[SP-F5] Sand in Uncomfortable Places

Recommended Posts

Scarf wrapped around her face Shirosu swore violently, her words lost in to the wind as it swept by, blowing sand into her eyes. Closing them momentarily She questioned her sanity at coming here in order to mob grind, it was the appropriate floor for her level in terms of mob damage and hp, but the thought only occurred to her now, why hadn't she just hunted out some slightly stronger mobs on the level below her. Still grumbling she stomped over dunes and past long dead trees, all that was left was a white, barkless skeleton, a reminder to how harsh life was in the desert. Spotting something that looked like a mob in the distance steeling herself, she decided to head towards it, she need something to beat up to take her mind off of the stupid sand.

When she got close enough Shirosu saw what the creature was, a large, hooded snake who on her approach lifted its head up and hissed at her. Drawing her dagger She grinned at leap at the beast, activating her sword art, shadow stitch. She was quick with her slash and her kicks smacked the beast twice in the face before it could react. She had been hoping for a one hit kill, but alas, she was just short of it.  In retaliation the angered snake struck faster then she thought snakes could and with a decisive snap of its jaw around her wrist it did her a fair amount of damage, not enough to worry her, but it still wasn't comfortable. "Hah!" she laughed when the snake succumbed to thorn damage and yelled "Boo ya!" that was one dead snake, poor unlucky animal. Looking at what it had dropped she smiled, two mats, this must of been her birthday!

With a sigh, she set back off into the blistering heat, hoping to maybe stumble upon another monster or perhaps some materials. While she walked she thought that maybe she should of brought, Gin along for some company. While she walked she hummed some tunes from what had been current music when the game had snatched her away from the rest of the world, it reminded her of her life back home, something sad but familiar. "Ahhh!" Out of nowhere her there was no ground beneath her feet and she slid down a slope rather unceremoniously.  Spitting sand out of her mouth when she skidded to a stop she spewed hateful words for a few minutes before shaking herself off as best she could and miserably marched back up the hill.

She wasn't really paying attention as she trudged up the hill, still fuming over her incompetence, when the beast leapt, seeming out of nowhere at her face. Instinctively she reacted, along with some help from her evasion and leaned back, the angry animal passing only hair in front of her face. With a short shout she spun around and with five deft flicks of her wrist executed <<Infinite>>  perfectly and landed a huge blow on the furious animal, killing it with a single blow. "Woahhh" she said sitting back on the sand hard, that had been very unexpected, maybe she needed to pay a little more attention when walking now, she shouldn't be so spaced out that she didn't notice thins approaching in a desolate wasteland, yikes. looking infont of her she saw to large pelts and a hand full of col, "well" she muttered, "At least he dropped stuff."

Picking herself up she grumbled, now there was even more sand in her clothing, great, just great. True to her word she kept her mind clear and her eyes peeled so that she wouldn't get jumped again, it had turned out ok that time, but the next? She didn't want to think about that. As she walked, keeping her eyes peeled for foe or hopefully some materials she kicked a pebble across the dunes, sending small sprays of sand with each kick.  With a sigh she tried to find something at least a little fun in the hot hellhole. She spotted a funny looking cactus, which brought a small smile to her face, but for the most part it was desolate.

She picked up the humming again, as it was a distraction from the silence that was the empty desert, she was lonely, but she needed the mats and she needed to level up as quick as she could, she knew the front lines needed help desperately, and wanted to get there to a part of that. With a heavy bang Shirosu kicked her foot into something solid, with a squeak she almost fell o her face, but caught herself this time "What the" she muttered. Crouching down she shifted through the sand and came up with a beautiful, palm sized gem "Oh cool" she said dusting it off,"This would look good imbedded in something. After admiring it for a few more moments she pocketed the gem and turned to see if there where any more, after not finding any she shrugged and continued her walk through this hateful place.

sometimes in the distance she would spot something akin to a monster in shape or size, but when she went to approach it always seemed to dive into the sand and out of her sites. The heat was now blisteringly hot, and ten times worse than before, and she was starting to feel like she was melting, and she didn't like it very much. Unfortunately as boredom took over she payed less and less attention to the rolling dunes and non existent scenery and more to scrolling through her inventory, checking all her gear stats, criticising each one and how she could improve it, but she was beginning to realize she needed the levels to improve her skills, without them she was kinda useless. SHe had hoped to maybe find another material, but alas, no such luck.

Shirosu spotted another one of those creatures that kept diving into the sand, but this one didn't immediately dive into the sands upon her approach. It was a grotesque thing, beady black eyes, nasty serrated mouth, and a worm like body that was longer then she was tall, but that probably wasn't saying much, the worm was not an easy looker. when it finally noticed her it let out a hideous hiss and in the blink of an eyes buried itself in the sands. Panicked Shirosu took a step back, not knowing where the monster had went. Then she looked down and saw a bulge in the sand at her feet. Very quickly she leap back and dodged the maw of the worm as it sugred up from the dunes at her face, spraying sand in every direction. Knowing this was one of her few chances to kill the beast she lunged forward with shadow stitch and quickly completed the move. With a ear piercing squeal it flopped over on its side and squirmed for a few seconds before dieing into a pixelated storm. "Gross" she muttered picking up the mat it left and staring at the spot it had died in with disgust for a brief moment before turning to find something else to kill, she just hoped its scream hadn't called another.

She was just starting to think by the time she turned around and walked back it would be night by the time she got back to town when in a large spray of sand that blocked her vision, something knocked her painfully off her feet and she took a beating to her HP. Skidding a few feet back she leapt to her feet and growled scanning for what had hit her, but all she saw were sand dunes and dead bushes. Wiping her head back and forth she only had a seconds notice when the open jaw of the worm jumped out of the sand, its body aiming at her midriff. Dropping to the ground quickly preformed Infinite on the exposed worm above her. With the same ear piercing squeal as its predecessor it too died a squirming mess. With a grimace she stared at the creature, she knew she had told herself to pay more attention, but these dune swimmers where going to be the death of her if she didn't watch, and they moved so well with the sand that they were hard to spot. She scooped the bag of col it left behind and with a groan turned to go back towards the settlement.

It was slow going, and she was pretty sure she would end up finding more monsters along the way, and growled at the thought, she was tired, hungry, hot, and miserable from today's trip and just wanted to be done with it.  there was sand currently stuck in more places then she cared to think about, her hair had become a disheveled frizzy mess, so even game hair behaved like this, seriously. Her golden eyes were watering from the blazing sun and the scarf around her face didn't offer much protection for them midday heat, "Blazing hell hole" she muttered wearily, and yet, she always seemed to end up back here, she even preferred the freezing fourth floor over this! But she might have been a bit biased on that, she liked snow, and so, she marched on.

At the rate of success she was having at finding absolute diddly squat, she was pretty sure she was just wasting time at this point, he energy had yet to completely recover, so she hoped she wouldn't run into a beast of some sort that wanted to tear her face off, cause that would just be a dodging fest for her. Her eyes scanned tiredly into the mirage that was the sun's heat waves as they shimmered and distorted vision. She wanted to desperately fall into her bed back at her little shop, but doubted that would be happening anytime soon, stupid grinding, stupid Shiro, stupid SAO, every thing was stupid.

Foul, that would probably be the best description of her current mood, she was starting to itch again to fight, at least that way she could blow off some steam, that would be nice, she hated this whole wandering aimlessly through the desert with no real purpose feeling, even though she actually had a pretty good one. She knew she was only about a quarter of the way back to the settlement, if even, so she had to do her best to make the walk interesting. Her only idea was to see how far away she could throw rocks if she smacked them with the flat of her blade far enough.  Turns out, while she didn't have the strength to bat it to far, she did however have decent aim, probably thanks to her ACC. She found that throwing a rock into a cactus with a solid smack was actually quite satisfying, ah, cheap entertainment..

She spotted something furry and it peaked her interest, it almost looked like a fox, and Shirosu was very fond of foxes. As she approached she saw the hip height creature shivering, even in this midday sun, it was hunched over and didn't look all the good. "Hey there....." She said, hoping to not scare the animal. In a Flash the fox spun around and Shirosu flinched back in surprise, It was foaming heavily from the mouth, its eyes were wild and haunting, and before Shirosu could think to much about it, the Fox lunged at her throat.  She was too shocked to react when it wrapped its jaws around her neck, but quickly got to herself and wasted no time killing the creature with a quick sword art. She stared at the poor thing mournfully, what a sad way to go, deranged and afraid, at least she was pretty sure if she ever ended up making one too many mistakes, she would be going down fighting with all of her mind there. She scooped up the material resulting from the death of the fox and continued on her way, glancing over her shoulder at the last few pixels as they twinkled out of existence.

She figured she was about half of the way back to the settlement at this point, so she still had a far walk to go. Shirosu's mind drifted to her real life home, where she was known as Lucy, not Shirosu. She missed her sister dearly, the girl had always known how to bring a smile to her face with her witty comments and bubbly attitude, which as Shirosu was finding herself developing more and more herself. Her sister was more of an opposite build from her, more of a stockier build, though not overweight as opposed to her slender agile frame, with Dirty blonde hair that was always in a beautiful, natural, windswept fashion, like she had just finished a walk on the beach. The only thing they truly had in common was their eyes, both the same pericing golden eyes, with resemblance to that of a wolves. Looking down something shiny caught her eye, leaning down she picked up a beautiful yellow amber stone, and held it up to the light with a sad grin, her sister would have loved it, her sister loved gems. Pocketing it she carried on her way.

Shirosu felt something bump her leg, with a startled shout she leapt high in the air and landed a few feet away from where she had been standing. looking to where she had been previously she saw a knee high, blob like....thing? that was the best way to describe it, it was roundish with a dark red hue and it smelt foul. "Eww" she said and approached the harmless looking think hesitantly and poked it lightly with her shoe. The slime the made the oddest slurping sound and leap higher than she thought slim could, almost landing on her face, she took a step back and deciding she didn't want to deal with the gross thing any longer she activated a her sword art shadow stitch and attacked the blob. When it didn't die she was shocked, that was weird. all it did was continue to ooze towards her, "Yikes" she muttered.

When the Slim lunged in its slippery, pathetic way for her face again she silently stepped to the side to watch it blob to the ground, splat, then come back into on gelatinous mass. In a way, It was adorably pathetic. Crouching down, she activated one of her smallest sword art and sliced the little blob into quarters, finally, its melted and dissipated into pixels, that had been somewhat amusing. Scooping up the mat and col that came along with the destruction on this horrible beast Shirosu stood up and only thought about getting home to her warm and fuzzy bed.

It was taking all of Shirosu's self control not to just flop down in the sand and sleep right there and then. The slime thankfully hadn't added to the mess, she shuttered, slime and sand smeared all over her? Nope, no thanks, not, today. Her golden eyes were starting to look really weary, losing their normal mischievous sheen. She shook herself and forced herself to continue plodding along, never again would she do this by herself, to do so would mean she had lost her brains. She wanted to go back home, she wanted to cuddle up with Gin and forget all of her worries, at least for a short period of time. with a new happy thought, she picked up the pace, determined to get home.

Now with her new mission, cozy clothing, food, and Gin on her mind Shirosu walked through the desert with purpose, getting way more excited then she probably should over this, but anything was better than the endless sand. One thing that was in the corner of her mind was that maybe she would find a dungeon on her trek, though the chance was slim, she sure hopped she would, that would be nice, maybe she'd even invite some of her guild mates to come if she did discover one. That would be a nice surprise and pretty interesting too, even more so than her current plans for the rest of the day. But, food was pretty high up on her list as well, she liked food too much, it was probably good this was virtual, no getting fat, but she hated thinking about what was happening to her real world body, she usually avoided thinking about that.

Shirosu was beginning to think she would see the town soon, and that specific thought made her quicken her pace, she really, really wanted to get home, like, with a passion. Her fuzzy White hair blowing out behind her, along with her cloak, scarf, and anything lose she had. The sand was blowing in her face, but she didn't care, she was almost, ALMOST, home. When the town came into view she let out the longest sigh, her stupid adventure was just about done and she couldn't be happier, if she didn't have to ever come here again she would be ecstatic, but she was pretty sure she would end up doing so, whether she liked it not.

With her fist in the town she smiled, just about bolting to the towns teleporter. Once she was there she said the words that took her back to the first floor and she all but ran to her little hole in the wall shop, the large storefront windows sending out a warm light in the waning day. She grinned from ear to ear when she saw all the little nose prints over the window, with one still attached to the nose of the animal that had left them. that made her happy, knowing someone was always waiting for her here.
