[OP-F5] Blacksmith's Favors-Dragons Quest

Recommended Posts

~Dragons... - Whoever decides to take upon this quest, must go onto the 2nd Floor and slay 10 Dragons. They drop 1 Dragon Heart Stones each, and they are easy kills, however they won't drop any Col reward if you are too high a level. If you go onto Floor 5, in the desert you can find Drakes, wingless dragons, and they can potentially drop more than one stone each, they are level 5, meaning a single drake has 13 HP, making them a slightly more of a challenge. Again, you may ask Daeron, the blacksmith himself to accompany you on your quest in case you struggle with such beasts.~

After accepting the quest from the blacksmith Daeron, Edwyn set out immediately for Floor 2. He had decided that he should probably start the quest on the second floor and see how he handles the dragons there, before heading to the fifth floor to battle the drakes there. He knew that he needed as many Dragon Heart Stones as possible, so that Daeron could make him the best sword possible. As soon as he reached Floor 2 he charged into the wilderness towards the portion of the forest where the small dragons resided.

It didn't take long for Edwyn to reach the small stand of petrified trees where the dragons were said to live. Some of the trees had fallen down over the years, but the ones that still stood were massive. Before being turned to stone the trees must have been sycamores to have been so big. Edwyn raced through the grove, making as much noise as possible, he assumed that the dragons would be attracted to noise, and he was right. It did not take long at all before there was a flock of them following him. Just before they were about to catch up to them, he spun around swiftly and leaped into their midst, slashing and stabbing in all directions. He burst out the back of the flock and spun around again to watch as more than half of the dragons, about 8 in total, burst into pieces. He watched as 8 items fell to the ground, those have got to be the Dragon Heart Stones that I came for Edwyn realized. He dashed forward quickly and picked them all up before turning to face the remaining dragons.

This is gonna be too easy Edwyn thought. Maybe it's time that I head to the higher floor and hunt the drakes there, maybe they'll provide me with more of a challenge. He quickly made one more pass through what was left of the flock of small dragons, but only managed to get a couple this time, he now had a total of 12 Dragon Heart Stones. Then he headed back toward the town, to take the teleport gate to the fifth floor.

Before long Edwyn was standing at the teleport gate in Armadillo on Floor 5. This was the first time that Edwyn had gone as high as Floor 5, but he had to say, he liked it, a lot. The buildings here were made of hard packed earth, most were dome-shaped, and they were all reminiscent of the villages of Tatoine from Star Wars, or of the Village Hidden in the Sand from Naruto. You know he thought I might have to rent a permanent room at an inn here, at least until I can purchase my own house. Now, to find those drakes. It took some time, but after inquiring at a few places, Edwyn finally figured out where he needed to go to find the drakes that he was looking for. He headed out of town immediately took El Paso del Diablo, until he came to a fork in the pass, he took the right one, heading away from the next town, and into the wilds of Floor 5. This was where it would get tricky, he knew, because this was his first time on Floor 5, he didn't know what kind of monsters he could expect to meet, but he was sure that they weren't going to be easy to beat. But, of course, that was why he was here, he wanted a challenge, he never was one to play it safe.

Edwyn didn't have much warning before the snake attacked. One minute he was walking along the trail at the bottom of a canyon, the next he was diving to the side to avoid an enormous snake that had struck out at him from a hole in the side of the canyon. Edwyn had barely dodged in time, and now he quickly sprang backwards to get a better view of the snake that was attacking him. It was huge, with strange markings on its body and teeth the size of scimitars. It hadn't even left the hole yet, it was merely sending part of its body out of the hole to attack him. This could get interesting Edwyn sighed finding those drakes might have to wait...

Edwyn struck at the snake quickly before it could coil up for another go at him. He slashed at its head putting all his strength behind the blow, he wanted to try to finish this quickly. He managed to score a deep, biting blow, but althougth it did damage, it seemed to only enrage the snake.

Edwyn took his time, circling around the snake, looking for an opening. It wasn't long before the snake was following his movements completely, its head following him, its eyes locked on to his. It took a little while, but finally, he thought he saw an opening and he went for it. He struck at the snake quickly, aiming for a spot just behind the head. His source pierced the snake's body and did damage, but then the snake whipped around and hit Ed, sending his body flying into the rock wall of the canyon. Damn damn damn, that one hurt a little Edwyn thought, wincing.

Edwyn picked himself out of the rocks and watched as the snake coiled for another strike, he brushed himself off and watched it for a little longer, but it just sat there staring back at him. He could go back the way he had come and find a different route, but that would take too long, and Edwyn was never one to give up easily. "Kiiiyaaaa!" he yelled and sprang at the snake, swinging his sword at its nose. But the snake reared back at the last second and Edwyn barely had time to land and roll before it struck back at him. He was almost hit, but managed to dodge in time.

Edwyn charged the snake again, immediately after it had struck at him, so that it wouldn't have any time to recover. It had exposed itself in its strike so he aimed a stab at a point along its body, just behind its head. He managed to score a good hit on the snake, but it whipped its body around and flung him into the wall of the canyon again. Ouch he thought this is really getting old.

As he brushed himself off again, he tried thinking of a new plan, one that wouldn't involve him getting the snot kicked out of him. Hmmmmmm, he went over multiple different scenarios in his mind at once, trying to figure out something that would work, or at least had a probable chance of working. It didn't take long before he came up with something that he thought would work. He picked up a large rock and threw it at the snake's head then dodge the opposite way in an attempt to get around it. He managed to dodge around the right side of the snake and ran for a distance down the canyon until he couldn't hear the snake anymore. At that point he turned around and checked to make sure he had made it. Sure enough, there was nothing in sight, he was in the clear. Now, on to the drakes.

Edwyn kept moving onward until he came to a blasted, wind-swept rocky area. The rocks were a dull red color and went as fa into the distance as the eye could see. It was relatively flat, with small rock formations jutting out of the ground every once in a while. The drakes, wingless dragons, were running around throughout the whole area. Standing about 8 feet tall they were magnificent creatures. There were drakes of every color, different shades of red, blue, green, yellow and more, with claws like scythes. The drakes ran about on two legs, some chasing each other, others chasing the lizards and snakes that inhabited this rocky space and snapping them up in their jaws for a snack.

Edwyn looked around for a likely target to start his attack and begin collecting more Dragon Heart Stones. His eyes finally settled on one drake. It was a fine specimen with midnight blue scales and long, curving claws. It was no taller than the rest and was just laying down in the sun, basking. He approached cautiously, not quite knowing what to expect, and as he approached, it opened its eyes and gazed at him passively. It wasn't until he got pretty close to it that it rose to its feet and hissed at him. "And here we go," he said quietly.

The drake glared at him savagely, its beautiful scales shimmering in the sunlight as it swept its tail back and forth. He stared back with the same intensity, until he finally broke the contact by charging the drake. He swept his sword at its neck, hoping to do some damage and get this fight started the right way. Edwyn's sword bit deeply, doing critical damage to the darke. Yes! Now that was the way he wanted to start all of his battles!

The drake reared back and retreated a little ways, hissing and spitting in anger, but Edwyn knew he couldn't give it the chance to recover and mount an attack of its own, so he charged again, quick as he could. He brought his sword around in a vicious stroke, slicing from right to left across the drake's chest. He managed to score a hit, but it wasn't as deep as the last one had been, oh well, it was something. Unfortunately, his strike had left him open to the drake's counter, and it was able to bite his arm before he could back off.

Edwyn backed off a little and so did the drake, licking at its wounds. He ginergly tested the strength in his arm to make sure that he could still hold his sword, and it was fine. He swung it experimentaly a few times before charging at the drake once again, it hissed at him then snapped at his face, he couldn't dodge it, so he accepted the blow and used the cover to strike back at it with his sword, dealing a little damage.
