[SP-F2] Breaking the Unbreakable [Complete]

Recommended Posts

"Another day, another chance to finally train huh?" Able had been telling himself for weeks now that he needed to go out there and get to doing a quest in order to pursue his build that he desires. He had taken hours to look at what kind of weapon he had wanted to use, only to realize that fighting without a weapon sounded even better. Since then, he had taken the time to accept the quest, Breaking the Unbreakable, but had never actually had the motivation to go and begin the quest. Today was the day where he made his mind up and finally left, otherwise he'd be a pacifist for the remainder of the game, and last he checked pacifists don't do too well on the front lines.

Letting out a tired yawn, he rose from the bench by the teleporter on the first floor and stepped through it. He made his way up to the second floor and left the town immediately. He knew where he had to go. It was a mountain, the summit of it to be exact, a relative distance out as it was near the edge of the floor. It's only a few hours worth of travel, but it would be worth it once he got there as he could rest then. Luckily for Able, he loved to walk around through nature and he did this on a regular basis, so trekking this distance would be a breeze to him. Setting on his way, he let the wind kiss his skin, and his hair waved back and forth with the grass and the leaves of the trees. The sky was blue, and the sun was shining, with clouds randomly coming about to cover the sun only for a moment, which provided a nice set of shade to cool off in just for a moment or so.

As time passed, he spent probably four or five hours walking because when he got back, the sun was at it's peak for the day, which meant that it's probably best that he didn't walk back after he finished the quest and just stayed out for the night near the mountain by the NPC. "Where the hell is this guy?" he asked as he scratched the back of his head. Turning around, he began to look around himself to try and figure out where this NPC stood. However, while being turned around, he was walking in reverse, and before he knew it there was a wall he connected his shoulder blades with.

Leaning against the wall, which he had found without even paying attention, he slid his back down until he was sitting down. Wiping a sweat pearl from his forehead, he realized the heat of the weather. Of course it didn't exactly help that he was wearing nice dress clothes as his casual get up, but still, the weather would definitely be a punishing factor during this quest. He heard a cough from only feet from him, when he looked over his right shoulder, he saw a man standing there. He was outside of a hut, and how Able didn't notice this building there amazed him. Able stood up immediately, filled with relief that he was actually at the right part of the map, and that he didn't have to go much further.

He approached the man with a smile and he took a look around before he spoke. "I'm here to accept a quest that I've been hearing about?" Able asked the man, and that's when it happened. The menu had opened up in front of him requesting if he would like to officially accept the quest <<Breaking the Unbreakable>>, and without even the slightest hesitation, he pressed the blue circle to accept. That's when the man in front of him looked at him from top to bottom. "I suppose you will do", he said almost disappointed for some strange reason. The NPC then took out something, which must have been paint, because he smeared whiskers onto Able's face. "These whiskers, you see? They may not be removed until you, and you alone, shatter this rock in two with nothing more than your hands and feet."

Able turned to where he was pointing, and there he saw a massive rock. Taking a gulp, he knew that this was no easy task. He nodded his head, as he wasn't afraid that he couldn't do it, he was just afraid of how long this would take. To break a rock of this size wasn't exactly a daily task he had been asked to do. He shrugged his shoulder and rolled up his sleeves up to his elbows, and he was ready to begin the quest.

Able rolled his head in a circular motion in order to crack his neck, and he drew his arm back ready to begin the task he is trying so hard to procrastinate. The boulder was a non fighting foe, but yet here he was intimidated by it's massive size. Able went through with the motion finally and his arm began to go forth at the boulder until his fist met with the boulder. The sting of the hard surface definitely made its mark as it turned his knuckles red in an instant. This was going to be a long process, he could simply tell. The boulder didn't budge. The boulder didn't retaliate, nor did it even show that it took damage. It looked... untouched, and that set a fire in Able's eyes. He didn't like it when things don't turn out the way he expected them to.

This was something he had to do, and whether he wanted to do it or not, he needed that skill to go anywhere in this game. That's when he looked up. There was something that gave him hope that he was making progress after all. It was a health bar right above the rock. Although there wasn't much difference, he could tell it dropped just the slightest amount, and that was all Able needed to keep him motivated and driven to continue going.

Able took a deep breath and he drew his arm back once again. Swinging forth and connecting with the boulder was a painful process because he could feel the wear and tear that would be imminent in the near future. Nothing was going to feel pleasant after he completed this quest. Not only was he going to feel physically exhausted, but mentally, he will be so tired that he won't have the motif or energy to walk back to the town. Taking a look at his right hand, he could see the redness of the his knuckles getting worse. Grunting and wincing when he opened his fist into an open hand, he then took his left hand and did the same thing.

With the next swing, Able exhaled more as he released his punch at the rock, thus adding more power, but also making his hand sting slightly worse. The fact that he was feeling the pain worse than the rock was upsetting, but not enough that it discouraged him. He could tell he was making progress and that at this rate, the rock would be in shambles in no time. "I hope my hand goes numb here pretty soon, so I can continue punching this damn rock without feeling a thing. If that happens, I'll swing at it until I drop or until it breaks", he says to himself as he rolls his shoulders to relax a bit more, as he could tell he was tensing up relatively quickly due to stress coming in the form of pain in his hands.

Able continued the motion of swinging over and over again. The rock was feeling less and less painful every time he punched it, but that didn't exactly mean it was a good thing either. The pain in his hands become less, but he knew that there was going to be swelling and bruising later on. With one of his more recent punches however, he could feel the pain jolt through his arm, which put a tear on his body. The shock from the poor swinging motion, kept him locked up for a moment, and he took a moment to recollect himself. The pain jolted up all the way through his arm, up his shoulder, and along his neck right to his jaw line almost.

Perhaps, Able needed to relax and take things easier, but he already knew, the more breaks he took that the longer this would take him to complete. He may have nothing but time on his hands, but he also wants to go out there and invest himself further so that he can actually start to make a name for himself in the world of Aincrad and Sword Art Online. This was his life he was training for anyways, so why wait?

The whisker markings on his face felt strange once they dried, they felt as if his skin was being stretched, but he was told that they can't be removed until he breaks this rock in two, which was another reason why he was in such a haste to complete this quest. He didn't like it when things got on his face and can't come off for a while, it made him feel uncomfortable that he didn't have full control over his body. The sweat pearls began to run down his face, and hung off from the tips of his hair, now being more wet as the heat was definitely terrorizing him. Able then knew he had to do it. He took off his dress shirt and was now standing there shirtless punching the rock.

With the clothes allowing him to move with less restriction, he drew back his arm further this time and went in to punch the rock with as much force as he had in him so that he can get a big hit in. He was noticing finally that the health had to have been about 20 percent lower already and that the rock itself was starting to earn a few cracks in it, but nothing significant enough that could expose it entirely.

After such a big hit, Able had definitely noticed fatigue kicking in for a quick second, because when he went in for another swing at it, he knew he wasn't doing anything. Taking a step back for a moment, he had to re-evaluate the situation. Was he hitting it right? What were some weak spots for it? Was there any way that he could expedite this process? He felt so dumb for trying to figure out where exactly he should punch a rock, but he knew it was a necessary step at this point. Any help is good help, unless it's healing for the rock... then that'd be bad, but luckily rocks weren't healers... right?

Of all the skills, why did he choose one that required such a tedious task for their quest? Why couldn't he be normal like all of the other people and just go with swords? No, instead he had to be different because he didn't see himself as much of a weapon wielder. The thought crossed his times few, but the times he did think of it, he honestly questioned why he made this choice. He threw another fist at the rock, to see its health drop slightly more. He was making progress, slowly but surely. Able didn't exactly have the intentions to be punching a rock all day, he also didn't know what he was getting himself into and how much time he would be needing to dedicate in order for him to get the skill that he wanted. Growing tired, he was almost tempted to take a break for a while, almost forgetting that if he took a break now, it would only prolong the entire process and make the end further away.

Able took a deep breath and put another full power hit at the boulder, this time, he could tell he did a number on it, and slowly but surely, he was noticing chunks of rocks breaking off. His fist was torn apart at this point, and he had actually taken some cloth and wrapped them to protect them from further damage. The rock had imprints of his fists now in it, and the pain had gone away. He was grunting between every punch and jab as he was growing tired. Continuous motions without much rest put a number on a person's body, and that was no exception in SAO.

In fact, with the energy system of the game, he had to watch his actions more frequently than he would in real life, because if he ran out of that mid fight, that could be the difference between life and death.

The way the sun touched his skin, it burned him more and more the longer he stood there. Although there was a breeze which felt absolutely amazing, he couldn't enjoy the complete potential of it simply because he had a task at hand before him... literally. Able took another swing at the boulder, but didn't exactly do any damage. Of course this is slightly discouraging to him, it wasn't going to stop him altogether. The old man watched him, he didn't speak, he didn't really move either. In all honesty, Able thought the fact he was just standing there watching him break the rock was sort of... strange.

Taking another swing and not doing anything to it was also another way for him to keep his momentum going. He noticed that this is the best way to achieve maximum damage output on the rock. Perhaps he should have waited to do this skill until he got some other stats up first, but again, that would take time and he wouldn't have any way of fighting mobs in the wilderness without this skill.

Able threw his fist at the boulder once again, only to chunk the health bar by a slight amount. Able, thought about what Domarus said when he called him a level one, when he said that he had potential. He scoffed, "I don't need someone to tell me that I have potential. He better watch out, I'll end him sooner or later and I'll claim his head soon, but for now I have to train. I have to get stronger. Once I can make my way to the front lines, I want to help expedite the process of clearing this game and then get the hell out of here." Throwing another fist with his opposite hand he connected, grunted, and went on with the next fist.

The rock was nearing less and less health slowly but surely. That's when it hit him. This isnt to train his physical strength, it's meant to train him as a mental warrior. The capability to endure pain that you are literally inflicting upon yourself will only strengthen you mentally and allow you to handle any pain from another player. This builds a fighter's spirit inside of a player, or it will completely break someone, but one thing was set in stone and that was he wasn't going to lose this battle versus a rock.

A swing, and a hit, a swing, and a hit. This was the process that he had learned by now. Able stepped back for a moment, with his hands on his hips and he took a deep breath. His body had grown tired for sure, yet here he was still standing stronger than he was only hours ago. His hands had been wrapped with a gauze, but even that had been torn apart, the knuckles were red and his hands were torn apart by the rough surface of this rock. With edges forming from every chip and every break on the boulder, it created a cutting edge that would slice him with every punch. Points in the rock that would jab into his skin slightly only to be withdrawn immediately when he retracts his hand for another punch to take the hand's position.

He turned his body in a sideways formation and figured it was time to use more than just his hands, it was time to get creative. Lifting a leg and kicking it with his shin had chunked another part of the rock, but it also put a new sensation on his body, not a pleasant one either. Because his legs hadn't even been touched by the rock yet, they would feel excruciating soon enough, but for now it was just a slight sting. He needed to train not just his hands, not just his mind, but everything. He was building himself a core, one that would make him a true fighter.

The first few kicks were difficult, because after making contact, he would lose his balance and be forced to stand up straight again. By the time this next kick came around, he was ready to stand on one leg for a longer duration, he released the kick into the rock and he didn't budge, nor did the rock. Both were solidly standing still and he was making repetitive connections now with his leg against the surface of the rock. The health bar of the boulder was beginning to transition from a green to a yellow, but wasn't exactly at that point just yet.

Exerting his energy with every kick, he knew that he couldn't focus on his balance too much longer without collapsing, he'd need to switch legs, but he was afraid of falling by putting pressure on the leg he had been putting through intense training.

Standing up on his leg, he dropped a second. The transition of pressure from his good leg to his 'bad' one right now was a painful step to go through, but once he went up on his leg and sent the first flying kick at the rock, he lost his balance already. He got back up and wiped the sweat off his face. His chest was throbbing from the deep breaths and his legs and hands were throbbing from the pain itself. "Perhaps I should rest..." he though to himself. Training was going to help him make it somewhere, but it didn't mean anything if he overworked himself and the training didn't do anything past a certain point. He shook his head. Breaks are for the weak. If he took a break now, all that showed to the NPC was that he didn't have the strength to keep going.

While he was trying to get back into position, he couldn't keep his balance. With the pain his leg was enduring, he collapsed. He fell to the ground, landing on his shoulders, he had to breathe, he had to rest. His mind was saying to continue, but his body was saying the opposite. His arms and legs were begging him to stop, they couldn't endure more pain and he knew that, but this rock was not going to break itself on its own. Perhaps he should have invited someone to come along with him to break the rock, but what would that have done? The only thing this would have done him would be that he got less training and conditioning out of it.

Able, sat there, resting, drinking some of the water he was given when he started the game. He had made this water last long enough to a point that he only used it when it was really necessary. He ate some of the bread he had too, but it tasted bland, there was no quality behind a dry meal, but the water felt amazing running down his throat. With every gulp he took, he saw the bottle get more and more empty. Taking some of the water from the bottle and pouring it on his body and his hair to cool him. He laid back and saw the sun was finally getting past it's peak. It was going to slowly get darker the longer he spent here. He couldn't leave until this quest was done, so if he had to work through the night then so be it. He hadn't realized it, but the fatigue from working out, and the relaxing comfort of finally getting to lay back was slowly making his eyes drift off. He fought the urge to fall asleep, but eventually he gave and he had fallen into a sleep.

He heard a scream in the distance, thus jolting him from his sleep. He didn't know where it was coming from, but he was panicked at this point. He stood up, with difficulty, because of the rest he had gotten he could feel the soreness in his body finally. Even though he was sore though, it still felt better than earlier. He used the wall next to him to place his hand there for extra stability, and another hand was holding his shoulder so that it didn't give out from holding him up. His legs weren't exactly in perfect condition either, as they could barely hold him up, and he knew they were shaking below him. His bare skinned chest felt the night time air, thus putting a chill on him, but he didn't stop to look where the scream came from.

Sliding his hand along the wall, he looked everywhere, but he couldn't find anything, not even a monster in relative distance. Perhaps he was hearing things, he wasn't sure, but it wasn't a sound he wanted to hear again.

He slid back down to sit, only for a few more moments was his logic. If he sat around too much longer, he was wasting time. Although he was procrastinating the job at hand, he didn't want to do anything stupid. He figured a few more moments to just sit would suit him well. Taking another drink of the water, he stretched, but even that made his arms weak as the soreness had officially set its place in his body. "Let's get this thing broken down tonight", he said out loud looking over at the NPC that wasn't actually there anymore, he could tell he was in the hut, which only meant that he had less to look at, therefore bringing his attention to the rock once more. He used his strengthen to raise himself up and to stand back up. Rolling his shoulders, and cracking his knuckles, he wrapped up his hands again and went right back at the process of breaking the rock.

Sending through one of the first punches since his rest, he could tell he had more energy than he had only hours ago. The moon was up, but it wasn't even at it's peak yet, meaning it's still young in the night. Able exhaled as he sent through every fist at the rock, and with one of his first punches, he felt the power in the hit. The rock broke up some more, and the health dropped more than it usually did. He had a grin on his face, he felt more confident than he did earlier now that he was well rested and not as exhausted. Although his arms and legs still burned from the soreness, it was more manageable than the actual pain he was feeling earlier.
