxed. After a few moments he felt much better and continued onwards. He felt at the necklace in his pouch and smiled, glad to have the item at hand in case it was needed. With a a bit of a better pace, Nikodemus made his way towards the main settlement and smiled when he saw it come into sight a few hundred feet away. Quickening his pace, he made it to the gates within 10 minutes of seeing them looming up in the horizon. Nodding to the guards, Nikodemus made his way through and was joyous to be there instead of in the wild,

Finally being in town, Nikodemus smiled and began to wander around looking for anything to do. His mind was at peace once again within the safezone and he was feeling much better. After a time, Nikodemus sat down in a small part of town and rested for a time. His body was alittle weary from all the hiking, but he would be fine. Dozing for a time, Nikodemus snored loudly and was ignored by the people moving about him. After an hour, he woke and stood, shaking the sleep from his limbs. Moving off, he made his way to the town's teleportation gate. Clearing his throat, Nikodemus called out "Teleport: Nimbus!" and then was engulfed in light. Within the blink of an eye, Nikodemus found himself in Nimbus.

Strolling leisurely down the streets of Nimbus, Nikodemus basked in the greenish glow from the natural lighting of phosphorescent crystals that were in the walls and ceiling of the large mountain Nimbus inhabited. Smiling softly, he made his way past shops, homes, and the main market place. Stopping for a bit, he chatted casually to some NPC's who had stopped and were talking of recent events. He spoke with them, letting them know of the rumors he heard and the likes. After an hour of chat, Nikodemus was feeling tired and decieded to head home. Walking down the stone streets, Nikodemus whistled to himself and ran his fingers along the stone buildings as he did. Approaching his shop, Nikodemus opened the door and turned the <Closed> sign to <Open> and made his way through the door.
