[SP-F2] Getting Better (Verus) COMPLETE

Recommended Posts

This was the first time Verus had traveled to the second floor, and he wasn't quite sure what to expect. He had decided to take a personal journey and test out how well he could do on his own. He felt that his level was high enough to be able to farm a solid amount of the mobs on this floor, and well the first floor wasn't able to provide much for him. He had far to much health compared to many of the beasts on that floor and didn't want to take any chances with taking on multiple enemies.

The visual aspect straight out of the portal was appealing to say the least. The buildings were all styled to resemble those from the medieval time period. It truly was a refreshing sight from all the plains he had walked on the first floor. However, he had little to no things to do that would require him to be within the city. He slowly wandered through it's streets until he reached one of the gates into the wild. This area was vast and filled with numerous trees scattered about. It was nice not to see as much green, even though it was delightful and all. The change of scenery brought him happiness; maybe he would fit in well on this floor.

His path had remained the same for some time, leading straight out of the city. He had not wanted to travel too far out of the walls of the city in fear of higher level mobs, but wanted to get a feel for the landscape. The mobs on this floor had to be just a bit better than those on the first, or so he assumed. He needed to know what he was up against and before he could do that, he needed to know where to run away to if need be.

The sky slowly began to fill with dark clouds that seemed to come from the mountains for into the distance. Verus felt the temperature around him rise slightly and he could feel the air slightly humidify, leading him to believe that rain was coming. A small grin slid onto his face. He had loved the rain ever since he was a child, and was curios how well he would fare fighting something in it. It gave him a weird surge of confidence and caused him to stop in his place, looking around at the mountainous region he was in. It was if the sky had darkened just enough to set up for a good hour or two of fighting. All Verus had to do now was find something to kill.

With the walls of Urbus just barely visible, Verus assumed he had gone far enough. He could feel the rain starting to trickle down on him as he turned and began to slowly stroll back towards the gates. He would setting for farming just outside of the walls, but needed to find out what he was going to be fighting first. From the looks of the area he was in, he'd guessed there to be an abundance of wolves. There was no real way of him to know this, but he just felt like this was the perfect hunting grounds of them. The ones on the first floor felt oddly placed, almost just to add in another mob to kill for the new players. However this floor felt like their home, their breeding ground.

He had wandered into a heavily forested area just outside of the walls. The stone they were built with was visible just beyond some of the trees, but Verus hadn't worried much about it. What he did worry about though, was the sight of a beast that had seemed to have been following him. He had caught glimpse of it a few seconds earlier; a dark brownish wolf that had been following his trail. It was an interesting feeling to know you were being stalked, but Verus paid no mind to it. He slowly turned and met his newest contender with the draw of his sword, holding it at the ready.

The wolf took the first step and charged at Verus, lunging at his left leg. Verus replied to this with a simple sidestep and set his Sword art into motion during this action. With three quick jabs, he pierced into the beast, watching as he landed each one. He sure did love his skill shots.

The beast let backwards and again repeated the attack it just had, this time changing it up ever so slightly and lunging for Verus' opposite leg. Verus simply sidestepped the opposite way this time, letting the animal stagger past him just enough to set up for an attack. He attempted to plunge his rapier into the body of the beast, hoping to pierce the back end of the ribs. He mistimed his attack however and thrusted just as the beast had gotten out of range.

Verus rolled his neck to the side, attempting to pop out what kinks he could find. It was much easier to have the advantage of numbers, and he missed having his party around him to help belittle the mob. This whole journey he had started was to help his party out thought. He wanted to get stronger for them so they would be able to obliterate every enemy in their wake. He had to get stronger.

Once Verus popped his neck, the animal perked its ears up and snarled. It seemed to have not liked the sound and reared up for another attack. This time it prepared by leaning backwards onto its hind legs, setting off into a sprint shortly after. Verus braced himself, lowering his shoulders and keeping his weapon at bay. The beast pushed off with its back legs and leapt into the air, looking to bite at his face. However, Verus was able to dodge this by rolling underneath the animal, him being possible to by being prepared for the attack. Once behind the beast, he attempted to lunge at its hindquarters, hoping to tear up its back right leg. His attack went wide, and the two of them, Verus and the wolf, reset for their next attack. The two had been lunging at each other back and forth to no avail, having missed several of their last attacks. It would be quite a sight to see if anyone was watching the two, however they were secluded to themselves in the outskirts of the forested area.

Verus panted heavily as he looked at the beast. His heavy breathing caused his body to almost pulsate along with each breathe he took. He was in some sort of zone, and was having a wonderful time. The rain had begun to pour and his hair stuck to his face, giving an even more blurred view of his enemy. However, this did not really bother him. It gave him an even better feeling. His shoulders slowly slunked backwards and he held out his arms wide, taunting the beast. "Is this the best you got?" He spoke with confidence, and knew that he had something inside of him waiting. The simple rapier he was holding had gotten him far and done well for the most part, assisting him on landing blow on blow on the various enemies he had fought. It surged with a dark purple as he spoke, the rain slightly masking this from the beast. The wolf fell for his taunt and let out a loud snarl before running at the boy, attempting to bite at his torso. Verus was ready however, and let his new sword art take over his body. His movements flowed together fluently and his now bright purple sword thrusted into the now mid-air wolf three times, skewering it on the blade on its last hit. The wolf instantly shattered into particles and Verus slowly let down his sword, letting it fall to his side. His first second floor mob was easier than he thought it would be.

With his heavy breathing beginning to calm down, Verus decided to sit where the beast had just died, basking in what he had accomplished. He had fought off a mob by himself, and had taken no damage at. Maybe it was because he was lucky, or maybe he just truly outplayed the beast. Regardless of how it happened, he felt immense happiness. He would bring joy to the others with his damage-dealing potential one way or another, and he would return to them a stronger man. He promised himself to at least level up once or twice on this solo journey of his, and planned on following through with his problem. Verus had the dedication to follow up on his unsaid word, and planned to bring back a good amount of mats and col with him to his party.

The ground had become extremely muddy, but Verus had cared not. He felt at peace in that moment, basking in the downpour on the soaked earth. He was overcome by a strange calmness, partly due to his recent kill and partly from the rain that poured down. There was just something about it's usual warm wetness that brought him joy. The sound also put him to sleep in real life, which he usually enjoyed. In this game though, he had yet to feel tired, which he always thought was strange. There was no true desire to sleep which he thought was utterly amazing. He had tons of more times to do activities and such. Hell he may even start doing water aerobics for an extra skill. Verus smiled in remembrance to the hundreds of movies he's watched, daydreaming about his real world. That all stopped when a large drop of water hit his nose, causing him to snort back into reality. The rain seemed to be coming down harder now with more force; Verus enjoyed it even more. He stood, sheathing his now muddy sword and started to stretch himself out.

Popping his bones of their lactic acid was one of Verus's favorite things to do. The sound they produced was put him at ease, and it always felt fun to do. He always had to be moving his hands or legs a part of his body due to always having to do something. He felt strange when he wasn't moving some part of his body and always found it hard to sit still unless he was dog tired or dead asleep. Trying to pop his fingers and knuckles was his answer to this, but he was also fond of finger tapping and leg jiggling. After getting loose from all his stretches, he parted his hair from his eyes and looked around in the midst of the downpour. He wanted more beasts to fight, and was prepared to search for them through all of the muck he was in. He felt almost fully energized enough to fight again, and figured that after he walked around a little bit he would be ready to fight.

Verus had searched the area for sometime in hopes of finding another wolf, having enjoyed the fight with last one. The fight felt methodical with the beast, and he wanted to experience that again. The sensation of getting a kill had become almost drug like, and he was beginning to become addicted. The downpour however made it somewhat difficult for him to see much in front of him, and he decided that the only way for him to find something would be to attract it to him. Verus used his hands like a funnel and put them around his mouth. "Hey!" He yelled rather loud, hoping to have them come to him instead of the other way around. His strategy worked, but he hadn't known that it did before it bit him. The loudness of the rain masked a wolf's attack on Verus's backside and he felt the beasts teeth plunge into the back of his calf. He managed to pull away from the beast and turn around, eyes wide and ready to fight. "Accel Stub." Verus drove his rapier into the beast, watching as it took each of his three quick blows. The fight started off well.

Verus watched as the beast circled around him, paw prints quickly fading in the soaked ground. He mocked the animals motions, circling opposite of the beast, always making sure to keep his eyes locked on his enemy's. This one seemed to have a little more fight in him than the last one, and Verus was oddly happy about it. He essentially got a free kill before with no struggle, but this one seemed like it would put up more of a battle. Verus was the first one to move on the beast, taking a slight step towards it. The wolf attempted to bite at his leg with no hesitation, just coming short. The sound of the clasping jaws caused Verus's counter attack to fall short, as he genuinely wasn't ready for that loud of a sound. That thing had just bit him, and it would die by him as well.

Verus did something he hadn't done before and took on an aggressive stance, walking towards the animal with his sword extended out at it. The beast responded as he thought it would, and began to backpedal slowly, matching his pace. Verus felt powerful in this stance and used it to his advantage, trying to back the wolf up into a tree he saw through the fog of rain. The wolf must have notice this however because it quickly jumped past the sword's reach towards Verus, trying to bite at him. Verus was out of position but managed to ole the wolf, it's side now available for another strike. "Accel Stub!" He unleashed his sword art on the beast and watched as it whimpered its last call before falling over and fading into the rain. Verus exhaled and let his sword fall to his side before smiling softly. He was doing well.

He was exhausted again. It seemed he was expending a great amount of his energy on these mobs, but he knew that would happen. He had grown used to the comfort of switching in and out with several other fighters, each taking turns at dealing decent blows on mobs. However, he was on his own so he had to land everything he had and at full power. His wound had started to slightly heal up, and he was glad. It hurt like a son of a bitch, but it was for a necessary clause. Verus slumped back down onto the ground, spreading his legs out as he sat. The rain was comforting. The heat it provided filled him with...determination.

The rain had begun to lessen and the thundering stopped, letting off only the sound of the rain hitting the vegetation and the ground around Verus. He leaned backwards and propped himself up on his arms, allowing his weight to settle on them. He was completely soaked from head to toe. His backside and legs  must have been covered in the mud he had been constantly sitting in, but he cared not. This weather put him into a certain mood he couldn't quite put his finger on. It essentially pumped him up to a point where he just felt unstoppable. The bite marks on his leg would say otherwise, but he didn't want to think about that. He wanted to think about what he could do with the skill points he would earn in a little while.

His fingers tried to grasp at the earth, only to squeeze the muddy mud between his fingers. It made a squishing noise as it slimed its way through the force of his fingers, covering the top of his knuckles. The rain had fully subsided, leaving Verus sitting in a watery pull of liquid earth. It was not pleasant anymore. The rain made it pleasant, now that he was just there it felt...wrong. He quickly got up and shook off what mud from his hands he could before wiping the remaining bits on his shirt. Mud hand prints filled his shirt and his hair fell to his shoulders, drooping down and sticking to the sides of his face. He was not in a good mood anymore.

Verus tried to get a sense of where he was, turning around a few times to try and spot where the city wall was. After what felt like two or three turns, he had spotted what seemed to be the dark grey color that was the walls. He pushed himself through some of the tight spaces the trees made and soon came to a clearing just a small ways before the walls. However, he spotted something standing between him and the gates. It straightened out it's back as it saw me and raised up what seemed to be club. "Oh hell yes." The muddy, drenched Verus raised up his sword to the sky, pointing it towards the now visible sun. "My first goblin!" He laughed and took initiative, picking up his pace as he began to run towards the beast. "Accel Stub!" With three quick jabs, he pierced the goblins weapon arm, watching as it stuttered backwards while trying to counter-attack, missing by a large margin. "Oh come on now."

The goblin stumbled around, not ready for Verus's last attack. He took this chance of it's troubled state to try to successfully finish it off. It was a shame, he wanted more of a fight from the beast. "Accel Stub!" With three quick stabs to the mob's abdomen, the creature faded away, having lived a somewhat short and disappointing life. "Mud warrior Verus....no Mud Fighter Verus...no.." He mumbled to himself wacking his sword at the tips of his boots. He desperately needed a bath, but had no way of paying for one. He groaned just enough to where it was audible and picked up his feet, heading for the walls of the city. Maybe the locals knew of a nearby stream or river he could wash off in.

The glares he received once he entered the city had not really phased Verus. He hadn't ever cared much about what others he didn't know thought of him, and doubted he would ever really care. What he did care about though was his mud soaked hair and if his rapier would be okay. Surely a little water and dirt wouldn't scuff up his child, but he didn't want to take any chanced. Every NPC he asked seemed to duck away from him due to his muddy looks, but he persisted on, dragging his muddy ass across the town and back looking for information.

After what seemed to be countless NPC's turning him down, he found an old woman who appeared to be trying to pass out something she was holding. He politely refused and spoke to her softly. "Do you know where a river is? I'm covered in mud. Mud isn't fun." The frail old woman held up her arm and pointed at the gate Verus had just came back from. He paused slightly and nodded to the NPC, grasping his hands together in a gesture of thanks. He must've walked right passed a reserve or pond or something, and it made him slightly upset. He'd enjoyed being all dirty and drenched before, but cleaning up was never as fun. He'd fix that soon, though.

The gates seemingly took forever to get to, and he made it there just in time as the mud on his body began to start drying. It was mildly uncomfortable, but he got over most of the dry, gritty feeling. He tried to break off the protruding pieces of mud hanging off the back of his arms and legs to assist him with walking a bit easier. Mud still filled the insides of his boots, and that had to be the worst feeling of anything he had been feeling. The squishiness between his toes had gotten to him with every step; the sloshing sound slowly driving him mad. After a short conversation with one of the guard NPC's, he was directed to the area he was told about that had a small river. He thanked the computer and began his new journey to get clean; a journey he would be happy to quickly finish.
